Kindle hd battery won't charge fix - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all I've read a few posts about this issue after having the same thing happen to me and all the solutions ended up in having to buy a new battery or fast charging cable ... well I found a solution that worked for me on two different devices so before going out and buying a new battery give this a shot
Step 1 open your kindle fire
Step 2 disconnect the battery cable
Step 3 plug in the charging cable preferably the wall outlet cable
Step 4 plug the battery back in
That should get it going again if it doesn't happen the first keep trying untill it does it should work
If not then the battery might be shot but before you go throwing the battery away try thus next solution
Grab the battery and wrap it in some newspaper give it a good wrap making sure no moisture can get in seal it in tape
Stick it in the freezer for a week
After the week is over take it out of the freezer unwrap it and leave it for a day
After the battery has had time to get to room temperature repeat the 4 steps
I've read so many pros and cons about this method but through desperation ended up trying it and have had success
The freezer method I've tried on various batteries over the years and it has worked
The kindle batteries I tried I didn't have to stick them in the freezer the first methid ended up getting them going
Well good luck friends I hope these two methods end up saving y'all some money

Official Charger Broken - Bring Dead Nook Back to Life?

Hey guys, I got an email on my nook the other day, and when I picked it up, I didn't realize I still had it plugged into the charger, so I accidentally yanked it and broke the B&N micro SD cable.
I'm running phiremod, so normally this isn't a problem since I can slow-charge from my PC or car adapter.
The only problem is, charging like this only works once you've loaded the CM kernel. If you try to charge from a dead battery, you can't do that!
Right now, my nook color is dead. I can plug it in and I get the "not enough power to turn on, please wait 15 minutes and try again" message.
My question is, is there any way to charge this sucker (from death) without shelling out another $25 for the charger (and all I need is the cable, but they are almost just as much).
I have it plugged into my PC currently, and it has been plugged in for about an hour, but it still won't power on. If I leave it plugged into the B&N charger with a regular microUSB cable (even all night) it won't charge a drop.
Any suggestions?
Edit:
FWIW, my nook DID turn on after about an hour - an hour and a half of charging with 11% battery and continues to charge via the PC with a regular microUSB cable. It takes a while, but it will charge
Its good that it started working again. I know some things need to use an official charger to come from the dead. If you wanted to see if you could make it charge faster, (both from dead and regularly) you could try a different USB to wall adapter with higher wattage/amperage. Think iPad, XOOM, or Atrix (all high power-draw devices) charger...

Higher amperage will help...but the magic is in those extra long connectors on the stock cable..to fast charge you will prolly need to get a new one.
Just a friendly PSA: lithium ion batteries should not be deep discharged.
I'm going to need a new cable pretty soon. The end that plugs into the Nook has been cracking and falling apart. I'm guessing I'd have to get it direct from B&N?

You could try this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Barnes-Noble-No...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item2eb48a16e6
Just wanted to add: I've been able to bypass the low battery screen. Pop in a bootable Clockwork SD, then plug into the power source. If there's enough power you'll get into recovery. Swap back to your usual SD, and select the reboot option from inside recovery. It'll boot straight into the OS, bypassing the low battery warning.

Call B&N tech support and tell them that you have a bad USB cable. I did, and they sent me a new charger+cable within a week, gratis. YMMV.
i got one at best buy $14.95 OEM
The stock B&N charger is 2 amps (or 2000 milliamps) so any charger with less than that will take longer to charge. USB only supplies .5 amps so takes a lot longer to charge.
The ebay link above is a 1 amp charger.
I had the same thing happen to my Nook, and I've been fairly regular at the local brick and mortar B&N the last month or two (1 hour book read and various purchases and stuff).
So I took the cable in and showed it to them. They took that one and handed me a new cable. 'tis my suspicion that it's a fairly common occurrence with the sample units.
Worst you can do is ask.

Mine was doing the same thing. Chunks were falling off the end that plugs into the Nook. I took it into my local store and they simply handed me a new one. Claimed it was the first time they'd seen one like that...

I had a really great experience with brick and mortar bn staff. One guy cracked open a new charger and cord and just said to stop by if evertth wasn't totally fixed. I left and now I even have an extra charger!
BN staff = win!

Odd, the associate I spoke with said there were issues with some of the cords shipped with the early batches.

I did the same thing and they sent for free no questions asked.
Bought my nook used off craigslist. Called in and got a replacement cable no problem.

ive been struggling with this for a few days since this whole battery issues have been going around with the late CM 82 nightlys... well. i wanted to make sure that my nook wasnt toast. (i have 3 and 3 different chargers and cables all OEM all new) so just last night right before the "fix" was merged into nightly 91/93.... ill be damned if i didnt do exactly what you said and managed to suck enuff juice out to boot off SD into recovery... however... i thought problem was solved and i let it sit in recovery (plugged into wall) but had i known what i known now... it WONT charge without the CM kernel installed. Now i think i managed to "brick" an unbrickable device. does this make any sense? im not good with words i guess.. but anyway... there isnt enough juice to even get to the "connect charger screen" hell... i bet most people dont know theres actually ANOTHER "connect your damn charge dummy!!!" screen that comes up after the one that says try again in 15 minutes lol. so ya... been sitting on each of my chargers for at least an hour each hoping to get some juice out ... and its a no go. o well.. i got 2 others... but dammit i had that one JUST the way i wanted it. idk why i even went to .32 kernel... it was a nightmare from first boot. (no i did not revert to stock rom first as i hear is what does the trick)

maybe i should post a warning thread to others to MAKE SURE BATTERY DOES NOT DRAIN COMPLETELY OUT BETWEEN WIPING AND FLASHING FIXED rom.... cuz your nook will NOT charge...... side note... does anyone have any suggestions as far as like a higher rated charger that may force a charge or soemthing? im no electrical engineer so if thats sounds dumb... it prob is. lol
Can you damage a device using higher amperage chargers than supplied with the device (i.e. using nook charger at 2 amps to charge cell phone supplied with 0.7 amp charger)?

The tip of the Nook charger won't fit into a standard micro-USB port.
But if you plug a standard micro-USB cable into the Nook wall charger piece, I believe the USB power protocol will automatically modulate down to the highest the device can accept.

Dead battery

I bought 3 Touchpads and kept two. I installed twrp with cm9 on all of them.
The one I didn't keep I gave to my son. He let the battery drain completely while in android and now it appears totally dead. I plug it in...try on touchstone and nothing.
Is it over??

Not necessarily check this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36038263#post36038263 .
I hope it helps, the touchstone has always worked for me but I have bookmarked the above just in case .
Good luck ..
Other than the debrick, I had this problem a few days ago and discovered that using a cable that want the one that came with the TP just didn't provide enough charge. Switching to the original cable fixed it. It's a long shot, but if you're using a 3rd-party cable try to get an original.

Stressful Charging Issue

So one day my phone randomly stopped charging correctly..... It was working perfectly like 2 days ago. But now every time I want to charge my phone I have to bend the HTC charging cord down so that it will charge and most of the time it doesn't even charge properly. If I just put it in normally it will not charge at all. The highest I got my phone to charge was 47% and from there it just goes down because my phone doesnt charge properly.
Ive had a problem with my charging port before but Ive gotten it replaced and it was working perfectly.
I also got a brand new charging cord for about $30 so the cord is not the problem.
Ive also tried to use a friends cord and charge my phone but I still have to bend the cord to get it to work.
Someone please help me with this.. This is very stressful. My phone was working fine 2 days ago. And its been working perfectly for a long time. But now all of a sudden it wants to stop working properly.

Same exact thing happened to me, I wouldn't toy around with it too much because I completely broke mine to where it won't charge at all now..
What I suggest is getting a charger dock for just your batteries (if you have more than one) or just buy a new charger port and replace it.. it's only held in by two screws.

How much does a charger dock cost?
You could probably find a cheap charger dock on eBay. Albeit it might be of poorer grade, it would be enough to get you by.

Charger
Amazon is a good resource for many things, including chargers. I bought a battery for my old phone there, and it came with a free external battery charger. It turns out that it charges most any LiOn battery. The charger is built by Anker, and costs about $5 or $10. A very good technique is to buy a second battery and charge it, then swap batteries when the phone's battery gets low. That way you always have a charged battery available.

[Q] battery trick

hi, I'm having difficulties doing the battery trick with a particular nexus one phone. I have a second one, and it's not as hard to do with that second one. but my 'daily driver' is really driving me nuts, it can sometimes take over an hour to get the damn thing going, and it gets exponantially frustrating when flashing roms and having to do battery pulls because adb reboot won't work. Using different charges don't really help, but sometimes I get more lucky with a wall charger instead of a usb wire in a usb to wall charger
So, what triggers the battery bootup? is it a voltage boost? could I trigger it by sticking a second charger's stripped wires in the battery pins? I even have 2 extra batteries with the same voltage, if that can help anything!
What is a battery trick
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
battery trick is to plug the charger in the usb port, then remove and reinsert the battery a few times because the power button is defective - a common problem with nexus ones
my profile is too new to post a youtube link
Not sure why its not working for you but you can get a replacement button for less then $15 and it takes less then 10 min to fix

When I fixed mine about a year ago I just searched on eBay, it comes as the whole flex cable. I have fixed a lot of electronics over the years so I just took it apart and replaced it but I'm sure if you search there will be a disassembly guide somewhere. If you get stuck feel free to ask though

Battery trick not working except in a certain house
I know this is an old thread but since I'm currently forced to use my nexus one (broken power button, repaired once under warranty, broke agai) as a temporary replacement, I've had to deal with the battery trick issue again.
I DON'T GET IT. Back when it was my main phone, the BATTERY TRICK worked fine, took a few times max. Now I have collated all the info I can find on how to do it (some of which is actually conflicting) and it WILL NOT WORK, except if I do it at my girlfriends house which MAKES NO SENSE.
IT IS NOT:
1.) The charger (various brands/both USB and wall socket)
2.) THe battery (authentic HTC battery)
3.) It doesn't work whether its fully charged (GREEN LIGHT) or charging up (ORANGE LIGHT)
4.) It doesnt work when I do it 20 times in a row with the "correct" timing (battery back in JUST as the light turns off), and not when I do it 20 times in the way which this video does it (waits for one orange flash before reinsertion)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O5adV-jj64&feature=relmfu
5.) Have tried removing sim and sd card, charging it for days, just EVERYTHING.
Sorry just venting as this just boggles my mind.
Anyone have any input on this age old issue? What's weirdest is that it used to work fine for me around 2012. And no, not buying the goddamn flex for 30 dollars, I have enough issues getting my One X+ diagnosed (been waiting 3-4 weeks on some incompetent repair shop).
