Hello guys. I have problem with my SGS i9000. When I overlocking my phone to 1100-1200MHz it works fine till I launch PowerAMP (music player) and after listening few songs my telephone is freezing with robo-sound for ~30 seconds, then comes reboot. But when it's not overlocked everything works fine. Any suggestions?
Alex. Ukraine.

Some phones like OC but some not. You should not OC.

I had the same thing only with powerAmp, playerpro is working perfectly
Try another player first

You could try lowering the overclocking to 1100 or try a kernel with liveoc'ing that may help

I have bought PwAmp, it's seems perfectly to me.
kevtrysmoddin, doesn't helped.
DerRomtester, but it's work fine without Poweramp
Firstly, which kernel you are using and to what value you oc your phone? OC CPU or live OC ?
Have you Tried playerpro trial ?

You tried an other Rom ?

Depends might be a kernel problem try semaphore and use liveoc 110% (most people use it like that) I'm using it like that and it works fine I tried 120 but i get some random freezes. Like they said some phones you can oc some you can't it's basically trial and error :/

Mackay Rom with Mackay Kernel.
Yes, I used PlayerPro before. Good player, no freezes, but poor sound Then I tried PowerAMP with Semaphore 115% OC, works fine for month, then it starts freezing. I thought it's because cold wheather outside. But I tested my phone. When I switch off music - it works fine, when I turn it up - after couple of songs it freezing.

Sure. I though this problem can be solved with reinstalling tehephone's FW, but I want to know which "bug" let my telephone freeze when OC.
Does it freeze without OC?
Really, if it works fine without OC there's really nothing to be said except don't OC. There's a reason why Samsung didn't ship your phone with higher frequencies, there's no guarantee the chip will be able to perform at those frequencies. It might be just a coincidence that it happens only with PowerAMP, but it just means your phone's CPU can't handle being overclocked.
It might be the case your phone is only unstable in one CPU-state (combination of frequency and voltage). Perhaps you could figure out which state this is and change your settings so your phone doesn't try to use that state.

ok So how can I figure out what state crashing all the time with OC?

You could try a cpu-monitor (one that shows the currently used frequency) and just keep an eye on it while playing music. This might (or might not) reveal a pattern. There's no guarantee though, it might just as well be all frequencies that are unstable...

Been possible for last 3months. Just find a kernel with oc support and get setcpu. Frankly its not worth it as setcpu is a piece of **** app that make your system unstable. As other poster said. Do a damn search

But for froyo? Maybe is asking for it.
maybe someone with the tallents could have a look into this OC method they use for droid x and milestone using a kernel module, this would enable us to overclock any froyo kernel.

It would be nice to have it in the kernel. 100 to 1200 that the system controlling like it already do. No setcpu crap.

also setcpu is not to blame for the problems, as it runs just well on galaxy i7500 for overclocking. i´m not sure what the problem wit it is on SGS, but i´m pretty its not setcpu´s fault

The problem is that SGS doesn't like different CPU governors! It will only work if you don't touch the governor settings! At least that is what I have found to work in the Eclair builds!

Seems ignorance is bliss for some of our fellow xda folks. SetCPU is not even needed for those oc kernels unless you want to change scaling from default schema. It really don't contribute to the unstablity, just that the kernels seemed inefficient.

I agree. Don't install SetCPU and the kernel is reasonably stable, but crashes miserably when running cup intensive apps. We have to work harder developing a kernel which works well for our hardware.

I can understand what you are suggesting, however why was it still unstable when I tried to disable 1.2GHz or 1.13GHz frequency keeping the original scaling and running at 1GHz or less??
Is that 0.2 bump really noticeable?

dont know which version you used.
1.13 was quite old. All recent versions were 1.2. Anyway, nevermind =)
Yeah, do want a OC'able kernel - the 1.2GHz kernels for Éclair were always stable enough for me if I didn't try to UV it.
Id be open to using a 1.2Ghz OC if its 100% stable and no wake-up bugs and ofcourse should not affect the life of my CPU that much and should not drain my battery more than 10% faster
Is anyone having problems with setcpu? My phone kept locking up in me forcing me to pull battery several times a day. Got rid of setcpu and haven't had a problem since. Now using NoFrills CPU controller and no problems what so ever. I can only come to the conclusion setcpu was causing problems. I've used it on a couple other phones with no problems but it just wasn't playing nice with the Thrill or some combination of apps.

I am actually having the same exact issue. My phone will freeze throughout the day maybe 2 or 3 times. I just hold the power til the phone shuts off. I am still running set cpu and just dealing with the freezes. I had setcpu on my inspire with no problems. Maybe its just the phone?

I have setcpu running. I've had a couple of slight issues but not what you're describing. I've noticed that my market will suddenly say no connect (or however it's worded) even though I have bars or wifi on. And there are times when I got to turn wifi off or on and it will just stay at the wifi turning off/on until I reboot it.
I also noticed extended controls is starting to forceclose a lot.
Day 2 with NoFrills and still not a single issue...

I believe the problems comes from setting the speeds too slow.
Only happens to me when I change the speed down to lowest when screen is off. Phone will lock up after it gets into Deep Sleep. After increasing the speed a bit, SetCPU has no problems for me

That's probably what it was then. Underclocking with nofrills hasn't reproduced the problem yet. I also used nofrill to change the I/O scheduler to though so that might be part of what fixed it. I'm gonna try setting CPU profiles with tasker and see what happens.

i think it's a rom problem,i face it when i'm on that build, but now i change to gueste.. and everything works, try to change kernel.. or rom..
I also had this problem on Parandroid CM10, no sign of life from the phone at all.
However, I reflashed the rom and now it works great.
Ok rom issue then. I will reflash it with a different one and kernel. Any kernel recomendations?

Happened to me on gueste2x v3.8 last night while I was USB tethering...and I was just pushing for a record time running made it to 160 hours and had to pull battery out to get it working again. As mentioned already, it's probably something to do about background data/wifi activity.
Nevertheless, I still recommend gueste2x v3.8  Give it a try

hello all friends. is there any tweak to increase our phone overclocking limit? my phone can be overclock to 806mhz max but it will hang if i use processor intensive app. it will stable if i overclock it to 787mhz only. but i things i feel weird, when i overclock to 806mhz then i run antutu benchmark it will be just fine wihout rebooting. why is this happen?

The latest firmware (10F) reduces it a bit. But it still gets warm, it's just the processor which produces a lot of heat when on full power.
So first step would be upgrading to the newest firmware. If you're already running v10F, there might be some bogus apps which keep the phone on full power and thus cause the overheating.
