i am looking for the CWM topic which someone has made so after you have installed a new rom you flash the CWM file to re-install CWM. I am 100% sure there is one and that i read it, i just cannot find it anymore

How are you going to flash CWM if you don't have CWM?
I think you're looking for this or this
This thread is god http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2153167
You will find everything you need that are essentials for rooting, recoveries and roms etc. Direct link to CWM for locked BL is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187363
It's a script you'll have to run from your PC. (Incase you were thinking it was a flashable zip)
EDIT: Looks like diego beat me to it lol

nope thats not it, you can do flash it becuase you have already booted into it eg. boot into cwm flash new rom then while you are still in CWM you reflash the file to keep it, other wise if you reboot out of it from installing a new rom you loose cwm

I made a bakcup with ROM manager but when I try to flash it, it says it doesn't have the neccesary permissions to do it. The rom is not root enabled by default, so I guess there's that.
I can't flash it through CWM because it just says "files not found". Any help?.
Our CM9 rom isn't rooted ? I'm sure it is, just check it...
How did you try to flash it ? Via backup or via flash zip ?

Both.
Which version of CWM Recovery do you run ?
I've experienced issues on Tantrums Touch Mod...
5.0.2.6
without root
As was mentioned before, you can't do a backup without Root Permissions.

No, HotFix1 should repair SU but it doesn't.
Well then, I guess I have to wait for the new fix. Thanks for the anwers!.
Just reboot in recovery and do the back up restoration from there.

I can't. You do know that CWM stands for "ClockworkMod" right? (which is the recovery mode).
EDIT: I managed to restore the backup with a different superuser fix. Look for it on the CM9 thread.
I do know what CWM stands for and that's why i did that suggestion. Even though the first build didn't have fully working SU it still had the option to reboot in recovery. When you choose reboot there was reboot and recovery option.
I just happened to do the very suggested thing myself .

Hello fellas. I know you don't like these kind of posts and I agree you're right but I'm completely lost. That's why i'm making this post.
I just installed official 4.1.2 stock rom and it says N7000WELSA rom.
I want to root this. I used "PhilZ-cwm6-UBLSF-UBB-4.87.6" kernel to root that. But after i flashed that nothing happened. Can you guys give me a light on the topic? I'm really new to that stuff and can't see my way out here... Thank you !

Well i downloaded the file "N7000UBLSF_N7000UUBLSF_N7000WELSA_HOME.tar" from Hotfile. And put it in PDA in Odin3 v1.85 and flashed it. I'm writing down every detail because i may have done something wrong.
Then i downloaded "PhilZ-cwm6-UBLSF-UBB-4.87.6.tar" and flashed it the same way.

I used the above tutorials to do so.
If you have used odin to install philz kernel, it will not root. You need to flash the zip version. Or use the supersu.zip file from the following post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
You should now have Cwm recovery. So either flash a zip version of philz kernel or supersu
To get into recovery, use Vol up + power + home

As you are using LSA rom, shouldn't you be using the LSA Philz kernel? For the next time, just flash the zip version in stock recovery and you will get all at once. Root + CWM recovery + Safe kernel.
I don't think it's the rom he's mentioning. It s the baseband for new lsz of a different region.
Do i have to have an External SD Card to use this method ?
now no as you should already have cwm since you pushed philz tar

My last question; Is there a way to format the phone to a state that is just just unboxed? Empty sd card. No programs. Everything clear. My battery is running out real quick and the phone started to slow down a bit. It kinda laggs... And when i flashed the rom it just upgraded the OS. Everything is still the same. Widgets , apps... they are all staying.
??? i dont fully understand. you want to revert to ICS?
No no. I wanna keep JB. But this flashing just upgraded the OS. No files were deleted or so. I just wanna completely format everything on the phone.
yes cuz its a non wipe rom.. boot into philz recovery and wipe data
Thanks again. It did work out. Well i tried to format usb storage using settings>storage> Format USB Storage. But nothing happens and it doesn't format it. Is there any other way ?
Yah. Connect to pc and delete.
Is it safe to select all and delete via computer ?
yes
Hi guys,

No, basically I wanted to start TOTALLY fresh with a new ROM so I went to CWM and formatted EVERYTHING!! I was half asleep when I did it and formatted my SD card (where my ROM was saved lol) I also formatted boot, so I have no recovery anymore either.
What I'm wanting is a custom recovery I can flash using Odin.
So CWM recovery in a .tar format.
Thanks for the help!

So attached one may help you a lot. It works even for JW9! All you need to do - it's install the latest stock ROM first

But this isn't a recovery is it?
It's just a root package for stock firmware?
All I'm looking for is a custom recovery (like CWM) that I can flash in Odin so I can get a recovery back on my phone and flash CM
This on contains Root+CWM3 for stock ROM
I have a somewhat stupid question...
In a couple of ROM´s I have downloaded, both AOSP and modded Stock(not flashed yet), I see that there´s a "boot.img" included... kernel, right? I have read in several threads how to flash a new ROM and that I have to use Flashtool to first flash the boot.img (extracted from the zip). So far so good. But then in some threads I read that as long as I have a unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery I can just flash the full *.zip and dont have to bother with Flashtool... Is this really true?

Usually it should work with your custom recovery. Sometimes it fails though, then you need to flash the boot.img

There will be a message that flashing to zip failed.
if you backup your current system with a recovery you can restore your backup. (Though this will only work if you try to restore it with the same recovery. You cant restore a CWM made backup with TWRP for example)

Hello there!
I'm new in this section of XDA. And I'm a bit confused. There are many different threads how to root etc.
What order am I supposed to do things in?
In my previous section, the order was something like:
1. Root phone
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Flash kernel
4. Enter CWM and flash custom rom
Thanks in advance!

you shouldnt flash kernel before rom. because some kernels are not competitable with some roms. Roms comes with kernels anyway.
1. you should root your phone
2. install TWRP ( its used by most ROMs atm., its easier if you want to use CM or Omni or etc.) some apps in market helps to install TWRP and etc. ( Rashr if i remmember correct.)
3. Flash which ROM you want to ( but i suggest first make a nandroid backup in case things go wrong.) a.)go in recovery whipe data/system/dalvik/dalvik cache
b.) flash your rom from sd card.( zip file)
c.) flash gapps after you flash your rom.
d.) wipe dalvik and dalvik cache and reboot and youre good to go.
4. if you want to use different kernel which your ROM comes with. you can flash your kernel after your rom.
You can also flash your rom with odin. its easier and you can find how to flash with odin and when you flash with odin, you will also have recovery anyway and mostly ROMs comes with root after you flash. ( You should root your phone like go in recovery and flash supersu. if you going to use OmniRom as it not comes with root.)
hope it may help tho.

Thanks, I hope it will help. Not quite sure how to root yet though.
I had a Xperia Mini, always flashed kernel first for that phone.
Do I not need to flash a kernel seperately on this phone?

oh after you install TWRP, you can install latest supersu zip from xda, and you can flash it to your phone and then you will have root, or there are some programs for one click root for samsung s3 mini, but not sure, didnt try them. but people say they are working good.
and yea, you flash your kernel after you flash your ROM, you can check in kernel parts and see if they are working with your rom and then you can flash it.

yes when you are installing a new ROM follow that guide. its pretty well written and it is definitely correct, just before you do anything and wipe any data. go to back up and make a nandroid back up to be safe. then you can restore it if anything goes wrong.
About kernel, you will do the same like rom. when you install your new rom and gapps just reboot your phone after you check around a bit and then flash kernel zip like how you installed your rom. just do not wipe anything and here are some kernels people use in samsung s3 mini.
