Buy a used phone to use for the Trade In Offer? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So is there a reason why we couldn't just buy a used phone (i.e. I saw some Evo 4g's on Craigslist for $50) and make a profit with the $100 HTC One Trade In Program? Just thought of this today and wanted to check with everyone in case it'd be a bad idea for any reason.

nope, but make sure the phone is of value first, many phones are actually worth nothing.

As from my example, the OG Evo 4g is worth a small amount. So essentially, if I pay $50 for it, I could make $50 out of it. I'd rather do this and save my current phone as a backup.

the conditions did say that the trade in phone had to be active and used on your account but I am not sure how they would verify that..

I recall reading you need to provide proof of purchase of your trade in also. That's part of what's holding me back from trading in the GSII I have.
Edit: I was all kinds of wrong. It's with the proof of HTC One purchase... :banghead:

I"m pretty sure it's gonna fly on the recycling center without you getting any. I read on the terms that the phone should have no damage at all(except wear at tear). And if you sent a phone that doesn't meet the criteria they're not gonna return it and you won't get anything.

Are you sure? I read the terms and it sure does seem like you need to provide proof of purchase for the device you're trading in..
Sent from my LT30at using Tapatalk 2

you only need proof of purchase for the HTC one. it says that the phone youre trading in has to have been active but i dont know how theyd actually check on that. especially if youre trading in a phone with a hot swappable SIM card.

[Q] Is it worth selling my Nexus?

I was very interested in selling my nexus and before I did I wanted go get my fellow nexus one user's opinion. Why should I keep this phone? I was looking into the evo by sprint. The screen size amazes me. If I was to sell my nexus one how much would I be able to sell it for? What are some good reasons to keeping my nexus one? I love this phone but I have it stuck in my head that there is something better out there. Please convince me not to sell it.
wait for desire HD
If you want to switch carriers that's one thing. But on GSM carriers there really is no worthy upgrade till the G2, but even then... A stock 4" phone is needed, the Galaxy S is is more of a side-grade IMO.
The dev level upgrades are one thing that would make me keep this phone for at least mid way through the next year. I like the fact that Google will upgrade this phones' software for a while at least and we don't have to wait for hacked roms or carrier OTA's.
Hold onto it until the Dell Thunder! I am.

On Ebay Canada, used Nexus ones (ATT) are going for $500-1100,
Looking to sell mine for $450, is that a good price?
Definately keeping mine forever. It's more than just a phone.

There´s n better phone out there (for me )...just bigger screen phones, probably better screen, better multitouch...but that´s all just too little to convince me!
After my Nexus One, it has to be a step forward, like having 1.5 or 2 Ghz
A few points I'd like to share with you.
First, the Nexus One being what it is is reason enough not to get rid of it. It is a classic, it is the only HTC device available with vanilla Android and high end hardware, and everything else has some flavor of garbage depending on the manufacturer. It really is the modern day Google phone, their baby, and the device that gets all the updates before everything else.
I typically sell my old phones to pay for most of the cost of my new ones, but with the Nexus One, I'm pretty sure I'm going to use it until it dies and still keep it to remember how great it was after that.
As for switching to Sprint for the Evo, I would also wait until something truly worthy of replacing your Nexus One comes along (and on a better network). The added features of the Evo aren't worth the poor battery life and slower general operation when using it.
For my next upgrade, I'm going to wait for something with a higher-than-WVGA resolution screen, xenon flash, and something that can truly live up to the Nexus One's legacy.
^ Agree...Won't be selling my classic N1 for some time! And will never go to Sprint
if i buy a phone which is from att or tmobile will i be able to use it i m dubai (u.a.e)

and he was talking about the big ass sig i used to have.
I bought my Incs off ebay back in November for a "buy it now" price of $140(AUS). It was unlocked, only used previously for about 2 months, and it was in great condition. It didn't look used at all. All the other unlocked ones around that time period were selling for anywhere from $160 all the way up to $190 so I reckon I got a great deal. It probably helped that I saw noticed listing less than 3 hours after he listed it. I wasn't even planning on getting an HTC to begin with, but I saw how cheap this one was and thought I better snap it up before someone else got it.

Insurance claim thru Verizon

So my phone is pretty ****ed up, and if I can't fix it I am just gonna have to break it physically and take advantage of the insurance I got on this phone.
My question is, since the LG REVO is pretty old now a days, and they don't even sell it at verizon anymore, at least not online or at any of the stores in my area, and the lady I talked to on the phone from verizon said they don't sell em anymore. But what I was wondering and didn't ask her, was if my phone breaks and I claim the insurance for a replacement phone, and since they don't have my phone anymore, what will they do? Will they go backwards and give me a ****tier phone or will they be cool and give me the next step up. Either way I assume it will be a refurbished phone but I was just curious what kind of phone they might give me.
Any thoughts?
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda app-developers app
If your phone is messed up and your still under contract they may still send you a replacement at no cost to you... So call them first to try to warranty it out instead of paying for the insurance replacement.... But that's my thoughts on it.... Either way they probably going to send you another Revo
Sent from my Broken Out 2.1 VS910 4G powered by Mt using xda app-developers app
Yeah, most likely it'll be a refurb Revo, though you might be able to say, "look, I had trouble with it before it physically broke, can I get something else?" And they might say yes. Some have gotten Razrs that way,one got a Droid 4, someone even got a Gnex. More likely they'll offer something like a Spectrum. I'd be stunned if they tried to give you something inferior to the Revo.
"Inferior to a Revo"? You mean like a 5" chunk of 2x4 with icons and buttons drawn on it with a Sharpie?
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda premium
In all seriousness, while my time with the revo wasn't bad, it'd be hard for them to come up with an inferior replacement now that phones have come so far. I mean they'd have to go back to something that doesn't have 4g for one thing...not gonna happen.

That made my day. I'm counting the minutes until I can get a new phone.

Just got a refurbished HTC One. Everything is great but...

I just noticed I can see PM up on the top right side of the screen and some notifications in the top left corner during full screen apps, especially with a full grey screen. I didn't see those a couple hours ago when I got it.
Did I seriously just burn in my screen already? Is this normal for a "new" One? Or should I be freaking out?
I did nothing out of the ordinary since I got it. Just rooted it, restored apps, put it on the charger for a bit. That's all.
I see 127 views and no replies. No one wants to touch this one lol! I'm taking it back to Sprint in the morning. I shouldn't be getting burn in less than 24 hours into using any phone, refurbished or not.

Yea,i agree, take it back and make them replace it,it should last longer than 24 hours, wether you flash it or not,im upgrading to this from the EVO 4G,in 2 months, but it will be a new one, hahaha,i just cant wait,so i can start to dev for the One now and maybe port over my 4 kornerz rom.
I would take it back as well.
Also, pay attention to the screen. In my One, the speakers busted (same as my OG Evo, Evo 3D and Hero. Htc makes ****ty speakers) I also have a dead pixel so I filed an insurance claim. Today I received the new One and the display is garbage. The whites look dingy and yellow like a cheaper version. It doesn't compare at all to my current One.
I'm gonna send it back and try my luck again =\

Nope. You're lucky then because HTC speakers are cheap and it isn't just me who says so. Here is a quick google search but you can dig deeper and see for yourself. I never really cared because replacing the speaker was easy...but with the HTC One it is a repair nightmare.

I'll halfway attempt to break it down, but I doubt you'll understand.
There are people who break down how difficult it would be for the average consumer to do things such as repairs for these phones (hint:ifixit). The average consumer isn't gonna own all the tools/equipment or possess the knowledge/skill as a professional. This is true in probably everything you'll ever get repaired, otherwise mechanics have been ripping people off for years.
This phone scores as low as possible when it comes to repairs. It doesn't mean that professionals can't repair it. Ifixit isn't gonna breakdown how easy it is for HTC or other phone repair people, why the *@*! would anyone care about that? They are breaking it down for the not so skilled.

I got my phone replaced once already as well, but Sprint said they DO NOT use refurbished phones as replacements until the phone has been released for 6 months.
But what was odd is that my replacement phone didn't come with a box, so I dialed ##786# and checked the "reconditioned status" which stated "none." I wonder if this replacement is not a refurb, then why did it come with no box?

Sprint doesn't handle it, Asurion does. They'll tell you it could be new or refurbished. It all depends on what they have. Both of mine came with a box, but that doesn't mean they're new.

To update, my 2nd refurb seemed nice enough. But after having it a couple days, I've noticed the screen colors are pretty blown out and definitely not like it should be. Colors are as funky as they can be, and the screen itself is way too bright. And for insult to injury, the phone is unable to connect to 4G LTE. So back to Sprint I go!

Its fraud because it was suggested above that insurance gets placed on the device AFTER there has been damage to the device. It was suggested that the insurance company wouldn't verify the condition...it's exactly what it sounds like...fraud.
