I checked out some threads but i wasn't able to find anything. I had a windows machine and was wire tethering just fine with my rooted htc hero but now i have a mac and i am wondering if there is anyway to wire tether to my mac as well? I have wireless tether for root users on my phone version 1.60 i could just use that but when i enable wi-fi encryption it still is an unsecured wireless network when i try and connect to it, i am not sure what to do? Any help would be great.
I know PDA net free works good on macs my brother has been using it on his older MacBook for a couple of months now just fine

Also u could Google USB tether for root users and download the one from Google.code and that works really good as well

Ok thanks ill try those out.
Has anyone found a functional wireless tethering method? Or do any of the roms listed in the development section have tethering enabeled? Ive tried wifi tether several different versions with every setting combination and cant get it to work. Shows devices connected but no internet connection

Google's WiFi Tether app is a must-get:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Set the Device Profile in settings to LG Optimus S
I leave my Setup Method as 'Auto' and have no problems tethering a number of devices. Many people choose to set theirs to Softap. IMO I've seen no difference between the two so try both and choose which one you think works best for you.
Thanks joey but ive tried that setup and it will show connected but no actual internet. The main device im trying to connect is a wii.

I don't have a wii to test, but I've used the tether for rooted users to connect my computer and Kindle Fire with no issues whatsoever.

My Wireless Tether app was doing that same thing. I think Verizon does something on their end to block it.
You can use "Open Garden" from the Play store. It works. Used it this weekend.

Open garden works well. The only problem i could see was if the Wii doesn't like ad-hoc networks as tje tether apps I have seen are all Ad-hoc

Ill give open garden a try tonight and see if its wii friendly

Yeah, i knew this. Trying to do it using usb. some of the other samsung phones can do this.
What this would be good for.
1) no wifi router
2) connect phone using usb to pc
3) then using the internet from your pc
4) phone becomes wifi hotspot and wont affect data usage
5) use ipad or tablet to connect to phone and surf.
Get my drift?

Yes I get you, been doing the same thing on HTC phones
However, if you have a laptop with Windows 7, you don't need a wifi router
I use that method and turn my laptop to a wifi router and connect both my phone and tablet to it's network

Apologies, my mistake, read it fast
However, did you try reverse tether? see it here

I really like this idea. If anyone tries this please let us know if it works on the Note and If phone calls/sms are uninhibited during reverse tether.
Hi guys was wondering if its possibal to make my pc a hotspot for my nexus 7. Will this help with speeds/signal on my N7 as i will be in the same room?, i followed a guide i found on the internetabout setting up a ad hoc hotspot but my N7 cant detect it is there apps i need for this or something i need to do on my N7? cheers.

No
No i havent, i will give it a go and see what happens, thanks alot
Let me know how it goes

Just a little confussed on this part
Step 3: To create a hotspot, type "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=yournetworkname key=yournetworkpassword," and hit Enter on your keyboard. Remember, "ssid" refers to the WiFi hotspot's name while "key" is said network's password. You can also use the aforementioned command to change the hotspot's name and password.
This mean i have to enter my routers SSID and Key or make my own that i will use to connect on my nexus.
never mind got it working, i forgot to start it lol, thanks alot i can now connect to my pc :good:
Lol good

Nexus 7 picks it up fine etc but only issue is when i try to connect it stays at obtaining IP address.
Back when I did it, it would take a little while to connect. Try turning the Wifi on the n7 on and off a few times
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I577 using xda premium
Nope no luck, looking at the connection i set up it says no network access in the status, i wonder if thats why or i have to use static ip. Also mypc is on a wireless adapter so not sure if i have to be on ethernet or not
I used the adapter too. Maybe it doesn't support WiFi sharing

try this..........works great>>>>> http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
Can't get this to work and its mildly annoying. I can adb sideload ROMS and whatnot but need to boot into windows to get any real file transfers done.
Strange this is the only phone (tried lg g2, and gal nex) that I have an issue with.
in b4 no replies.
I sympathize with you. Specific to your question I have no answer. Go to the Android website and it talks about Windows and Mac. No Linux.
BUT, I use wifi file transfer pro.... From play store. And also AirDroid. Gets it done through wifi on common network. And it's very fast for me. Hope that helps.

Ugh... I'll see if I can hack it together.
I was hoping a developer would stop by to enlighten me.
I don't have WiFi for the desktop it's always plugged in.

no dev here but i dual boot linux and win7 and i would recommend Google android MTP on linux and read and see what everyone says. i will be booting back into linux tomorrow and i will see what you need to do my self, but right now i have some clients idevices to work on and iTunes and most of my modding software is windows only
Doesn't have to be actually through wireless wifi to work. One of my computers is directly connected to the router. But if no router is used at all then it would not be an option for you

I just got a Moto X and I'm also running Ubuntu 13.10 on a desktop. When I get home this evening I will test this out and see if I can get it to work in any way. I haven't been on Ubuntu recently since I've been doing the rooting process through Windows.
just installed ubuntu gnome's new lts and its working out of the box
