I previously had the AT&T version of the One and the maximum MMS size was 1mb. Just received my Developer edition today and I noticed that the max MMS size is 300k, with no option to go higher.
Anyone know a way to get this increased? I'm not sure why they would limit the dev version more than the AT&T version. It's not a huge deal, but it will result in more compressed pictures sent through MMS and even smaller video clips.
So, either no one has any idea what I'm talking about, or no one cares. Excellent.
300K is the limit on mine as well w/ Telus (Canadian provider).
A google search brought me here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537304
It maybe that the 300k limit is not linked to your phone, but to the Message app. Try the link above and see if it works.

Thanks, dude, but that solution involves using a different SMS app. I actually want to stay stock. I just thought it was odd that the unlocked Developer edition would have such a small size limit. If anything, it should go higher than the carrier versions.
I'm sitting at UPS waiting for the driver to return with my One DE on board and I hate to find out about this. I'm using the AT&T One now and often send pics to customers and I don't like the sound of this. I know a rom can fix it but I want to stay stock and just root.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Since wireless tether works out of the box, I have no need or desire to root or install a custom rom. I send pics/videos to my girlfriend all the time and this will gimp the quality pretty bad thanks to the extreme level of compression involved.
Usually unlocked phones have more options. I'm not sure why they limited it to 300k.

Seemingly (from reads on XDA) the dev. version is just 64GB + unlocked. Nothing else is special about it (that we know of).
Again though, it seems as though the 300KB limit is tied to the Message app, so changing that out could fix it.
Same boat with the 32Gb model. I'm completely perplexed why HTC soul put this limitation on their unlocked/developer flagship smartphone!

Is there such a thing as a pocket size Android device that is not a phone - but has all the other features of a smartphone ?
In other words, a wifi-only Droid/Evo/Thunder/HD2 ?
I was struck by what someone said about the Nook Color, that they did not need the camera or the microphone, because their pocket phone has those things. I do not have a smartphone, because I do not want a big monthly data bill.
But I could use something that could scan UPC codes (or QR codes), take quick photos, and could do voice activated tasks that do not need the nice large screen of the Nook.
Thanks !

Maybe someone else can back me (or correct me) up on this as I'm just taking an educated guess here, but any deactivated phone would do this. If you're only looking for a wifi version, that is. You might wanna look into it more, but picking up an old Droid (probably pretty cheap) would work. You would have access to the market via wifi and all that.
yep get used droid, you can use its camera, gps, download textfree/pinger and get text messaging

If you want something radical try, www alwaysinnovating.com/products/minibook.htm
There is also the samsung galaxy pmps, www linuxfordevices.com/c/a/News/Samsung-Galaxy-Player-4-and-5/
Also look at Archos, but their smaller units tend to be resistive touch screens so check the descriptions well.
And finally a google search for 'android pmp camera' should turn up a couple hits.

This is my thinking on the matter, too and is the reason why I still use a cheap Chinese Windows Mobile 2G clone phone through T-mobile. However, I've noticed that Phone companies are starting to roll out small data plans for about $10.00 a month. That might be enough to get me to finally buy a smart phone, given that I'd mostly use WiFi for data.
Once tethering plans become affordable I'll probably go with that, but I'm talking $15.00 a month on top for data & tethering, and who knows when (or if) prices will ever reach that level (especially with AT&T swallowing up T-Mobile... yaaay, go duopoly!)
Samsung is making one galaxy player I think its going to be called

I am now looking into this, there are lots of Droids on ebay.
I assume that "BAD ESN" only matters if you are going to use it as a cell phone, and for Wifi use, it would not matter ?
Also, I noticed in the completed listings that some with cracked screens sold for just as much as ones without flaws. Why is this ? Is there some easy way to get the screen fixed ? (Just curious on this one.)
Hi does anyone have the original phone.apk for optus phones in aus?
I wanted to see if the voice service was voip over 3g or not and I deleted the file (It said it backed up but here i am)
Also does anyone know for sure if Optus in Aus are using voip? cheers
hey, i'm woth optus au. You can just use and gsm dialer.apk from what I understand. For example i'm using the Overcome ROM and its included apk for all my dialing requirements.
As to Optus useing VOIP over 3g for all your calls and then charging you @ phone call rates that wouldn't make much sense to me. I suspect it would ineffective cost wise, technicly difficult to say the least and would not comply with our consumer laws.. What put yuou this misguided path my fellow Aussie??
I should qualify that, and correct myself, by saying that i use an Optus Tab. Long story short they unlocked it and i now use my Vodafone sim in it. I guess the Data plan they offer the tab on with the $10 worth of calls could use VOIP but i would still be surprised if it where the case. How would they control it?? through the dialer.apk you say, well wouldn't it then attempt to use voip when i put my voda sim in? I really can't say for sure but i'm very strongly leaning to no they don't use voip.
I was placed on this path by optus

Fair suck of the sav oi oi oi
Yeah actually it was optus, they wanted to charge me an extra $10 to get my tab to use voip - per month....
Then I complained about the issues with voip over 3g and the lady said "oh wait there might be a way to give you 3g but i'm not sure" wankety wank
So I started watching the data with wireshark and there was indeed data on my interface. However technically everything can be data so it doesn't confirm what I suspect....
So two things - I would like to know if there is an original optus 2.2 stock rom so I cleanly re-Bloat and reboot or if anyone could pm me the phone2.2.apk that would be cool (just so i can restore it to day one condition if I ever need to cheers
Sorry, but also does anyone know which interface I should be looking at ? Even my contract says the tablet "may only be used for optus data" Or better yet can someone explain it briefly
cheers
and many thanks

First I have to post off to My Carrier

Yes it's true she's been baked for a few days however she's covered both under warranty and also under our laws........
Which means because I was sold a "Phone" it even has a phone widget on the cover of the box, but any sold a phone and so it was kind of misleading ....
long story short... I can buy a tab outright and not have to worry 'bout bl#$&*()^ carriers.... I intend to use mainly wifi, and besides my kids are addicited to the tab.......
Hey here's an idea... If i can get a hold of one asap I'll dump the stock rom and post it if thats o.k.
i remember some time ago, someone developed an app or program to install on the phone that tricks t-mo into how much usage you actually use. He had a screenshot of over 10GB of data used without being throttled. I searched but cant find and wonder if anyone knows where it is or can link me and does it work?
I don't think anyone here will/should aid you openly in circumventing TMO's data usage regulations--
this was a thread posted on XDA with many replies and views. I dont think T-Mobile should throttle my unlimited plan either
I do remember that thread but just use Google, found a few diffrent places with step by step how to
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
When I was back in the states for a month, I brought my T-MO account out of suspension. I was under the impression I had an unlimited account (as that is what was listed on the website). It turns out that it was limited to 5GB. Well, I didn't find that out until half-way through the month when I got a text saying they were going to throttle my speeds. I wasn't too happy about it, and I called customer service to complain and find out what my options were. My only option was to switch to another plan that required a new 2 year contract and then pay an extra obscene amount to get data past the 5GB point. I wasn't pleased when I hung up the phone.
Lo and behold, next time I need to use the internet with my laptop (my only internet access was through tethering), I found my speeds were not throttled. I guess T-MO uses software on the phone to actually do the throttling rather than something network-side. By the end of the month, I had used 8GB (which I didn't feel bad about considering my plan was advertised as unlimited).
Anyway, moral of the story: CM7 doesn't seem to be affected by throttling with T-Mobile US (as of June/July 2011).

That is over 9000% wrong.
If you didn't know about the fine print that is your own fault and while it may be a little misleading it is in fact unlimited, just at a slower speed >5gb.
Been on T Mo for years. They implemented this what, a year ago. I'm well aware of it and am trying to hook someone up. First post attacked me as if it wasn't on this site somewhere when in fact it is or was for a while. I know how things work around here.... somewhat ...lol
Sent from my Nexus One
I wasn't attacking you on being incorrect about the thread. I remember it also. I was commenting on what I perceived (correct me if wrong) was an app to cheat TMO out of it's ability to throttle speeds above 5gb.
I am totally against that policy, but respect their right to do it. I also find the ads misleading.
But, if the app does that, then it is, to me, like finding a way to make free long distance calls when your company charges for them.
An ethical question, if not illegal procedure.
So, my comment was saying I didn't think someone would help you do that.
Again, if I am wrong on the purpose of the app, sorry. If not, I stand by my opinion.

When I ordered the plan, they listed it as unlimited. When I viewed it on the site, it didn't have a data counter near it, it just said unlimited. So there wasn't even a way to see how close to the 5GBs I was getting. And I am not going to read through 30 pages of fine print just because they want people to think they have an unlimited plan (which as you state, is unlimited, just at a slower speed).
If they had let me know I had a 5GB cap before my speeds would be throttled, I would've totally changed my habits to prevent me from ever reaching that (I had downloaded an ubuntu ISO for a friend while we were out and about - definitely could've waited until I got to an area with wifi, had I known). I had no intention to go over, but when they try and mask what their plans are, how are we supposed to know unless we are lawyers and are able to understand their fine print.
Now that I know what my limits are, I won't ever reach them again. But do I feel bad for hitting their limits and then being able to go over them because I was running CM since they do their best to keep that information hidden? Absolutely not!

FYI: You just defined limited.
I live in a big city, so I'm never going to hit my 5GB or 2 or whatever it is this week, mostly because the 3G speeds are horrible here and WiFi is everywhere.
My complaint is that T-Mobile implemented a fundamental change to a service that is locked into a contract and they won't let you out of it.

It's a speed limit, not a data limit. Unlimited data is unlimited.
from what i been searching around the internet, it all points to editing the services.jar to achieve this.
i havent found anything about an app to do something like this yet, so i wouldnt be so sure if there is.
but something like this in general would be nice to have just to get alittle more speed than was intended for

I use to have a htc g2 with a $50 dollar prepaid plan witch only give me 100mb 4g data speed
after I root my phone I also flash the HBOOT from the European phone htc dezire z after I did this I use all 4g I want and tmobile does not detect my data usage but this only works with wap.voicestream.com apn not epc you have to delete all default apn and create a new one with wap apn
now this seems to work only on htc g2 because I upgrade my phone to sensation 4g I root this phone flash radios, roms use different apn nothing works on this phone tmobile detect my 4g data use.....
To make a long story short, I've destroyed my HTC One XL that I bought for AT&T and I still have 5 months until I am eligible for upgrade. Out of desperation I purchased a factory unlocked HTC One (M7) via Amazon and it was apparently through a third party market place seller.
The phone's packaging, images etc., is completely in Spanish, listed as made in China, running the IMEI(on the box) through an info database it lists the model as the 801e, primary reporting body is BABT and it appears to be valid.
My questions are as follows:
1.) Assuming this is the 801e and M7_U model and not a US/English region phone based on the language clues, what problems will I have running this thing in the US on the AT&T and/or other carrier networks? Obviously there will be no LTE, but will it even work/activate at all once I put my AT&T Sim in? I'm assuming I can change the language. I am in the US in case that wasn't obvious already.
2.) What issues may I have further down the line regarding software/firmware updates etc.
Basically, I have a short time window to return this thing. Since I am in dire need of a phone and am already out a ton of cash trying to fix the one I have so I can't really afford to keep playing around with things. More than likely I'll have to pay a restocking fee for it even though it wasn't opened and who knows how long for the refund to go through.
So any advice? I guess I'm a bit of a rookie...

Fair enough. Thanks again. I guess my real concern was whether or not the IMEI would register/work with my carrier here in the US. I've owned several unlocked phones over the years, but this is the first time I ever received one where it was in a completely different language/region thus the cause for my concern.
Well I bit the bullet and opened it and am currently using it. So far so good, well despite that it's only 3G. To further feed my morbid curiousity regarding my rampant paranoia, any surefire ways to determine if it is a fake? So far screenshot images are 1080x1920, camera is fluuid and image sizes are 2688x1520, both work and are quite loud, phone feels heavy but I have nothing to compare it to. Can't really tell if case is plastic or aluminum I guess I'll go have to check one in a store for that. Am I missing anything?

Long story but anyways...I am heading out of town this weekend so I need to unlock/root and be able to activate hotspot (still have unlimited). Thanks. Sorry will be at work late tonight and tomorrow so my time is limited to research out my answers...
Download the [tool kit] in original development forum.
Read instructions while it downloads.
Then run it.
It basically walks you through the steps.
There are YouTube videos as well.
As for the hot spot and stock android... I highly recommend flashing chroma.
Better than stock, while still being as stock as stockly possible. Haha.
You won't regret it.
Hotspot should be working out of the box there.

for free wifi hotspot, please see the below (website http://pocketnow.com/2015/01/01/nexus-6-tethering). This works on the stock rom and is what I did. It works with verizon also as that is what I use. I believe it requires root though.
build.prop
Some are reporting that the change above doesn’t work all the time, and may not work with AT&T. If that describes you, modify your build.prop file.
Modifying system files could render your device useless, so by continuing you’re assuming that risk
Since this involves working around a carrier setting, you also need to make sure that your plan doesn’t prohibit you to tether (Note: your plan doesn’t have specifically allow you to tether, it just has to not prohibit you from doing so)
Using a root file explorer, navigate to /system/
(Optional) Make a copy of the build.prop
Open the build.prop file with a text editor
Add the following line to the bottom of build.prop file: net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Save the file and reboot your device
Hot spot works with stock android no issues. I'm on Verizon and had to use it this week while our home mediacom Internet was down.

Like most providers, they'll justify it by 1 phone streaming and normal use will be acceptable usage, but with tethering, you can connect 1 or more computers which traditionally can and will use much more data, saturating their network beyond it's capabilities.
Personally I think it's fair enough, though US carriers do seem to expect you to sell a kidney to get a phone contract anyway.
