DIY Lens cover - Galaxy Camera Accessories

Hello everyone. Just want to share my DIY cover. I don't like to use a camera case but i want something can protect my lens.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium

how? share it

Simply cut the Pylox spray cap to fit the camera lens size.

Big thanks, I've made one myself last week. What a bummer that there aren't any genuine for sale from Samsung. I'd rather buy one. I bought a flipcover for my s4 zoom and a lenscover came with it.
Sent from my GT-P5210 using XDA Premium HD app

Does is even attach to the lens? I mean, if you flip the lens to he facing downwards, won't the cap fall off?

Someone asked how, I'm asking why?
By nature of design, there is no exposed lens nor any other protective benefits that I can see from such a mod.
While I don't yet understand, it is quite clever!

Metal bumper case question.. For those who own one.

Does your metal bumper case have a slight raise from the side to prevent scratches to both front and back especially the camera lens?
Do you think it would fit with a slim case?
Please post a link where you bought it.
Thank you very much and pardon my engrish!

If you worry about the back, maybe you can just buy a spare battery cover from eBay. I got 2 and they are about 8 dollars each and they are both with nfc

I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I think the aluminium case gives good screen protection, but although it is reasonably low profile the few millimetres each side do seem to make the Note 2 feel much bigger. I personally don't think it's the most elegant case, they look OK from the front, but the back doesn't seem to follow the flow of the stock battery case too well.
Don't get me wrong, the phone fits in perfectly without any movement but not my cup of tea. I lose one bar on the phone signal when the case is on, NFC is fine.
Possibly a like or hate accessory!
Thanks for all the replies. That was my main concern. I wanted a metal bumper case that has a slight rise to protect the camera lens. I'm going to buy a ballistic 3 layer protection case since GN2 can be easily damage even at waist height drop.
Why ballistic? Because its relatively cheap, unlike otterbox and offers awesome drop protection. Had one for E4GT and money worth spending.
Thanks again.

i use that one. slight raises on the front and back to protect the camera. It adds a little weight to the phone but its not unbearable. I actually like it. I also got the armror suit military shield screen and back protector. Screen protector was not compatible with the case, cause when I removed the phone from the case, the sliding portion of the front peeled the screen protector off. and the added thickness of the armorsuit full body protector makes it very snug in the case. probably the reason why it the screen protector peeled off as I was trying to remove it.

The bumper in my experience is causing a loss of one bar. I'm in good coverage areas or around WIFI constantly so no big deal for me.

these bumper cases, esp the metal ones.. are they easy to remove/replace? As a frequent traveler, I switch batteries every night to make sure that i'll always have a fully charged spare.. I'd hate to use the bumper case where you need a small screw to open (i think I saw a bumper case like that once).

If theres any UK users in this thread that wants a black aluminium bumper for free then let me know and PM me your address. I bought one to try along with a selection of cases but am unlikely to use it. Its a great fit for the phone and is a screwless design.......the front plate slides up and snaps into place. I bought it from the link below.

Samsung Protective Bumper Cover Plus Case - feedback please

Does anyone have this one? I had a bumper on an iPhone previously and liked how it gave it some grab when I set it down on a table. But also gives some protection while keeping it closer to naked.

Is it pretty thin? Also, is the bumper flush with the case on the back? I had a Belkin one on my games horrible.
Don't have it myself, but heard it scratches and very slippery.
I have this case and it's great. My coworker has the black one and it does scratch quite easily and is noticeable, but I have the white one, so it's not too bad. It's slim and protects the screen well. It's not as nice as the OEM S3 one but it works well and matches nicely.
I currently use the black one. It has a great design because the back is glossy which helps you slide the phone in and out of the pocket with ease and offers protection with minimal bulk. You can also put the screen face down without worry of scratching the screen. The buttons are also covered by the bumber so you dont need to worry about the buttons wearing down from moisture.

Just to let you know, if you don't already, that this is more of a case than a bumper. Everyone keeps throwing around the word bumper. This case does have a back. It is not a bumper in the sense that it only surrounds the sides of the phone.

Yes. Thanks for clarifying in the thread though. I'm going to give it a try and will report back. I'm not a fan of cases in general, but I dropped my last s3 and it was forever scarred with a scrape on the corner of the bezel.
Seems like it would be cool of Samsung made it so you removed the oem back and then attached the bumper case using the clips. Vs adding a second back.

No Sony Xperia Otterbox case?

G'day everyone,
I've been told that Otterbox is not making any cases for the Xperia Z,
Which is very annoying as thats the case thats perfect for me as im a Tradesman.
Is there any cases out there that are similar to the otterbox defender case for the xperia z?
I cant find much topics regarding this, basically its a case with three parts, the screen protector plate, the front plate and the back plate which is very thick as i need it for work.
I've had the phone for about 3 days now - not opened due to not having a good case for my work... its killing me haha....
Basically this is the Otterbox case for the Iphone:

Greatly appreciated,
Jon
Casemate tough case is probably the best tough case but it has no protection for the front like the Otterbourne otherwise a flip case is probably your best bet

I remember reading somewhere that otterbox were going to make a case for the Z but that was a while ago, the casemate tough case is a great option and use a high quality screen protector to protect there.

Yeah I messaged otterbox myself regarding it, they haven't made one "yet" and they'll let me know if any progress of a case for Xperia z is going to be taken up. I highly doubt they will be making one as its been a bit since the phone was released. Although I decided to order the tough case-mate case, as that's the best "rugged" one I have found so far, even though there isn't much too choose from sadly.
Dying to try out the phone, while waiting for the case mate to be delivered I bought a normal TPU case because I can't wait any longer... as its just sitting sealed on my desk for a good week now... I'm actually impressed that I haven't opened it yet lol.

Tempered glass is the way to go, trust me.
Brando tempered glass rounded edition was my choosing and i'm very happy.
Built like a tank, smooth to the touch, rounded corners, 9H hardness, oleophobic coatic, has the proper sensor cuts, best buy i've made for any smartphone i owned so far....

It's real glass with 9H, it will last quite a while if you don't abuse it with constant drops. It's also rounded on the edges so it has a fairly good resistance to little chips from ocasional bumps.
No clue about the oleophobic layer, so far so good as in the first day.
I have the glass for a couple months now and it's exactly the same as in the first day i bought it, Hoping it will last for 5-6 months in pristine condition it will be a major good buy as the price it's quite afordable and the touch feeling of glass is absolutely amazing, seems the fingers just glide through the screen.

It lasts as long as you want, I broke the first one because I wasn't careful enough while putting the phone in the dock, so if you have a dock be cautions when you're about to charge your phone. Don't be scared tho, I got my second protector, been using it with the dock without a problem. But if I'm not careful enough it might break again. It won't really break, just crack (Which is essentially the same but still..)

Just follow the instructions, it's quite simple tbh and much easier not to mess up compared to film/plastic screen protectors.
Bubble-wise it's nearly not a problem as with the nice squeege its easy to disperse them, the major problem is dust that may be caught between the glass and the screen, you do have some stickers that help a lot on those but only if the dust particle is near the edges of the glass, if it's in the middle you have to take back the glass to take the dust off. it's not realy a major problem as the glass glues with a substance that keeps glueing even if you remove the glass a couple of times, but just be carefull.
Be sure to realy clean the XZ shatter proof layer and try not to apply the glass in a dust-abundant environment.
Also (realy important) is necessary to understand that this brando glass is not a 100% fit on the phone entire screen. Example if the ZX screen is XX mm tall, the brando tempered glass is (XX - 0,5 mm tall) meaning that is slightly shorter than the screen, so you better adjust it to the speaker on top and start placing it 0,5 mm below it and it will fit nicely 0,5 mm above the bottom microphone. Also on the sides, 0,5 mm maximum.
This might sound that the glass is not of a good size, but after you place it on the phone you'll understand that this is even better than a "perfect" fit as the phone seems to be more rounded on the screen afterwards, trust me, you'll like it.

I did not put the screen protector on yet. I am about to do that right now. The case has a very nice premium feel to it with the phone. Fits tight and is not loose at all. I dont have to push down really hard for the buttons to click. You dont have to apply that much pressure or the buttons and all the cutouts are perfect. When taking photos with flash it does not affect the photos at all.

buttons are not stiff at all. You dont have to press down hard for the button to click, which has always been my problem with other tpu cases that cover buttons. On this case it feels as if your pressing on the button with nothing covering it at all. Its very nice

You got a warranty replacement because of the scratched camera lens?
My lens also has some scratches even though I handled the phone like a raw egg... I simply don't understand why HTC uses the cheapest kind of plastic to cover the camera lens, when the rest of the phone is premium quality?!
I bought the Nillkin protector and used the camera lens protectors as well.

I put the Nillkin protectors on the device as soon as I could, dunno if they'll affect the marginal camera in this thing, but the inevitable scratches, which your experience bears out, sure would.

My camera lens got a large scratch on it within days of getting it, seems it's the same cheap soft plastic lens cover like all other HTC phones use, such a shame.
Lucky for me the scratch was just off the centre and doesn't seem to notice on picture quality.
To try stop any more scratches I got a martin fields screen protector, as they come with 4 x lens covers, 2 for each rear camera.
I don't notice any loss of picture quality with the protectors over the lenses, so is well worth doing.
I really wish someone would start making lens protectors on their own

You got a warranty replacement because of the scratched camera lens?
My lens also has some scratches even though I handled the phone like a raw egg... I simply don't understand why HTC uses the cheapest kind of plastic to cover the camera lens, when the rest of the phone is premium quality?!

How do people do this? I don't understand. I work in the oilfield... Lots of dirt, dust, and sand and have never scratched the lenses. Are you guys using the device naked? Not sure how else it would be possible.

Exactly what I want to know too. How is it possible? Never happened to any of my other phones. They wouldn't be replacing it for free if it wasn't possible.
It happens when you try to clean the lens when it has fingerprint smudges on it. Because it's inset, it's much more difficult to clean. I ordered a Nilkin tempered glass protector mainly just for the camera protection.

What are you using to clean it???!
A paper towel is *not* suitable at all!
Only a microfibre cloth OR lens pen should be used.
In a bind something soft-ish, i.e. terrycloth, could be used.
But never use a paper towel or napkin. Way too harsh for AR coatings, for example.
If the cover is loaded with silica dusts, these should be removed with a lens pen before using any kind of material to clean.
Otherwise you will wind up with tiny scratches that work similar to a diffraction grating filter creating "star" effects around pinpoint sources, lines and and other aberrations that will definitely mar your images.
The only remedy at that point is to replace the cover or remove it completely which puts the actual camera objective lens at risk of exposure.

I had an M8 replaced (unrelated issue) which had a bunch of scratches on the main lens cover. I treated it exactly the same as my M7 which didn't get scratches in the 6 months I owned it. I defs think HTC has changed something.
Anyway I got a lens protector with the Nillkin screen protector I bought for the replacement handset, but I mucked up the install so I took it off. Using the Nillkin one as a template, I cut out a circle from a spare M7 screen protector I had lying around. It's not pretty but it does the job perfectly.

I used to use paper towels to clean my camera lens, but after reading about how you can remove slight imperfections and scratches by using abrasive materials, I've switched to sandpaper almost exclusively. I tried using a napkin once, but the barbecue sauce (I thought the napkin had dried) got stuck in between the cracks of the lens and device. Needless to say, I don't use napkins anymore.

I've never heard of a "lens pen" as I have the photographic skill of an untrained rock, but luckily am familiar with microfiber cloths. However I don't see the value in carrying one around as I had no such need with my GS3, a device made almost entirely of cheap plastic. I had no issue using the cloth from my T-shirt and pants pockets (soft, light material) to clean the screen and lens.
The current scratching is minimal and is not affecting my photos. But I know that unless I act now I will have those issues you mentioned. Whether its between buying a lens pen or carrying a microfiber cloth around, I'd much rather just slap a protector on it and call it a day.
