I am one of them, who have lost root after jelly bean OTA update. I was tired of waiting for the root, so I decided to email Mr. Dan Rosenberg, the master of root exploits. And they replied me as following:-

No kidding. Installing updates always removes root access unless you
take steps to preserve it (OTA RootKeeper, etc.).

I think you mean "every Bionic owner who rooted their device and didn't
know enough to not preserve root through an update".

I might have a solution for you in the next few days, but I'm getting
tired of this game. Don't expect every build of every device to be
rootable. If you have root, make sure you take steps to ensure you can
keep it before installing an update.

Dan Retired!
Now we have the only hope from Dan, Let's see what happens.
All I can say is that since you had the balls to email him about root after he said he was going to retire, you'd better pony up a few dollars to donate to him when/if he does come through with Bionic JB Root.

Dan shouldn't have to help no one for nothing. And the only people he should ever consider helping is another dev so that his knowledge and skills lives on. For this person to email him is utter disrespect. Let the man be ffs.

I'm not counting on him to do it because he doesn't have to. I'm just curious as to how many people are halfway rooted and don't know it because root checker says they aren't but don't actually try any root apps. Root checker says I'm not but I'm still able to do many root activities.
But if someone was going to email home about it, they should have at least mentioned that voodoo was only working for some people and not for others.

Giant big balls to put it out there to him, so kudos for that. Very kind response all things considered. SamuriHL had a bit of a work around posted in another forum recently, that involved a hybrid flash using the House of Bionic suite. Wonder if it's based on that somehow. But I'll pony up dough for a root, no doubt.
Well, I wouldn't have emailed him direct (I'm sure he's busy with other things), but I'm also one who plans on donating if we get another exploit.

Just curious. I've had my Bionic for some time now and it is completely stock with the new JB OTA. I was thinking about rooting it for the first time. But, from what I am reading it seems like this would be impossible. Is this true?
Currently for you, yes. However in a few days there could a method to root jb released.

That's true, at this point. There is a root exploit that's currently being worked on that will hopefully make it possible in the near future. Be patient and read a lot.
The exploit had been confirmed by a trustworthy source, Samurai, he helped test it and was able to root his phone.
The exploit will be available later... Tonight?

When 5.5.893, 5.7.893, and 5.8.894 were leaked I jumped on the bandwagon and went to 5.7.893. Then we found out that 5.5.893 was going to be the official patch. And at that point none of us on 5.7.893 or 5.8.894 were on the OTA path anymore. No FXZ file existed back then and the method to put us back on the OTA path was literally just an idea at the time. Well, I wanted to do my part to help out so I jumped on trying to get my Bionic back on the path using the methods. *I* screwed up and ended up bricking my Bionic. For 36 hours I was completely screwed and VZW even offered to replace the phone under warranty even after they knew what I'd done to it. However, someone then posted a FXZ method and I was able to recover my Bionic and get it back on the OTA path. I returned the replacement without even opening it. It was an atypical experience for those off the path, but, with no method back right now, I'm going to wait until there is. Those who updated to the first leak are about to get a lesson in why patience is good with leaks on Moto phones. I feel for every single person and hope to GOD the community gets them back on track quickly.

The latest firmware update for the AT&T S4 (NB1) does not yet have a direct root method. The obstacles for obtaining root on this phone (S5) and that phone are generally the same. So I would say root will be achieved on the S4 (newest firmware) before or at the same time as root for the S5. So I would say you are correct about it taking a little while.
I was under the impression that the CF-AUTO ROOT Method would work on the at&t SGH-I 337. Please advice

Nope. Won't work. There is no direct root method for NB1 yet. There is a work-around that involves SafeStrap and installing a pre-rooted ROM, but that's it at the moment.

This will be my first new phone in years, so I'm not in the loop about how long this usually takes, after a phone comes out.

I'm guessing Doomlord will, in time, come up with something. Doesn't he always...?
Though I do believe we need to find a security hole to even get a recovery working (correct me if I'm wrong here).

Having bought all my devices over 6 months after they were released was probably much better for me than I ever realized xD
I'm tinkering with the idea of modding a stock FTF with root and whatnot and flashing it with flashtool. Anyone tried that yet? Or is everyone too busy looking for that one exploit they're unlikely to find?
EDIT: Back to the drawing board. Seems like things have changed a lot since I last took a look at an FTF.

Well considering most people don't want to unlock their bootloaders and miss out on the amazing camera, we can only flash FTFs (Sony-signed software).
(No system/boot write access, so finding an exploit is crucial.)

To be 110% clear....... this was developed by @idler1984, NOT me, so thank them - all credit goes to them, I'm just trying to keep the 925A forum cleared up if at all possible!
ENJOY!
EDIT - and because someone asked........ Root has been achieved for both OCE and the 5.13.15 OE2 update
EDIT 2 - and because more people can't read, you CANNOT root anything past May 15th builds, so none of the OF_ updates, nothing that comes out after May 15th, so don't update unless you want to lose root! The information is all there in the thread linked above, if you don't read, you don't have anyone to blame but yourself!
Good job. Was thinking of doing the same.

Okay, that makes sense then, OC9 instead of what I thought you were talking about, "OE9" which I guess does not exist (yet?)
They skipped that one because OE2 is out and there's no need to get the build in the middle developed, from what I can tell.... I've been wrong before though! Just hit your software update and get OE2 then root that, it has the most updates we're going to see before 5.1.1 comes out next month (still more speculating, but that's an informed guess this time based on lots of reading up on the new Galaxy from across the web)

If you search the forums, you'll find it mentioned many times that there is no way to downgrade and there is also no known root method for OF4
Wonder if this exploit would work for us possibly? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3174262

No, ZV7 is not out yet. But it is in development as indicated by the new RDF.

Now I checked a few days ago and this wasn't here. It's also noteworthy that with the H815 getting 6.0 this might be what's coming our way. We saw something similar when ZV8 came out for the G3, it was a different version on the RDF. I'll try and poke the bear, see what I can find out.
In the meantime let the speculation begin!
I wouldn't hold my breath for M --YET-- it's way to soon. Besides inside the rdf file it says 5.1. Probably just additional security updates, and perhaps some additional enhancements like we had with ZV5 & ZV6. I do like your speculation though. ?

With M out already for the global version and it supposedly out in short order afterwards for US... Well, stranger thing have happened.
I just hope the exploits we use to DD the custom ROMs doesn't get patched with 5.1 update, could be a prep for M complete with security fixes. If so I may pass on the update and or M. Just my opinion only time will tell....
OK. G3 is now showing an update ALSO in the works. And what two devices are supposed to get M first for LG?
If that's not M it's a fix that affects them both... Stagefright's already patched so not sure what other big ones are out there.

I probably will too. If you guys haven't heard M will need you to flash a custom boot.img/kernel for root, which I imagine would almost definitely throw a secure boot error for us.

Begin happy dance.
I wonder how easy it will be to root M. If I'm unable to root, I'll be sticking with L.

I second that. But, you know, we will always have root. I can't think of a single device that cannot be rooted... even my wifes cricket phone can be rooted and there isn't any forum or development for it.

That might be true. But there are plenty of devices that have never been rooted.
And if you root some new devices on Verizon or AT&T they will boot you off the network.
No Root

Yeah the At&t Note 4 does not have root which was one of the reasons I left that device.
