Is that for stock kernel???
You can only install ics rom on stock kernel without serious bugs so it's better to try that.
++++if you can unlock bootloader you. Can install custom jellybean kernel & enjoy jb or ics without any problems

Because his phone's bootloader was not unlockable(or done steps wrong)
You phone's manufacturing date should be like this written on the back of the phone, on a white stick exactly)
10w20 or 10w21 ..... 11w19 ,11w27...
And should not be like thiswill hard brick)
11w28,11w29,11w30... 12w11 ...
(10=year2010 w=week 20=20'th week of the year)
There are tons of guides in x8 general discussion ...
You can start by using s1tools app(checking BL is unlockable or not) & flashtools for unlocking
If you get hard brick, you should pay up to 50usd for repairs .

There are some problem that causes custom rom cannot boot. I will state the problem but, you gonna go search it for yourself.
1.Busybox not correctly installed
2.Root incorrectly
3.Baseband incompatible
4.Rom need custom kernel to work (Extra care.)

Im guessing your coming from stock ,, so heres what you gotta do
if you bought the cell recently you don't need tio update your baseband,,
anyways heres what you must do
1. Root your phone
2.install xrecovery /Cwm
3.Move your desired rom to you memory cards,, not on any folder directly on the card
4. reboot and open xrecovery/Cwm(whichever the rom requires)
5.Data reset
6.Flash rom
anyways some roms require custom kernels in that case learn howto unlock your bootloader and flash the required custom kernel
and your good to go
Hit the thanks button if i helped

Okay now,
-root your phone(turn on usb debugging. don't remove usb yet)
-install busybox (don't remove usb yet)
-reboot your phone, if flash tool on PC showing busybox version : XXX XXX or whatever you are good to go if not, redo, (Problem in flashtool, driver or usb debugging not turned on)

Note: when busybox showing version, there's is no need to use seus to go back again. you may just pull out the battery(with usb unplugged), wait for 10 sec and turn on again. Experiment with installing xRecovery on phone boot-up and try again without using seus... and if you stuck on the sony ericsson logo, wait... then try lock your screen. if screen can be locked (turn dark) mean that your root+busybox are good but xRecovery are not, just try many times to get to it.... and if all those above is not working... search other dev or thread

ah, sorry to my previous post.... i wasn't read it carefully....
now that you can enter xRecovery/Cwm is good
now what you need is,
1. check the rom post for more info, if it says for custom kernel/alfs kernel/nAa kernel. Sorry you can't use this as your rom.(unlocking your bootloader will fix this issue. WARNING:It's dangerous, search )
2. Try flash my Fix for stock kernel and Fix for low performance at my post in dev section
3. Try full-wipe in every rom if you still have this problem

so as mine can any one know how to upgrade 11W42
it is probably the fact you need custom kernel. But before trying to unlock bootloader, turn phone off,, take back cover and battery off and check your phones date ie
10w56 or 11w34 etc

Not in some cases. Some DEVS put when to do full wipe. So it depends on what the installation instructions are

[Q] Problem with MiniCM7

After installing MiniCM7 and it's custom kernel I can't add most of the widgets I download via market. Out of 20 widgets only 1 shows up in widget list.
Is there any way to fix this or am I the only one who has come across this problem?
You moved the widgets to SD card?

Oh thanks, my apps install default to SD since X8-s internal memory is so small.

The best way I've found to free up memory taken by installed apps was to created a sd-ext partition. To easily create a sd-ext partition follow these instructions:
NOTE THAT THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON ALL PARTITIONS ON THE SD CARD - BACKUP THE SD CARD BEFORE DOING THIS IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR DATA
1. Reboot into recovery mode
2. Select the "advanced" option
3. Select the "Partition SD Card" option
4. You can now set the "Ext Size" for the sd-ext - I use "2048M" which works fine although if you have loads of free space you can select "4096M"
5. Next you'll see a "Swap Size" - After some research I found a swap drive isn't needed and will not really speed anything up (I am not using a swap drive but you may create one if you like - THIS WILL REDUCE THE LIFE OF YOUR SD CARD!)
6. Click next/OK until it starts the partition process - This will now create the sd-ext partition.
Once done I reccomend to clear all data (under mounts and storage, select format /system, format /data, format /cache). Then Come back out to main option list, select "wipe cache partition" and finally "wipe data/factory reset" as if you wer're flashing a new ROM).
Flash ROM and gapps-xxx - Reboot and enjoy!
Hope this helps!
NOTE:
If you decide to change ROMs in future, make sure you select "format /sd-ext" as part of the "clear all data" process.

You've encountered a brick. Now what you should do this is
Open PCC
DO NOT CONNECT YOUR PHONE YET
Under "Support Zone" , click on Start
Opt for "Phone Update Software" and click "Start"
It will complain that no phone is connected.
There'll be a "Repair Phone" option. Click that.
Just follow the steps in PCC. It will tell you how to connect your phone. Update , and in no time you'll get back to Stock ROM.
Re-root. Flash CWM

now that explain everything... you are probably flash rom witch is not compatible with stock kernel! if you can access xrecovery flash gingerdx v13, then you will get cwm recovery preinstalled in rom, then from cwm flash latest version of gingerdx! both version you can find here:
GingerDX v13

yeah
if you're backing up from old system and restore in a new system (ROM) you can got brick OR from new system to old system
so after flashing Kernel, you must backup first
factory reset
wipe battery stats , etc
finally flash ROM
then I think you can restore your data..
Flashtool helps when seus or pc companion does not... just select the firmware for your device and flash it. it always work.
Heres the gudie to use flsh tool.. download stock rom. Ftf file and..

You can use Flashtool to flash a stock ROM and act like nothing happened..
If you can still go to cwm by pressing back button while boot then you can get a rom that works on stock kernel on to your sd card and flash it or if u have back up then just reatore it..
Or
If u can't go to cwm then flash stock rom .Ftf file available in our development section and flash it..

[Q] [HELP] Problem Xperia X8 (ROMs, Xrecovery)

Greetings from Colombia. The post I translated with Google translator because not speak English. Hope is not a big problem and I hope I helped. Thanks again.
My problem is this. I have an Xperia X8 (E15i - 11w13) and a few days ago I returned my Xperia X8 to PC COMPANION Stock (Stock Firmware and Kernel) Then using the ROM: rDroid (The best ROM for me)
With my phone in stock. Decides to Flashing ...
+ Then I ROOT my phone with flashtool. All good up there.
+ I decided to install the xRecovery as always and installed (Copying 3 files to System / Bin with RootExplorer)
Restart .. And no, it did not work.
- Investigate and maybe he problem was the permissions. I repeated the process, modify permissions ... And no, it did not work
- Maybe it was the Busybox?. I repeated the process after installing Busybox from the Android Market ... And nothing
- So I thought ... and it decided to install the xRecovery Flashtool, I did and .. It worked!
Already with the xRecovery working and the new ROM on SD Card, decided Flashing.
+ Realize what Wipes and install the ROM ... There all good
+But when the cell lit New ROM test, shoot me Restarts every 10min, with a message in the notification bar that says: "It is safe to remove the SD"
+Or failed the internet or in the Market / Play Store (would not let me download any APP)
+Or And there did not return to take the ROM .. It was stuck on the logo of SONY
+Or And Not even let me enter the xRecovery
Then I play do ... TOTAL STOCK Back to PC Companion.
I returned to Perform ROOT process, Xrecovery (with Flashtool) ... All to Flash the ROM withthe rDroid Cel (The one I was using before the problem and it works excellent)
But what ... Again the same problem. The constant pulling reboot message "Safe to remove the SD"
So when I went back to try to get the xRecovery .. He returned and stayed stuck in the Logo of SE.
And I got to re-do?... Make PC STOCK TOTAL COMPANION :crying:
¡HELP ME!
hi. i understand that you don't speak english, and thanks for the effort in using translate, but i'm afraid i'm not sure i understand. are you experiencing a soft brick now? or is the sdcard error the issue?
if you have a soft brick (stuck in sony logo), try using seus instead of pcc if pcc doesn't work.
if you're experiencing the sdcard issue, backup your sdcard and reformat it. also, install cwm instead of xrecovery as some roms apparently do not support xrecov (i have not experienced it though).
also, are you on stock kernel? i'm not familiar with the rom you're using. or is your bootloader unlocked and you have a custom kernel? and what is the new rom you're trying to use?
Just because i don't doesn't mean i can't.
Just helping
if u want to fix the booloop (stuck at sony logo)
just flash the original firmware by flash tool
download here
and if u want to install custom rom
- Flash the kernel
- Full Wipe (dalvik cache and batery stats)
- Factory Reset
- Install ROM

Hello. Thanks for answering Cascabel.
But I had no brick problem, or soft or hard.
The phone works normally with the Stock ROM, but with a Custom ROM works but has problems (the same problem throughout the ROM I try)
Buy a New SD card (8GB Kingston) to see if the problem was on the sd card. And it still has the same problem with the new card

No. With STOCK ROM works perfectly, without any fail.

what ROM did you use? "Safe to remove SD" was a known bug in early days of Froyo/GB.

Good news, for now...
Thanks for your answers. Yesterday test a ROM (Xperia SOUL Engine Generation4) And so far not filed failures..
The problem of "Safe to remove SD" I had in GB (ROM android 2.3.5)
+I have to test what the Xrecovery. See if I work or if I presented another problem (When using xRecovery, pressing the back key and the phone would not start and it stuck in the logo of Sony Ericsson)

You don't test or mess xrecovery if you are in custom rom. You'll soft brick even you can boot up to xrecovery and xrec uses amend scripting so CWM in custom rom is the best. Xrec uses busybox and all custom rom can't update busybox.

Just use CWM
