i9000m fail - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the downloading screen on my phone. When I turn the phone off I get the boot up screen and then you guessed it... I have not been able to use my phone since something went horribly wrong i think.
happened while trying this method [found bellow]
Heimdall Frontend-flash- boot, and sbl {both .bin files....
-.-
No luck with system restore either....I'm looking for a diagnostic as well as a solution to my problem.
Update; Odin up and running, and flashing STOCK Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 firmware as we speak...hope this turns out alright...
Update#2. phone has been flashed to stock settings and I can now log on again! woohoo! now to re-root then apply changes to unlock the SIM block.
Another progress update!
Kudos to all who've been following my progress thus far. I have rooted the device and am now just taking a look at a few acute errors such as Superuser binary update error(s) like;
Copying su to /system... fail!
and installing Superuser...in system reboot loading screen I get;
E: signature verifacation FAILED
so If I can twist the qwirks to finally get this fully loaded 3 day process finished-
I will be super happy.
Something tells me I might be back at figuring out the boot.bin and sbl.bin files soon to find out how they truly work.
w.e. happens I'll keep you posted
Jake
I did it! Phone is now unlocked and works too! Plus got details of how I can maintain phone warranty whilst I tinker around! Went through hell and came back in the last 3 days! I must say hats off to the developers here at XDA. Many many many of you have helped me alot!#Thank-You Soo Much!
Now I'm going to bump that OS to Jelly Bean!

thanks
I have also had this problem. but now the problem is fixed, manny thanks for the XDA people. :good:

[Q] SGS user urgently need help!!

Firstly guys, I'd like to apologise for this being my first post. I'm usually a regular over at the SGS forums but am yet to have had a response. I'm ****ting bricks currently, so here goes...
ARGH wtf. Just as I thought I had the perfect phone, it messes up! Darky's ROM went mad on me. Kept rebooting the phone. Kept vibrating throughout. No idea what's wrong with it. Tried to do a wipe install of the ROM again, but the bloody thing has disappeared from the SD card! What am I going to do now? Reflash back to my previous firmware and start all over again, AGAIN? Ffs.
Just for the record, I'm basically stuck in recovery mode. It's either that or staring at the Nexus S logo as it attempts to boot, over and over and over... I'm so angry right now! I didn't do anything to the phone for this to happen! Bad luck or what. Really hope there is a solution to this. I don't suppose there's anyway of accessing the device's SD memory when in recovery mode? I just need to plant the update.zip on the SD card again so I can reflash it!

I would massively massively appreciate any help you guys could give me. I've had nothing but bad luck with my Galaxy S
[EDIT] Oh and by the way, I still have full access to my three-button combo modes. Clockwork recovery console and Download mode still fully accessible.
Hi
I'm also new here and got my SGS yesterday, but i had a HTC Desire before.
If you can get in to Clockworkmod recovery you should be able to push the file via adb to the sdcard. That was possible on the Desire at least.

Hey there, thanks for your response! What may I ask is 'adb'?
Android development....something
Just flash back to eclair again. The time it took you to get an answer on a forum is longer tham the time it takes to flash.

I'm guessing you screwed up without diabling lagfixes or something, just install JM8 with repartition enabled and using pit 512 file again then install clockwork update.zip then install whatever rom (but in this case darkys). It starts to become habbit when testing new roms to do all of them steps, The first time something happens you **** bricks but soon relize the SGS is alot more brick poof then you think (unless you are one of the poor souls with broken recovery modes)
But anyways, calm the hell down. Everything is fine.

I've absolutely no idea what files to flash... I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to flashing with the SGS. Quite embarrassing actually because I used to flash my old Omnia HD with no problems whatsoever! Don't suppose you could link to files.
Don't worry, your Galaxy is not bricked. Please see here how to reflash from a PC.
I've downloaded all necessary files... I've got a CODE a MODEM the 512.pit but no CSC? Am I okay to flash with no CSC?

CSC contains all carrier-related (like APNs) data.
Depending on the type of packaging some CODE files are complete with CSC.
In any case, you can flash a CSC (like ITV or XEU) even later.
Before to go with flash, I'd like to advise you to backup /efs folder on your SD and/or your PC. This is the only folder with information (like your IMEI configuration) that cannot be recovered in case of a total data loss.
After a long gruelling process of flashing and reflashing, I'm back on Darky's ROM. Problem though - App market is messed up. I can't download anything from the Market and it's also the 'old' Market theme... I think has something to do with the fact that I've flashed from Eclair straight to Darky's? (Which I was advised to do...) - How can I get my Market working again?! Everything is fine besides that!
[EDIT] I now have the new market interface but still cannot download a thing!

Flashing Errors

I have done many searches trying to find the answer but I haven't found an answer that I thought explained it. Some people have said that the file downloaded incorrectly and I should just re-download the ROM again. I have flashed many ROMs such as Cog, Perception, Phoenix, FF, SN and for every one of my flashes I have gotten one of these errors at least once.
I have flashed back to stock, master cleared, fixed permissions, flashed over ROMs without doing those steps and I still get at least one of these:
E: Can't symlink /system/bin/cat
E: Failure a lin 7:
symlink toolbox SYSTEM:bin/cat
installation aborted
E: Can't chown/mod /system/xbin/su
(no such file or directory)
E: Failure at line 71:
set_perm 0 0 04755 SYSTEM:xbin/su
Installation aborted
I have started putting 3 to 4 .zip files on my phone before I try to flash to save me from having to flash back to stock. I would just like to know if there was any way to do something about this on my end so my flashing time doesn't take an hour or more instead of a few minutes.
Quick question you are using cwm to flash and not stock recovery
[ROM] Precision 3.5 [Kernel] Suckerpunch #51
I am using cwm
Wow dude i have the SAME exactly problem and no one can help me! This all started cause i tried the cog4 rom and my phone has been ****ed ever since! Wont install any roms, all symlink errors, and now i can't even get it to restore a backup. It will successfully restore but upon reboot it just goes back to stock recovery UGH. I just want my phone back! And yes i am doing odin and master clear EVERY SINGLE TIME. Have downloaded each rom file over 10 times each. This is killing me!

I actually just responded to the thread you started before I noticed that you replied to mine. I just suggested that you download some more files but it seems like you have done that already.
If someone with knowledge would just PLEASE read this they can fix this for us. I found someone with the same problem, just different phone. They fixed it! We just need someone with the know-how to convert the directions into how you would do the same things on our phones...

PLEASE PLEASE GUYS HELP
You will need to flash back to stock. Odin 1-Click should do the trick, however you should Master Clear BEFORE you start flashing the stock ROM. The idea is to wipe the card of any inconsistencies in file system structure; sometimes parts can still be in Ext4 (even after 'unlagfixing') when other partitions are back to rfs.
I'd try that. I had a devil of a time with the same issue and after a lot of troubleshooting this worked for me.
Good luck!

I have flashed back to stock with one click odin, 3 button odin, and every odin ever made(exaggerating) probably 40-50 times today . I have master cleared before flashing, after flashing. I have re-partitioned. I have fixed permissions. I have done all of the above in every order imaginable.
I have also tried to install over 5 different roms. This all started whenever i flashed the cog4 that was ORIGINALLY posted yseterday. It had a line 15 error and apparently a wrong kernel. Ever since my phone has never been the same. It must have really ****ed something up.
After reading all night...this is NOT exclusive to the captivate. This has happened to just about every android phone out there. And every topic in existence ends up dying and no one ever gives a solution. Most point to the system partition being full, and it messing up and thats why it's not able to symlink. Others say apps2sd being built in a rom can do that. ONE guy did the rm wipe system thing through adb and got it to work. Please guys HELP PLEASE. My phone is absolutely useless right now being able to run nothing but stock. PLEASE.
I am trying to do a rm -rf /system in an root adb shell in recovery. It always says device is busy. Any ideas!?
Sorry, wrong thread. Ignore me.
Dam thought we were finally getting some help!

[Q] Bionic won't flash correctly

Hi all,
My Bionic is having a bit of a tiff that I feel like I've searched for days for an answer. I was rooted and lost root at random w/o flashing or updating the system at all!
Firstly I'll post my system information:
System Version: 5.9.901.XT875.Verizon.en.US
Baseband Version: Unknown
Webtop Version: (Okay this one is tricky...) Its got 1 square symbol then ELF then 3 more squares ... a bunch of random spaces with a A and 2 4's......
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-g83f1a47
[email protected] #1
Mind you I have tried the one click methods and manual operation of those methods both to no success. It even says successful in AP Fastboot mode and in command prompt but everytime I restart my phone it is in EXACTLY the same state (also carries over if I uninstall an app and restart the phone).
Also when using the one click method it proceeds to push everything but only after saying Error: Device not found
Formating Internal Storage doesn't work either... for some reason it keeps restoring everything (to the .901 messed up state it's in) EVEN if i delete the WHOLE contents of the SD card over USB on my desktop... I'm REALLY at a loss... I also went through an entire FXZ flash with no errors and it still stayed in exactly the same condition with no changes...
ANY help with this would be MUCH appreciated
Thanks!
Have you tried this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427945
Follow those instruction to the 'T' and it should work. (Credit to the OP)
I did this probably 10 times this past weekend and got the phone down to .886 then was able to apply 43v3r root and update to .901. I flashed a .901 compatible rom and it brought me back to .894. i will probably re-flash later.
One thing to remember, charge your battery to 100% before proceeding because the flashing process uses your battery even when plugged into USB.
Good luck and set aside a night to do this.

Thanks for the reply! I tried this before and when you posted I tried it again. Failed on recovery and booted into the EXACT same system (and EVERYTHING else for that matter) it had before... it's like I can't change a thing no matter how hard I try. I sent a PM to the OP of that link though, so hopefully he comes through !
No go.. I give up ... Best Advice don't freeze system apps, if you lose root you're screwed.... Verizon is going to warranty my Bionic and MOTO can suck it.

[Q] Seems like I have the first bricked note 3

So I was messing with the system permissions in Es file exolorer, when I accidently set everyrhing to 666. As soon as I hit back I knew I was done for. I started getting foce closes on everything. I reset the phone hoping I could factory reset and be ok; but it keeps looping back to recovery when I turn it on. Im not home/in front a computer right now....but it seems my only hope is odin with the root files. I havent been able to find a stock rom for this phone. Att sucks for locking the bootloader. I will be donating to the bounty when I get in the house.
Anyone have any suggestions or know where a stock rom is oosted?

go to root de la vega site, and download the root. there is an odin image there to restore you to stock. you are ok.
thanks
Thanks a lot. Finally home will try right now
NO GO
Ok so the root de la vega seems to have been taken down since there is a new method. And I cant find the firmware for our phones,
What will happen if I try to load a tmobile firmware to the phone?
At this point I think I have a brick and might try it.

First? No.
I bricked my phone well over 10 times already since the day got it. (Damn you framework-res.apk and androidpolicy.jar )
It's all part of the fun! Glad to hear you're back up and running.

Well, I've done it too, but mine brick is probably worse. I updated with OTA update, then attempted to root so I tried flashing the Odin inside the Vega package, just to find out the OTA patched the "holes", now I'm stuck at the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
So I tried the One Click from the Vega package, but it doesn't do it, it fails with write protect error.
Kies don't have emergency recovery either, and won't even recognize the device.
I'm thinking I have to wait for the actual updated one click comes out to fix it.
Please be warned, DON'T try it

There are quite a few of us in that situation. There are a number of people working on it. Hopefully something will come up soon. I wish AT&T would actually release official firmware for our phone through Kies. Would make the recovery process so much faster than having to wait for people to rip MJ5 and re-package it.
i get a black screen....Help
i went ahead and rooted with kingo and deleted some stuff in the system/app folder and now after reboot i get com.google.process.gapps, dropbox, setup wizard and chaton [ unfortunately process has stop ] and it goes into a reboot loop, i can stop the reboot loop when i reroot with kingo but then all i get is a black screen with no apps, launcher, no access to any applications other than the systems settings. Pls help...
fuuhhhh!!!
Me too - figured I'd wait a week before rooting, didn't even bothering to check xda, my bible on such matters, and her I am thinking I know better.
... neeeds me phooooooneeee!!!!!!!!

Stuck in bootloop after trying to update from SD. Please Help

Haven't received any updates since 1/2019 so I downloaded a file from a link on xda and tried to fix it myself. While trying to update from my SD, I received an error in recovery mode shortly after I started to flash the zip. Since I couldn't get the phone to boot up, I decided to factory reset and start all over but now I'm in bootloop. I'm an idiot. Thank you so much for any help! I tried to search for links here before posting but I'm on a really old phone now so am having a difficult go. I have a Verizon sm-960U. And I'm a newbie at this. I used to mess around with my nexus 6 a lil but that was years ago. Thanks again and I don't mind donating money to get the device back up and running.
After more research on yt, looks like I should install Odin and go from there. Will give that a try.
