Got the One last week from ATT, all good. Setup the TV remote app over the weekend, no problem. Now, when I open the TV app, and touch either the remote control button or off button, the app crashes, repeatedly. I have cleared the cache, and settings and now try to start over again, and the TV app closes as soon as I touch either of these buttons.
Did not add anything, or change setup in any way, just seems to have stopped working. Cannot find much of any real information on troubleshooting.
Any one with any ideas?
Looking for someone who can strip a working tv app and post it here. Will try to load that one, since a hard reset does not work to fix the crashing tv app. If that does not work, back to att it goes, that would mean a hardware fault with the IR port causing the app to crash.
Tried the other remote apps in play store, but they are all dependant on a 3rd piece of hardware, like the Harmony app uses Harmony link device which is tied to your home wifi network and you access the tv remote through the wifi network to the Link, which switches your TV gear. all others are about the same, either wifi or bluetooth. Nothing that will actually access the phone IR port, so I cannot directly test the IR port to see if it is working. Nothing in control panel for IR port to turn it on or off, that I can find.
Drop a note if you can strip the TV app and the IR Blaster App (2 unique apps) to try this last ditch effort to get it working.
Thanks,

I purchased a D-series Samsung 2011 TV a week or so ago (UN55D8000 to be specific) and noticed that iOS and Android both had remote control apps available, so I figured that the Mango release would be a great opportunity to try out sockets on WP7. I used the SamyGo project as a base for the TV's communication format and the great UI posted here (he asked for a WinMo version earlier in the thread, so I figured the images were meant to be used) to create a WP7 version of the remote.
The app requires you to be on the same network as the TV (Wi-Fi or wired via USB) because it uses a UDP Multicast socket to find the TV, receives the response(s) via UDP Unicast, then initiates a direct TCP connection to whichever TV you choose. I was pretty excited to get to blaze a trail through Mango sockets land to develop this .
Here are the TV's that this should work with:
LED 6500 series or higher (model code starts with 'U')
LCD 650 series or higher (model code starts with 'L')
PDP 6500 series or higher (model code starts with 'P')
When in doubt, look for an option like "network remote" on the TV's menu. You may try toggling this off and back on if it doesn't work right away.
edit: Some notes:
Make sure the TV is on - the remote cannot turn on the TV because it has to talk to a server that the TV only runs when it's on.
If the TV is in its "Smart Hub" program, it may not work - I noticed in my testing that if the TV was in its internet tv/smart hub mode, it would not prompt me to authorize the new remote. So if you have troubles, try exiting any programs the TV is running and try again.
edit: Update 1 posted:
Added timeouts and retries to TV searching - the app will attempt to re-search for TV's every 2 seconds. After 10, it will give up and allow you to either enter demo mode or refresh and try again.
Added ability to exit demo mode - now if you press the 'refresh' button while in demo mode, the app will do a real refresh and look for TVs again instead of requiring you to exit and restart. Note that if you try to refresh without being on WiFi, no TVs will be found.
Pressing 'power off' will drop back to the tv list - instead of just sitting at the controls screen, powering off your TV will drop back to the list of TVs and automatically remove the one that was just powered off. You can refresh the list if there are other Samsung TVs on the network or you turn yours back on.
Added device lock/multi-task resume detection - the app will automatically attempt to reconnect to a TV when resuming if you were connected to one when the app was deactivated. Note that there's currently no timeout for a TV connection attempt, so if your TV has been powered off, you'll have to exit the app and restart it to connect to a new TV.
edit: Update 2 posted:
Added text input - there's a new QWERTY button on the navigation page that will allow you to input text on the phone and send it to the TV. NOTE: This only works in areas where the TV actually supports it. The YouTube app is not a supported area, unfortunately. It doesn't even work with the actual TV remote's keyboard. If anyone knows of a way to make this work, please let me know, but for now I'm assuming the TV just doesn't support text entry in all areas.
Minor 'searching for tv' fixes - the app should try a bit more aggressively to find TV's during its 10-second searching window. Previously it was giving up too soon, so now it has had a new motivator installed and is ready to go to work.
edit: Removed the .xaps posted here as they were way out of date. This is a free app available on the marketplace from the link above.
Feedback quite welcome.
Good to see mango apps are coming out, that's the one thing missing in this update.
i will test this app with my samsung c650 tomorrow, and let you know if it works : )

Maybe...what's it doing? Does it sit forever at "searching for tv..."? Do you have your TV hooked up to your network?
yeah, my tv is connected to the network via Ethernet, how do I find it?
searching fot tv...forever
sorry for bad english
same here, samsung le40c650 connected via ethernet to same network and phone is searching for connection forever .
Alright, thanks for the feedback guys. I don't have any other TV to test it with, so I'll have to go back to the drawing board and see what I'm doing wrong. If either of you wants the source to poke around with, I'm happy to share.
I assume you both have Mango, right?
Works perfect on my UN55D6000. Thanks, awesome work
yes, i've mango
is it possible that my TV does not support this feature?

That's exciting to hear. Guess I need to find a C-series and see what's different if it's working on my D-series and yours.

Yeah, that's possible. Try what megagprime suggested. It's also possible that the C-series TVs have a slightly different format in their response message that my app isn't picking up. I will see if any of my friends has a C-series that I can test the app on .
Wait wait... i checked my remote controll settings , and reseted the remote access (off, and then on) and it works.
So im officially telliing you that le40c650 is supported in your app
yeeees!
you're my new hero!
will test this this weekend!

Hooray! I appreciate the follow-up .
I updated the first post to include some extra things to try if the remote isn't working with your C- or D-series Samsung TV.
This app is sick
I found that if ur phone goes to sleep and wakes up it thinks it's still connected but it's not, you have to refresh the list and reconnect, maybe auto reconnect feature?

Ah yes, thanks for the feedback. Haven't had time to work on this lately, but hope to get auto-retries for TV searching in soon as well.

been using this app full time now, so cool. Definitely needs autoreconnect or something like that and too bad these bad boy tvz don't have wake_on_Lan
i have tried several methods to get whole screen mirroring working with both miracast receiver and with a chromecast ,all of it fails
so is there any way make miracast or whole screen casting work ?
i tried it with chromecast app but it connects and then disconnects in 2 seconds
Chromecast works for me on rooted stock rom by using the google home app.
It failed on cm12 as well as on the nexus rom. I tried the "share display" function in cm12 as well as the google home app. They both see the chromecast, but when I tryed to connect, it disn't work.
Anyone knows what components are relevant to
make the screenmirror function work?
At least the cast function in the youtube App worked on all roms i tryed.
Hi forum mates,
I don't see a specific sub-thread for the new Chromecast yet, so I'm going to ask here figuring somebody has one and has been playing with it.
I noticed the remote has a power and input button. I have a 2019 Samsung TV with an awful interface that is mostly an ad-server (I don't even have it network connected) that I use 90% for my laptop. I would like to use it with the chromecast and figure it I can turn it off and on and change the input back and forth between different HDMI ports, I can throw out the Samsung remote. Anyone try this?
Thanks in advance,
The Dude abides.
I just got one and I set it up on a crappy Dynex TV that's next to my work desk at home. It does have the ability to power on and off the TV and input. Unfortunately the input option doesn't work from my TV but it is available. Of course, it also has volume controls. Not that I got it all setup, I'm going move to my LG TV. Switching TV controls is pretty easy and the name brands appear first before you have to search for all the off-brands. LG, Sony, Samsung, etc all appear on the initial list of TV's available, so I'm pretty sure they're supported.
In my experience, the input button doesn't switch through the different TV inputs. It only works when your TV isn't on the correct inputs that the Chromecast is using.
ie Chromecast is on TV input 1 and soundbar input 3, but you're currently on a gaming console that's TV input 2 and soundbar input 2. The CC remote input button will change the TV to input 1 and soundbar input 3 when pressed.
Just got one today. The button works well on Samsung TV.
I got one yesterday. Volume and Power button work with 43" Toshiba Cast TV (43L621U).
When setting up the remote it took just the second pass on the volume and power button setups. The input button causes the input menu to jump around but nothing changes. The process was pretty easy. I named it Sabrina and moved it into the "living room" in the Home app. Voice commands like, "Ok Google, Play Mr Deeds on Netflix on Sabrina" and "Hey Google, turn on Sabrina" work but need to press the remote's power button to turn off the tv. I can live with that.
I ordered mine this morning. Will be here by the 21st.
Has anyone found a case/jacket for the remote it is o small? I have hisense 2018 tv, power and volume work but not input and telling google assistant to turn off tv, just turn off chromecast.
have mine, works fine on my old sony TV and JML sound bar , only question is OTG , 1.3 GB of space is crazy.. so I tried to add some more via a OTG breakout box... with HDMI ( Non powered ) USB etc... it works with my phone ( Sam A71) but not the CC google TV. Does any have any good ideas for an OTG cable that works with the CC G TV ?
Thanks guys - in case anybody searches this later. Power, input, and volume all work on my Samsung TV. I can use the input selector to switch between Chromecast and my laptop on 2 different HDMI ports.

Thanks, I'm still using the native Android on my 900E, but my Chromecast is definitely faster and more responsive and I may add one to the Sony too. I'll keep the Harmony remote for that setup.
I don't have this issue, it work well on my TV
Today i updated to OneUI 2.5 and the Smart View function from the notification panel doesn't find my TV anymore. It used to work before. My TV is a 2011 Series 6 one. The 32D6100 model connected via wire to internet. I tried the Smart Things app and it found it as a directly connected device but sharing things from the app is cumbersome compared to using the Smart View toggle. Can someone on OneUI 2.5 please see if it works for them?
Worked for me. Sometimes I need to restart either tv or phone or both of them to connect again. Other then that it works great. I use wireless dex if cast doesnt work.

Weird. I restarted tv and phone and nothing. Actually my phone does find something but every time it's a different random device. One time it was a LG TV, one time a Sony, then some random projector. And if i try to connect it disappears from list. I'm connected to wifi and there's only one TV that's also connected to the same internet in my home. TV doesn't support miracast as it's quite old though so i can't use wireless dex or screen mirroring on it. Smart view could only show some content from the default Samsung gallery, music and video apps. Will buy an Anycast M9 Plus dongle and hope everything works with it.
I have two Chromecasts -- one first generation and one second generation. I also have an old Firestick. My wife's Galaxy S 9 works fine with all three devices. My phone worked fine with all three until a couple of weeks ago. Now, my phone can only cast to the Firestick (and obviously only from supported apps like YouTube and Netflix). If I open the Google Home app on my phone, both Chromecasts appear in their appropriate rooms, but that's about where my control ends.
In Home, I can tap and connect to the second generation device to control the volume and I can also tap the "Watch live TV" button below the icon and it will start casting some weird network with old game shows. I can do absolutely nothing else with that Chromecast including screen mirroring, casting from any app, or even viewing or controlling playback of media cast from a different phone. I can tap to connect to the first generation device, but it says "Not available" and that's the end of that. There is no "Watch live TV" button below it.
Again, all of these devices work fine with my wife's phone. I have tried all the usual culprits from unplugging every relevant device and waiting a few minutes, resetting the Chromecast, clearing Home app data, uninstalling and reinstalling apps, verifying all devices are on the same network, making sure Home and Google Play Services have full permissions, the phone isn't in power save mode, sensors are enabled, etc... Google Home has no trouble managing other connected devices in my home including light bulbs and speakers. I can reset the Chromecasts and actually set them up with my phone from the Home app, but as soon as they connect to Home, my phone can no longer control them.
Anyone ever had a similar experience? Can you think of any obscure settings that might be causing me issues? I already spent an hour or more with Google's Chromecast support and I'm about to see if I can find a good Samsung support channel.
