Got to say its refreshing to get a device out of the box and within a few minutes I'm all set up and running a nearly stock device. The device build quality feels great and the screen looks really good. The speaker is surprisingly loud and decent from my quick testing.
I know everyone keeps calling this thing midrange but I have been dieing for a nearly stock device with a 720p 4.3" screen and LTE. I also am enjoying the fact that its an AT&T branded device with a bootloader I can unlock on day 1. Thats a good start.

How did you unlock the bootloader?
I agree, this is just what I was looking for, a small device that with just a few min I could get to be as stock as possible. I am really glad that HTC did not put Sense under the Facebook Home thing, I was really happy to see stock Android under there.
For me the form factor is just right, I am not a big fan of the push to 5"+ screen sizes and this is just what I wanted for a for a light LTE phone.
You can unlock the boot loader by visiting htcdev.com and using their developer flow. I did that before I even signed into the Google or Facebook accounts, because note, it will wipe your entire device when you unlock the boot loader.

htcdev.com normal workflow works fine, when you get to the device selection just pick the bottom, "Other supported devices" option.

Should I go ahead and unlock it? Any chance that it would interfere with a possible root method?
Considering that you'll likely need to unlock the boot loader to flash a recovery and/or custom ROM, and unlocking the boot loader will wipe your phone, better to get it out of the way now than wait until you have more and more data that you'll need to backup when you do... That's why I did it the moment I unboxed my phone at least.

If you ever plan to put custom roms or really any recovery it will be required. It will only make getting root easier, not harder.

Too early for me to make a judgement call. I've only had a sim in it for about 12 hours. I'll keep an eye on things over the next week.

If you're not using it too much, it should definitely make it through two days if you stay in areas with good reception. I've used it quite extensively the past few days, between reading, browsing, and music/podcasts, and I still usually have about half of the battery left when I go to bed.
I don't think I could make it longer than a full day. I use my phone quite a bit during the day with 3 push email accounts, podcasts, and plenty of twitter.
For me I am 13 hours into a very heavy usage day in and out of areas with spotty service and I've got 27% left.
In my eyes that's great, but I always neurotically charge my phones overnight.

This device is the first Android device I've had that kept up with the iPhone. I'd say this is on par with my iPhone 5 which the Nexus 4 I had previously couldn't dream of reaching. The battery level is very comfortable.

I agree. I think I've tried every phone on ATT (minus the HTC One and SGS IV) and this little guy definitely can get through an entire day without needing a charge. It's not on the same level as the iPhone, which I give a 10 out of 10 for it's relatively low mAH capacity versus performance, but it's been the best so far that I've tried on ATT.

keeping mine. stock its not bad, and rooted will be epic! i'd consider the SG2, but for $100 more, it doesnt seem like the right deal... loving the vivid!
Mines going back tomorrow for the nitro, I won't miss it too much since I also have an amaze 4g. The wife doesn't understand why I need 2 hi end phones but what she doesn't realize is that come march I'll have 3 and in July I'll be adding another. If the vivid gets perm root and unlocked with s-off I'll probably get another one. I love the phone and the screen is one of the prettiest out there in my opinion. Hopefully it won't take long to get things moving on it, if htc doesn't keep their promise the amaze might be my last htc device unless if they were to bring a rezound to att, if that happened I'd be like a kid at Christmas.
Best of luck to those keeping it, it really is a great phone but I see the word HD in a device name and I start slobbering all over myself.

I'm Keeping Mine
It does what I need - phone calls, texting, web access, running apps I've installed. Except for a couple of random reboots (none recently) and one system freeze (pulled the battery) over 30 days, I've had no real problems. It's fast when I have a good data connection, and I don't think it's the phone's fault when I don't. I did give AT&T a list of issues for their survey, but overall, I'm satisfied.
As for the Carrier IQ issue, any phone I get from AT&T (except for possibly the iPhone 4S) will have CIQ software on it. Rooting, when available, may not be totally stable yet for any of the new LTE phones. The best solution for me is to keep my communications plain vanilla, which I do any way, so there's nothing that I need to be worried about. I do want to CIQ stuff off my phone if and when there is a safe way to do it.

Our own Gsleon has been talking with Evil_Devnull a little bit. Evil is working on rooting the HTC Rezound (which is nearly identical to the Vivid). So as of now, keep on the lookout for the progress with the Rezound root, because that could very well translate to when/how we Vivid owners get root.

I didn't.
Quite simply, there is no viable alternative.
The skyrockets screen is horrendous and build quality is scary.
The nitro has the most beautiful screen I have ever seen but it is so laggy, unresponsive and jittery it feels like am entry level Android device, plus even with an unlocked bootloader devs hate LG so who knows what roms will ever come out for it.
So I sit... And pray someone crack this thing.

Finally... someone talks some sense. LG development is/has always been a joke. Samsung development consists of TouchWiz and AOSP Rom's (is there even a difference between the two?). Hello all,
I'm planning to get a new Samsung Focus S off eBay within the next few months. They're selling as low as $350 shipping included so I figured I'd take advantage of the deal.
I currently have an LG Quantum (two of them, actually), which are loaded with apps and interop-unlocked. I can typically get 10-12 hours on a single charge, with moderate messaging and internet usage, email push @ 1 hour, etc.
I'm honestly not satisfied with that and hope this device has either similar or better battery life. What do you guys find your devices get? I'll be purchasing an extra battery with the Focus S by default, as I prefer to always be connected.
Also, is it possible to interop-unlock the Focus S, or is there custom ROMs available for it? Those two things are absolute musts.
And to anyone with a carrier unlocked Focus S, does MMS/picture messaging work?
Thanks.
*removed post*
I just got my S and trust me man, your gonna love it, battery gets me through my school day and sports afterwards returning home with about... 30% battery left? WiFi always on same with "4g". You can interop unlock it FREE by going to windowsbreak http://windowsphonehacker.com/windowbreak/ BUT so far no custom roms and I haven't gotten any info on development for 1. If you hear something keep me posted. I was also wondering about it SIM unlocked and if MMS and the likes work because I haven't even put mine on AT&T yet/ at all.
If you want a Focus S, now is the time to look for one. The market is a bit flooded after the "Smoked by Windows Phone" challenge down here, and Ebay US prices are now sub $300. In some cases, well below $300. Something to consider.

I just got a topic reply from XDA and lol'd as I've been an Iphone owner now for about 3 months. All I have to say is I'm a happy camper again when it comes to having a cell phone. I had countless issues with multiple Revo's stock and rom'd out. ***** at VZW enough you can get lucky and get out of such a terrible phone. Yeah I lost my 4G (which i had turned off on my Revo to attempt to get 7hrs of battery) but not being a heavy data user it doesnt bother me especially because I get almost 2 days out of my 4s. Not trying to get on an Apple rant but if you simply use your phone as a phone and want it to be reliable it may be worth looking into!
Sorry, but no I'll never purchase iCrap. I have an iPod touch 2nd generation because that was what was cool back in the day and now iPhones are cool and I prefer my Android over iCrap any day. I may lose out on ton of the new games that are out on iOS months sometimes years before Android but that's fine with me since I'd rather have my better performing OS that has new features and aren't behind on features.
They upgraded me to a bionic from the revolution then to the rezound all for free lolv

Definitely not turning this into a debate, I'm just saying if you are having fits with your Revo you can get out of it if you really complain and I'm pretty happy with my iPhone. It never needs rebooted, camera couldnt get much better, battery life is insanely good (charges very fast too), and plugs into my car to play music lol.

I have no speculation as to the cost of it. I have typically bought my phones off contract anyway so paying $600 is normal for me. The fact that the N4 was so inexpensive was just a treat. I never really expected to pay that little for a phone off contract again.
Suppose with the rumors of the N5 swirling around maybe I should just wait it out until November again. Damn, I just get bored too quickly.

From what Ive been reading, this will be their only flagship phone this year. That being said, 6 months from now I'd be looking at the N5 anyway, so just in time. I average about 6 months between phones anyway.
HTC is getting killed by Samsung and Apple, i`am afraid they will not survive on the log run. Now they have serious delays in producing the casings and the camera components and a limited marketing budget. Samsung will go full steam ahead and are allready producing at 110% and marketing will kick in globaly when the actual delivery`s take place. RIP HTC.

From my experience the HTC phones have terrible quality control issues. I've had to replace my Evo 3D the times before I had to settle with a decent one which had a long piece of lint behind the glass of the camera.
Looks like the One X was also plagued with issues as well. There's no telling what issues will be present since they're going with a whole different tech this time with their aluminum design.

I love the phone design.
I have a Nexus 4, and an HTC One dummy phone.
They both feel very well crafted, both in their own way. One knock I have against HTC is their software. I've never really liked sense. The Blink Feed thing looks gimmicky. But, the One does have a better camera, and probably better battery life.
If you need a decent camera and you don't mind delayed updates, go with the One. I might purchase a One, but more than likely I'll stick with my Nexus 4 until the Nexus 5 is released.
Re: N4 -> HTC One?
That's what they said when I bought my one x.. Only to find about about the one x+, droid DNA, and butterfly in between and now one

Anyone consider going over to the HTC One? I think that phone is gorgeous. It used to be that you wanted the Nexus device because you could get the latest Android OS the fastest but if you use a ROM it doesnt matter anymore.
Just wondering if anyone else has considered the leap.

Even with the "ROMS" you're still not getting what you get with an official Google build. There are parts of it that just have to be hacked around with until they mostly work with whatever aosp they're likely based off of(think all of the proprietary kernel BLOBs...) while Google probably either has access to the latest binaries or even source(never really looked yet as the n4 is my first actual "Google"(kinda) device...).
i.e. a nexus build SHOULD just work, while your ROM may or may not just work or might blow up at just the wrong moment(unlikely mostly, but still wouldn't really surprise me).
As to hopping to a new phone?! R u mad?! I just got the n4, and will stay with it until the next nexus is released probably, given that I'm in for cases, holsters, Qi charger, etc. and the One or even S4 just aren't "better" enough to be tempting at all, although I do sorely miss a uSD slot. (WTF?! HTH can a uSD be complicated/confusing when you have to damned well install a uSIM?! Also kinda missing a replaceable batt, esp with GPS apps which just SUCK batt like nobodies business...(I blame the enlightened for that...))
Hey all,
Just upgraded to the One this last week from the HTC Mytouch 4g Slide, and so far I love everything about the phone except the camera. Which is alright because the HTC M8 is supposed to have a (much) better camera (obviously we've only got a little to go on right now).
I had rooted and installed a custom ROM on my MT4GS, which I loved, but I'm thinking I'm going to keep stock ROM on this one. The only thing I'd want to root it for would be to have more control over the phone and a wider array of available apps.
But I plan on selling the phone once the M8 comes out in May-June.
What is your advice? Is it worth rooting for the couple of months? Is there a risk associated with decreasing the sell price of the phone? Other thoughts?

Only if you are running something that requires root
I would like to use an app that allows me to restart or power off without using the power button at the top of the phone. Also ES File Explorer is nice when it has root privileges.
I'm just worried about it affecting the potential selling price.

Well, if u restore the phone correctly 2 its unrooted state, nobody will even come 2 know that it was ever rooted. I unrooted my rooted phone and sent it for warranty repair. The phone was THAT STOCK. completely untraceable if restored correctly. So, no, it wont affect selling price
BTW, throw it ur warranty card. It will fetch u a higher price
If you want to use something that needs root, just do it
When you will sell the phone, just back stock and you will not have problems

It will say relocked
Doesn't that just tell the purchaser that e fiddled with it and the warranty is voided?
