Ok would you be able to point med to a guide? Because the ones I've found includes unlocking bootloader, downgrading and install a custom kernel - and as far as I remember that did wipe my phone last time (Xperia s)

Do You need root?
If You like to delete some useless apps which You cannot delete without root acces or You wanna install apps which must have root access to be installed and used - than YES.
If You are not in need of those things - don't bother rooting.

PS root it

Rooting allows you to unlock the full potential (at least 80%, Unlocking bootloader the other 20%) of the Xperia, stock sound is really quiet so even if you root and install puresound mod is worth it

Help a brother out
When the Z1 first launched, I was able to root the device.
I'm ignorant enough to not know if I had unlocked the bootloader.
General forum research tells me that if I'm not sure if I unlocked the bootloader, it means I didn't unlock the bootloader.
I updated my Z1 (C9606) to 14.1.G.2.257 Build.
I'm still running Android 4.2.2
Is there a way to root device without unlocking?
If so, could someone point towards the thread I need to follow?
thanks!

Hello,
flash back to .534 with flashtool then root and custom recovery your device and put a custom pre rootet rom on.I think that is the only solution also the same point as the threat starter asks for you only can use pre rootet roms for now.
best regards and wishes,
Nico

What if rolled back to .534, custom recovered, rooted and then tried to flash .290 (JB 4.3)?
Has anyone tried this?
Is there any way of getting stock 4.3 rooted?

Hi again. Maybe I didn't explain myself properly... I know I can install recovery connecting Phone to the computer. What I wanted to know is if it's possible to install recovery from the Phone, without connecting it to the computer using an app. I allready have root. Thanks Anyway.

I'm pretty sure you can do it with flashify, you just need to be rooted, which you already are.

Do you read before posting? Flashify was already suggested 3 days ago, only 2 posts above yours. I know you're eager to help, but spamming many posts a day isn't the way to go about it. ?
It most probably won't work for our device anyway, as it doesn't have a traditional recovery arrangement with a dedicated partition like most other non Xperia devices do.
