HTC One for $99 off-contract with T-Mobile - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I own a GS3 on-contract with T-Mobile and by my understanding T-Mobile is selling the HTC One for $99 upfront with $20 per month for 2 years off-contract until the phone's paid off and my question is can I still purchase the phone at that price while already under contract and just have the $20 applied to my current bill? or does this offer only apply to new customers going on one of the new Simple Choice plans?

From my understanding, this offer seems to only be for customers on the Simple Choice Plan. Most likely, you won't be able to start this $99 initial/$20 per month deal until your current contract expires with T-Mobile. However, it would probably be best for you to call and ask customer service, if it's something you're interested in pursuing.

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I will try calling again. I just haven't had great experiences with T-Mobile's customer service but it doesn't hurt to try again.

I was told you could. You would just be paying off both phones instead of one
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda premium

Well if that's true then I probably will purchase the One for that $99. I can deal with a $120 (estimate) monthly bill.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

I don't think it would work.
However you can just open another line for $50 and add the Htc One phone contract to that line. Quit your service next month and just continue to pay off the Htc One.
So your only extra cost would be the $50 for one month of service. You don't have to touch the other line.

That's not a bad idea except I would have to pay more for this to work cuz I would be terminating my current contract just to move over to that cheaper plan, unless I misunderstood. If so please do correct me.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

To decide the best course of action it would helpful to know what contract you are currently on. Phone contract or plan contract? Classic plan, old value plan, or new value plan?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2

I am under the new value plan so I have unlimited everything. The reasons I wanna move to the Simple Choice plan are so I can pay less of what I pay now, hate contracts, and to get the HTC One at an affordable price and start working on my planned YouTube videos for the phone.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

Simple choice is the new value plan. If your value plan carries a contract then it's the old value plan.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2

My mistake. Should have reread my post but sorry about the stupid predictive dictionary off my keyboard. What I meant to say was I am on the Unlimited Value Talk + Text plan or in other words the old value plan and want to move over to Simple Choice for the reasons I already mentioned.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

In this case I don't know. You should be able to as you no longer have a contract when you switch plans. But I don't know if they will let you pay off 2 phones same time on the same account. ie $50 plan + $20 (galaxy s3 ) + $20 (htc one).
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2

I agree. I should be able to. only problem is just facing a possible termination fee for switching to a no contract plan even though I'd still be with T-Mobile. I'll figure it out but thank you so much for taking the time to help me out.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

iirc you are allow to switch to the no contract plan with no fees from the old value plan.
Under the old value plan you have a contract on the value plan and another contract on the phone (if you took EIP payment plan). They don't make you pay etf for the value plan anymore. But you are still on the hook to pay off the remaining balance of the EIP phone contract.
If you want the htc one you get another EIP contract. That's why I said I don't know if they will let you take on 2 EIP contracts on a single line.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2

What about if I bought my nexus 4 off contract but signed a contract to get a cheaper monthly plan? Currently I pay 30 for my plan (family plan my line). I don't pay for a phone but I'd be willing to pay 20 more for the one. Anyone know if that would work?
Sent from my Nexus 4

*UPDATE* Only 1 EIP per plan so if I wanted to purchase either the GS4 or HTC One for $99 off-contract I'd have to pay my remaining EIP balance of my current phone in order to start up a new one with one of these devices or any future devices offering the same deal.

This is my current quandary, figure I can sell my Nexus 4 and pay off EIP balance and buy One and still profit!!

Question with T-Mobile and HTC One

I really want this phone so bad. I'm on T- mobile paying $75 for completely unlimited everything. My question is does it make sense for me to buy it online or through T-Mobile? I really don't understand their new policy on buying new phones through them. Does anybody have experience buying phones through them with their new policy? Is it really cheaper?

I see all of you talking about paying $150 or more for this phone when instead you could be taking a hundred dollars off by just getting a land line with Sprint as well.

plus i take insurance off
Mines almost $300! With 4 lines though...
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Why do you take insurance off? Don't TEP cover your phone when you have a brick or something like that?
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4
I have the same plan and mine is always just over $100.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
261.62 for 5 lines, really on the fence to try AT&T though, Sprint only offers 10% discount while at&t is 30% for the company.
I have the same plan with TEP and the $10 premium data. $83 after taxes, fees and employee discount.
That $10.00 premium data is a big joke as there is nothing premium about it. I am lucky to to get a half meg down or a ping under 250.
Companies can state any price they want now and just add fees to everything.
I was thinking that when I upgraded from EVO 3D to the ONE I would get better speeds. Not so!
Hell my Hero did better than the evo or the one.
So why the Hell is the bill so inflated?
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk 4
if you had a business discount, you might wanna check and see if its been taken off.
sprint apparently sent me a "renewal paper" in the mail, never got it, so i was unaware that i had to renew my discount.
ended up losing it, and my bill went from 70 to 90, just like yours.
had to go through the new discount program webpage and all that chit just to get a discount. not to mention signing a 2 yr agreement.

Taxes, surcharges...all that fun extra stuff the government and Sprint like you to pay. Its been skyrocketing the past few years.
You're on an $80 dollar plan before tax. Assuming you don't have insurance...$91 isn't that bad. It's called taxes.
I'd recommend rolling over into the My Way Plan. $80 would give you unlimited everything rather than 450 minutes. Get more for the same amount of money. Check into discounts through AAA, any credit union member or your employer as well. But honestly for a contracted carrier...your price isn't as unreasonable as you're making it sound considering the prices of other carriers. I believe you could save around $10 or so with T-Mobile. Not sure how their coverage is in your area though.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Just about any company in existence gets a discount with Sprint lol. Just check with them, even my employer gets a measley 13% discount but that's almost $17 off per month which is pretty reasonable.
If you can't get a discount through your employer I think they offer discounts to credit union members. Open an account with the minimum amount and profit.
I pay $82 and that includes the $11 insurance.

Helping a bud about upgrading.

He wants to upgrade to the note 3 but he is not qualified till next year.
Not sure how Verizon and att are different about adding lines.
Can he add a new line. Get the note 3. Then turn around next day or online and drop that new service to basic line ? And just pay the 9.99 or w/e the basic phone price is then swap the note 3 to his main line?
Thanks

Ive done that on att. You need to have a dumbphone (non smartphone) imei number for customer service to drop the required data plan they make you buy with the note 3 otherwise you have to pay for the data plan plus the 9.99 extra line fee

How long has he had service? I'm not qualified for an upgrade until next year but was able to get an early upgrade..have him dial 611 and ask to get transfered to ”customer resolution” ..oh I'm also a Premier member not sure if it has anything to do with it..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
You can call customer service an request an early upgrade. The agent who handle your call will have to get an override from a manager. So it'll depend on the agent who receives your call. But you can callback several times until you get an agent who's willing to help you.
I upgraded my line before my contract expires. I was 11 months into the contract.

Exactly, all these new plans Sprint is coming out with end up costing us more money than the plans we already have so why would we switch to them.
This is really tempting since T Mobile has better coverage and more 4G where I live than Sprint.
I'm going to scope it out. Might be something to jump on.
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Well I went to the website to check out how much it would be for 2 lines and it would end up costing more on T Mobile. First off you HAVE to finance a device or pay the full price up front. So 2 lines with unlimited everything comes up to $120 per month plus if I were to get 2 HTC Ones that would be an extra $50 per month. So $170 before taxes and fees. I think you have to buy the insurance also but I'm not sure. I'm going to go into a TMobile store and check it out for sure though.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
I don't understand why people think these no contract plans are any better than signing a contract.
Why would you want to be on the hook for paying off a 600$ device rather than paying a 200$ early termination fee..

Exactly. Good info for those who want it. Those who don't shouldn't complain, just stay where they're at. Already sent a link to a friend who was talking about jumping ship from Verizon.
Sent from space...
Yeah I'd rather have my text messages send and receive normally. Past T-Mobile people I've texted have told me of "texting issues" and the whole "edge" thing. No thanks, if my LTE drops, at least 3G is faster than edge. And I'm not giving up my unlimited 4G LTE & tethering. As for upgrades... If I really want the phone like my two HTC Ones then I pay full price. T-Mobile sounds good and all but i know there's a catch there some here. And Sprint made me happy thay my AT&T friends with extreme speeds sometimes ask me to lend my portable hotspot when their LTE drops to HSPA or Edge.

I went to a T-Mobile store today to inquire about it. What kills it for me is that you HAVE to purchase a device from them, and our Ones are only worth $106 in trade-in. Doesn't seem fair when I could sell it on CL for $275. The cost would work out roughly the same. $86/month. They also don't pay the ETF directly. You have to cover it, then you get a prepaid MasterCard in 4-8 weeks. So to start the plan, you're looking at potentially hundreds of dollars.
Yeah, it's contract free, but it's not really worth it in my opinion. Sprint does just fine in Metro Atlanta, and as much as I feel I'm getting boned by them, it's the smallest in the long list of dicks that are phone companies.

Yeah, what he said! I work in Pendergrass, Geogia, which is about 90 miles north of metro Atlanta, and formerly a 3G area if I was lucky. Within the last four months it has gone from spotty 3G to 2 bars of LTE. And that's literally out in the boonies. That much improvement that fast is worth hanging around, especially with the whole Mastercard bait and switch crap. Sprint is really earning my business these days. My penny and a half...
