[SIZE=+3]Frequently Asked Questions[/SIZE]
[SIZE=+2]HTC One (M7)[/SIZE]
[SIZE=+1]This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=+1]Q1: What's the difference between "Development" and "Original Development"?[/SIZE]
Here are the rough guidelines as to what should be placed in "Original Development":
*Official release of highly original and upstream custom ROMs (built from the ground up with significant original development within them).
*Official releases/development of such original ROMs, perhaps posted by the maintainer or their nominated person.
*A significant "first" in development for a device. This is something which took considerable time/effort and is generally accepted by developers to be non-trivial.
*Kernels which are built with beneficial changes that are not simply pulled from other kernels already available.
*Tools and utilities with a clear purpose, and which are well-made, and useful to users. They should have an element of originality, either in purpose or through significant improvement in the means of operation.
*Significant port of a ROM from one device to another, giving enhanced features or functionality to the users of the target device.
All other development work goes into "Android Development".
[SIZE=+1]Q2: How do I root my phone?[/SIZE]
There are a few different ways you can root your phone. Below are a few threads to help you successfully root your One;
Superboot - Unfortunately, this method will only work if you're lucky enough to have S-Off. This is simply a boot.img that when booted, will root your device once you boot up.
All-In-One Toolkit - If you're looking to root your device the easy way, use this toolkit.
*NOTE* I'll never recommend using a toolkit to root your device because if you don't know how to root your phone manually, you shouldn't be rooting your phone.
Root/Unlock/Recovery/Flashing Custom ROMs - This is the preferred way to root your phone because it actually requires you to read and do the work yourself. Follow the steps exactly as instructed and you'll be rooted and all ready for a custom ROM.
[HOWTO] Unlock, Flash the Recovery and Rooting your HTC One + Fastboot guide - Here is another great guide which will help you to successfully unlock your bootloader, flash a recovery and root your One.
*NOTE* Always be sure to double check everything you read and follow the instructions carefully.
[SIZE=+1]Q3: How can I enter bootloader mode & recovery mode?[/SIZE]
To enter bootloader mode make sure your phone is turned off. Turn it back on while holding the 'volume down' button and you will successfully enter bootloader mode.
*NOTE* Before you enter bootloader mode your bootloader must be unlocked. Unlock your bootloader by following the first part of this thread.
To enter recovery mode, you will need to enter the bootloader (as detailed above) then use the 'volume down' button to navigate to 'RECOVERY'. Press the power button to confirm your choice. You'll now be booted into your custom recovery.
[SIZE=+1]Q4: What is the best ROM/kernel/modem?[/SIZE]
Honestly, there is no "best". It's all based on personal choice. For example; I may like heavily customizing my ROMs whereas you may like it to look at basic as possible. The best thing you can do is to just test out different ROMs/kernels/modems and see which you prefer.
[SIZE=+1]Q5: I hear a lot about ADB. What is it?[/SIZE]
Find out everything you need to know by reading the following thread - ADB Workshop and Guide for everyone.
[SIZE=+1]Q6: Am I required to backup my ROM before flashing anything else?[/SIZE]
No you're not, but it is definitely a good idea, especially when flashing a ROM with an updated base, because if you don't do a backup and then something goes wrong, it means that you'll lose all your apps, data etc. It just saves a lot of hassle.
[SIZE=+1]Q7: Can I install an OTA with a custom recovery or if I have a custom ROM/kernel?[/SIZE]
No, you can't. Don't try installing an OTA if you're using CWM, TWRP or Philz as it won't work. It will only install via the stock recovery.
You'll also need to make sure that you're on the stock ROM and stock kernel.
For a more detailed explanation of how to receive an OTA, what an OTA updater-script does and what will interfere with OTA's, check out the following post by nkk71 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52894276&postcount=9
[SIZE=+1]Q8: Does this phone have good battery life?[/SIZE]
It's impossible to give you a perfect answer because there are so many different aspects which can affect battery life. We all have different apps installed, use our phones for different amounts of time, have different ROMs and kernels installed etc. so we will all experience different results regarding battery life.
Take a look at the Battery Stats Thread to see the usage & average battery life of other forum members.
[SIZE=+1]Q9: This phone is amazing and I want to tell others how good it is.[/SIZE]
Woah! Wait a moment. DON'T create a new thread to tell us what you think of the One. Instead, you can post your review in the following thread - Centralization Review of the HTC One
[SIZE=+1]Q10: My camera has a purple tint in low light. How do I fix this?[/SIZE]
This is a known hardware defect. Your best option is to contact your local HTC customer service and get a replacement/repair order.
According to Uzephi's post here, HTC North America are accepting camera warranty claims even if your phone's out of its warranty period. I'm not sure if this is the case globally though so you'll need to check that for yourself when contacting HTC.
[SIZE=+1]Q11: I'm not sure whether to get the HTC One/what other phones compare to the One?[/SIZE]
The only person who can make you want the device is you. If you're not sure whether to get this phone, go to your local phone shop which has stock and have a test run of it for yourself. This will give you a good feel as to whether you'll like the One or not.
One thing to remember, if you're asking in this M8 forum, is that you're likely to get biased results. After all, the members you're asking already most likely either have the M7 or will be getting it.
If you're not sure what device to get and want to compare between your choices, please feel free to use the following thread - Device Suggestion Thread
[SIZE=+1]Q12: When will the One be S-Off?[/SIZE]
The One is now S-Off. Check out the 2 following threads to find out how to make your device S-Off - S-Off by revone & S-Off by Moonshine.
The following are a couple of guides which will help you S-Off your device if you're having some issues - [GUIDE] REVONE, MOONSHINE & RUMRUNNER Pre-S-OFF Steps.... READ FIRST , [GUIDE] Rumrunner S-Off for HTC One M7 International & [Guide] Firewater S-Off
[SIZE=+1]Q13: I have a custom recovery installed but I can't boot into it.[/SIZE]
Use the command - fastboot erase cache.
You should now be able to boot into recovery.
[SIZE=+1]Q14: I'm getting bad audio quality via Bluetooth connections. How can I fix it?[/SIZE]
You can sort this out by turning off your WiFi, connecting to the Bluetooth device again and then - if needed - turn WiFi back on again.
[SIZE=+1]Q15: I don't like Blinkfeed. Can I get rid of it?[/SIZE]
Yes you can.
Thanks to Onepagebook, we can now remove BlinkFeed by replacing the default prism.apk with a modified version which can be found in his thread here. For installation instructions and all relevant information, check his thread out and then sit back and enjoy not seeing BlinkFeed anymore
As you'll be delving into the /system folder you'll need root access for the above method.
For those of you who aren't rooted, check out the following workarounds -
The only way to get rid of it, at the moment, is to install a custom launcher such as Apex or Nova.
One thing you can do, however, is to change Blinkfeed to a different screen so that it's out of the way and you won't have to see it as soon as you hit the Home button.
To do this;
*On the Blinkfeed screen, click the 3 dot menu button and click Customizer home screen.
*Long press on one of the other screens and drag it to where it says Set As Home.
It's as simple as that!
*NEW* If you're using one of the newer updates (Sense 5.5+), you can now natively disable BlinkFeed.
To do so, swipe right from BlinkFeed so that you reach the "traditional" Android homescreen. Long press on the screen and you'll see all the screens at the top. Just above those screens is the option "BlinkFeed On". Clicking that will disable BlinkFeed from your device. To enable it, follow the same instructions.
[SIZE=+1]Q16: I have a T-Mobile/AT&T HTC One. Can I flash the ROMs in this forum?[/SIZE]
Yes you can. Any ROM from T-Mobile, AT&T and International One forums can be flashed across either of those variants.
As the Sprint variant is a CDMA device, ROMs from these other forums may not work. Please read the following thread to see if certain ROMs will be compatible or not - Tons of compatible ROMs over in International HTC One Forum. Please see the HTC One Sprint FAQ and [Guide]Sprint users that flash GSM roms on their CDMA devices for more information regarding the Sprint variant.
[SIZE=+1]Q17: AROMA installer has crashed/I can't reboot after AROMA crashed. How can I fix it?[/SIZE]
This is not a problem with the ROM you're trying to flash. It's an AROMA problem but luckily there are ways around it so you can get back to happy flashing
Reboot, reflash and instead of using the touchscreen use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select an option.
If you're not able to reboot your phone, these solutions should help you do so.
1) Make sure you've held the power button/power button + volume down for around 15-20 seconds and it should replicate a battery pull and reboot your phone.
2) Connect your phone to a PC. Then type the following command into the command windows where ADB is installed - adb reboot recovery
3) Use hasoon2000's All-In-One Toolkit to force flash your recovery (either CWM or TWRP) and it removes the crash.
4) If none of these have worked then, unfortunately, you'll simply need to wait until your battery has ran out and reflash again.
5) Another method which has worked for some people (I've personally not tested it as I've not been in that situation), is holding their phone under a bright light and then holding the power button. It should work but if it doesn't, refer to 4).
[SIZE=+1]Q18: How can I change the shortcuts on my lockscreen?[/SIZE]
It's actually really simple. All you have to do is drag an app icon from your app drawer to your dock (either side of the app drawer icon) and then lock your screen to see that it has also been changed there aswell.

Hi everyone, this will be the official FAQ for the HTC One (M7), thanks to KidCarter93 for putting it together for us.
Alright, there are a couple rules for this FAQ.
As tempting as it may be, please DO NOT post "Thank you" posts are other posts of the like.
DO NOT post in this FAQ unless it will add to or improve the FAQ over all.
DO NOT post questions directly in this thread. A FAQ is not the proper place for that.
All questions should still be posted in the Q&A section, after you have searched for an answer yourself first.
Thats it! Enjoy the FAQ
'If recovery does't boot,
Code:
fastboot erase cache
' : too many people ask this pretty much everyday
there is one question that is asked pretty frequently. It deals with (apparently) poor quality of bluetooth audio connections. In 99% of the cases, the problem can be solved by turning off WiFI, connecting to the Bluetooth-Device and - if needed - turning on WiFi again. Problem should be solved when a new official ROM > 1.28.401.7 is relased.
Updated the FAQ with Questions 10-12
I would also mention in Q12 that you can move Blinkfeed to a different home screen so that it's not the default screen when you hit the Home button.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've just added it
Sent from my HTC One via XDA Premium
I've updated the FAQ with Q1 and therefore moved all other questions down the list. Although the question isn't device specific, it still gets asked enough in this forum to warrant me adding it to the FAQ
Added a rooting guide by philos64 to Q2 and also added Q14
Added Q15 about AROMA crashes and not being able to reboot after an AROMA crash
I see no entry that explains how to change the shortcuts on the Sense 5.0 lockscreen, not being familiar with Sense myself, I searched online for a while before I worked it out...
It might be useful to have it listed here for people like me who haven't owned an HTC for a while (the original Desire was my last HTC and I ditched Sense within 2 days of getting it). For the record, it's literally as simple as editing the toolbar shortcuts each side of the app drawer icon on the default launcher.
I've updated Q10 to include links to the S-Off threads and also added Q16 to the FAQ
SGS2 FAQ | HTC One FAQ
I've just updated Q13 to include the method to remove BlinkFeed from your device
I've made an addition to Q14 by adding the following guide for more information - [Guide]Sprint users that flash GSM roms on their CDMA devices

Okay everyone, this thread is now opened again so that you can post any possible additions/improvements to this FAQ.
If you don't have an addition/improvement for this FAQ, then DON'T POST IN HERE! If you do, your post will be deleted on sight.
If you have a question, either ask in the Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum by creating your own thread OR ask in the Help Thread which is also stickied in this section. Only ask your question after you've already searched for the answer yourself though.
If any questions or irrelevant posts get made in this thread, just ignore them. I will clean them up when I see them. Replying to such posts won't help the situation in the slightest.
This IS NOT a help thread. This is simply an FAQ so NO questions should be being asked or answered in here.
Cheers,
- KidCarter93

I've just updated Q10 to include a couple of S-Off guides & Q15 to include the method of holing your phone under a bright light.
Apologies for the slow updates as these should've been added a long time ago.
I'll keep on track with the FAQ this time around
[TIP]
How to use adb and fastboot (natively) on Mac OS X:
-download the most recent adt bundle for mac. (from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html )
-extract the archive, and find the files adb and fastboot (they should be in the "platform-tools" folder)
From here you can use it from the command prompt eg. "./adb devices"
BUT..
If you want to have the fastboot and the adb command ready from each and every folder (native), do the following:
-in finder press [shift-command-G]
-fill in: /usr/bin/
-copy and paste or move both adb and fastboot into /usr/bin/. (mac password required)
-open terminal in that folder, "chmod 755 adb" (do this also for fastboot)
Now you can open any folder and open a terminal in that folder and have your commands ready (without using ./), you can use it just like ls, cd, etc..
Bonus Tip (source http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20110729034827358):
"You can enable a Service in the Keyboard Shortcuts System Preferences to let you open a terminal window directly to a selected folder.
Go to System Preferences » Keyboard » Keyboard Shortcuts » Services » Files and Folders » New Terminal at Folder. Or New Terminal Tab at Folder, if you want. You can create a keyboard shortcut here, too, if you're in to that kind of thing.
Right-click on any folder and the item appears in the bottom section of the contextual menu (or use your new keyboard shortcut)."
This is extra handy when you downloaded a zip, Rom or whatever you want to sideload onto your device, just open the terminal in that folder and "adb push localfile.zip"(just ake sure you've enabled adb on your device.. ).

Hi
newb here!
i have FRG33 build on my phone, and some time ago an OTA update came out that i couldn't install (i get "failed to verify whole-file signature" "signature verification failed" errors). i'm guessing the update is the 2.2.1 release - so how can i install it? i figure there's something i can drop on the sd card and install from there but i don't know what to search for or why this error happens at all (and google has been exceedingly unhelpful)
any help?
thanks!
Is your phone completely stock? Unrooted, stock recovery, stock rom...?
erm.. how can i tell? <,<
i bought it from a friend
i'm pretty sure it's at least rooted though, whatever that means (sudo-like access to phone i guess?) since i have an app called superuser and i downloaded lamppu (led flash as flashlight) which apparently needs root access to work (and it works)
if you need me to paste certain things from settings/options, i can do that

Your phone has an unlocked bootloader if there is a padlock symbol on the first screen when you boot up (the one with the static x).
You can see what recovery is on the phone if you press and hold the volume down button while powering the phone on. This will take you to the Fastboot screen, and you will use the volume down button again to scroll down and select "Recovery" and then press the power button. That will either get you into the stock Android recovery (which will pretty much just be a /!\ symbol) or a custom recovery (which should have a nice text-based menu with options and such).
You can find out information about your ROM by going to Settings --> About phone, and scrolling down the bottom. If you would, post the various version numbers and settings and such.
If you are running another other than the stock recovery and a stock ROM, no OTA update will install for you.
aha, good stuff
here's what i got:
unlocked padlock symbol on boot
my recovery menu is "clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.7"
android ver:
2.2
baseband version:
32.36.00.28U_4.04.00.12_7
kernel:
2.6.32.9-27237-gbe746fb
[email protected] #1
build#
FRG33
so presumably no OTA updates
how do i get my updates then? (and stop the "you have an update, update now!" pop-up which pops up even during video playback.. i mean, really?)
If you want to get the automatic updates, you'll have to revert back to a stock ROM and a stock recovery. There should be instructions for that in one of the stickied threads.
well, i assume there's a way to update manually as well?
so i guess my question is
a) how do i know what's this OTA update (i.e. where i can find a link for it)
b) how do i install it manually?
and/or i guess more generally -- is there a general intro tutorial to tinkering with android phones that also explains terminology etc (for instance, you said i need a stock ROM, but from http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Nexus_One/Roms, FRG33 is a stock ROM, so am i misunderstanding terminology here? i.e. difference between ROM & build?)
thanks btw, you've been really helpful
Answer: SEARCH.
There must be at least 100 threads on this very topic. To update, you're either going to have to flash a new rom, or revert back to the original shipping rom. Search or read the wiki on how to do either.
Or disable signature checking on CW recovery and OTA updates will install fine.

i've tried searching but it's a little difficult when i don't know any related terminology (hence the request for an intro guide of sorts). it's not like i'm posting here without doing nothing else, but google queries like site:xda-developers.com nexus one ota error frg33 for example didn't yield much. i did find a how-to-get-back-to-stock tutorial here but i am still looking for a tutorial to understand that tutorial as i have no experience with adb or fastboot, etc. (not to mention its last updated date is a year ago (although last edited date is fairly recent.. but i'm still wary) i'm learning though.

is there any risk to doing this? if not, this seems to be the simplest option so far, but doesn't a failed signature check usually signal an incompatibility/corruption?
thanks again for your help guys!
The reason it failed the check is because custom recoveries use test keys, and OTA updates use release keys. It's quite safe
If you poke around a little bit, you'll find stickies referencing you to the NexusOne wiki. The following are two guides on adb listed there:

Developer Options are initially hidden from the user on a clean installation. Go to Settings -> About Phone. Scroll down to "Build number" and tap 7 to 8 times to enable Developer Options. Developer Options should now be accessible in Settings.[SIZE=+1]Q12: I'm running XXX ROM and the developer asked for a logcat. What do I do?[/SIZE]
This will get a bootup log from the device. This requires the use of a PC as well as ADB. Get ADB by installing the Android SDK, or download Minimal ADB with fastboot ( for Windows only ). This also assumes that LG's USB drivers have been previously installed.
Power off device
Open a command prompt in the folder where you extracted the Minimal ADB contents to or where your copy of ADB.exe lives on your filesystem
Type:
Code:
adb -d logcat > logcat.log
and press Enter. You will see "*** waiting for device ***" . "logcat.log" can be any unique name you prefer.
Attach USB cable to PC and Power on device
As soon as you notice life in the device or the LG logo appears attach USB cable to device. The command prompt window will appear to hang. Don't worry. About half way thru the bootanimation the command prompt will return normally. You can then find the logcat in the same folder as ADB.exe.
[SIZE=+1]Q13: I'm running XXX ROM and the developer asked for a dmesg. What do I do?[/SIZE]
This requires the use of a PC and the ADB executable binary. See Q #12 for a link for Minimal ADB for Windows if you don't have ADB installed on your PC.
Open a command prompt window where the ADB binary lives.
Type:
Code:
adb shell su -c dmesg > dmesg.log
and press Enter. "dmesg.log" should be any unique filename of your choosing. You will now find the dmesg log in the same folder as the ADB binary.
[SIZE=+1]Q14: I've flashed a custom recovery but what are the key combos to get there?[/SIZE]
NOTE: This is also how to perform a factory reset if you don't have a custom recovery installed
Power off the device
Press and hold Power + Volume down
When the LG logo appears on the screen, quickly release the Power button, still holding the Volume down button, and press and hold Power again until the "Factory Reset" screen appears. Don't worry, this won't reset the device.
Use the volume keys to navigate up and down and Power to select. Scroll down and select "Yes" and repeat once more. It may take up to 10 seconds for the device to boot to recovery.

This isn't the correct place to ask this question as this is supposed to be a reference thread only.
However, since it's been asked and I'm here, LOL, I use GravityBox [ KK ] for everything you just mentioned. There really isn't any need for most of GravityBox functionality in CM however.

I'd firstly ask IF it will receive the update, and only maybe then when will that happen. Either way, there's basically no info regarding our device, at least no info that I know of. Strangely enough, LG G3 updates will start rolling out this week in Europe (or Poland at least). Interesting to see that, because I don't think any company would risk it to 'test' their major updates this way...

Well, it has sort of been a frequent question lately, thought I'd just answer it. But okay...
my phone is stuck in boot loop CM 11
I have the LG L90 D415 and when I flashed an update through a CM Updater (which was broken and I didn't know this until after the flash) I got stuck in a CM boot loop. Volume Down+Power is not taking me to recovery. What do I do?
I think that there needs to be some editions to this thread, especially for the bootstacks since I see at least 5 people a week on the forums asking about issues related to the bootstacks and things have changed since the KitKat days. If it is possible, we should include update data. I'm sorry if this seems like a bunch @shinobisoft but I think it is necessary

I'll have to do some research on the bootstacks. I never upgraded to CM12 so I never went thru the bootstack issues. I also am no longer using my L90 as I had to change carriers but I still own the device. Work has picked up so much for me that I don't even have the time to answer questions here let alone build any ROMs.

Dear All,
Two days before , I brought the HTC One (32 GB Golden) which on digging the Phone identity came to know the Model no 831C, later after goggling it came to know that I belongs to Sprint Carrier.
On inserting the code of Hardware components, I found few test/s were not passed and worked normally, other issues are TV app is not recognizing the server, Double Tap Screen wake/sleep works depending on its mood, vDM Client error pops up often.
Request all the experts here to please help me out with the Solution as to how can I make it work flawlessly.

1) Which tests didn't pass ?
2) Which ROM are you using ?
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
First of all, thank you for addressing my query & sorry for delay in revert.
Sir, I do know it’s the Sprint phone, as far your concern on below questions, let me try to answer them as below:
1) Which tests didn't pass?
When I run the all functions test by this code (*#*#3424#*#*) in one of the test the error word in green / red appears on screen
2) Which ROM are you using?
I believe it’s the Custom ROM, which would have be provided by Sprint. Software no is 1.54.651.8
3) TV app is discontinued by HTC (HTC suggests "Peel Smart Remote")
No comments, will try to search the PSR on play store.
4) Double Tap Screen Wake works only when you lift up phone and proximity is not blocked (5 seconds cooldown between trying again).
Will strictly follow next time when I do it.
Double tap status bar sleep is buggy on lollipop (this can be different if you have custom kernel)
Its on Android KK 4.4.2
5) disable vDM client app to prevent popups (you should also disable other sprint apps like HtcSprintService and Self Service SZ)
I didn’t find the option to disable vDM app nor did I found other apps of sprint. May I request you to suggest any alternates for it ?
Now, sir my other query is Is it advisable to flash a latest LP rom (i.e Goggle play edition or the rom developed by Bad boys team here) , also it seems that I am S-ON, because when I enter the bootload screen Power + Vol Down key where three android icon at bottom appears , I read LOCKED at the very top of the screen.
Pl. suggest whether it shall be advisable to do it if so request you to suggest the best ROM which shall run flawless in India.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Regards
Karan
Can somebody help me out with this please.. ??
The snapshots of my device are attached hereby, my only query is, and considering the attached images of device can I flash a Custom ROM on to it? Will that be advisable to do so? Are there the chances to Brick the device.
If the answer according to all the Experts here lies in assertive, which ROM is best, since this is a Sprint Device, I have found on the forum that Badboyz rom shall go flawless with any Sprint device, so may I go ahead with it. I am in India presently so wish that all the apps i.e Remote TV, Radio should run properly.

You need to delete the second and third pictures, there is way to much personal information in there.
The "Locked" at the top of the screen in the bootloader means that the bootloader is locked. If you look directly underneath it you'll see that it says "S-Off". To flash custom recoveries or roms or anything, you need the bootloader unlocked. You can do this using HTCDev, or since you're soff, you can unlock it via adb.
Once you're bootloader is unlocked, you should be set for everything. Flash a custom recovery like Captain Throwback's custom TWRP, get root if you don't have it already, update your firmware, etc. The bad boys xda page has most of this stuff in it.
Note: Your phone is supercid, so you're not limited to just sprint roms.
---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:04 AM ----------
Also, just wondering what exactly were the tests that failed when you did *#*#3424#*#* ?
Thanks a lot sir, I am grateful to you, I have followed you instruction of deleting the images.
Now, last night I did the Factory Hard reset (P+V-DN keys), it went fine, except the data was erased which I never wanted to be backed up though I was haunting of loosing the Sim Lock, but all went fine.
I have my registration on HTCDEV too, and the process of obtaining the TOKENID should go without any hassles.
Now in pursuant to your advise below, will it still be mandatory to unlock the bootloader ? or I may follow the process of wipe/data and then immediately flash the BB's Rom ?
Further, I stand corrected that all the function tests are passed normally, it was my mistake of not placing the Handset on the plain surface while performing one of the test.
Finally, why the model no in phone identity says 831C, and not M8 - May I request your views on this please?
Thanking you once again for addressing, all you guys are rocking, I am here on this forum since 2008, and needless to say "A Proud Member"
All my Best wishes to MEMBERS.

Yes, you still need to unlock the bootloader. After that you need to flash a custom recovery.
After doing these two you will be able to flash a custom rom, just make sure you follow all the instructions on the BB rom page

Hi ssantos132,
I found there is a SuperSU app preinstalled on my Handset, which prompts me to Grant access when I try to install some other apps from PS- goggle, is my device rooted, because I have found in this link (http://blog.laptopmag.com/root-htc-one-m8), wherein lastly the SuperSU app gets installed automatically.
Pl. guide.
Thanks
Yeah, it looks like you already have root. Try downloading a root checker app from the play store if you want to make sure.

Well thanks for replying. I did that earlier, it says Congratulation your device is rooted. So now when we have concluded that my device is Rooted, the only thing left to be done is, flashing a Custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM right ? Incase if its already been rooted and say if I re-do it, any risk for Device?
Pl. guide.

Yeah, once the bootloader is unlocked you can flash a custom recovery then a rom. You can't flash a custom recovery through TWRP or CWM though. Download a custom recovery then use fastboot flash recovery recovery recovery.img
Believe me, That is one rare cellphone you have got.
I am having the same and as I tried few roms, without backing up the radio and replaced it with some random one. Now my phone is just a toy to play with.
I ll suggest you to stick with the rom you are having right now, Take a nandroid backup of the rom, radio and everything else. and keep it safe for future. You will never be able to find them online for this particular phone.
If you would like to help me solve my phone's issue, Please upload the radio. My phone is just laying around in my desk as I have no way to get it to work.

I know about these devices that are being sold in India. I bought a used phone on OLX having same model number with the exact similar problems. I assume these devices are development only devices which don't run a final version of software. I have noticed that most of the issues in the phone are software related. Using my development expertise, I was able to fix most of the problems and upgrade the firmware to Lollipop, however I have messed up the radio and was unable to restore the radio firmware to anything that actually works (This phones come with a radio version that can't be obtained from any online source). If you can provide the radio image from your device, I will prepare a flashable zip to upgrade the firmware to Lollipop which would include the modem you provide, along with instructions on how to unlock the device and flash it to get going. Probably this would iron out the issues that you are facing with your device.
To grab the radio image from your device, use the following command from "adb shell" or Terminal Emulator
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20 of=/sdcard/radio.img
You will find a file in the sdcard (Internal) named radio.img. Please upload it and provide me with a link.
I would advice you not to make any changes to the device until I provide you with clear instructions on how to do so. Trust me, I really had a hard time with this phone.
Well thanks indeed for the time you took for replying, Sir are you from India Since the name sounds such ?
Secondly, I am desperately looking to upgrade the Software to Latest 5.02 Lollipop from present Kitkat, my basic requirement is that any ROM to which I flash should at least contain the Stock FM Radio, wherein it should be able to tune in the Indian Radio Station.
Confusing issues which keep me scratching my head is that I have pre installed SuperSU app in it. Also I re checked it via installing the app Root Checker which indicated that my device is Rooted. However as and when I tried my device to restart it in Recovery mode it starts normally after a while , the SuperSU app is not getting started.
Can you help me through please. Favor me with (1) Do I need to unlock the Bootloader ? (2) Do I need to flash the custom recovery thru TRWP or CWM ? (3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio (4) A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.
Thank You once again.

Yes. I recommend twrp.
(3) suggest best Rom which will working with FM Radio
None for the phone we are using A Layman's User Guide to carry out all the process.
Please don't upgrade the rom as it might mess with the boot("radio") . Upload your radio and wait for Dhiru's post.
thanks, where shall I get the Radio file please ?

Good afternoon I bought a Nexus 6 but unfortunately has over the version 7.0 and I would like to put over the older the 5.0 lollipop that I could do that by step guide?
This is a developer web site NOT a hold my hand and teach me everything for free website
Learn about your phone, and you will see how to do it
Short answer: You will need to download the appropriate image found here: https://developers.google.com/android/images and use the "fastboot" command (with the phone in bootloader mode) to flash everything EXCEPT the older bootloader.
@wase4711 - A bit harsh on your answer.... The OP did ask in the appropriate forum in which the top sticky states: "This is a noob-friendly thread, so ask whatever you like"
@jbaumert: He asked in the appropriate forum, but made his own thread rather than post his question in the Noob-friendly Q and A thread. Thus he is fair game.
As for the OP, some of us don't spoonfeed here. Read, read some more, and take time to understand things before you attempt to modify the device. Otherwise you could end up with a shiny paperweight.
Why though?
Marshmallow > Nougat > Lollipop
I GUARANTEE you, the OP has NO CLUE as to what he is doing, nor will he have any idea on how to use Fastboot, or any other commands..
and thanks, @Strephon Alkhalikoi for acknowledging that he did NOT ask in the "n00b friendly" thread..at least some of us left here still do read before they post:good::good:
I'm always baffled by people taking backward steps like this. It's normal that a newer version brings new features and better security, though I appreciate that some people have an understandable reason for the step back - better perceived battery life, for example, or Xposed not existing for the new build. But "I want to go back two steps" without stating any reason? Bizarre. @ccypruss000 - why?
(Note: I didn't make any of this software. I just found it all and brought it together. I apologize for not being able to add direct links to each post I got this all from, I didn't record the sites I got them from.)
This is for the people who were unlucky enough to own a VS980 LG G2, rather than the other models which are loved by developers, a phone that is incredibly finicky and niche...
I honestly wish somebody made a guide like this for us VS980 users (a phone which most ROMs don't work on, has a locked bootloader, etc...) before I had to experience this pain.
(Okay, rant over.)
However, I have done it anyway and installed 7.1.1 Nougat on the VS980
(If you don't know the pain I'm talking about, consider yourself lucky...)
I've also gathered all the necessary files to one place so you won't have to hunt like I did. Following this guide to a T should result in a "effortless" to a "dang, I had to do something" modding experience
"Basic" Steps:
Install ALL tools Necessary (Drivers, Programs, Etc...)
Downgrade to Kitkat
Root
Install TWRP and Kernel
Erase Phone
Install Bootstack
Install ROM (CM14.1)
Install Gapps
Reboot and Enjoy (Might take a while first boot.)
Additional Notes (So you guys don't do what I do)
The files are all downloadable here:
Mega: https://mega.nz/folder/nOQiSZhA#geOCtLtVnEqVABogOXhmvA
(The files are 3.3GB so it will take a while.)
Use MegaDownloader to bypass Mega's download restrictions:
https://megadownloader.en.softonic.com/
The folders are marked accordingly to the "Basic" steps listed above.
Follow each of them in order and Open the "READ ME" text file in each for instructions.
Good luck!
(Sorry for the Bland-looking Post and Files, I don't really have a knack for making colorful Guides.)
EXTRA:
If you'd like to try getting 8.1, Here's a link to a ROM (I tested) that works:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v5-6-t3802329
Just make sure you flash the bootstack. Files are found in Folder: "9.Things to Try"
Basically follow the same steps (Downgrading, TWRP, etc...)
-Use Magisk to Root (Better than Super SU because, installed properly, it will hide your root so you don't
have to use Root Cloak.) <=(Pokémon GO)
NOTICE: WHEN REBOOTING AFTER FLASHING, DO NOT PRESS INSTALL SUPER SU
Just press do not install. You can root later....
[ Installing Super SU can possibly brick your phone and you'll have to start over ]
(It's just that every time I press that button, it never works... but I'm not sure )
If you brick your phone (Black screen of death), you can use a USB jig to get it to download mode and use the .kdz flasher (Lg Flash Tool) to restart from the beginning with the stock software.
USB jigs are really cheap (like <2$. I just made one myself ) and are incredibly useful to get out of tight situations. If you plan on modding a lot in the future, you should consider getting one.
(If you don't know what I am talking about, try to keep it that way.)
ADDITIONAL RESOURCES:
I thought I should add this (You're welcome BTW)

Is anyone still out there?
All of the Mega linked folders are empty, am I doing something wrong?
As a side note, my objective is to upgrade the ROM to at least Marshmallow so I can install Android Auto and Screen2 Auto. There is one app I want to use but it isn't allowed by Android Auto. I'm then hoping to make the phone a dedicated Android Auto "server" and leave it connected to my car's USB port. Any guidance on the best way to do this would be appreciated.
My VS980 is currently on the stock Android 5.0.2 ROM.
Update: I managed to get CM14.1 installed following the "Basic" steps. It took some trial and error but I got there.
If anyone finds this thread and knows of a better ROM for my use I'd be interested in hearing about it.

I think the files expired in Mega (or I'm doing something wrong to access them).
My phone seems to be working OK but I don't use it for making phone calls.
My main problem now is I can't figure out how to access fastboot. I get a "waiting for any device" response when I issue any fastboot command. I can get to the download screen where it is waiting for a firmware update but I can't get past that.
Re uploaded the MEGA link. Don't know why there weren't any files there anymore. It is probably because I didn't check it for a while.
