Android os background data extremely high - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody know how to stop this ? The first few weeks of using my phone it was quite low but now it's sky high! Have had a Google and tried unsyncing everything, turned off background data, turned off back up and still it's getting worse! Any ideas ?

Looks like something is failing to sync properly and is stuck trying to do so. Have you had a look in your sync settings to see if anything is doing this?
My browser once got stuck in this state. Turning off the sync for it, going into the app settings and wiping cache and data sorted it.
Failing that, try Settings> Call Settings> Use Internet Calling, and check not settings in there are causing it.
Not left Wi-Fi hotspot on have you?
Try putting this on to find the culprit: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.taosoftware.android.packetcapture&feature=search_result

Most of my synching is off and it's not on auto sync, but my internet calls was on to accept only internet calls ? Although an account isn't set up with it, but I did download Skype once at perhaps the same of this rise, have changed it to ask for each call and will monitor it!

Is there any known issue with chrome 2 phone and cyanogen?

Wow kind of glad I wasnt the only one with this issue. How to we tell Cyan?
Well, that.
Mine hasn't worked for quite a while now, and I always have my gapps updated. It just keeps crashing every time I try to send any linkto my phone.

Not having much success with it either... Message says sent to phone, but my phone never responds.
Used to work perfectly, so I don't think it CM in general, but maybe the more recent builds?

Its wierd with this issue, sometimes it works(since loading cm6 rc1 it works...sorta) sometimes it doesnt or just takes a while to receive. Im not a tech genius by any means so i dont know for sure why it happens but the issue is present.
Are you guys in an area with bad reception? Mine works instantly.
doesn't work for me either.
on a separate note, I hate the chrome to phone browser extension because it doesn't remember login credentials
+1 It's really badly implemented. It's often more effective to send the link via email...

Works fine here on CM6.1

Force closes every time i try and send something. But i found if i get it to send the notification, rather than automatically launch, the notification stays and is still usable.
I found a fix/workaround. Try assigning a notification sound (you don't actually have to turn notification sounds on). Once I did that, the crashing stopped. It works even with auto launch enabled.
i just cleared Chrome to Phone data and re-connected with my account, and all is well

[Q] Problems on 3G

Hey guys. First of all, I do have a working connection, but there's one problem though. Whenever my phone is on mobile data, some apps just work weird.
Gtalk: I am signed in, chatting with someone, then I put the phone away for a few minutes. The next time I check Gtalk, it is offline. It doesn't even want to get online until I turn 3G off and back on or I restart the app, then it works for a while (random) and then happens again.
Facebook: I browse the news feed and at some point (random) when i reach the bottom of the page and it should load the earlier posts, it just rolls the little circle but nothing happens. Closing the app and restarting it solves the problem, but again, temporalily.
Life is Magic (game): It can hang anytime between loading the levels or whenever it needs data connection.
Whenever these things happen, and I fire up the browser, it works... but despite that, Gtalk still wouldn't go online until I restart it. This happened on every every JB (LPY,LPQ,LQB) so far. I am using CoCore kernel, no other mods.
Thanks for help or any ideas!
Same problem here with gtalk . It has been offline on all version and combination of JB and kernels.can someone provide me stock gtalk app.so that I can re install

you can download a google apps package from here: http://goo.im/gapps
i tried that one too though, still the same. the problem is with the way certain apps using mobile networks, i believe. it doesn't happen on wifi.
Guys, really no one else uses Google Talk?
Still, I believe the problem is with 3G.
Yeah, like you guys said, this happens to me on every official firmwares and only when I'm on 3g. (Just noticed now that you guys mention it)
I had to turn off and on the 3g for it to be active again. I don't use gtalk but it happens with gmail, stock email, fb, xda-app and tapatalk too among others.
As mentioned, it's totally random and usually happens when left by itself for a while. Until now, the only workaround I used is like you guys, just to turn it off and on again.
Until now I thought it was a problem with my ISP but guess it wasn't.

probably not. but still, turning it on and off doesn't solve the problem because Gtalk goes offline after a while and I don't receive messages which is the whole pont
also, facebook app stops refreshing the news feed as I scroll down...
up...
does anyone have a solution yet? are there others affected?
UPDATE: i went back to Gingerbread thinking that it will solve my problem. But that just doesn't happen, gtalk goes offline, i am not getting facebook messages etc,etc...
I think I should take this phone to the service.

Phone connecting by itself

Hello,
This is driving me crazy.
I come from iOS. I could use my phone and it was only connecting to the internet when needed. Though I could still receive push notifications.
Now my problem is that my One keeps connecting to h+ whenever it feels like it.
For example I could be idle in the menu or exit an app or unlock the screen...and the damn thing would enable a connection, checking god knows what.
If I disable auto sync then the problem sorts itself but I guess I wouldn't receive any gmail or facebook notifications anymore.
I tried only checking gmail, chrome and fb under accounts and sync, but problem is still there. A real pain as I'm pretty sure it eats my battery by connecting often.
Ps : contacts are on the phone and I unchecked the box that allows user to get contacts from Google contacts.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Deleted.
Update : sync off doesn't fix anything.
Is there a way to see which program tries to connect ?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
So I wiped everything, and installed Maximus, AHRD & Trickdroid one after the other to check things out. Always ending in a way that didn't please me. So I started to install app after app and checking between each install.
Things started to get messy when using ChompSMS. The damn thing seems to connect to the internet almost every damn time you send a message.
Then, I also saw that Blinkfeed needs to load images even though it's set to update on Wifi, so I removed every news feed just to make sure - problem solved for this one (not using it anyway).
Now, there's way more connections being enabled, so I'm pretty happy. Still a few but I guess that's ok. I will monitor them tomorrow upon rebooting the phone but so far, beside :
- Facebook (push)
- Google services (probably for hangout)
- Twitter (god knows what)
There are almost no "unexplained" connections anymore (only 2 remains, but I'm pretty sure they are OS related). I will probably check out a firewall tomorrow afternoon and see if I can configure it correctly, but seeing that there are quite a lot of core programs that needs to be able to go on the internet, that might prove to be a challenge.
But I'm quite happy with the way things are turning out. Goddamn ChompSMS...and if I disable internet access via a firewall, it won't be able to receive/emit MMS. So I'm back with the stock app for now (which lacks some iphone-sque smilies, and some emoji icons)

Youtube and google play store issues on wifi

Many times I open google play and it says no connection retry, I just keep hitting retry and it usually works. On youtube however the same issue arises and I press retry and it does nothing, it says there's still no connection. I believe this is a wifi issue as I switched on my 4g and the video loaded just fine. Also sometimes on my PC I get some error that google doesn't have a valid certificate so I don't know if that's part of the problem as well. How can I fix it? Are there some router settings I should change?
Exact same problem here. For me it happens on wifi and normal data. .

push
I have the same issue and cant find a solution or at least the reason for it
I had the same problem and I think upon reading something in here, I deactivated the Autosync feature and couldn't replicate the problem. However, that was the source of another problem detected afterwards, as it would not push notifications to weather/mail/Blinkfeed. I would've thought having AutoSync on syncs everything under accounts by the default settings and having it off, you could manually set the sync for accounts separately and they would still work, but I haven't been able to set things up so as to avoid both issues. It's probably fixable by these means, though.

Delayed or no push notifications at all when phone is sleeping

So I searched and was not able to find anyone complaining on not receiving push notifications (whatsapp msgs, Gmail, Facebook messages etc) when the screen has been off for 10 minutes or more either on wifi or mobile data.
It has been happening to me since day one and it is surely not a Smartsync issue like we had on the HOX as it also happens during the morning.
So to explain better, if my phone's screen has been off for about we 10 minutes or longer then no push notifications come. Instead they are all flooding in as soon as i turn the screen on again.
Of course i have the power saver turned off, wifi sleep policy to never turn off, automatic sync on etc.
Please note that this happens both on wifi and mobile data. In fact the situation on mobile data i believe is even worse.
Anyhow below is a nice thread about the exact same problem.

Does it happen to anyone else owning the One?
Please share your thoughts.

Hmm, have you tried going to the "Accounts & sync" section and then checking each account individually
to make sure that sync is enabled for each one. Even though Auto sync is on, some accounts may need to be enabled manually.
I find i have to do this after restoring from a Titanium backup otherwise nothing syncs. Just make sure the sync icon is highlighted for all of them...

What about "Power Saver"? There are four separate things Power Saver does (and you can choose which are actually activated) - one of them is to turn off the data connection when the screen is off. (This is a separate setting from "sleep mode").

Well i do have this problem. I have all the settings correct but mails and whatsapp wont sync at times for an hour or so. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it does not. ive tried using different roms but its the same.
If your phone is rooted try wiping data for "Google Services Framework" and Play Store, wipe cache and dalvik cache, remove your accounts, reboot, re-add your accounts and wait for it to sync.
Let us know the results.

This. I had this problem before too and tried a bunch of stuff and it went away. The problem is i dont know what fixed it, but it was one of these things in the post. Also try deleting all your saved wifi networks, and connecting to them again.
This solution will come with consequences tho. Google Services Framework (GSF) is responsible, besides other things, for C2DM which basically is "push notifications".
Most of Google apps as well as other apps receiving notifications rely on C2DM. Reseting the data for GSF will most probably solve the issue but bear in mind that you also might need to clear data for apps relying on GSF. That means setting up apps like Whatsapp, Viber, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter etc. from scratch.

Ι've started having problems with push notifications since a couple of days.
I'm not sure what's going on but it's frustrating.
I've googled around and I've seen various problems, especially in the Nexus 4 and some older HTC phones. It seems to be more of an Android problem than a model specific. Various solutions are proposed but with no apparent success (except using an app that wakes the wifi, but needs rooting).
I'm full stock with nothing fancy.
Situation:
Wi-Fi on - No Power Saver, WiFi Always On, No Sleep Data etc
After about 10 minutes give or take with the screen off Whatsapp, Hangouts, Facebook messages etc come with a big delay.
Only Viber seems to work perfectly. I've tried various times and each time the messages I sent to myself from other phones or the PC came with a delay of about 5'-10' with the exception of Viber.
I still haven't tested this with other wifi networks.
I'm almost sure that this delay is relatively new. If the phone "wakes", then the messages are instantly delivered.
3G on
Although I haven't tested it that much, it seems that everything works fine when using Data connection.
Any ideas? Are there any other options on the phone that I should try toggling?
Ι believe that WA, FB and Hangouts were updated these last days or am I wrong?
I am able to get push notifications using Exchange Activesync with a Google Apps gmail account, through the HTC One stock email program.
However, setting up my personal gmail account in the gmail app, I get no push notifications whatsoever, I have to manually check the app to receive my emails, which is pointless...
I have checked all my settings and I can't see anything amiss, this hasnt worked since purchase, but its beginning to really grind on me, as I need to know if I have an email...
Could anyone assist?
LG 70 works now...
