Wake-lock - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Is anybody else having a TON of wakelock from:
msm_hsic_host
and some HTC weather sync junk
I have removed HTC from accounts on the phone, and disabled sync for news, weather, etc.
I am really loving this phone so far! Great finish, great screen, cool features. I had been running CM10.1 for a while on my Evo3D, and really Sense 5 isn't so bad. I think a nice slim Sense ROM will be killer on this phone.

It doesn't seem to be happening at home on Wifi. Just when I was out today on 3G/4G.

Nobody else?
Msm_hsic_host was still keeping the phone awake last night, while sleeping on WiFi.

[Q] Lost 30% of battery in 2 hrs.

Is this kind of performance normal with Android?
What ROM are you running?
How much were you using it?
How many Widgets are you running?
I know I'm running an OC i9000 kernel with a live wallpaper - so my battery life is pretty horrid.
And if your coming from a non-android phone? The battery life will be a lot worse then what you are used to. Between the AMOLED screen and if your running a custom ROM battery life will get worse.
What ROM are you running?
- Cognition.v2.3b8/Launcher Pro
How much were you using it?
- moderately
How many Widgets are you running?
- Beautiful Widgets (Weather/Time), Google Search, Google Voice, Launcher Pro Calendar
And if your coming from a non-android phone?
- Came from iPhone 3G
Other Apps: Lookout, tasker, advanced task manager

One suggestion: You don't need ATM. Android can manager the memory quite well.
And no, this performance is NOT normal. Did u try recalibrating the battery?
Yup.. loose the task killers/task managers - that will cause you more battery woes than anything. Especially if it's trying to kill a task/application that just sit there and restarts - causing a nice infinite loop of battery death
I came from a 3G as well. Had to re-think on how to use my phone. The greatest thing about Android and its hugest fault.. is you have to manage everything yourself pretty much.
I would suggest turning off basic processes while not in use (wireless, GPS, and even synching)
Also dimming the screen even just a little bit will help.
Beware that most of the ROM's out today (including Cognition unfort) are terrible with battery life. Most of it is related to i9000 ROMs being on Captivate devices and are horrid at power management.
BUT.... even if you were on a Stock ROM you will notice less than stellar battery life with your device vs. the 3G.
I am experiencing similar shock to X10D3. I am coming from an iPhone 3G with my work email being pushed. I am currently running Assonance 5.0 with my work email still being pushed. I wiped battery stats using clockworkmod, turned brightness to minimum, have removed the calendar and news & weather widgets, so that the only widget I have is picture frame (and it is not running on the main screen). Additionally, I changed my wallpaper to a near-black one and only have 4 icons on my homescreen. I also keep wifi, BT, and location services turned off.
I am currently at 88% after being unplugged for about 2 hours. All I've done on my phone is play Word Feud for 5 minutes, check my flight on FlightView, and read a few emails.
With my iPhone 3G, I could have easily gone an entire day without having to plug my phone in. However, with the Captivate, I find myself having to plug in after 12-15 hours, even with what I consider to be pretty moderate use.
One thing that was mentioned is that these custom ROMS tend to be battery hogs. Would I be better off (battery-wise) running the stock 2.1 that came with my Captivate? How about if I ran 2.1 but just rooted the phone to eliminate all of the AT&T bloatware that may be running in the background?

On a day of moderate usage with about 1-2 hours calls and about 1-2 hours screen being on, system up time at about 12 hours, I have my battery at about 50-60% by the time I am home in the evening. I talk on phone on my car bluetooth most of the time.
I have two gmail accounts set to push, and google voice set to push all the time.
Auto-sync is constantly on.
Brightness set to minimum since I am not in sun most of the time.
No task killers installed, nor have any CPU speed reducers or anything like that.
But one thing, since I don't stream data so heavy (EDGE is fine for my email/xda/chatting), I am on EDGE all the time.
The ROM I am using is in my signature.
EDIT:
My phone stats today till this minute
Time since off charger: 5 hours 30 min
Calls: 29 min 2 sec on bluetooth (I turn bluetooth off when I am not in my car)
Display on: 1 hour 25 min
Sync accounts: 2 gmail, 1 google voice
Weather widget set to refresh every 4 hours
Brightness: 0%
Network: EDGE
Battery at: 70%

[Q] Does this battery life look reasonable to you guys?

Running CM7 nightly build 7 here are some screenshots.
This is pretty typical of the use I've got under CM6, it's just the built in monitoring tools are better.
Well, what do you think?
That's looks good ... I've only owned my nexus for 4 hour hopefully mine is like that

.45% of battery per minute of voice calls.
So why is it showing that your phone is awake (guessing) 80% of the time? You might want to look at the Partial Wake Lock information to see what's keeping it awake.
Otherwise, 12 hours or so on a charge if you're using it for syncing email, im, and/or social media stuff and actually using the phone is pretty reasonable.
I get about 14 hours out of mine on a typical workday if I'm busy and don't play with it much. K9 Mail has idle IMAP going all day, syncing Google cal, 3g, two weather apps updating (Beautiful and Weather Bug, I like both ) etc.. If I use it NONE, like super busy at work, it'll go all day and I just charge it before bed time, so around 15-16 hours.
Using Enom, per my signature.
thats not too bad for medium usage. i get a lot of time under awake like your screenshots show, sometimes more. I tried to narrow down what was keeping it awake but cant figure it out. the highest thing listed under partial wake locks is typically android system. I am thinking it is either exchange or trillian, but i think last time i tested removing all of my accounts it didnt make a difference.
seems pretty good to me. one thing to look at is amount of time the screen was on, since that is always the biggest power draw. i usually make it 8 hours on a charge, with, say, 3.5 hours of screen on time. that's the most important thing to look at.

I have no idea why it's awake all the time. This is strictly Gmail sync and i guess facebook (I'm not a heavy user at all).
3G and beautiful weather are on, but BW only updates every 2 hours.
It's just a shame that the battery life is so much worse than my iPhone 4 (Doing the same things). Not trying to start problems, i'm obviously using this one
I'd love
to get 11 hours out of my battery

[Q] Best settings for optimal battery life?

Hey,
What would be the best settings for optimal battery life?
- Brightness: I set backlight to +/- 50% in the menu. I disabled auto-backlight as I like my screen brighter generally.
- Screen lock: I set 2 minutes.
- Exchange: I have my work e-mail connected through Exchange. I just set the "Peak times" setting. I normally don't receive e-mails after work or during weekends, will that make a big difference?
- E-mail: I have (obviously) a Gmail account, however I do not use it for e-mails, I have one almost only because of the Market and other Google services. Can we disable push Gmail? I looked into the Gmail app and into Accounts and Sync and couldn't find anything, unless I missed something. I use mainly my (sigh) Hotmail account through the Hotmail app. I set it to update every hour.
- Facebook: I have initially synced my phone contacts with Facebook, but don't require update the minute a change is made. I set the refresh interval at 4 hours.
- "Always-on mobile data": Not exactly sure what this is, can anyone clarify? If that matters, I usually disable LTE as it's a battery-drainer and I don't necessarily need that much speed; HSPA+ is more than enough for me.
- Location Services: I turned everything off. I hate "checking-in" somewhere and barely use Google Maps/Navigation. I usually enable and disable when needed.
Can I change anything else to get a better battery life? I LOVE my Raider, but the battery has to be the worst I have ever experienced.
Thanks for your help!
I have the same settings but the exchange and the brightness (which is set to auto) plus location on. I get about 10 hours of use till the battery hits ~15% with 2 hours of screen time. I can't call it awful because I don't need more than that, as I charge it every night.
Unless you have a widget or an app that drains it really bad or you need more juice, I would suggest to keep the settings you like/want/need and get an extended battery.

Sharing my settings
I usually have the following settings:
- Turn on Wifi, GPS Satellites, Mobile Network only when I need them.
- Use less widgets
- Sound: Disable Quiet ring on pickup, pocket mode, flip for speaker, vibrate feedback
- Display: Sleep 30 seconds, brightness 45% is good for me
- Account & Sync: I disabled the accounts I don't use (News, Stocks...)
- Disabled keyboard key vibration
hope it helps and apologies if any of this is abvious
Haven't thought about the keyboard feedback, I assume it'll make some sort of difference. I'll try it out.
I don't make/receive that many phone calls, so I can definitely live without the "flip for speaker" and "pocket modes".
Silly question: I've returned my phone back to stock Rogers through the RUU last night as I need to send the phone in for a faulty headphone jack (had unlocked bootloader + running RumRaider Beta 11), and I noticed the battery was significantly better today with it than when I was running RumRaider. Using the same widgets on my home screens, same accounts (Exchange, Hotmail, Facebook, etc), mostly same settings.
I even forgot to turn off LTE so it has been on all day (don't get LTE in the office, I guess it's been searching for it all the time?) and even with it on, battery was better. Can a ROM affect battery life that much? Can it have something to do with the kernel or anything like that?
I sound a bit n00b, my apologies lol I know how to unlock a bootloader, how to flash a recovery, flash a ROM, and I understand the concept of the inwards of a phone like a Raider, but I'm unsure how software can affect hardware (i.e. the battery).
Anyway, I'll tweak the settings a bit as per your recommendations guys and see how it goes from there!
(P.S.: I'll miss my Raider as of next Friday, I'll have a BB Bold 9000 w/o a data plan for 2+ weeks...)

If the phone is over clocked or the gpu is messed with, it can change your battery life for the better or worse. Not sure about RumRaider settings so can't tell you why you got bad battery life out of it.

I have the HTC clock w/ weather but it's disabled in Accounts and Sync + location is off, so it really is just for the actual clock. I have the music one, e-mail, calendar, SMS.

Well, the clock one would if you had it enabled with location, check weather when screen unlocked, etc. Email would be a battery abuser if you had it check for email and send it to you every time you got one.

it's the same thing like laptops as well... some apps are either poorly developed or they just use more processing power (or other resources like GPS, bluetooth...). and the more processing power is used, the more battery power it consumes.
you can always check the battery information under settings, and see what consumes your battery the most. (Settings > Power > Battery Use)
Mine is consumed by Screen, Wi-Fi, Cell Standby, Phone idle,...)
you can get programs to analyse it, and give you more info on apps and their battery consumption.
I found Wi-Fi consumes much less power than mobile network. When leaving the phone connected to Wi-Fi over the weekend with a few texting and moderate email internet browsing, I got 24h and still 53% remaining.
BTW I have two Google accounts synching and one voip app always running. Brightness is around 20%.

Fighting Wakelocks all day long !

I honestly thought that Android was better, when going away from iPhone last monday.... Have had 6 iphones during the last 5 years, NEVER had problems with battery because of GPS, WIFI or 3G being ON all the time...
I got the HTC One, setup all accounts, synced and transfered as much data i could from my iPhone and was finished the same day.
Charged the phone 100% and unplugged it, slept 7 hours and found out to my horror that 30% of the battery had vanished through the night !!!!!!
6-7 days later I kind of know what the real problem is.
- It's not the fact that Wifi, 3G or GPS is ON in the settings
- It's not the CPU that works all the time
- It's not because of syncronization
it all those f*cking WakeLocks !
Apps that wants to retrieve notifications,
Apps that wants to update my location using location services
Apps that want to access the internet and do updates...
WakeLocks as they are called...
Why the hell can't Android OS manage all these WakeLocks while sleeping / off / idle ?? it's mind boggling how bad Android OS is, compared to IOS, when it comes to managing background services and data connections.
Facebook, Google+, GoogleMaps, Music, News & Weather, BlinkFeed, Email... they all suck power ALL THE TIME ! unless you disable notification and interval updates...
Anyone else than me fighting WakeLocks to get better standby times ?
Anyone else that feels the same way - that Android kind of sucks at background services ?
After 7 days - i think i nailed all the power-suckers... i hope my 2nd week with an Android will be a better experience than my first (Phone in charger almost all the time)
ps. Why the F*** does this phone charge so slow ? 5 hours is ridiculous !!!

Nope, Android is awesome at managing background services because multitasking is what Android was built to do, whereas the iPhone was really built to do one thing at a time. Grant you, that one thing was really well executed but one thing at a time nonetheless. And yes, I'm aware that iOS5 added the ability to multitask, but it's not the same as you're experiencing.
By the way, we're going to define some terms here because they're different on Android and iOS. Android apps don't "retrieve notifications," they sync in the background. Every app that you download you can adjust it's sync times or what to sync. There are apps out there that can help automatically set your sync settings based on how you use the phone; for instance, there's one by Qualcomm called Snapdragon BatteryGuru. Another that's been highly recommended is Greenify. I'm more familiar with BatteryGuru, though. You can set it to turn off ALL APP SYNCs while the phone is idle/sleep, or even the data connection all together(although the HTC One has this feature enabled by default).
You need to adjust your battery life expectations as well. I had an iPhone 5 before I switched to the Droid DNA, then finally to the HTC One. I could easily get 16-24hrs out of my iPhone 5. Aside from the Droid RAZR MAXX, I've never gotten that out of an Android phone. I know they work differently, and I'm okay with that because I like how Android retrieves and displays my information(largely, in widgets like Blinkfeed) as opposed to having to open an app and wait for it to load. I'm pretty satisfied if I'm able to get 10-14hrs of usage time out of my Android phones. Your mileage may vary based on how you use the device, however. If you're not going to be able to come to terms with that, then I highly suggest you return to your iPhone or pick up an Android device with an enormous battery like the RAZR MAXX series or the Galaxy Note 2... or anything that has 3,000+mAH battery.
As for 5hr charge times: Are you charging with the OEM Charger or one from a carrier? I've gotten the fastest charges out of my AT&T branded charger and the HTC One's original charger. However, if I use a Samsung branded charger/cable and or a motorola charger/cable, much longer charging times.

The thing is... if you DO trim down all the WakeLocks, your HTC One will last just as long as the iPhone 4/5... although, you wont get as many notifications in the background and data wont get transfered while sleeping.
I'll check out the apps your mentioned - the abillity to specify when and how often programs are allowed to work while the phone is sleeping.
but doing nothing will simply drain the battery so fast that you might as well put a permanent charging cord into it !!
regarding charging: I've been using the HTC One charger that i got with it, as well as the large iPad charger and high powered USB ports, neither seems to charge faster than the other

Battery Stats - non rooted

Is the battery life really that good? I really can't get more than 2 hours of SCREEN time with broken use or 3 hours of concentrated use. The International had a thread about this, but those are GSM and running custom ROMs and kernels.
Post your crazy good (or bad) battery Stats here with setups and sync settings. Stock non Rooted preferred, but maybe someone here can convince me to root my phone again!
I'm having the same problem
I'm currently rooted running d3rp but when I've had it stock I get pretty great battery life. Definitely no complaints. Maybe a hardware issue with some phones?
I get about four hours on screen time. And twelve standby. It's enough to get me through the day, and I'm alright with that.

I uninstall everything I don't use (Facebook, Twitter, chrome, ect), turn off auto sync, I'm also on the experimental x kernel, unlocked to 1.5ghz, under volted, and have thermal throttling set to the highest (coolest?) HTC took it out of the stock settings, the only way to see is with a battery monitor like better battery stats.

Is Gsam a good monitor? I have power saver off (I see no real difference in battery life) but the screen uses like a maximum of 10% of my power. The kernel uses like 25%. Apps account for 75% of battery usage.
You've probably already searched some if you're asking, but I wanted to make sure you have seen this thread:

It includes my tip that turned me from disappointed w/ battery life to impressed. (By setting every social app, blink feed, weather, (but not calendar, gmail, or other google services)) to manual sync... and my phone lives most of its life in below average signal strength areas.
Otherwise, I'm running non-rooted, stock, and no battery tweaking apps, or memory freeing apps, etc.

How do I make sure only my google stuff auto syncs? I could care less about the main facebook app. (I need the messenger though, lol).
If I uncheck everything in the Facebook section of Accts and Sync, will it sync at all? Like, when I run the app?
But if GSam is right, then my main problem is the Android Os and kernel. Together, they eat up about 30% of my battery, sometimes more.

Yeah, that's it, you got it. Settings > Accounts and Sync.
My theory was the phone would never be able to turn itself down to a lower power state since one thing or another would always be keeping the data connection active. Used to barely clear 1 day, and now 2 is no problem.
Apps with sync off just update when you open them. Made sense to me!
Good luck.
I have wifi always on with "data connection" unticked and "Sleep mode" ticked because I seen this from htc's website "Keep in mind though that the Sleep mode option for the data connection in Settings > Power, when enabled, overrides power saver mode." Here are some screen shots my brightness is manually set at 20%.
