Visible backlight - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My one arrived today and it's been amazing! However having just tried to use it in bed (pitch black room and brightness on lowest) I can't help but notice a steak of white light coming from the bottom right corner of the screen. Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes I got same but left lower corner and only visible when screen completely black or using deal pixel app to test the screen

Not a problem, nearly every LCD panel has some light bleed. Should be a problem if its on all corners.

O God Noooooo!!!!! I hate back light bleed !!!! Now to hunt one down without this issue.

If you hate back light bleed you better get an amoled screen. I've never seen any lcd that doesn't have some level of bleed... Some are definitely better than others though.

This thread reminds me of the g2x days lol. But ya a little bleeding is normal.

After testing it looks like it's the capacitive home button LED that's causing the streak. Is there a way to turn them off without having root access? Or is it going to have to be a return job until I get a perfect "One"
Here's a picture of it.

My one x also had light bleed from cap buttons so try this (maybe itll work on the one too):
If not rooted: hold power button until the cap buttons start flashing and then quickly release it while the buttons are off. Button lights will be off until the phone goes to sleep (they will light up again when you wake up the phone)
If rooted: download LED Control from market and turn the backlight from keys off completely

Thanks, i'll try it out tonight and see how it goes

Tried the non root method and it just turns the backlight on as soon as you release the button.
Not sure if I want to root as I may have to return it =(

No point returning them. There are lots that have this issue. It really isn't that big of a deal bud. I know it's a new phone and you want it to be perfect but getting it replaced could simply replace the issue with something worse like dead pixels or weird colours under the glass.
Think to your self... Is it really that bad?

[Q] Help! Screen is tripping out!

Ok so I ordered my Nook Color from Buy.com and got it on Monday the 31st. I rooted it using instructions located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
Everything was going great until the screen started going crazy. What happens is the screen will initially go to white on one side and then just turn off. I'll have to hit the power button to put it in sleep and then hit it again to turn the screen back on. This gets progressively worse to where the screen will only be on for 5 seconds before it shuts itself off. I've searched and I can't come up an answer. Thanks in advanced.
Have you tried cleaning your screen? The nooks screen is extremely sensitive.

Sounds like it's refurb and defective to me, that's very much not normal for the screen to "white out". I suspect you need to look into replacement, but you might want to return it to stock, which is easy to do.

Seriously. Yes I did read it. My next suggestion after he/she would have tried it would be that it is defective.

DROID3 Capacitive Button Backlights

Has anybody noticed the DROID 3 backlights on the menu and home and back buttons are a lot lazier than the search button?
Mine are pretty lazy on my new D3.
im not sure what you mean. if your talking about the lights you can control those with Keyboard Backlight Controller in the market place
The backlight is a problem with some Droid 3's. I had 2 replacements because of it. It was either bleeding through below the screen or not lit up evenly across all buttons. There were a few threads on Motorolas website about this too, so it's not a rare case.
No lazy buttons here. I have had 4 droid 3's that have uneven light or screen bleed.

My wifes is horrible, bad screen bleed on the bottom and all her softkeys either are a different brightness, or seem to be half lit. She doesn't mind but it drives me crazy. My first one had light bleed, this one is perfect

During typing
When typing with my hard keyboard at night I notice my backlight going on and off as if something is misfiring. It gets better worse between ROMs from what I can tell. Liberty is the main culprit for me, Steel Droid v4 seems like it fixes it for the most part.

Hard-to-see LED notification light

Hi. Have had this gorgeous phone for a few months now. Is it me or are the red and green LED notification lights less easy to see now?
In a dark room in the middle of the night, it is not a problem, but during the day (office and at home) I can't really see these lights at all... So I have to unlock the handset to see if I have any messages.
Anyone else?

same here but getting immune to it coz the batt the sound/music output and overall performace is class apart.bought this sleek gizmo just 3 dayzz bck simply luving it.
I agree that I find the red/orange LED a little dull, hard to see.
But the green LED is so bright and it looks so good imo. When that green LED starts flashing sometimes I just sit there looking at it :silly:
I have a kernel that flashes the capacitive buttons when I get a notification. Have a look for a new kernel

Clean the grill with a dry toothbrush small particles of dust will inevitably get stuck I'm the grill clear it out and You should notice a big diffrence in the light intensity, and also in the speakers.
yeah and make sure u use colgate to make it shine
I agree. The notification light is pretty hard to see, especially coming from a BlackBerries and then a Galaxy S3, in which the LED notification lights can be seen from just about any where.

I guess that the way to solve this problem is flash the kernel that inclubing button light notification~
Samsung and blckbery hav better and bright led notification led.....its funny tht htc had put two led lights on droid dna but both were so dull....almost invisble.......the company shud fix this...

Glad to know I am not alone in thinking this.

This seems to vary per device (possibly per rom) as other people I know with a One complain that its too bright, but for me on mine it seems (and always has done regardless of rom) very dim. In a dull room it is easy to see, but in my bright office I struggle.
Exactly, at night, I can see a faint light, but I the daytime, forget it!
One more thing I noticed, when I am charging and whilst connected to the mains, I turn the phone off, for a fee seconds the red notification light is proper bright again... Then after a few seconds it goes back to its very dim state again.
This therefore eliminates problems with the led itself and things like dust in the grill, etc.... It must be to do with the software I reckon.... Either in the system instructions or some side effect to one of the many settings in the options........ Need help please!

I used a toothbrush, maybe I need one that is firm or hard. I got a better audio from using it the the loudspeaker on the back underneath the BeatsAudio logo so very pleased with that. I can now see 1 tiny speck of light on the rear LED and 1 tiny speck of light on the front where the ear speaker is, other than that I cant get it cleaned. Any other suggestions

power button barely sticks out

Hi guys,
I just got this phone and noticed that the power button barely sticks out.
Is this normal
Yes I think it is. Because the volume buttons also barely stick out. It's part of the design I think.

I was in bestbuy just now and the HTC one on display had the power button sticking out and even clicked when pressed.
I have 2 and 1 sticks out the other one doesn't
Anyone having problems with the on button, check out this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42415067
This works great for me - I have used my on button about 4 times since I started using this app, and those were in error. I have it set up so that it unlocks the phone when I take it out of my pocket, and locks again when I put it back in. It uses proximity sensor, and doesn't seem to eat much battery.

A custom kernel feature. It allows you to swipe from the back button to the home button (left-to-right) to turn the screen on and the opposite direction to turn the screen off.

Mine is flush too but it's tactile.. Anyways i use sweep to wake anyways.. Much easier to do
You could get a TPU skin with no cutout like I did. I feel that there is no problem with the bare power button. However, the TPU skin amplifies the feedback at least 5x.
BTW: S2W uses up extra battery life. It keeps the capacitive panel on, even when sleeping.

I believe s2w doesn't use extra battery life
Mine too. I'm on my second replacement and the power button has gotten substantially worse lol. It's completely flush and there is no "click." Its more of a mushy, jammed press, it pisses me off

I've been searching and even a lot of reviews, including gizmodo mention that the buttons are too flush.
maybe its supposed to be like this? :S

Recents capacitive button brighter?

Is it just me, or is the recent apps capacitive button brighter than the back and home buttons?

Hmm it's quite noticeable when seen in low light. My OCD is saying return it, but I know I shouldn't risk it to get an even worse defective one then this small issue haha
That's how I felt about my device. My ocd was telling me to return it for certain reasons, but I felt I was gunna get a device with even worse problems. No phone is made exactly the same.
