Issue After ROM Restore - Factory Startup Service - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since using the Sony Update Service to restore .434 Firmware back onto my phone, any method now results in the following messages to be displayed on the first boot of the phone.
Factory Startup Service, with two options Power Off or Use Phone. If I click use phone, then the phone allows me to run through the standard Sony setup, although sometimes it will reboot. I notice up the top corner an icon with two overlapping squares, when I swype down the top menu, the message says max checkpoints reached.
Anyone know if this can be fixed, with a service menu or similar.
I have tried, Sony Update Service, PC Companion repair phone, factory reset, have now even tried to restore other ROMS using root and CWM Recovery, tried formating cache and delvik then factory reset . All have the same issue.
After the next reboot, the two overlapping squares at the top are gone, and the phone seems ok to operate.
Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated, or if I have unlocked something special then spill the beans. I have attached the screen shot.

I had it too when i repaired my phone but it was only for one time and it disappear.
What i did is turned off my phone when this message showed up.
Try to repair the phone again and on first boot wait till this message show up and click in turn off than reboot the phone again and clear the notification.

It's nothing! Like a boot up process in pc, it checks for all functions are working as desired after the new firmware upgrade, it creates checkpoints so that every operation should be successful for it to complete! When everyois done (it should and it will) it'll ask for a restart (power off) so that the message can disappear. If u don't want, u can use the phone right away (use phone)! It's doesn't bother you until you flash firmware next time!

Cool thank you for your replies guys. I have never seen this sort of message before with any of my other android devices. I work in IT and max checkpoints reached is not a good message, it typically means that if you have a problem you will not recover from it, I was worried about the possibility of a bricked phone.

Nothing to worry about!

[SOLVED] HELP! Xperia T does not boot after JB update

I updated my Sony Xperia T to 4.1.2 a few hours ago via PC Companion 2.1. Everything was good until I restarted my phone and it got stuck in the screen with white triangle and blue bar (after the Sony logo). I waited but nothing happens.
I've tried to force restart using power button + volume up (switching off using the power button alone doesn't respond) several times but it still get stuck in the same screen. I was able to repair it using PC companion and SEUS (both were successful) but when I turned on the phone the problem still persists. Restarted several times but to no avail. I cannot use my phone right now.
What seems to be the problem?
My phone is less than a week old, unlocked, stock and not rooted. I will try to flash 4.0.4 back using flashtool coz it was working fine before the JB update.

I have read that this process can take some time, flash a rom and give it at least upto 45 minutes, if it is still not working maybe you have a more serious problem.

Re: [Q] HELP! Xperia T does not boot after JB update
I had this before, when going from 303 to 195.
Flash back the exact last full firmware you had prior to jb, if it was custom use the ftf the Rom is based on, it should boot, reset, then do the update again.
It took 35 mins to complete, I thought it was dead, once you get that screen, do not interrupt it or it can't complete and you need to start again.
Sent from my LT30p using xda app-developers app
OK, I was able to fix it and replicate it once but there's no certainty that it will not happen again once I restart the phone.
Here's what I did...
Since .233 did not work, I tried flashing the older firmware which is .303 - It worked!
I tried flashing .233 again to test if it has something to do with the firmware but it flashed without any problems!
I checked with PC companion to update to 4.1.2 but no update is available (since I used the UK firmware) so I flashed using the ftf file (.489) found here - it successfully flashed to 4.1.2!
HOWEVER, when the phone restarted (after inserting the sim card) and that's when the problem happened again! It stuck on the same screen. That's how I first encountered the problem earlier - the first reboot after updating caused for the phone to get stuck to that screen with white triangle and blue bar.
So I repeated the same process again (flashed .303 but skipped .233) then flashed .489 successfully but I DECIDED NOT TO RESTART THE PHONE this time. I'm not an expert so I don't know what's the cause of this??
My phone is working fine right now. Probably I will try to reboot the phone after 3 days to see if the issue comes back again.

Did the problem occur right after you updated? Or when you rebooted the phone for the first time after the update?
Mine was ok whether I updated via PC Companion or flashtool - the problem only happened when I restarted the phone for the first time after the update. So I tried not to reboot the phone on my third attempt. It's working fine now on 4.1.2. (as long as i don't restart it probably).
You can try the process I explained above and let us know!

Fix to get JB Running
I had the exact same problem, a white triangle after flashing the JB update.
Here's how I solved it:
1. Flash a .303 stock firmware
2. Turn on your phone without Sim card and without MicroSD
3. Complete the Setup Guide (just pass the 7 steps).
4. Get Ready to flash the JB update (.489 I think)
5. EXCLUDE BASEBAND BEFORE FLASHING IT
6. It should work now (is working perfectly on my Xperia T since yesterday)
If this helps you, hit the thanks button, I'm trying to build a reputation here

I mentioned in my process above that I will wait for 3 days before restarting the phone but I did it anyway to test your process. It didn't work for me.
I followed ALL the steps but after the phone restarted (when sim card was inserted) it got stuck on the same screen again. Have you tried rebooting your phone?
Looks like I'm gonna stay with .233 for now until this gets resolved.

How do we do that in JB?
I noticed that after I flashed the .303 firmware the phone asks that internal storage be formatted (there's a notification in the notification bar). So I did that. But after updating to 4.1.2 the problem repeats again after the first reboot (stuck in the screen with white triangle).
Sounds like my problem has been solved. :good:
I repeated the process by Samper27 (except that I didn't remove the sim card; I don't have an sd card).
After updating to 4.1.2 I cleared the internal storage via the settings and performed a factory data reset - my phone restarted without any problems. I could switch it on and off now without getting stuck in that screen.
Great!

Glad to hear that! I don't know the change with the SIM Card, for my it worked like that and I have turned off and on several times. After doing that I lost my APN configuration but a quick google search and BAM, everything working smooth and battery life is a little better than before.
You should update the post to let everyone know that the problem is solved

I have the same problem with this white triangle. The only firmware where the phone starts is .303. All other firmware doesn' start anymore.
I tried the process by Samper27, but it doesn't work for me. Could you please tell me which firmware of .303 and JB 4.1.2 you used? And what do you mean with factory data reset (Hold down the power button and volume up for 10 sec?)

Captivate gets stuck with black screen after booting. No response to anything

Phone: Samsung Captivate I-896, with AT&T stock Android 2.2 flashed to it. Rooted and unlocked.
Action: Deleted some *.odex files from Root/Data/App, following a guide to get around the "out of space" message while trying to install software. Cleared Delviks cache directory.
Problem: First restart after above actions(which didn't resolve the out of space message issue), phone shows start-up animations, gets stuck with black screen. Left like this overnight, nothing happens. Vibrates every 50 seconds or so. Respons to hardware Vol+ press with the home/back/menu backlight. Otherwise, no response to anything, black screen(backlight on). Does not receive phone calls. I do not know for sure if the action listed above is the one that caused this situation, but I assume so since it was the last action taken before the issue appeared.
Solutions attempted: Tried every possible permutation/combination of buttons/usb cable/etc/ restarts etc. listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858765&page=1, except Jig. The phone would not go into recovery or DL mode.
Question.
Am I correct in assuming that forcing the phone into recovery mode and reflashing a new system(or reflashing the old one) is the only way to get the phone to work again?
There is no way to "soft-reset" the phone, with all settings reverted back to stock, if it does not boot up completely?

Sounds pretty accurate. You'll have to get a jig to get in download mode, flash stock Odin KK4 to fix w/e happened during your testing.
Thanks Bwolf. I just tried ADB console on a different computer and it connects to the device just fine in spite of black screen. I guess I had one thing right, USB DEBUGGING enabled before this whole deal.
Question: is there any way I can restore the phone using the console without wiping everything?

Make a backup with ADB.
Once that's done, push download mode with it and get Odin KK4 (without bootloaders). You'll have to start from there to fix w/e went wrong.
You don't have to wipe your sd doing so but you will lose your apps and such. If you backed up your phone with your Play Store account, it will re-download your apps as you're done booting up.
To get back up where you were, grab Corn Kernel, flash it with Odin 1.87 and then follow the full instructions of the ROM you wanna use.

PHONE STUCK-white triangle with a screwdriver in it and a blue bar below (resolved)

hello all!
my phone was working properly (rooted but not boot unlocked)
pc companion told me there were a new version availlable (.253) I accepted, install, reboot, everything was fine.
I tried to backup my data in order to change the sd card to a bigger one...then it told me there was a problem while backuping so I did a reboot
this is where the problem begins:
now I have a white triangle with a screwdriver in it and a blue bar below it with an animation inside and it's stuck there...what does it mean for a start?
can you please help?
I'd like to recover it in order to get back my data (photos and video I wanted to put on the new sd card)
tried flashtool but it doesn't recognise the phone...
note: before doing all that, free space was low on my XZ internal storage (like 300 megs)

Unplug your phone from the USB cable and then start, see if that helps
This is exactly what I've encountered, can't find much help in the web, re-flash with wipe cache no joy, in the end re-flash with wipe data boot normally, last backup was 4 days old, restore and lost 4 days game progress...

That's strange.
Also had the same.
I updated to the .253 ROM and firmware etc and everything working fine.
I then rebooted after removing some system apps and got this.
I left it for a while and still stuck there.
Pressed a few buttons and still nothing then it suddenly rebooted (not sure if related to pressing the buttons or not) and everything was fine.
Then when it booted up it did the NFC firmware update so maybe related to that.
Not had it since and rebooted a few times.

Hi,
I also encountered this when I tried to use the old root method of .253. (yah, stupid of me but managed to salvage)
Just let it run for like 20 minutes or so and it will reboot subsequently. (As long as the progress bar still move, you should be ok)
Seems like a self-recovery process in place I guess.
yeah I guess you're right , but the first time was so long (more than 20 minutes ) so I thought it was dead...it is obviously some kind of self repair,
because now after a lot of reboots it suddenly started correctly after 5minutes of this blue bar moving....and now working? WTF?
things that I did in case it could help:
-used flashtool beta 4
-flashed a base .434 in blind mode (choosed xperia Z in the list)
-went into flashboot (press down and then plug usb) I had the green light for just a second...(I also installed EMMA drivers from sony , don't know if it helped)
-reboot then wait (I put it also on the docking bay , don't know if it helped as well but it made the blue bar go faster it seems, not sure tho...)
I used "hard boot" also : just jkeep pressing up and the power button until it vibrates 3 times.
maybe just puting it on the dock and then wait (quite some time) is enough (and makes sense)
I just had the same issue - WTF!!!
I just let it sit there for a while and it automatically started.
This is f*** crazy smart (stupid) phone.
DOn't know exactly what my wife did, but I doubt she flashed anything:laugh:
The battery died, she conncted to the charger, most probably with pushing some of the volume buttons and phone booted into Triange mode. Now it's stuk in this mode since an our.
I did Hard reset, but after phone is plug into wall charger it automatically boots in Triange mode.
This is in stock ROM without any modifications, unlocking, anything.

Just wait - sometimes it takes a while but it'll eventually boot up.
I think [NUT] said somewhere that this is a repair of certain permissions by the phone itself. I've only ever had this for some minutes - but it is possible if the battery an out it could invoke this. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.
And I think fastboot is blue led - you could try flashmode.
I tend to do lots and lots of flashing and mods so I've seen it several times. The first time caught me by surprise and lasted for a long time...now I'm just used to it ..
In my case waiting in triangle mode did not helped. Was waiting 5 hours at work. I flashed with flashtool again stock ROM without wiping data and still no response.
FInally flashed with wipe and phone is running but all data gone. What a crap.

[Q] Unroot and Reset without Screen? Pls help

Hi,
ma phone ist broken: the whole screen is just white and has stripes of dead pixels across it:crying:
I would like to reset the whole phone to factory settings, as well as remove all apps and the root access, so I can send it back to LG an try to claim warranty.
I have not found anything on how to unroot the phone.
I can propably reset via the Boot menu (pressing down power button and volume down when booting). But then i still need to know how many times i have to press the down button to select reset, since i can not see anything on the screen.
Any suggestion on how to unroot?
My Phone does have the original LG Rom, however it is rooted an i removed some of the original Apps.
Will they come back to the phone when i do a factory reset?
Or will I have to flash the whole phone again with some stock Rom in these forums?
If i do flash, will these also remove root?
Thanks for any answeres!

No i have the problem, that i am not able to see where to change the connection type when plugged in to the pc.
could you send me a creen shot of the screen, where you choose the connection-type?
I know i can get there by tapping on the notification bar when it is plugged in.
Or do you have an better idea how to resolve this?
Edit:
I have managed to change the connection settings by just tapping on the blind screen.
The LG Support Tool, which I got from the LG Website, tells me that my device is on the newest software, therefore I can not do an upgrade.
How do I solve this.
Secondly, on behalf of the first answere: How do I know if I unlocked the bootloader? I installed CWM, does that mean the bootloader is unlocked?
Thirdly, assume I somehow get to reset the phone and change everything back to factory settings and Apps, how do I know it worked without looking at the screen?
Man this thing is really tricky.

You can force an upgrade using the LGmobile Support Tool. This can be found under options>update recovery in the upper right corner. I suggest you put your phone into s/w update mode before doing this though. To do this, hold the VOLUME DOWN button while plugging in the USB cable and keep holding it until you 'see' the s/w screen (not sure if this is an option for you, haha. Just make sure you hold the V- button for a bunch of seconds). As always, make sure you have all the drivers.

Usually the answer is if you don't know if you onlocked it, you didn't unlock it. But you need to have an unlocked bootloader in order to get CWM, so I guess you do have it unlocked. You can check in the secret menu. I believe the bootloader status is also shown in the upper left corner while in s/w update mode. But since your screen is dead, it's kinda hard to check.

Not sure if that's possible for you.. Perhaps someone else knows a solution for that..
Flashing the kdz will automatically format your system and data partitions
In case you aren't sure from adb shell you can run format system and format data commands or you can use fastboot erase <partition>
Always from adb you can enter the shell and use ls command to list contents of the phon and check if it was wiped

Blu R1 HD Soft Brick

I have a Blu R1 HD that I have been on again off again fiddling with for a few months that is soft bricked. It will turn on but it will hang on the second "Bold like us" splash screen after the animation ends. It had no recovery installed to it prior to the bricking, I have attempted flashing a stock rom to it with SPFT but It gets interrupted less then 3 seconds in. From my reading It seems like I have the 6.6 preloader that stopped spft from working.
Is there anything that could be done with this to get it working once again?

It had no recovery installed to it prior to the bricking, I have attempted flashing a stock rom to it with SPFT but It gets interrupted less then 3 seconds in. From my reading It seems like I have the 6.6 preloader that stopped spft from working.
Is there anything that could be done with this to get it working once again?

Depends on few things.
Do you know what was last thing done before this brick?
Have you tried holding volume up when powering on, to enter recovery(stock, i know you mentioned no custom recovery installed)?
It goes to and past the animation , so i don't think it is a secure boot type of failure. But maybe a bad data problem. See above statement about recovery.

I have gone into the stock recovery menu, And i have attempted factory data reset, clearing the cache, and a root integrity check. The integrity check says one item fails the check and that is "/system/lib/libLLVM.so"
The last thing that I recall happening is that I had a pop up saying that an app had stopped working, But it reappeared immediately after closing it again several times. I thought rebooting it would stop whatever was happening, but it never came back to the OS.
The device has a small crack on the bottom right hand side of the screen that happened when it fell from my pocket on top of a ladder. A family member who also works with electronics as a hobby thinks that may have something to do with it but the phone worked for weeks after the break happened.

I do not know if there will be any way forward with this.
As you are not bootloader unlocked, sp flash refuses to connect, and only thing that can be done on stock is "factory reset" did not help, you might be done , other that see if can send to Blu.

Sending to blu isnt an option. Out of waranty period, And I also opened it to make sure there was nothing obviously physically wrong.
I also tried using the dirty cow tool, But i cant seem to see the device in ADB. Fast boot however, can see it.
Update over ADB/SD in the stock recovery wouldn't lead me anywhere would they?
