[Q] SURVEY: What topic that you think is more interesting? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Yesterday, i asked your help to give me some ideas for my website project. I know that it was pretty confusing for all of you here. So i want to make it simple this time.
- Right now, i want to make a website.
- I want this website to help consumers get the best and lowest price of carrier deals for smartphones (flagship ones) such as from Amazon or directly from the carriers themselves.
- i want consumer who visit this site can get the best deals according their needs, such as: the best deals for internet data/phone call/SMS.
- I want this website to be like other websites that can give, say, the latest coupon codes of web hosting, iOS or Android apps, or maybe low cost travel/hotel deals. But, in this case, the coupon codes are the lowest and best deals for smartphones.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
- I also want to offer the readers of that website a magazine as a FREE giveaway (PDF e-Book) if they subscribe to my email newsletter.
So what i want to ask to you is, from all the topics below (for that FREE giveaway magazine), which the one that you think will make readers want it so bad and attract them to subscribe to my website email newsletter?
1. 10 Best Deals for the latest smartphones.
2. 10 Best Deals for the latest smartphones in 2013.
3. 10 Best Deals for iPhone 5, Samsung GALAXY 4, HTC One and other popular smartphones.
4. 10 Tips to get the best and lowest smartphone deals.
5. 10 Places to get the best and lowest smartphone deals.
5. 10 Things to Avoid before Signing the smartphone contract.
6. 10 Best Deals for the latest smartphones on Amazon.
7. 10 Hidden Places to get the best Deals for the latest smartphones.
8. 10 Best Carriers with the Best services and Affordable Deals.
9. 10 Worst Carrier Deals you must avoid.
Which one that you think is more effective to attract people and make them want to sign up to my email newsletter?
If you have any other suggestion for other topic that is more interesting that mine above, please feel free to shot your opinion here.

Hi guys and girls here,
I really need all of your help. COuld you all please give me some ideas for my survey here. I'm planning to make a website and with this website, i want to help customers find the lowest cost carrier deals for smartphones and tablets", of course for the latest flagships/tablets around the market to date (like iPhone 5, SGS SIII/S4, Xperia Z, etc) and the most popular carriers in the world (like Verizon, AT&T, US Cellular, etc).
What i really need is, for example, if i make a website, what kind of tips or solutions do you always want to know every time you're planning to buy new smartphone or tablet? What type of information that you all usually search on the internet in order to get the best deals before buying the smartphone.
For examples are like,
"Which carriers have the lowest cost of internet data/phone service/text plans for iPhone 5",
"5 Tips to find the lowest cost carrier plans/deals" or
"the pros and cons of using cheaper carrier deals",
"the pros of cons for using internet data on verizon for iPhone 5"
or something like that.
So please could you all help give me some ideas for articles that i want to make about this topic. I really appreciate all of your help here. Thanks..

This may sound harsh, and i dont mean to be. . . But www.google.com springs to mind, research, and also theres lots of websites out there like that. . . just look and read.

This is off-topic and shouldn't be posted in the HTC One thread.

I think you're ten years too late, here in germany there a lot of websites to find favorable contracts with highend smartphones.

The smartphone war

Hey my geek friends.
I come from Denmark and i go to a "high school" there.
I just got assignment about the smartphone market in USA and I am suppose to write like 20 pages. And I want your help.
It goes like this;
Explain the U.S. market for smartphones and selected corporate competitive strategy.
Analyze the competitive situation in the U.S. market for smartphones and include in your analysis a characteristic of the U.S. smartphone consumer.
Evaluate the success criteria can be set for companies in this market.
Good articles, ideas, another made assignments, websites, really anything.
Hope you will help me.
I know this isn't a helpful answer, but I will give you the general idea.
US carriers SUCK, decent service and phone selection, but SUCK when it comes to other things such as customer service generally, locking down their stuff, and pricing.
Care to explain?
Sent from my LT18i
I remember those days of this type of school work.
Here is one quick recent article that might help you:
itproportal.com/2011/12/15/apple-google-duopoly-us-smartphone-market-iphone-android-command-82/ Goo luck!
I'll take a shot at a basic overview...
From the most basic marketing point of view I would say that most all carriers market too 3 groups:
1. Individuals concerned mostly with style and functionality that have little or no tech smarts.
2. Individuals that put tech and functionally concerns ahead of style (these would tend to be power users)
3. Families
From these three major groups the carriers develope their "calling plans" with personal and business users something of a subset in there somewhere.
The manufactures on the other hand from what I've seen market exclusively to tech savvy power users which means their advertising there latest and greatest devices.
And then of course there is the whole Iphone vs Android thing...lol
And of course I could be totally wrong about all the above as I'm just bored and randomly checking out threads...

My approach to your questions:
I'll give some of my own opinions on your questions that might help spur some ideas; from an economics student's point of view.
You might consider touching on how a new phone comes out every other week, for all the carriers and how that affects competitive markets. There's saturation in the smart phone market. Though the demand for smart phones continue to rise continuously year to year. As smart phones become more popular, manufacturers are supplying more of the product. What may loom in the competitive market is bargains in the future. In fact a recent article I read about Huawei Ascend D quad XL says the company claims to have the "fastest smart phone upcoming" and that it will be at only 30-50% of current market prices. If that's true be on the lookout for a price-drop in the smart phone market.
People have different priorities when they select a smart phone, thus there is no one phone that’s best for everyone, the market must take into account the consumer criteria when selecting a smart phone such as, hardware design and features, brand names, network technology like 4G, the OS and interface, the carrier, and cost. If you were to analyze success for the market you should look at one of the basic rules of economics in the US, supply demand. Modeled by what the suppliers are making and the market is wanting. This will determine all the ideal factors that criteria when producing smart phones will create. Success will be analyzed by which market best meets the criteria. Also take into account that most of the smart phones in the US are not US made, or at least from a US company, that will be a large portion of an analysis on US gross on smart phones in a competitive market.
The article was from Android Authority on the Huawei Ascend D quad XL.
Source: Economics student.
I think it would be interesting to include comparison os iPhone vs. Blackberry in some areas like:
- young people
- big corporation
and also which smartphone are the carriers subsidising more.
I would talk about the subsidies that people in the US get on their devices and how it distorts peoples view on the value of their devices. Also I would suggest you to talk about how the US uses different frequencies for their network as well as GSM and CDMA networks and how phones are not only network locked but won't work (or you need to do a lot) to get them to work on other carriers

You may find this site to be a meaningful resource for your research. I would suggest to start with this article "2011-customers-view-of-smart-phones" on Amplified Analytics blog

Anyone know a good site to sell used laptop?

Does anyone know a good site to sell my used laptop?
Not crazy about ebay because i've already canceled one ad on my account, if i cancel another i might get charged a penalty (if i end up selling it somewhere else while in the mean time... i want to sell it fast)
Not crazy about craigslist because the laptop has signs of cosmetic wear especially on the lid (does not impact performance purely cosmetic) but in the eyes of a non tech savy buyer that = worth much less.
Best buy trade in is a joke they offered me like $100 for my gs3 which i sold on swappa for $270.
All the hundreds of sites that give instant quotes seems a little sketchy because theres a bunch of identical sites, all of them ask for little to no info for the quote, they say send us the laptop THEN you get paid. Also the quotes are pretty low.
And sites like gazelle don't have a category for regular laptops.. only macbooks and iphones.
It's a hp dm4 1060 with a core i5, 4gb ram, 500HDD, 13" screen. Paid $650 for it 3 years ago i really want to get $300-350 for it at least, its worth a hell of alot more than that. Anyone have any advice?

Thinking about gettin the Chinese 802w Dual Sim... Advice please

Hi Folks,
I'm thinking of jumping the iOS ship and heading straight for the daddy of smartphones.
I love the idea of the dual sim - work & personal - hence why I'm considering the 802w. At the moment the only option is to do a Chinese import. It does come to the UK later in the new year but it's on pre-order only and it's a direct buy from HTC. Buying it in China I can save 1/4 - 1/3.
My main concern is if I'll be able to remove all the Chinese bloatware and revert it to a "clean Western" rom without too much pain. I've seen a few threads on here, I've skimmed the first few pages of each, but I've not read through them in detail, I've not dabbled with Android before and I don't have the phone, so I'd just like to get some unspecific thoughts...
I have pretty extensive experience modding iOS so I'm not too concerned about playing with the HTC and "getting there in the end", but I guess I'm hesitant if there are issues making the phone run seamlessly. I suppose what I'm asking, is the trade off worth it? Should I just wait another month or two and pay the extra to get the UK spec.
What, if any, would be the disadvantages of getting the Chinese import over waiting for the UK spec, besides the money.
Advice is greatly appreciated, thanks and happy new new!

Nexus 6 at Best Buy?

Has anyone heard anything on the Nexus 6 at Best Buy? If this is an option, any one going this route?
I have a Best Buy card and I am considering getting the Nexus 6 from Best Buy if the option is there. I believe it's is 0% interest if you pay it off within a year's time from purchase. Plus you get rewards for using your Best Buy card.
Havent heard anything from them yet.
I want to go through best buy too since I am the elite plus member and I have some GC to use.
I assume they should get it on the 12th too though...
You can't ask B B either because they can only look at the same website you look at.....
I did see one of the Google pages that had the white Nexus 6 for sale showing a bunch of greyed out logos indicating where the phone would be available, one of which was Best Buy. Worth watching.
My best buy said they probably wouldn't get any at all so we will see
Quite a few rumors of them selling it, plus they sell for the big 3 carriers so I imagine they would have to. They already have the nexus 9 listed up, so I bet they'll get the 6 too.
I'm currently with T-Mobile and they are only going to carry the Midnight Blue. I plan just to buy the white from Best Buy with my Best Buy card then take it to T-Mobile for their service. Best Buy has told me they will carry the phone but they do not have a date. Hope that Best Buy gets the Cloud White!

You have to be careful on who to ask when it comes to stock on some devices at BB locations. A few of the ones I traveled to had Apple Product Salespeople hanging around the cellphone department acting as they work in the department but are simply trying to do whatever they can to pull you towards interest of an iPhone. They would tell me when I ask about the stock of the Nexus 5 and the coming stock of the Nexus 6 "We do not carry T-Mobile devices" in which I just walk away from them and try to get the attention of a proper employee of the department.
It amazes me the ignorance of some sales people considering that they sold the Nexus devices contract free. It makes me wonder where the hell they pull these people from.

They're underpaid workers who are not techies. Anyone who knows, really knows, anything about computers or electronics finds a much better job than BestBuy.
Always been that way.

Yep. That's like asking the guy stocking cough syrup at the grocery store about medicine...
Don't expect him to know anymore than you, and in reality he probably knows far less.
He's essentially the best warm body they could get for what they pay, which isn't much.
I was just given this information. I can't provide source due to this person could be an employee of Best Buy. How much of this is a fact, I don't know.. I did cut out one line to help protect this person if it is legit.
This is what I was told;
""""I dug through some employee systems and found the nexus 6 listed on AT&T at full retail of $649.99 with a street date listed as 11/21. So it should be in stock there or shortly after.
No other carriers in best buy at the moment. I forgot the sku but I'll find it for you again when I work.""""
and now its known.. http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-6-best-buy-release-566428/
Thank you for this. I've been calling maybe every other few days and asking their reps here and I've even gotten "I didn't even know there was Nexus 6". One even asked me if I ment the 9. We don't have a T-Mobile here in Alaska so options here are scarce...

All Things Huawei Honor Note 8

Per the advice of senior XDA moderator I'm creating this thread for *All Things* Huawei Honor Note 8 phone. This phone does not yet have a dedicated forum, so you can discuss here anything from development topics, such as rooting, bootloader unlocking (there is a working method already), custom roms/recoveries to exchanging opinions about performance or accessories for this phone, which you like.
Honor Note 8 is currently released in mainland China only. However, Honor stated the phone will have international release soon.
Please note, this thread is *NOT* for Huawei Honor 8, which is completely different phone. Stay on topic and have fun. :good::laugh:

I have an old Galaxy Note 3. I'm in the USA on Verizon. I've been drooling over the Honor Note 8 since I first heard of it. It's exactly what I want. I cannot get a straight answer online on several questions.
1. Will it work now on Verizon? Most say no, some say yes.
2. Will it come to the USA soon? Again, I'm getting different answers on this.
3. Are there 'tricks' I can learn to force this phone to work well on Verizon now very well, or should I just wait?
I'd prefer to stay on Verizon, but I'd switch to AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile if I have to in order to use this phone.
I'm not a tech wiz, so I'll need some help here. If you can answer my questions and guide me, I'd sure appreciate it. Thank you very much.
Proud Owner of the Huawei Honor Note 8
Hi All,
So having lived in China for a while and having owned and used Huawei phones in the past (my last Huawei Phone was the massive Mediapad X1), I can testify to the quality and advantages of huawei smartphones.
First, I've had this phone for about a week. I ordered it off of aliexpress. I'm pretty familiar with making purchases from chinese websites and getting technical support from chinese companies and sources so i was pretty confident with making this purchase (I can read/write mandarin). Phone arrived super fast and I was happy with the purchase.
Right now I'm working really hard to root my device. I have already unlocked the bootloader using the dc-unlocker method and it worked perfectly (btw, its cheaper to download the app and pay only 1 usd instead of 4 euros). I'm literally scouring the internet and all the chinese websites for news on different roms, but very little luck thus far. I have downloaded some different versions of the operating system (ver. B017 only, as B018, B019, and B020 are not yet available as far as I've seen) but these versions are not boot versions. So no luck there.
I've also spoken directly with Huawei regarding when they will release the updated factory versions of the operating system for download from the EMUI website. There is no confirmation that they will even release them however, as the answer I received was that Huawei wants to move to a system in which all updates are OTA. I was a bit upset to say the least but we'll see what happens in the future.
For now just enjoying this awesome phone. feel free to ask me any questions.

I have two questions:
1. What's the audio output like through the headphone 3.5mm jack?
2. What's the camera like?
Click to collapse
To answer your questions:
1. The audio output is excellent. Crisp with perfect amount (not too much I hate that) of base. The volume goes loud enough (using the jack) to hurt my ears, and that's hard to do.
2. The cameras on Huawei phones are usually very good to excellent. This particular phone does not sport Huawei's top camera (I think that might be the Huawei P9 plus or the Mate 8. But again, those phones are much smaller and focus on high quality cameras. This phone's advantages are its size, screen quality, CPU and memory. The camera is very good but definitely not top top quality. It doesn't focus instantaneously for example like some galaxy cameras, but I think it's good enough. I'm not THAT into photography.
3. ALSO**** just so everyone knows, I bought this phone because I wanted to use the latest CAT6 4G LTE speeds in Brazil (where I currently reside) and in China. I'm American though btw. The version I bought in its current form from China does NOT support the LTE bands commonly used by AT&T. Its bands are (1,3,7,38,39,40,and 41). Thus, 3G is the fastest speeds you would get in the US with AT&T. But it will be 4G in Europe, South America and China. If the phone is sold in the US market, Huawei changes the LTE bands to suit the target country's market, so I'm sure the bands for any US or International version of the phone will have different bands.

Some corrections/clarifications to what Racerdude and toasty32 said. First, no one will be able to answer questions about Verizon, because Honor did not announce this phone for US market yet, and it also did not pass through FCC certification. Having said that - most likely the answer is No, it will not work on Verizon. Typically, what Huawei, ZTE and other Chinese manufacturers do when they bring phones to North American market - they don't strike a deal with carriers and they don't release carrier branded phones, like Samsung, Apple, LG and others do. If you want to take past behavior of Chinese manufacturers as an indication what Honor will do - they will just release GSM only (no CDMA, hence no Verizon or Sprint) US version of Note 8, with all North American LTE bands enabled, and let people decide whichever GSM carrier they want to use it with. Honor just did this exact thing with Honor 8 phone in US a couple of weeks ago.
What toasty32 said about this Chinese version working in Europe and South America is not completely true - this Chinese EDI-AL10 version has only one overlapping TDD-LTE band 38 with some of South American carriers (most don't use it), and some European countries support LTE bands 3,38,40 so in some Euro regions 4G will be spotty at best, and in many places won't work at all. Here is the list of operating LTE frequencies by country and carrier
US T-Mobile requires LTE bands 2,4,12 (and optional band 17 used by AT&T because FCC requires them to support roaming)
US AT&T requires LTE bands 2,4,5,17 (and optional band 12 used by T-Mobile because FCC requires them to support roaming)

I've used dc-unlocker before and had to pay 4 euros to read bootloader code. Do you mind explaining what you meant by this, what app are you talking about and how to pay only $1 USD instead, to unlock bootloader?

i've done some research into this and followed up with some other threads with people who bought the phone. Forget the different phone frequency websites, this phone will not get you what you want in the US. No LTE. Some carriers like tmo will get you 3g/3.5g hspa+ but that's the best you'll get and not a smart move. I'm also desperately waiting some any big phone to come with US compatible bands but as it seems now, we're still waiting..
Hi everyone, i write from Italy.
I always loved big smartphones and this would be one of the best right now.
Unfortunately, i think that Honor won't bring in Europe.
I talked to their FB page, and they wrote me :
"Hi Marco, we don't have official news to launch the honor note 8 in Europe. If we have any plans, we will announce at once on our page, thank you - If you buy it from China, Well.. Then the warranty and post-sale service would not apply elsewhere but China" .
I'm a bit disappointed actually, i really don't understand why this amazing phon is sold just in China and they said " We don't know either" ... GOOD
Guys, on the web i saw that the camera sensor is the Sony Imx 278. (Same of P8/Mate S/G8) ...i'm a bit disappointed because i didn't love this camera sensor in the past...what do you think ?
Can you guys update from which seller in Aliexpress you bought from?
I paid for the phone last week and it has been 7 days but no update from the seller. Today I cancelled the order but Aliexpress have rejected it stating Seller has the phone in stock and order cannot be cancelled. The sad thing is Seller is not responding has 40 days (33 now) to ship the order (I did not see this while ordering). I ordered because seller was the Highest/most reputed seller while sorting and had DHL shipping. Any ways to resolve?

Edit: Avoid this seller at all costs!

Can you guys update from which seller in Aliexpress you bought from?
I paid for the phone last week and it has been 7 days but no update from the seller. Today I cancelled the order but Aliexpress have rejected it stating Seller has the phone in stock and order cannot be cancelled. I'd tell Aliexpress to F*** OFF and do a chargeback with your credit card company. People should be allowed to cancel orders, for items which havent shipped, at any time. I'd also recommend to never buy from that marketplace again. Use places like Amazon, or at least eBay, where things are controlled more tightly and these US headquartered businesses will not screw you over without explanation.
My experience with AliExpress and UPDATE on ROOTING
Hi All,
So to answer the question regarding Aliexpress....I purchased from this store/seller here:
.aliexpress.com/store/1802347?spm=2114.13010608.0.126.x0uHsw
and in particular, this product:
.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Huawei-Honor-Note-8-4G-LTE-Mobile-Phone-Kirin-955-Octa-Core-6-6-2K/32714180113.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.129.x0uHsw
I used singapore expedited shipping (super cheap) as it was one of the few options I could use to get expedited shipping to the US considering there was a lithium ion battery being shipped internationally.
I cannot stress how pleased I was with both the seller and the service. I understand that Aliexpress may have a bad reputation because it is a foreign/chinese website and doing business internationally is almost always more difficult that doing business domestically, but that being said, I do want to be fair, and when I do have a good experience, I'll promote it. Like any mass seller website ebay or otherwise there are going to be good merchants and bad ones. Luckily I found a good one.
cheers,
chris
UPDATE:
I was able to finally root this phone with the help of some Chinese programmers (from bbs.xxroot.com <--- the Chinese equivalent of xda developers haha). More details to come.

Just wanted to point out that Aliexpress has bad reputation not because it is a foreign/chinese website, but because that reputation is well deserved. I personally got scammed for over $300 by that site years ago, and I personally know several people, who got screwed as well. Also, if you do a bit of internet research then like you said - you will discover that marketplace has a bad reputation, and for a good reason - there are plenty of people's testimonies of fraud. Aliexpress is nothing like eBay - scam/fraud rate is orders of magnitude higher.
If you want to take the time and post the root guide for the rooting method you used - I'm sure it'd be much appreciated by a lot of people here, who have or plan to buy this phone. Also, you didn't answer my question from earlier post about how to avoid paying 4 euros to dc-unlocker for unlocking the bootloader.
How can Honor put the same camera of Huawei P8 (Just sufficient) in a phablet with 4gb of Ram DDR4, Kirin 955, QHD Screen....c'mon..

Damn. That was my preferred seller. While ordering, it showed processing time of 5 days, so decided to skip it and went with the Highest rated seller (Who has/d not mentioned processing time in the listing) and whose feedback was filled with positive reviews about quick shipping.

Have purchased more than 75 times from AliExpress (atleast 20 expensive items) and this has been my WORST experience for me. Everytime, Orders were shipped either next day or 2 days after and I generally order expensive items thru DHL/Fedex and have had it with me within 10 days. On the contrary, had very bad experience with ebay- both as seller & buyer- and have completely stopped using it (Lost close to $1200 while selling).
Order Update: Seller has mailed me apologising for delay and stating he will ship ' asap' but Still no commitment- (He replied after I bombarded him with messages)
@chris- Do update with the root method. Am so happy that it has been rooted as one of the reasons I tried cancelling the phone (other than obvious delay) was that you mentioning no root and someone mentioning about it not being launched in Europe

This sounds a lot like Aliexpress advertisement. I bet it's because you sell there yourself, and want people to use it. I'm glad it allegedly works fine for you, but I myself and a lot of people I know would never go near it. Regardless, this is kind of off topic stuff, not related to Honor Note 8, so I suggest we move on.
If anyone can post a root method, or free/chip bootloader unlock method - that'd be very much appreciated. And if someone car figure out a way to mod NVRAM and unlock additional LTE bands in this Kirin955 chipset - that'd be a home-run!

So it sounds like it's been a while since you've actually used AliExpress. If that's true, than I have to say that it has changed and improved a LOT from 5 or even two years ago (not perfect of course). I hate to sound like an advertisement as well though but I do want to be fair. I think you should probably try it again to see for yourself because you're missing out on a lot. But your decision.
In regards to unlocking the bootloader: A little while ago DC-unlocker had a promotion on their website because they had just released their android app on the play store (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dc.huaweibootloadercodes) and I remember seeing that there was a discount in prices for people who used the app. I took the bait, clicked the link and downloaded the app. Opening up the app on my phone I saw that there was the option to purchase a DC-unlocker account directly for $0.99. This as opposed to buying credits directly from their site. I purchased it and it worked. You guys should definitely try it.
Finally, it cost me a bit to finalize the rooting of my phone (50-100 RMB) especially because I downloaded some software tools from bbs.xxroot.com that they developed to unroot it. Also, it took a LOT of conversations (in mandarin haha) and several painful mistakes to figure out how the hell to root my phone. I am going to describe in a future post exactly what I did in detail but I'm not sure how much it will help people. I'll keep everyone posted.
cheers,
chris
P.S. please click thanks if you guys find my posts helpful! thanks.
So I'm pretty sure I'm hated at bbs.xxroot.com right now. But I succeeded....
check it out --> drive.google.com/file/d/0By2RD6aSQhsNb1NqRnFEd2VMcDA/view?usp=sharing
gonna work on trying to unlock additional LTE bands (if possible).
cheers,
chris
