Hi guys,
I've rotted my S3 Mini and I'd like to remove/rename the camera sounds files (shuter, focus ecc...)... can you help me fo find those files?
Check in system/media/audio/ui and there should be Auto_focus.ogg and Cam_click.ogg replace them with your desired .ogg files.

Not yet...
Thanks for response!
I've renamed from *.ogg to *.bck:
auto_focus.ogg
auto_focus_error.ogg
Shutter.ogg
Shutter_multiple.ogg
VideoRecord.ogg
After reboot only the shutter sound are silent. The autofocus and manual focus beep is still there and starting and stoping video recorder still make beep...
Any idea?
How bout listening to all of them on your PC (or even phone) and then recognize and delete/substitute proper ones? It shouldn't be that hard.

The focus sounds are inside the apk's raw folder.

How can we make an apk with no sounds?

I really hate the sound the camera makes when taking pics in CM6. I would prefer just a "click" or camera shutter type sound, not the loud beep it makes now. I know I can mute the sound on the phone, but I don't necessarily want no sound, just a different one.
I tried moving the camera ogg (whatever the actual name is) from the UI folder, rebooted, took a pic and the sound was still there. Then I noticed something interesting, the one I moved isn't even the same sound But I don't mind that one...so is there any way to make that one my camera sound? And where is the sound file that is playing when I take a pic if it's not the one I moved from the UI folder? I am running CM6 with DarkMod if that has any effect on anything...
The file you're looking for should be in /system/media/auido/ui/ called camera_click.ogg or something similar.
You said you removed that though?

Yup. Well, I moved it completely out of the UI folder onto the SD card, then rebooted, snapped a pic and it was the same sound, but the camera_click.ogg and the actual sound are not even the same when the file is in place. I am confused...

Ahh didn't notice this before, are you referring to a noise that sounds like the volume rocker up/down noise? The beep you hear is the auto focus, you can either turn auto focus off or turn focus to touch to get rid of it, otherwise I believe that beep is generated by the camera app itself, if I have time I'll take a look at it.
Edit
You can see it here on Github. Do a text search (ctrl+f) for "tonegenerator" and you'll see where it initiates - focusing.
Should be a relatively simple edit for those of us who know how to compile from git or smali edit. I'd do it if I had the time to, but unfortunately as of right now I have wayyy too much do deal with :/
Brilliant! That's what it was. Switched to touch focus and the annoying loud beep sound is gone. Thanks.

Is there a way to silence the noise the phone makes when taking a picture? It's the added digital shutter noise, and we all know that digital cameras don't make those noises anymore! LOL
Open the camera. Click menu then click the gear wheel. Scroll down and uncheck the box next to shutter sound.

Thanks! For some reason I new what to do but couldn't remember, major brain fart. Ok, another question....is pressing the on screen button the only way to take a picture using the camera or can you default the volume or on/off switch to take one? (I am talking about the normal back camera, not the low quality front one)
No problem...glad it worked for you.
As far as taking a picture, I think the only option at this point is to use the on screen button. In order to use one of the physical keys, you'd either have to use a different camera app that includes button-mapping functionality or wait and see if someone creates a mod for the Bionic's camera that allows it to be changed.
Anyone know what is up with 3rd party camera apps still making the shutter noise? I have it off on the default app and it works fine. But using a 3rd party camera makes the shutter noise no matter what. I've tried it with 2 other apps and both have an option to disable shutter noise but it still makes it. I guess not updated for the Bionic yet? Though that doesn't make much sense.

I can tell you that Camera360 does it for sure. Disabled the sound but it still plays anyway.
Vignette does it too. I turned off the sound, but it's still there.
I noticed the same thing with Tasker, even when all volumes are muted, using Tasker to take a photo (even with "discrete" mode), there is still a shutter click sound.

Quoting myself for solution: renaming "/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg" appears to disable the shutter sound for all camera use.

You've seen a lot of cameras with a pause for the record? I do not.
with some, old, phones is possible... some time back I had a samsung tocco and it was possible to start rec-pause anytime-restart rec anytime and even zoom in and out while recording video... which is not possible [at least not yet] with our phone
No app can provide these options??

For silent just go it ur system folder using a root explorer app and find the camera app I think it system/media/audio/ui and then just rename whatever file ur camera sound is labeled I'm sure its not the same for every brand of phone and voila no camera sound

This is a small tweak to increase the sample rate from 44100hz to 48000hz,
most of the users might experience little to no difference in sound after using this tweak.
so dont blame me and use it if you like it
just download the attachment file and extract it and copy the audio_policy.conf file to
system/etc/
directory
and replace it, reboot and enjoy.
here is the screenshot for confirmation

It might be possible your your headphones need more power for louder sound or your phone has bad audio chip or an software bug.

Go buy some low impedance high sensitivity headphones.
Hello all,
Can someone point me on how to disable annoying shutter sound for camera? Tried deleting the shutter.ogg file, but no success. I'm on Dr. Ketan ROM and in ROM control, there is Screenshot sound off, tried that, but no success either.
Note 9 has different CSC partition and I can't activate cscfeatures.
Please.
I have no root to use this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dc7.SilentModeToggle
Works o both Note 8 and 9 fine
Another work around is put the phone on silent, then open the camera app and voila.

Depends on the region/country. For most (like my AT&T version and your Verizon), it is in the camera settings at the bottom. But there are some countries (I believe Japan was the 1st) that does not allow the shutter sound to be disabled.
I have dr. Ketan ROM and there is no Shutter Sound in camera app. Is there a way but not with system sound off, I need notifications?
I would like not to try any app because an app installs a service and I do not want to.
Not an option for me, US Cellular

I have downloaded Open Camera which has Shutter sound off, it's a workaround, but it's not original camera that is better.

This is the easiest way.
I don't use system sounds. I prefer my device to be as silent as possible. If I want to hear fake computer noises I can watch a movie.
In pie its there for everyone

I just use the Macrodroid app, I set it up that when I launch the camera it's turns off the system sound and then when I exit the camera it turn the system sound back on.
You can get it in the Play Store, just click above on Macrodroid.
How to turn off shutter sound on camera
On your sound " system " slide to off
You can download Silent Mode Pro app from the play store to silent the camera shutter.

I did exactly same work Autoroid app. Works fine until I switch to Gallery app from the camera then it does not detect exiting camera to re-enable system sound

Routines (part of GoodLock) or Tasker does the job for me. Switching mute<->sounds if camera is running. Routines has some bug and sometimes lowers ringtone volume to 1 (min. volume) so there's a risk of not hearing phone calls. I stopped using Routines and went back to Tasker where I already have several other tasks.
Routines are still good for maintaining some Samsung specific tasks (playing with blue light filter, power saver, and some automatizations).
