[Q] Root and efs backup - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all guys! I'm new to this phone
I have i8190L (Latin) variant of the s3 mini, Android 4.1.1, the CHE csc code (Chilean Entel network provider firmware), and I want to install the latest 4.1.2 firmware for my country generic firmware (CHO csc code).
But for being sure, it's recommended to do an efs folder backup, and I have to be rooted for doing that. But the only way to get root is to flash another pre-rooted firmware, and that process can screw up my efs folder anyway.
What can I do? I don't want to f*** up my phone
Thx in advance, and sorry for my English

EDIT: Already rooted with a method which is not necessary to flash some pre-rooted firmware.

Doubt on I8190L

Hello guys
I used the mini tools to root my phone.
Installed BLN kernel without any problem.
My phone is on I8190LUBAMA1 and CSC I8190LZTOAMA1
i was looking at samsung-updates.com and saw some other firmwares newer than my stock.
Is it safe to download and install the firmware I8190LUBAMG2 ? Is marked as an Mexican firmware(I live in Brazil).
Installing this new firmware, do i lose cmw, root?
Thanks
Sergio

Hi Sergio, it is safe to install the mentioned firmware, however, consider that you are going to lose CWM and root. Furthermore, as the firmware is Mexican, it contains local apps. So, if you are planning to move to this new firmware I suggest you to after do it install the cwm again through Odin and then a Custom Rom in order to get rooted again and remove those local apps. Regards
Reyesteban,
So if i install this firmware, it will update kernel and baseband, right?
Later, when i install a custom rom the kernel and baseband will be keeped from the mexican firmware?
The installation for the Mexican Firmware should be done via Odin? or i could use CMW?

The Firmware, as it is an official one, replaces kernel, baseband and even the boot screen and you just can install it through Odin. And you are right, when installing the custom rom, kernel and baseband will keep the same. However, boot, rom apps and look&feel are going to change...

[Q] Debrand I-9305 with T-Mob NL Software

I now have a I-9305 with T-Mobile Software on it, but I like to flash the original S3 I9305 Firmware (I9305XXBME1_I9305PHNBME2_PHN) on it to get rid of the bloatware. Is this possible? I've downloaded the firmware but I am, probably due to KNOX, unable to flash this firmware and it gives me a NAND Write error. Flashing the original firmware goes fine.
I'm not new to Android, but I'm unfamiliar with Samsung S3 devices. I know tools like Odin, Recovery and Download-mode.
Thanks!
Bump... Any clue how I can get generic software on this baby ?!
Simply flash via Odin, should work. But why BME2, when you have much newer 4.3 firmwares?

I have tried flashing through ODIN, but Knox Bootloader prevents me to do so. I have downloaded this firmware from Sammobile. The 4.1.2 version from TNL flashes normally, so I think that the bootloader prevents me to flash a generic Firmware.
Where can I download the newest Firmware for i-9305 for the Netherlands (I don't want a foreign Firmware, just the NL Firmware)?

You sure? Sounds weird cause as far as I know, KNOX was only introduced for our phone since android 4.3
And even if you have the new bootloader with KNOX, it shouldn't be a problem in my opinion. I have the new bootloader as well and flashing, via Odin and recovery, isn't a problem at all.
You can download any 4.3 version you want, this won't afact your phone at all and your language will remain Dutch

Hee man,
Op Sammobile zou ik als ik jou was de nieuwste duitse 4.3 firmware downloaden (je kan alsnog alles in het nederlands doen) als je stock rom wil tenminste. Hoezo wil je geen custom rom eigenlijk?
Thanks guys!
I've now flashed the original NL Firmware. Mobile ODIN has done the trick! With Odin under Windows, I get a failure at once, but with Mobile Odin, everything is fine. Now I have the original 4.3 PHN Firmware flashed on this device, exactly as I want. This Phone is only a spare one and should be as original as possible.
Thanks for your support!

GT I9305 Android 4.3 RO Orange how to root?

Hello to all.
I have a GT I9305 with Android 4.3 from carrier Orange country RO, I need help in rooting my phone, I want to put the S5 project on my S3 smartphone.
For the beginning I have done some research on the forum and found some related topics but I'm stuck. I want root so I can back-up my efs partition so I'll not lose my IMEI.
The steps that I fallowed are:
Read topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/frequently-questions-t2148708 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/howto-rooting-wiping-flashing-ultimate-t1911726
Tried Safe root, but it fails with msg: Kernel patched!
Read about CF-Root but I don't understand all the codes from the list, wich one to use? Is the one from the GTI9305 appropriate for me, hope will not break my phone, or is just for the international GTI9305?
Model: GT I9305
The base-band version is: I9305XXUEMK1
Android: 4.3
Kernel 3.0.31-2051278
Can I obtain root on this smartphone? Thank you in advance.

CF root have problems with JB 4.3 ... Flash a custom recovery (cwm, philz or twrp) and flash with it the latest superSU.zip (there you can find it on the forum) i hope it helps you and sorry for my bad english
I have a GT-I9305 Orange device which was on 4.3
I could flash the new 4.4.4 Stock Rom successfully using Odin v3.07
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ck-rom-4-4-4-gt-i9305n-i9305nxxufni4-t2886807
Then use this guide to ROOT it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...covery-i9305-cwm-philz-twrp-versions-t2694249
(I did not used any recovery mentioned in the post. Because earlier i had problems with Philz recovery. This time I just rooted it)

Well i own a Samsung Galaxy S3 GT- i9305 4G LTE which i rooted months back in order to install android kikkat 4.4 .But i later found that the android kikkat versions available den, were not the officail ones and the users complained various problems with the custom ones so i decided to wait for the official release and to install it manually using ODIN!
Now when the officail kikkat is avialable to download i am damn confused about regions i should download from ..coz my PDA version and Csc version denote different regions !
So what i need is some expert advice on this as to what to do in this case when the PDA and CSC /Product code show different regions!? Should i change my csc, den how?n how do i know the correct csc for my device coz my PDA shws i have a multi csc ?(n i dont knw what was my csc before i rooted)
Phone Info
Model:Gt - i9305 4g lte
Country of origin: MADE IN VEITNAM
Original CSC code: VDI
Product Code: GT-I9305RWDVDI
PDA version: I9305XXUEMKC

So are you having any problems? You can use different PDA(rom) and CSC(sales code) as long as they are from the same android version. It shouldn't matter otherwise. The baseband version will affect your reception and is region specific(ie. What may work well in one region may not work so well in another) If you want stock samsung firmware, the version you install will replace the PDA, CSC and baseband that you have now.

So I'm assuming you really want official firmware. I would suggest a custom rom but it's your choice. I don't think installing 4.4.4 official firmware will be a problem, only with the baseband as I mentioned earlier might be a bit hit or miss as it will be chosen for the region where it was released. Also once you install 4.4.4 I'm pretty sure you won't be able to go back to 4.3. The only thing I can suggest if you are certain you want official is try one, then if you face any reception problems or excessive battery drain or something try another one. You are not limited to Germany/Ireland either: By flashing the firmware you download, you replace the PDA, CSC and baseband.

Firstly ya i want the official one coz want to get back my warranty.i know i can unroot to get the warranty back but still i rooted it for being able to get the official fimware on my wish .. but i will surely check with the baseband thing n confirm whether the one i choose will work well i m my region(ie UAE) or not as u said its region specific( that is what u want me to do ryt before proceeding with a baseband Just being sure ..its my first time so want to be clear mate
The question of not being able to go back to 4.3 has confused me like i was willing to back up my current rom so anything as u mentioned arises, i would easily downgrade ! ?
Lastly i am downloading the offical kikkat (from samsung updates.com) so should i back my efs folder and imei as well?any help with that would be gr8

As I've mentioned before when you flash the firmware, everything is included such as baseband
Regarding downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.3, I have read reports saying the bootloader won't allow you to install 4.3 as it is not compatible, but I'm not sure, I've never tried it. Just google and read as much as you can if this is important(being able to downgrade)
Always have a backup of efs folder on your pc. This contains important stuff such as imei.

Hi, I have a question. Recently my phone was updated to latest software 7.1 however i wish to return to marshmallow. This firmware that u have available, will it work for my country Trinidad and Tobago? What are the implications for installing a firmware not meant for your country? Also just for confirmation. The firmware software that I am finding does not match my PDA and CSC number.. Will this be a problem?

Yes, you can install nearly any of the firmwares from the sammobile site. If you're asking which firmware would be the best to flash to your device, it depends where you are located. The NI1 firmware is available for several different countries, so I would flash the firmware for your region, it should be optimized to best work on your networks.

When you flash the firmware through Odin it will completely wipe the device, it doesn't matter if you're rooted or not.
thank you
but what if the S4 is locked to orange carrier?
The firmware I have downloaded is carrier free...
is there any problem?
I am afraid of bricking the phone.... I understood the root will not be a problem, but I am afraid of the lock carrier.... the baseband is not the same as the one installed on the phone now
