Hi guys, so I was trying to use "DROID_RAZR_Utility_Jellybean_XT912_WinMacLin" to upgrade my droid 4 from ICS to JB. I have a 100% charge at this point. Put my phone in AP fastboot and chose option '1' which is install JB and wipe data. Then I got the message attached. while that happened, what my phone was doing was turned off, turned on, and turned back off. After the last "waiting for device" message, it never came back on ....I tried holding volume up + down + power, hoping to get it back to the fastboot option but no success (as in phone does not turn back on, not even fastboot page). If anyone have any advise to share I'd really appreciate this, thanks!

let it drain to 0 (should take 4 days on 100) and recharge with a factory cable... this will simulate a battery pull... then you should be able to get into fastboot. next time flash jb from here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/cdma_maserati/list.php
and use rsd to flash it

Bummer, there's no way to just pull the battery huh? really glad this isn't my main phone. Do you by any chance know what went wrong during the process? I'll let it drain and hope for the best then. Thanks!
I did the same thing the other day, phone is totally unresponsive to charging or usb. I do manage to get a green led for a bit though but not for long. I would like to know more about this factory data cable
I used the Droid 4 Script/Tool in the Dev section on my brothers Droid 4 and it worked just fine.
I personally wouldn't drain your battery to zero, I would just plug it on charge for a full hours, then hold "up+down+power" and if it should boot into an options menu, reboot system .
If you use the RSD lite method, make sure to boot into motorola recovery and perform a factory data reset after flashing the sbf file.
I just went through all of this to fix my brothers D4 after he updated via OTA.

I did plug it on charge overnight, tried hold up down power just like you said this morning, and the screen does not turn on at all, not even recovery... so I don't think I can do the RSD lite method right now.... the draining battery method seems to be the best method to try now.

OMG what have I done .... I am finally at ease that I figured out my problem. instead of using droid 4 utility, I got it mixed up with razr utility (I have both devices). No wonder my droid 4 crapped out lol. I'll wait for the battery drain and hope for the best
i just received the team black hat adapter for my droid 4 today, but when i plug it into the computer i still get nothing, has anyone else had success with this on theyre droid 4?

i do have the latest drivers installed, i made sure of that when i was using the RAZR utility last week to re flash it. the problem is the phone died on me in the process of that. it is unresponsive to factory resets and wall charging. total black screen, the only thing i notice is plugging it in through usb i get the green led light, doesnt last all day though...i know the adapter works cuz i tested it on my droid 2 without the battery in....do i need to somehow remove the battery out of my droid 4 for this to work and if so is it not overly complicated to do so?

Hi,
My best guess is that the battery died while you tried to do an FXZ recovery. If that was the case, I think I found a possible fix. Still there are a few other things to be weary of:
Did you:
Try to FXZ to anything other than 246 coming from 246?
Try to upgrade the stock ROM from 905 (GB) to 246 (ICS) without first FXZing to 905?
Try to upgrade to 246 from 905 or anything before 235 by using the 246 FXZ?
Any of those could have bricked your device. Keep in mind not to do those things as you read through this possible fix.
A little disclaimer: This idea is my best guess for how to fix your problem, but I take no responsibility if it breaks something or causes a problem. Please only proceed if you've FXZed your phone before and understand what I'm talking about... If you've been on an ICS Leak after 232 or on the ICS OTA, NEVER flash the 905 FXZ! If you haven't been on the ICS OTA or a Leak after 232 DO NOT flash the 246 FXZ! These instructions will most likely wipe your phone's internal storage/"SD card".
I suggest following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549625 ( It's for the Droid RAZR so I'm not sure it will work, but the phones are very similar, so I'd try it. ) Stop at this point:
After a good charge up to 50% or so download the program called
Click to collapse
I strongly suggest that you let it charge to 100% first. Then, if you were at one point successfully on 235-246, flash the 246 FXZ ( Found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1952040 ), if you never flashed anything post-232 flash the 905 FXZ ( Found here: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B26Hj6_2TMNTZ256eV9QbWpBSTQ from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771993 ). BE CAREFUL HERE! Let it finish completely.
This should return your phone to stock. Upgrade to 246 if you used the 905 FXZ and you should be all set. I'll leave rooting to you. Also make sure that if you try to flash Hashcode's 4.2.1 JB you do so in Safestrap 3.05 or higher ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391875 ) and do so in ROM-Slot 1 or you'll have issues ( Looks like he had to make a work-around to get it to boot that requires it to be in ROM-Slot 1 ). Do not flash his 4.2.1 ROM without Safestrap.
Let us know how it goes, and remember to thank vel0city for that post if it works ( I'd appreciate a thanks too though, ).
Good luck, I hope this fixes it,
jedi453
I'm not sure the battery will charge while bricked (could be wrong) . When that happens you need one of the factory cables that will power the phone regardless.
Can also get a charge from somebody else with a bionic.

As far as I can tell you're right Drunkula, normally a special cable would be required to charge the phone, or as you suggest charging the battery separately of the broken phone. The thread I linked to however ( by vel0city, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1549625 ) is a manual work-around to bypass the requirement for a special cable. Although that thread refers to the RAZR, I would imagine the same could be true of the Bionic.
I had the same problem i went to a battery store and bought an external batter charger (a little clip) and everything was great

heres what you do OP.
find an old USB charging cable. splice it open until you see two wires. spice those wires (red and black i believe)
open your case and put the leads of each wire against the terminals where the battery goes
match RED with the + icon on the battery and the BLACK with the - icon
you need to be patient it takes a few times before you get the leads touching correctly while inserting the battery.
then simply plug it into USB and boot into fastboot. you will see BATTERY OK.
from there you must flash whatever firmware to get the phone back to stock.
i've done what you've done before, trying to flash flash flash and then the battery dies and u cant even boot past moto logo.
seems as though the black fastbook/flash screen eats battery life
this works and its very simple!!! good luck!

I would not recommend this option. While it may work, it's very possible that it may damage your phone. For those that disagree or don't understand why I would say this, my reasoning is that USB provides 5 Volts at usually up to 500 mA standard, while a battery would provide at max 3.7 Volts at a higher current. This is simultaneously giving the phone too high a voltage ( BAD, can cause permanent hardware damage! ) and possibly not providing enough current ( The flash could fail, and you'll be stuck again ). There is also the possibility of shorting ( inadvertently connecting ) two pins/terminals/connections in the phone with the wire from the USB cable.
In short: I strongly suggest not directly connection a USB cable to the phones battery terminals.
I apologize to paradoxed for the blunt response, but the inherent risks outweigh the possible benefits. ( Note to shubhkirti1997: it sounds like your phone is "soft-bricked" which in my understanding means the software is not working correctly ( So it may be possible to fix it without gutting it ), attempting to interface a USB cable with the battery connectors may make it "hard-bricked", as in the Hardware is broken, and no amount of flashing or software modding/fixing will fix a hard-bricked phone.
Good luck shubhkirti1997, but be weary of any possible solution that involves physically modding your phone until you're sure that there are no good alternatives.

^^^ This. For people who have a good head for electronic devices, this would be an easy task - but for someone not well versed in electronics, this could be disastrous. A single misplacement of the wires when inserting the battery could damage either battery or phone or both permanently.
jedi's advice is sound - charge the battery externally (I bought my BIONIC from CostCo, they provided an extra battery and an external battery charger) using an external battery charger, or borrow a friend's battery, or buy an extended battery (should come with 50% charge, which is around 65-70% capacity of the stock battery).

I really try very hard to respect the rules on XDA and don't make self promotional posts for TBH, but it's hard sometimes not to especially in view of the litany of items you suggested there. You can purchase a $10 Factory Adapter and never be concerned about the issue ever again for any Motorola device regardless if it has a removeable or non removeable battery or no battery at all!
And we will never be out of stock again...trust me!
Lol, I wasn't even thinking about it from the perspective of self promotion. I just knew an earlier post had suggested getting the Factory Cable already.
Until you mentioned it, I had forgotten that you guys had made the adapter too. Going to buy one *right now*.

NOW ITS WORKING FINE THANX EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP
I know that this thread is pretty old, but my question lies with my droid bionic being hard brick. What I read from the OP wasn't a hard brick and appeared only to be a soft brick. My issue is that I accidentally flash the wrong firmware into my phone following a post about turning the droid bionic into a global phone that I could use any sim with from any network. it was working properly but had some issues with the data network. back to the topic. I flashed the firmware using rsd but since it was the wrong one my system crash and no longer boots at all, the battery at the time was almost 100% so i know it wasn't because of the battery. I even made sure that I check with a battery charger I bought for like 5 bucks. My question is, is it possible to un hard brick the phone and restore it back to working again? I read around about using the JTag method but couldn't find too much detail about the subject. and each article relating to hard brick phones were specific only to that phone. I've search all over XDA to find out if there are any threads concerning this issue and even posted my own in hopes of finding a solution to this issue.
Hello,
First off, I have googled over the last 3 days for a fix, I have also searched these forums so forgive me if I have overlooked something.
I got a ReFurbished Droid 3 as a replacement for my old device(HTC Trophy) from Verizon Tech Support. I can not keep this device powered up! I have factory reset from within Privacy, and also from recovery. The device does this at random times and within 3 minutes of me pushing the power button. Sometimes during bootup(Where the Red Moto logo is) it will shutdown. Sometimes during the boot animation. Finally, if I somehow get the lucky chance of making it into the launcher, I usually get 30 seconds or 2 minutes. I tried to verify that the battery is working by downloading and installing a Battery app to check the voltage and see if the battery is bad, and there is no significant drain happening when not charging. Also, in the fastboot menu, Battery Status says "OK". So I have narrowed this down to being a PHONE issue and NOT a battery issue.
The device is on the 5.7.906 or w/e the newest firmware is. The phone does not feel hot. Also, in the recovery menu, I could probably leave the phone on that screen forever or until the battery would drain without the first reboot.
So the questions:
1. Is there a fix for this?
I fear that the replacement Droid 3 that is being sent to me is going to do the same, seeing as to how I got a replacement Trophy and it was doing the same as my old Trophy(Loved this phone). So this is going to be the 3rd device that Verizon has sent me and I really need a phone for work.
2. If I can install a custom ROM, would that help at all?
If this is a software issue, I would imagine grabbing any of the roms would fix this phone.
3. I know this is a known issue, but are there clues to maybe point towards a fix that needs to be done?
Maybe if I knew what the problem was(e.x. line 32 of build.prop says 'y' instead of 'x') and no one knew how to fix that, I could try to figure a way out to fix it.
Thanks for the help,
-Peperm1nt

yes, it goes to the charging screen when it is plugged up while powered off and shows 100%. I'll give the SBF a shot. A different device is being sent out and should be here Monday. Thanks.
ok, good that charge screen works
one thing you could do, is see how long battery lasts, in android recovery or AP Fastboot
should be hours, not really sure, though
Well, I was going to try and SBF but I don't wanna chance it now.. I did a Fastboot test and the device still randomly shuts down. Couldn't make it past 2 minutes. Guess I'll wait on the other phone.

I'll keep this sweet and simple:
What phone? Moto Droid 4, running on Verizon's network.
Problem? I had about 5% battery, was charging via my laptop when the most recent OTA update came in. I began to install, as it was installing the phone lost charge and turned off. Now the phone will not turn on and when plugged into the wall simply displays the bootup screen.
All attempts to load into safe mode have not worked
Attempts to have my computer recognize the phone does not work
I came here seeking a less conventional method to repair my phone and some sort of diagnosis.
Thank you very much for your time, Cantharis.
It sounds as if your battery is just dead, You should plug it in to a charger and let ti recharge for a minimum of 3-4 hours. After this time attempt to power it on. If it fails to start attempt to boot your phone into the bootloader. If you can get in to bootloader you should use either fastboot commands or the program RSDLite to reinstall the firmware. If you can not get the phone to boot into bootloader due to battery issues you may want to purchase a Factory Adapter from TeamBlackHat, this will power your phone directly from the microusb cable allowing you to install the necessary firmware even with a dead battery. You can get an adapter from them a shop.teamblackhat.info.

WORST MISTAKE EVER... so I purchased a fastboot cable and tried to get the phone up and running but it was mounting the device in windows as OMAP4430 so I tried again last month and I got it back up and running with the latest version of android... the one that came with the device.
I AM SO ANGRY AT THIS PHONE.. IT WILL NOT EVEN BOOT IN TO ANDROID!

I'm having a similar issue with trying to fix a friend's phone that only displays the "Dual Core" logo when plugged into the computer. The computer itself doesn't appear to register that the phone is connected so doesn't show up in device manager that I can see. Plugging into a wall outlet doesn't light the device screen up, only the computer (Win7 box). I believe he dunked the bootloader, and it's bricked, but I'm trying to fix it anyway. Anyone reading this, I would appreciate any useful pointers or suggestions. Thanks all.

battery maybe dead, if software is corrupt/soft bricked, phone will not charge battery
get a Motorola Factory Cable Adaptor by Team Black Hat or Battery Desktop Charger for Motorola Droid 3 XT862

That occurred to me as well, I'm going to first see if the local Verizon store can charge it (or even replace it) for free. My friend actually did manage to score a power cable, but I'm not convinced yet that that is what I need (since I'm getting nowhere with it). I'd like to eliminate the battery as an issue if possible first before spending any money.

Verizon will not replace battery for free, if phone is more than 1 year old
The software that charges the battery is very easily corrupted, can be reflashed with firmware, but need a charged battery.
The TBH factory cable adaptor will power the phone direct from usb port, no battery is even needed, then firmware can be flashed and charging will work again.

I've actually gotten a battery in the past for an obsolete phone, but out of packaging and possibly used. My friend acquired a power cable (not sure from where) which just lights the screen as described above (with or without battery installed), but turns off as soon as I unplug it, so I have my suspicions about the usability of his cable. I struck out with the local Verizon store, so will just order the wall charger and charge the battery next. Crossing fingers... Thanks for supplying that link tho, that's the one I will use.
Follow-up: It took 3 weeks to receive that battery charger from Singapore of all places, but it worked. I didn't charge it up all the way, maybe just to 50%. The phone with battery immediately was able to boot into fastboot. Using rsdlite and motohelper installed, I had the phone back to fully functional within 15 minutes.

Great, thanks for the update.

One thing you should check.
Is the battery bulged on one or both sides?
If you lay on a table, does it spin like a top?
If so battery should be replaced.

No, the battery was/is fine (in fact, fully charged afterwards it lasted 2 days on standby). I think my friend probably was just trying to flash a new ROM and didn't notice he had such a low charge. Still not sure why the cable he bought didn't provide the necessary charge to recover, but that's what you get sometimes with aftermarket equipment I guess. Still, it's good to know that is a possible solution for someone else down the road.

I already have this and I did not get it working so I got a DROID 4
Hi, so i have problem with my Moto X gen 1 battery, it goes up and down and up and down really crazy, like goes down to 47% then 15 mins later goes back to 50% then 49%- 48%-47% then goes back to 50% for at least 2 times in a row !!!!! that happens everyday. I've tried many ways but they didn't work so i need to root my phone to recalibrate battery by deleting BatteryStat.bin but i don't want to unlock boatloader because i'm planning to return it to Motorola when i get back to the US. I can't find any posts that can help me root 4.4.4 Tmobile without unlocking boatloader. Please help

- At this time, root is not possible on 4.4.4 without unlocked bootloader.
- A quick googling revealed a post from like two years ago on another forum that resembled your problem almost exactly. Unfortunately there were no followup posts. Nevertheless, googling the OP's username reveals he has an active account here on XDA (it's a pretty unique username, I doubt two people would coincidentally choose it). Since you seem to be out of options, you might try PMing him here on xda, remind him of his post from 2012, and ask if he solved it somehow.

Wouldn't flashing the SBF or fxz effectively wipe that file? I don't believe recreating that file would solve your issue, but if that's what you want to try, that'd be the closest to accomplish what you're aiming for.
tapa'd on my moto x

can't find any Sbf file of Tmobile 4.4.4 moto X, just found some 4.4.3 but installing 4.4.3 will hardbrick the phone
I believe letting the phone die and doing a full charge while the phone is off is a means of manually recalibrating the battery

If you have never done it on your phone, then it is usually suggested to let the phone run until it powers itself off. Use the stock charger (or other 1A charger) to fully charge the phone while it is still powered off. Once it reaches 100% let it sit for at least another 30 minutes. Power the phone on (while still plugged in), once the phone has fully booted, let it sit plugged in for 5 min.
Then Disconnect the AC cord, run the phone until it powers itself off... and repeat the process 3 or 4 times.
If you are still having battery issues, some have even suggested doing a full factory reset, and go into recovery and erase cache/davlik, then perform the procedure.
If that doesn't resolve it, you have a hardware failure with your phone/battery. Seek warranty or other replacement.
Its been suggested by some that once every 3 or 4 weeks you run the phone until it shuts off. Use the stock charger (or other 1A charger) to fully charge the phone while it is still powered off. Once it reaches 100% let it sit for at least another 30 minutes. Power the phone on (while still plugged in), once the phone has fully booted, let it sit plugged in for 5 min. Take it off the charger and go use/charge the phone as normal. This supposedly re-calibrates the internal sensor.
Does it work? I don't have scientific evidence to prove one way or the other. But I did notice a difference with my past devices and their spare batteries. My X is almost 1yr old and I haven't really run into issues with it yet. (but I do run it till dead once every three weeks and charge like that).
As has already been said... if you have 4.4.4 on your phone, you can't root it without unlocking the bootloader. And to be honest, on my older devices, I never saw any battery improvements or changes when deleting the BatteryStat.bin file.
