[Q] Does the One have HTC LinkifyDispatcher/App Assocations? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the One have HTC LinkifyDispatcher/App Assocations? Or does it have the standard Android URL handling? I'd expect it to have standard URL handling since Apple/HTC signed the cross licensing deal.

Bueller..... Bueller.....
Someone has to have this phone.... anyone with this phone, can you check this out? In the settings menu, is there an "App Associations" option?

very interested to know as well.. i know the lawsuit was settled and what not, but did they actually take this stuff out of the OS?

From some very careful watching of video reviews on youtube, I didn't see a top level settings menu item for "App Associations", but that doesn't mean it works like it should. With the phones out in the wild, I'd like to have someone with the phone chime in on this. Click a play store or youtube link in an email and see if the respective apps open.

Right, I just wanted confirmation. It'd sure be nice if they'd roll out official patches to revert tje behavipr on the affected phones. I know there are ways to remove it, but most people are not able to do that.

Another working apk that is great

In case anyone is a member of AppPla***.net (not sure if I can post the name here) Their apk works fine on the NC and you can download just like you can off the Android Market. Not sure why Android Market wont work on the NC, but this works fine. I have gotten 100's of apks there on my NC.
yes, it works fine.
for those opposed to stealing, just remember all the apps with a line through the price are pirated.
Has anyone verified is there were/are any malicious apps on that site/program.. I've been told some of the permissions on some of the apps were "questionable."

Anything illegal has a very large chance of causing damage. Use at your own risk. Best to play it safe and stay away. I just wanted to let people know that the apk did in fact work. Maybe it will help someone create the real Market apk.

Also confirmed working. I'm one of those try it,and if I like it, buy it guys so I think this app works out well for honest guys like myself. I'm not into wasting money (not even a little bit), but I will support quality products so this is right up my alley.

I think it's best we close this just now, before this moves into a full-blown warez discussion. Installing paid apps without paying them is not something this forum condones, nor tolerates the discussion of.
There is progress in using the proper Android market on the device.

How to rate and comment on apps from within there honeycomb market?

can't figure this out, Iam quite annoyed. If you can do it on a phone you should be able to do it on a tablet.
If I go to the web based market I can do it, but to hell with that, why should I need to? What an inconvenience.

I've noticed this too. There was one app that I was lookoing at once and it actually had little tabs at the top for comments, ratings and ect. Its weird it isn't for all of them.

My first pet peeve. What can I say, even Google is not immune to hiring morons.
But I suspect it is because they don't want a bunch of negative reviews on apps that are not designed for the tablet yet. However, it should still be available for the tablet features apps.
BTW, it's so annoying that the Facebook widget doesn't work on Honeycomb and neither does Pandora. Jeez.
Yeah the devs are seriously slacking at Facebook
Trillian has a ton of annoyances I'd love to comment on yet can't, so yeah it's pretty annoying.

Since honeycomb ecosystem is not yet evolved, they make it harder for zoom users to post bad comments and bad ratings. They did it on purpose. They were smart to do this in a sence. But it makes me hate their guts a bit.

this is exactly the reason why. i suspect it will soon once they have a way of marking apps which are honeycomb optimized - and then you can comment on those apps

I wouldn't say that... If developers want to go with the times, they can't simply ignore honeycomb. I'm sure they are thinking about it alright. I agree it's annoying... but just give it some time.

[Q] Amazon AppStore wrong scale?

I did a search and couldn't find anything about this.
This drives me crazy. The Amazon AppStore has such tiny text and pictures, almost totally unusable without some reading glasses on. Ive compared what it looks like on the Note to the Galaxy Nexus (which has a very similar resolution) and it's displayed correctly on the latter.
Any tips or tricks to get it to look right? Is it just a bug with the app? Should I file a bug report to Amazon?
What it looks like compared to on the nexus:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
It's not really a bug per-say. Since the Galaxy Note has the same resolution as most tablets Amazon's app treats it as such. So it is technically displaying properly but since we have a 5.3 inch screen and not a 7-10in like on most android tablets we have to kinda squint our eyes. You could try reporting it to Amazon but I'm not sure if it will yield to anything.

wtf are you talking about? amazons own kindle fire is 1024x600 vs 1280x720 on the galaxy nexus and i just showed you in a picture that it renders fine on the nexus. if the nexus is a special case then the note should also be a special case. you cannot go by resolution to determine the screen size. and this is the only app ive run into with this problem.

If you want people to help you, you really shouldn't be rude to people - especially those who aren't being rude to you. You don't have to agree with his answer, but being a jerk about it simply makes others not want to help you.
Programs have no idea how big your screen size is. They do, however, know your screen resolution. It is not unreasonable for programs to say, 'okay, you have this many pixels, I'm going to maximize use of them.'.
Now, as you noted, there is the issue where you can have an extremely high density display (imagine this on a 300+ dpi retina display). And of course, eyesight varies. Making 'phone exceptions' as you implied it's doing for the Nexus is possible but long term wise that's a bad way to go. You'd have to arbitrarily decide what people want for that device.
What they should do, like all programs should do, is have a 'font size' type of setting, so people like me can live happily the way it is now, and people like you can set it to the 'phone layout' that you want.
tl;dr: Log a enhancement request with Amazon.

Yeah the text is small. So what? Be happy us in the USA even have access to it. The free app a day is a great benefit.
When the ATT Note launches and its more common Amazon will get around to fixing it.

I think they were disagreeing with you, but not trying to be 'telling you off'. That's my opinion, however. We're going to have to agree to disagree on this.
You might be interested in knowing that earlier versions of the Amazon appstore used the 'phone interface' on the Galaxy note. If I recall, it was only fairly recently that an appstore update changed the store to 'tablet mode' on the Note.
I remember thinking 'oh.... wow. hmm' when it happened. I flirted e-mailing them a letter of protest, but I got used to it.

Why not? Other apps do - Netflix on the Note (as has been mentioned later), for example renders pretty much like my Galaxy Tab 10.1 - very different to the same app on my phone, and I think it is far better.
Whilst I appreciate the small scale of the Amazon AppStore may be a problem for some, personally I much prefer it. If they suddenly changed tomorrow to use the "phone" interface from the Nexus, I would be considering that to be an "issue", though I fully appreciate that the smaller size would definitely be a real problem for someone with less than perfect vision.
Personally, I think that GallardosEggrollShop was 100% correct when he said it was related to the resolution of the Note. The fact that it looks different on the Nexus is because they made a specific exception for the Nexus, but that doesn't change the general rule.

Good point here - the Note has not be launched in the US, unlike the Nexus, so why would Amazon specifically code an exception for the Note, when the AppStore is not supposed to be available outside the US?
However, even when the AT&T Note is launched, it possibly won't be fixed because the AT&T device will likely identify itself differently to the regular international Note.
Regards,
Dave
I just installed the midnote ice cream sandwich rom (which is quite usable as a daily driver), and interestingly the appstore has revered back to the 'phone' interface.
I have kind of mixed feelings about this.
As I said in earlier posts, it would be nice to have the option of selecting.

Can't believe we were anxiously awaiting this..

Android 4.2 doesn't even seem well thought out, let alone designed. Is Google playing the Apple game, tying us into their universe and making us take whatever the deliver?
Do they even care how many apps won't work or have to have multiple purchases to support their multi-user "security"? Should have just left the multi-user thing to 3rd party devs. They fail on this, IMO.

Google doesn't care.. Remember when 4.1.1 broke a bunch of paid apps by sticking them in the asec folder which wasn't mounted at startup? So since it wasn't mounted Android never saw the apps during boot and paid keyboards and widgets disappeared after a reboot. MONTHS went by before it was addressed. Meanwhile developers of those paid apps had angry customers and money lost because of Google
This will be the same song and dance.. Google is getting very sloppy with development and communication with developers pre-release seems to not exist.
I love it.

I suppose YMMV, but I love 4.2. Smoother than 4.1, and nice features. The only thing that really seems half-assed is the multiuser support.
What is your problem with multi-user? For me and my daughter it is working great - could not be better.
I did add my account to her user ID Play store so she could see the apps we own and install the link.
Performance is good - all our preferences and accounts are separated - and I really can't think of any other features I would want.

I haven't played with multi-user yet, can you add the account just for the play store and not have someone access the gmail account associated with it?
That's my gripe, I want to be able to for ex, have my nephew play with my tablet and all the games etc, but don't want him to access to my gmail etc. I thought this was perfect for that but then read about the app issue. Also, I assume there is no type of limited user, in that a secondary account can still uninstall apps, but at least they can't delete files from the other users home dir.
Yes - my account is just added to my daughter's play store. Open play store and look at add account option.
Works perfectly to give her access to the apps we share.
NO shared Gmail.
Forgot something important:
When you add a second account to play store, you are given a bunch of items you can synch, like contacts.

Stick mount wasn't a feature of 4.1. It was hacked in which is why you had to be rooted and use an app. You'll get USB support again. Multiuser support screwed with the storage. That's all.
New tweaks are a little rough around the edges but will be smoothed out soon enough. Give it time, damn guys. I personally think its no better or worse then 4.1.2. We just have a few new toys now.

Sure, I kinda miss the bells & whistles I had on Codename Android, and I'll definitely check out any forthcoming 4.2 updates, but scrosler's stock, rooted, deodexed ROM is far & away the smoothest, quickest ROM I've used on any Android device. Stock kernel, no tweaks, plain vanilla is for me for now. Way better Google experience. OK, I sideloaded the AOSP browser for Flash, but that's it. Chrome is much more responsive on 4.2 than 4.1.2 - Everything is noticeably quicker - I even detect better wireless response. Your results may vary, but I'm not going back!

Well, I do belive that you are right. I also feared (and expected, to tell the truth) that something EXACTLY like this would happen. I tried NOT to update the system, but why the hell did they keep forcing it when we obvoiusly do not want it? And probably, they must have known that it will broke a lot of things...
Just to explain: for me, there was a message with three buttons: upgrade, more info (which leads to seme text and bigger "upgrade" button and "later", but that "later" means only "ask at next screen unlock" which made the tablet realy hard to use. So, what choice have I had?

Developers: any links to best practices for Gear development?

Okay, new to this. Started up a gear yesterday and I'm impressed. Now I want to go further... (already bored lol). Any links to docs on how to develop for this thing. I already know that this it is standard Android and that one can write standalone apps the usual way for this thing. What I'm interested in is how the communication model works with companion apps on the phone. I suspect it will be done by running services on the phone, but how can one interact with those services via a Bluetooth connection. Or is it event driven?
I'm really surprised that Samsung hasn't publiced anything about this on their site? What? Don't they like developers to jump on the bandwagon?
Best advice is to read this forum you will learn all there is to know

So you think they work with special APIs? Or just the standard APIs? I saw there were already some interesting apps on the Samsung market like for example Zine. It has a controller architecture. On the Gear side you get headlines pushed and by tapping on a headline the Zine app is opened with the corresponding article. Can this can be done with standard Android APIs or do we need a special APIs for that. I can imagine that this can be done with the standard event model.

"We need to make sure we're ready to go big."
Thats a quote from the article, they will be released. Although not just yet..
they never said they will release the sdk to the public, did they? so please stop making false claims.
samsung might as well decide that they are not ready to go big with this generation (lack of wifi, poor software etc). what then?

It's definitely a remarkable manoeuvre. Another remarkable thing is that everything is kept in the Samsung app store. It's not a secret that Samsung has big ambitions. Maybe they are trying to build their own ecosystem in the Android ecosystem. Maybe they gonna lock the APIs in some kind of Samsung Appstore service. Meh .. let's hope Google comes up with a watch soon and an addition to the Android framework for smart watches.
I recently tried to release an app to the Samsung store specifically for the gear but it was rejected for "other" reasons...
Seems like the public are just unknowing beta testers of a half-arsed device by Samsung.

Really? What did you try to submit? A simple standalone app that only runs on the gear?

Tried to release my Calculator app that only runs on the Gear. I've since emailed back asking what "other" reasons they are talking about.
Just speculation on my part --
I have a feeling that Samsung is simply testing waters with this initial release of Gear. They are very serious about it, but they also know that it's not entirely polished product. They wanted to be first to market.
I think the 2rev of Gear might have some radical changes. They could probably build it on top of Kitkat (optimized for low memory devices?) and some new low energy communication protocols. Probably they will then open the APIs for all devs. Maybe we will also see some of the curved screen goodness!
But it's for sure they will never make the Gear compatible with all Android by default -- doesn't make a good business sense. Google will obviously try to make their smartwatch compatible with all Android, and that makes perfect business sense for google.

are you the guy who made it? nice. i sideloaded it into my Gear. works flawlessly, althought I would like to see some colored theme like numbers in one color, functions in other. 5 stars from me! super lite too!
Thanks...The coloured buttons are on the way...
