Hi guys,
I just got this phone and noticed that the power button barely sticks out.
Is this normal
Yes I think it is. Because the volume buttons also barely stick out. It's part of the design I think.

I was in bestbuy just now and the HTC one on display had the power button sticking out and even clicked when pressed.
I have 2 and 1 sticks out the other one doesn't
Anyone having problems with the on button, check out this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42415067
This works great for me - I have used my on button about 4 times since I started using this app, and those were in error. I have it set up so that it unlocks the phone when I take it out of my pocket, and locks again when I put it back in. It uses proximity sensor, and doesn't seem to eat much battery.

A custom kernel feature. It allows you to swipe from the back button to the home button (left-to-right) to turn the screen on and the opposite direction to turn the screen off.

You could get a TPU skin with no cutout like I did. I feel that there is no problem with the bare power button. However, the TPU skin amplifies the feedback at least 5x.
BTW: S2W uses up extra battery life. It keeps the capacitive panel on, even when sleeping.

Mine too. I'm on my second replacement and the power button has gotten substantially worse lol. It's completely flush and there is no "click." Its more of a mushy, jammed press, it pisses me off

I've been searching and even a lot of reviews, including gizmodo mention that the buttons are too flush.
maybe its supposed to be like this? :S

A friend of mine just received his official N7 case from Google and promptly realized that it's made of conductive material that creates screen input if you close it with the screen turned on. Has anyone else experienced this?

I literally got my case from UPS 10 minutes after I posted this, and I can recreate the problem too. Here's another thread with some others experiencing the same thing:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...n7-case-play-store-causing-screen-freeze.html
Did you know that if I unlock my phone and put it in my pocket.... My pocket starts pushing buttons.. Its like a little gnome lives in my pocket and is trying to text Tokyo.
Tapping the power button seems to solve the problem.
I would suggest doing the same if you plan on using this case.
and here I thought this case couldn't get any worse

Thanks for your valuable input.
Your phone acts the way you explain because your pocket isn't thick enough to keep your leg from activating the screen. The cover on this case is quite thick, and it causes screen input regardless of whether your hand/finger/whatever is on the other side. You can take it completely out of the case, then touch the screen with the cover and replicate the problem. The case itself appears to be conductive - not something you really want on a touchscreen device.
I don't have the problem because I added a magnet to trigger the sleep and wake functions as I close the cover.

Hi sway40,
I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you so much for your unsolicited opinion of my post (I even clicked the little "Thanks" button!). I hope it didn't take too much of your time, considering I only asked if anyone else was seeing the problem, and not for your personal thoughts on whether or not it was a good post or subject. I also hope that you're not too upset; the last thing I want to do is make people on the Internet angry by asking what I think are legitimate questions. Going forward, before posting any accessory-related questions in the accessories forum, I'll be certain to post a separate question first, asking if it's okay for me to post my real question. Should I PM you first too?
Thanks again!

Can someone please comment on the responsiveness, travel, click-y-ness, feedback and consistency of the physical buttons?
This might seem trivial, but this is one of the reasons I have never kept an HTC phone...the buttons are so gushy/squishy, whatever you wanna call it. I like to feel it click. Apple has nailed this, so has BB with the new Z10.
Any comments? Thanks!

The HTC One has only soft capacitative buttons, so you will get the vibration feedback and probably the strength of the feedback can be adjusted.
I am speaking about the physical buttons, I.e. power and volume buttons. I am not concerned about the capacitive ones.

Ya, makes sense, but is totally disappointing. It makes it difficult to lock it without intentionally looking and pressing. I used the 8x for a brief period and had that same experience, it was never easy to quickly lock it on the way to putting it in your pocket.
How about the volume rockers? Can you find them easily without looking? e.g. when adjusting the volume in your pocket.
My one arrived today and it's been amazing! However having just tried to use it in bed (pitch black room and brightness on lowest) I can't help but notice a steak of white light coming from the bottom right corner of the screen. Does anyone else have this issue?
Yes I got same but left lower corner and only visible when screen completely black or using deal pixel app to test the screen

Not a problem, nearly every LCD panel has some light bleed. Should be a problem if its on all corners.

If you hate back light bleed you better get an amoled screen. I've never seen any lcd that doesn't have some level of bleed... Some are definitely better than others though.

After testing it looks like it's the capacitive home button LED that's causing the streak. Is there a way to turn them off without having root access? Or is it going to have to be a return job until I get a perfect "One"
Here's a picture of it.
My one x also had light bleed from cap buttons so try this (maybe itll work on the one too):
If not rooted: hold power button until the cap buttons start flashing and then quickly release it while the buttons are off. Button lights will be off until the phone goes to sleep (they will light up again when you wake up the phone)
If rooted: download LED Control from market and turn the backlight from keys off completely

Not sure if I want to root as I may have to return it =(

No point returning them. There are lots that have this issue. It really isn't that big of a deal bud. I know it's a new phone and you want it to be perfect but getting it replaced could simply replace the issue with something worse like dead pixels or weird colours under the glass.
Think to your self... Is it really that bad?

I'm forever fumbling around to find it.
I fumble and fumble, then think I must have the phone upside down and fumble some more only to realize I've now turned it up side down.
I thought I'd get used to it.
Not to mention I seem to be getting bits of pocket crap in between the button and the phone.
On my HTC EVO LTE the phone used to come on if I stooped down (I keep it in my fron jeans pocket) and I made little guards for the button to stop it.
Now think I'll have to glue on a bump on to the button or something.
It would be nice if they put a dimple or raised it slightly. So you could positively find it by feel every time.

I have same problem as OP. I have an Incipio case that has a cut out for the power/IR blaster. It also has a cut out on the bottom for the micro usb charger, which is almost the same exact size. I too have flipped the phone over several times. I may have to get the Mophie just for the simple fact that it has a raised power button.

Not sure if I understand right but you could do what I do and stop using the power button. What I do is rooted with bulletproof kernel I use the double tap the bottom of the screen to turn it on and then I can either swipe the back+home button to turn the phone off or use a widget called screen off on my desktop (usually do this since its more convenient). This works perfectly and is much easier than the akward power button

A good design everyone WILL naturally get used to. A poor design won't.
If my car pulls to the left and I can't get used to it, does that make it my fault !!! That's what your saying.
Looks like I'm not the only one having issue with it, so it is a the "Phones Fault".
Like I said a tiny dimple on the power button or similar so you can find it with frozen fingers in the dark. Would go a long way.
Small cues that help you have the phone oriented correctly would go a long way.
Weight, Texture, Dimples make the difference.
Maybe this app would help out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227516

IF your car was designed to pull to the left it wouldnt be the cars fault.
The recessed power button is a design, no fault of the phone itself.
I, and I'm sure countless others here have no issues with the power button.

I, for one, love the power button. Never once thought the button was hard to find or hard to press. I also love the tactile feel of this power button after having used a GNex, which I hated the power button placement - too easy to press accidentally.
Guys, I find the power button a bit too small to my liking...it feels fragile too
Since we don't have the home button, the only way to wake the phone up is the power button.
I feel that the power button is gonna give up on us sooner or later.
If only there's a mod to let us wake the phone up using other buttons or double tapping the screen
Any ideas?

I think there are some mods under the Xposed Framework to allow you to use the volume buttons to wake too.
** EDIT **
Not sure if this works but you could try it, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329179
yeah, this is one of my biggest heartbreaks with this device
who complained about the Z's button size??? i thought it was perfect and then they reduced it so much with the Z1... feels like an afterthought now when the button on the Z was all the buzz
It is a Button, its sole purpose is being pushed!
And the visible size does not have anything to do with size of the mechanical button underneath the cover. It could even be the same mechanical switch used in the Z just with a smaller cover on top.
I dont think of this button as "flimzy" at all. I read some reviews that said it felt quite poor. Mine feels sturdy and quite nice actually. It stands up to the quality feel of the entire phone.
hope it helps.
can recommend an app that don't need root. its called wave-to-wake, most times i go to pick up and use my phone it wakes up on its own without touching any buttons, hope it helps.
