Definately a right handed phone. - Sprint HTC One (M7)

<rant>
It has become quite clear to me having used this phone for 4 days now, that HTC only had right handed people in mind when developing this phone.
Initially I became aware at the placement of the Home button, since it seems much easier to press with one hand if you are holding the device in your right. But I passed it off as a 'well, they had to put it somewhere, might as well make it enjoyable for the majority'... and this isn't it...
The power button is also much easier to press w/ your index finger if holding it in your right hand. for left handers (me) it seems easier to actually press the button w/ my right hand than to struggle getting it done with my left. but whatever right? doesn't really affect the usage of the phone, merely an inconvenience. and again, they had to put it somewhere... as if these 2 issues weren't enough there's yet another one, and this one makes me consider taking the phone back.
The placement of the mic on the bottom of the phone is NOT in the center. instead it is placed in the bottom right of the phone, which when held by a right-hander places it closest to the mouth, however when held by a left hander it causes issues. you see when i hold my phone to my head i maintain three points of contact, thumb on the left, 1st 2nd and 3rd fingers on the right and my pinky on the bottom (to prevent slipage).. well as it happens, they place the mic right where a left handed persons pinky would naturally lie.
I kept having people telling my my call was breaking up or coming in and out.. i blamed cell reception but after a few people said this i began to investigate... and basically because i hold my phone to my head w/ my left hand, this causes my pinky to cover up the microphone...
Sure I could change my grip, though this is a tough change after years and years of it not mattering... but a much easier change would have been to center the mic on the phone...

I'm left handed as well. Although I almost exclusively use my phone with my right hand.
Just go do something reckless and break your left arm. You'll get used to right handed life quitee fast.

nice lol

I'll take BT Headsets for $1000 Alex.
I hold my One left handed and don't have these issues.

I don't actually have the phone, but I was thinking it seemed left handed with the power on the left. I use my thumb on my phone for the power button on the right and for your phone, it's easier to use your left thumb. Either way though, the power button is better on either side rather than the top. It does make sense to cater to right handed people if any though since we are about 70% of the world. Neutral is best though.

The phone is definitely very use able with the left hand. If anything the power button is easier to press.... Also I can reach the back and home buttons with no problem at all. As for the mic, I'm pretty sure its still going to pickup your voice.....

I'm right handed but I always hold the phone in the left. It's more comfortable to me

There are also signal issues for lefties... at least for my phone, but I'm sure many others might have this issue too.
Here is a thread I started regarding this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243464
Also not a fan the placement of the power button as I press it with my index finger from the back side while holding the phone, which puts my finger on the right side of the phone...that I can live with, but the signal issue is driving me nuts!

I'm left handed and I have none of the problems you speak of lol. I can reach the home key with my thumb easily and the power button is easy to press with my index finger. I just had my small handed girlfriend try lefty and she had no problems either. Sounds like it's all you bro lol

Hmm. I feel like the mic works much better for me when holding the phone in my left hand. My mouth is positioned much closer to the mic. But I suppose this could be due to the fact that I hold the phone in such a way that my greasy face isn't pressed against the screen.
And how does a home button being positioned closer to the thumb when held in the right hand make it a right handed phone? It's like saying the back button is positioned next to your left thumb and easier to tap with your left hand, therefore the phone is a left-handed phone... There are 2 capacitive buttons. One will be easier to press with one hand, and the other will be easier to press with the other. :/

I'm right-handed, but always hold the phone with my left hand....freeing my right hand to do the screen tappy stuff.

I'm a southpaw, but I keep the phone in my right pocket and hold it with my right hand.
I will be interested to see how the One feels compared to my current device (EVO 3D).

You definitely just seem like someone trying to badmouth HTC's One. I own a One myself and find it to be one of the best feeling phones I've ever owned (The original EVO was the best in my opinion). I myself are ambidextrous ( Due to breaking my right arm when I was eight) and never experienced any of these issues even though I constantly find myself switching in between calls between my right and left hand. To each his own though I guess and thanks for your opinions and feelings about the one and I hope you appreciate my own opinions and feelings. In the end of the day a opinion is never wrong.

I'm also left handed, and have yet to have any issues with holding. Of course that varies by person, but I hold it left handed and have gotten completely used to it already.
For the mic, it actually works better for me left handed, as I don't actually press my phone up to my head. I hover the phone a few millimeters off, with my pointer finger wrapped over the top, and that finger resting on my ear. That angle and setup seems to be the sweet spot for the mic.
Give it some more time, you'll adjust to it. Every phone model is a bit different, so it takes a little getting used to, just like a new car.

My intent was not to bad mouth HTC. I absolutely love this phone. It's the best device I've ever owned.. just some inconveniences that I have to adapt to. I love HTC and their phones which is why u bought this instead of the Samsung galaxy s4. I just need to learn to hold it in such a way that my pinky doesn't block the Mic.

The Speaker on my Captivate stopped working =\

The other day, I noticed my phone stopped ringing, but was still vibrating. I did everything that I could to try to get the phone to play sound through the external speaker, but I got nothing. I eventually did the ODIN 1 click to restore and I'm still getting no sound. I took the phone apart to check to see if the speaker cable was loose, but everything is in tact...
Does anyone know what Samsung support is like? I loved being able to take my iPhone into any Apple store to get it swapped out for any issues. Is it the same with the Captivate and any AT&T store? I bought the phone from Best Buy.
How long has it been since you got the phone? Since you bought it from best buy I'm guessing you should take it there first if anywhere. They might swap you for a new one within 30 days of the purchase, but that's just a general warranty dealy that may not apply to phones. In any case I'd hit best buy first, because unless you bought it from the at&t store, I'm not sure If they'd help you that much as far as replacements go.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
take off the battery cover and press down on the speaker.
Best buy will replace the phone within the 30 day buyers remorse period.
After that you have to go through AT&T Warranty dept (not the store). They will advance you a refurb phone, and give you stuff to send back.
On that note hopefully you are within 30 days so you get a brand new phone from BB.
I just had this happen to me for the first time today, and pushing hard on the speaker fixes it for me, too. For now. Not a good sign. I think today is my 29th day...gotta make a quick decision. Time to read up on restoring to factory default...I've rooted and lagfixed this guy.

i've got a replacement captivate now, but my old one did that once. no sound at all. i rebooted and it came back though.
Same problem
I am having exactly the same problem does anyone know how to fix it? :S i root it yesterday and tried the lag fix thingy.
I had the same problem. It happened on the night of the 29th day of owning the phone, the next day I took it to the closest AT&T Warranty Exchange center (or whatever they call it) and got a new phone.
I had this happen to me a few weeks ago, lucky for me it had only been like two weeks since I had bought the phone. I got it from At&t and just went back there and they gave me a new one. Does anyone know what causes this?
Fixed
I had the same problem...had tried the Odin One-Click restore, tried restoring, and several other things.
Do what VZSpyder says above...remove the battery cover and press down on the speaker. It immediately started working.
<<-- also a victim of the speaker issue. Pressing down on it has worked for about a month now. But the whole issue is a sign of larger problems I feel plague this handset.
I learned the hard way not to trust this thing as an alarm clock when the speaker glitch started showing itself.
The Samsung captivate has been by far the most problem prone phone or PDA I have had in my possession since 2002.
Actually, I haven't found any activity I can truly trust this phone to perform. It seems to randomly be unable to fulfill every task it is theoretically capable of.
Solutions to Captivate Speaker Issue
Ok, so I had my Samsung Captivate speaker cut out entirely last night and was, needless to say, very disappointed. However, I still believe it is a good phone, I cling to this notion despite the ribbing I took from my friends when the speaker cut out during a YouTube video. Grrrr... Anyway, and more to the point, what follows is my fix.
First, I pressed firmly on the speaker as suggested by many bloggers and the speaker started working again. Hooray! However, like many Captivate owners, I find this temporary fix, "unacceptable on principle alone." Ever the tinkerer and problem-solver, I thought there must be a low-tech solution to this issue as it appears to be related to the small 16mm x 5mm speaker unit’s unseen electronic contacts.
I thought: “If only there were a way to provide constant gentle pressure to the speaker unit without interfering with its performance or voiding the phone’s warranty, gentle but firm pressure that would stabilize the speaker unit and perhaps add a level of protection from vibration.” Here is what I came up with and I believe that it is quite possibly the lowest cost solution ever stumbled upon by a mere mortal.
I took one small "3M Command™ Strip," of the 16mm width variety associated with 3M's wonderful "Damage-Free Hanging Wall Solution" collection of devices. At one end of each Command™ Strip there is a 5mm section of the strip that is sticky on one side, the so-called “wall-side,” while the other side is adhesive free. I cut this end off producing a 5mm wide and 16mm long strip which has friendly adhesive only on one side. I then cut that strip to produce one 2mm wide and one 3mm wide strip exactly 16mm long.
Since the speaker unit is about 16mm long and 10mm wide, I then applied the 2mm x 16mm strip at the outermost boundary of the top of the speaker unit (closest to the camera lens) and the 3mm x 16mm strip at the outermost boundary at the bottom of the unit (closest to the battery). This seems to leave the tiny speaker grill, roughly 5mm wide, unimpeded and once the metal cover is put back in place it could, in theory, provide enough gentle pressure on the speaker unit to stabilize it and perhaps prevent a loss of electrical contact in the event of vibration and associated shifting or, God forbid, a small drop.
Stupid Speakers...
I have a similar problem with my Captivate's sound. Randomly, the sound will drop to almost nothing, though it is still audible if you put it right up to your ear.... Just barely.
It seems to "fix" itself if I gently tap the phone or drop it on a table or something... Could this be something similar? Perhaps electrical connections not being seated firmly?
it IS an electrical connection not sitting correctly.
press firmly on the left area beside the grill.
or take back for warranty.
if you dont have warranty, open it up press the connection back down and apply a peice of scotch tape over it.
Replacement doesn't help. I've got a new speaker put in by samsung .and 2days later. Same thing. I just havea small piece of paper behind the back plate to keep pressure on it.works well

I had the same thing happen to me. I just took it back and got another one. A little tip for those that don't like this or any other phone for that mater.
If you phone is still under warranty call/take it in 3 times. After 3 times you can request a different phone. Just be sure to pick one that is atleast as good or better.
I have used this method to get pseudo free upgrades for years now.

I hate the branding. It really takes away from the look of the phone.
Anyways, can't complain too much. This phone rocks. I cant wait for root. I'm going to make a tweaked build.prop for everyone to use. I'm sure I can get it to benchmark better than the SGS3. So who cares I guess, all phones these days look alike practically.

No.... just no. I really wish people would stop saying this. You're all .... anyway:
There's a big black bar at the bottom for the same reason there's a big black bar at the top.
A) to put your hardware. It's gotta go somewhere. Bigger screen on top of the hardware, would've meant bigger/heavier phone.
B) There also has to be big black space at the top of the phone for the ear piece and the camera.... It has to match at the bottom, or else the screen wouldnt be symmetric.
Try this with me. Just for a second:
Hold your phone in landscape mode.
Imagine that you didnt have big black areas at the top or bottom
You'd have nowhere to rest your thumbs, and your fingers would be on the screen.
Also imagine how the screen would look offset to the bottom of the phone.... EW.
It matters less in portrait mode because you can squeeze the phone between your fingers & palm naturally.
When in landscape mode, you'll have to use two hands, and holding it with friction would be uncomfortable and unsafe.

I could careless for a screen larger than 4.3" the Atrix HD 4.5" is perfect.
I know there is hardware under the logo area. Also on the top end you have the notification LED, front camera and light sensor.
The complaint with the Death Star logo is that its right smack in the middle like the Iphone home button.
The Atrix HD looks really clean without buttons, but the logo disrupts the clan look and feel.
No one is really crying about it. Its just a frustrating after thought on behalf of AT&T. They could have placed it on the back with all that other serial number and LTE information is stamped.
I know that moshi screen protectors will cover the logos so you cant see them. I had one on my Atrix 2 and it was a really clean look.
I'll just have to wait for Moshi to make one for the MAHD.
So far I just have a universal one that only covers the screen area.
I got the screen protector at the AT&T store, its great, covers the whole front of the phone, but it leaves a window for the deathstar. i'm probably gonna put some black something under it to hide it eventually. I think it's subtle enough. but it would've been much better on the back.
I promise you that wasnt added there by designers. it was added by a business person.

When I was watching some of the reviews on youtube, I thought the AT&T logo was a physical button. Why does AT&T have to slap their
logo on every phone they have? I have the Samsung S3 from Rogers and there's no logo on the phone. Pretty much all the Canadian carriers
don't put their logos on the phones now because everyone was complaining about it. I hope the Bell version of the Atrix HD don't have any Bell branding on it. I have to get mine from Bell because it doesn't look like Rogers will be carrying it.
If you want a really good screen protector that will cover the branding check out the Moshi screen protector.
Moshi Black Anti-Glare
The preview shows a Atrix 2, but I placed a phone call for an order earlier yesterday asking if they had it and Customer rep said they had it online.
It's 25 bucks, but worth every penny. I have one on my Atrix 2 and it covers all the branding. You just plop it on, no need to squeege it, or spray it with water. You place it on dry and its guaranteed not to bubble.
I had a amber from a bon fire land on my screen. It melted the edge of the screen protector, but my screen was fine.
I just peeled off the protector and used a pocket knife to scrape off the burnt piece.
The protector is very thick, and it would help with the Atrix HD's super sensitive screen thats notorious for selecting icons in the middle of a swipe.

Making this, detailed step-by-step, for those who don't want to dig thru that thread (Hopefully I'm not violating any rules. If so, Mods please replace my original post with this one)
ok I think I've discover the cause of the lift.
Got a replacement due to screen lift and guess what the new one had a slight lift on the lower left.
I figure must be a loose screw, it's not as bad as the old one where the whole left side bulged out.
So I open it and found all the screws to be snug. So I unscrewed the lower left, thinking it's too tight and that's where I discover the cause.
It's not that the screws are too loose, it's that there isn't enough space between the frame & the glass. So the tighter you screw it in, the further you're pushing the screen out, causing the lift.
Here's the simple solution I came up with.

You'll need the following:
Nexus 7 with back cover removed
Pill Blister Pack (Allergy pills from walmart shown)
Small screwdrivers
Scissors and/or knife
Sewing Needle (not pictured)
needle nose pliers OPTIONAL (for those with thick fingers)
First you need to make a hole in the blister for the screw to go thru.
Here I'm using a sewing machine like a drill press to create my hole.
Next, cut out a rectangle and use your small screwdriver (Bigger than the needle, but smaller than the screw)
This will make the hole bigger for the screw to fit. While blister is still on screwdriver, use your knife and run it around the excess plastic created by the screwdriver.
Remove the blister and trim the corners so that it'll fit in the round frame
Remove the screw from the frame and slide the blister in between the frame
Screw the screw back snug, DON'T OVER TORQUE IT!
Right away the screen lift is gone where the blister is installed. Repeat for each screw where the screen is lifting up.
Cut away the excess so you can put the cover back on
Don't cut it flush to the frame, leave a little so you can grab it and remove it if you need to.
OPTIONAL - use a flathead to push that little bit down to eliminate any chance of obstructing the back cover.
Snap the back cover back on and enjoy your flush screen.
depending on how much lift you have, you might have to use 2 or more to fill the gap. But beware, the more you add the thicker the frame will be and you might run into issues with the back cover not fitting snug.
Looks interesting, might give this a whirl later.
ya!

Yes thank you man, I tried it when you first posted it yesterday, I can vouch for the fix in this thread as i did the previous one, so happy that it is working for me and several others, it is well worth the 10-20 minutes to perform the fix.
I wish this would work on mine, but my problem is clearly related to a bad adhesive job. I'm almost tempted to re-glue it myself considering there is nothing else wrong with the thing but I'll give Google one more chance to send me a perfect one.
How about a donation link? I'd like to buy you a beer or 2 for your fix.
Wonderful job with the pictures man, they really helped. I can confirm that this works perfect for me too. I just did not but the tablet immediately feels better. No squishyness at all. With the previous fix (tightening the screws) the screen still felt squishy. Nothing now. It feels just as sturdy as the right hand side.

I initially thought mine may have been adhesive related.. but turns out after this fix, it really is not.
Edit: id highly suggest giving this a try, it isnt difficult, probably cannot be detected as "user modification" if you remove the makeshift washers. If you dont want to that's your call, but i think the problem is still fixable with this method.

I really would give this a shot...I'm convinced the issue is not adhesive related. My tab doesn't actually have a screen lift issue... it has been making a crunching sound that i discovered is actually just the black tape/insulation that the little black foam piece is glued to. If you remove the back cover and just fiddle with that black insulation you should hear the crunching i described. I am 90% sure that the crunching sound people are reporting is really not going to affect your devices integrity at all. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that one.
So far so good. Let's see whether it stays that way or not. The left side feel solid now

I just opened up my buddy's N7 with him, and check this out. It looks like the N7 already has some type of circular washers in this spot. OP, and those of you who have done this - did your N7s have these circular washers as well, or was that space totally hollow? I couldn't tell from your pictures. I've attached pictures so you can see what I'm talking about. It doesn't look like there's room in here to add the blister pack washers you guys are talking about, unless I really have to struggle to shove them in. Is it possible some N7s were missing these washers?

No, those were there on all of them. Those do not come out as far as i can tell. The blister washer goes in between the black round part and the back plate where the screw enters. Its snug but it should be, this will allow you to snug up the screws and alleviate the pressure on the screen. People seem to forget that only adhesive would not cause glass to bend, it would just sit loose but not protrude upward without a force behind it.
I just did what op did and everything is working fine. Fantastic work!

You, sir, are brilliant. I just did the fix and it seems to be holding well. I'll see how it is tomorrow but the logic behind it seems solid.
Thank you for sharing!
Performed the fix, and it seems to have fixed the problem on my friend's N7. The OP is smarter than stinking Asus! Bravo.
One minor issue on the N7 I did this on is the back doesn't seem to be completely flush with the bezel now in the area with the washers, but this beats the screen lifting.
Have people allowed enough time after performing this and rechecked their screens? Everyone was saying retorquing the screws was the fix, and it initially looked like it did help, but eventually the screen came back up.
Thanks for the fix, but to be honest all this seems to be ridiculous, there should be no defect in a product you had to pay good money for. I'm hoping a fix comes soon out of the box.

Please post pictures with NO screen separation issue?

I want to see what a good one looks like on the left side. How flushed it truly is compared to the right. That way I know exactly how it should be. Going to be returning mine again for the 3rd time. 3rd time is always the charm yes? Also. Can you please post the start of the SSN number? Mine is a C60K
ERM, just look at the right side? That's how it should look.
The replacement I got today looks the same all the way around from every angle.
That is a hard picture to take..

Yesterday I received my third unit with screen lifting as well, and I would also like to see one that's completely flush.
May I suggest that if you are willing to go through the trouble of doing this, perhaps also grab a shot of the bezel test -- looking across the display from the right side and using the left bezel as a horizon. If the black display interrupts the thin silver line of the left bezel, the screen is lifting.
I don't have a good camera, but here is a photo of my second tablet failing the bezel test.
If your screen is completely flush, you should be able to photograph an intact silver line from a much lower, more horizontal perspective.

That looks pretty bad.
Like I said, it is a hard picture to take, The angle, holding it in one hand while taking the picture with the other, flash etc... If I was home, I could use my lightbox and stand and get a much better picture without the need of a flash and get a better all along photo of it. But here... not so much so it looks more deceiving than it actually is.
When I look at the screen with two hands and compare it all the way around it is flush with nothing sticking up on all sides.

People are getting returns because of that?
That's hilarious.

Mine certainly does not look the same as the right side, top and bottom being completely flush. Now I know it should be flush all around being able to see the silver lining all around. I kinda imagined it would be a little hard to take pics showing completely flush. Since this will be my 3rd one from wal-mart. If this 3rd one has the problem. I give up and will just wait until they get more in. Give it a couple weeks or so.

Google considers units with any adhesive separation whatsoever to be DOA. The left side should be as flush as the right.
Since people are reporting that it gets worse over time, there's no reason not to be cautious.
My second one, looks its good!

I would consider this to be seperation. If there was none, you wouldn't be able to see the side of the glass at all.
You can probably squeeze the tablet on the side there to and it would feel spongy.

My screen looks exactly like this and damn you guy. I never would have even noticed it if there wasn't so much talk.

you don't even have to look to see if there's separation, you just need to feel it. touch the right side and you can feel the silver frame sticking out. then touch the left side and you will just feel the glass
I never knew this was a problem. I just checked my unit and I guess that I lucked out. It's perfect on all edges.

Mine is also perfect, bought from Staples. First batch. I hope you guys get the Nexus you deserve. I probably would buy something else if I had to continually replace for defects. Much respect for those of you who have the patience to wait it out.

You know that it's fixable right? Just pop the back cover off and tighten the screws around the edge. Use a little thread lock so they won't back out again.

It really would be helpful if someone could post photographic evidence of a flush left side.
I understand that this is a bit of a chore, but it is the purpose of the thread.
Krelvinaz has posted a quality photo of what he believes to be a perfectly flush display, but the edge of his glass appears to be visible.
Luchoster uploaded two photos, but in most cases the screen lift isn't particularly noticeable at the corners, so I'm not sure what the reason for focusing on them was. Also, the reflection in those pictures is more disorienting than any single frame of the movie Inception.
I'm on my second replacement now, and haven't decided what to do next. At this point, it's starting to seem like a possibility that everyone has at least a minor amount of screen lift, and that perfect units are an observational error. On the other hand, there are many people here who should know exactly what to look for and who have claimed to have one.
Ideally, I would like to see a high quality photo of a bezel test from a low angle. That would be the most conclusive image possible.
That is probably the best my amateur hands can do with my Galaxy Nexus camera without daylight.

Ravyn, if I were going to take anyone's word about their unit being flush, it would be yours.
But that picture proves more about the right side than the left. See how the right bezel is uninterrupted in the background?
If the right side of the display were higher, it would break that silver line.
Could you please post one similar to that with the right side facing you? Try to lower the perspective if you can, but that angle is pretty good.

How to remove 'creaks', 'squeaks', 'sponginess' & 'bulge'

Double sided tape (mines was about 1/32" thick)
Electrical tape
Knife (not shown)
(Since I had these already, the fix was free for me)
Open up your nexus 7
and put the tape as shown:
On the right side of the back (where the buttons are) cut about 1/4" of tape so you'll have a strip that's 1/4" wide and 1" long (the roll of tape is an inch thick)
Put your cover next to the nexus and trim the tape so that it will not touch the 'grooves' on the frame (I've marked it in red). and stick them to the back cover just below the level of the clips.
This will get rid of the 'creaks' & some of the sponginess on the right side.
click for close up
[1] This is what's cause the bulge on the left side. The border around the wifi antenna is hitting the 2nd screw. So take an knife and CAREFULLY trim it flush to the back. You don't have to trim it all, a good 1/4" will do. (note. I have a washer under the 2nd screw to fix the screen lift)
[2] the tape on the left side over the Touchscreen cable is what cause the 'creaks'. So use some Electrical tape and cover this area up. MAKE SURE NOT TO OVERLAP. You don't want any extra thickness in this area, you just want to hold down the existing tape from moving.
(I don't have any tape on mine since I don't have noise issue there)
Now on to the battery. This is what cause most of the sponginess and some of the creak on the right side. If you tap or press where the 'X' is on the back cover you'll know what I'm talking about.
Use your finger and feel where the battery ends and the wire area begins (I marked it with a blue line to show where the battery ends) This will give you an approximation on how long your double sided tape will be. From the frame to the battery.
Put your cover on top (as shown) to figure out how WIDE the tape will be. You want to leave a gap for the foam on the back cover (marked in red)
You might have to add another, smaller layer on top of your tape. If you push on your double sided tape and it goes below the frame, then you need to add that smaller piece to make it flush to the frame.
Here's a close up of what I'm talking about.
I also added a large piece (the size of the empty slot on top) from the motherboard to the top of the battery. Since the metal frame ends half way, this will make up the gap.
Put your cover on from LEFT to RIGHT (side with the buttons on last)
Now these are the spots that were giving me the most noise and sponginess, yours might be different. If you still hear a noise, note the spot and see if adding tape near that area will help.
BONUS TIP: If a game/app requires you to use it in landscape mode. First hold it in landscape mode on the right side, so that the camera is on your right instead of your left. Disable Autorotate screen to lock it in landscape mode. Now open your game/app and it'll run on the right side instead of default left.
WHY DO THIS?
Like most I had screen lift, so I did not want to put added stress on the left side of the screen.
Since the right side just have battery, I think it's also structurally more sound than the left where all the electronics are.
Also, since the processors are on the left side, it gets pretty toasty when running graphic intensive games, so holding it on the right side will keep your hands cool and allowing the heat to dissipate better/faster without your warm hands in the way.

I don't do OT anymore. Reddit. But I used to love your stuff man. Haven't seen it in a while tho obviously. Anyways, did ur fix. Seems better for sure.
This is absurd, that anyone would even consider doing this after paying $249.99 or $199.99 of their hard earned cash.
Too each their own. I'm an engineering student and I completely understand the appeal of finding solutions yourself even when you can return a product. This is one of the reasons I come to xda. Thanks for the tips and pics OP.

Absurd to save yourself an RMA ticket you might need later for a GOOD reason, fix your device yourself for less than five bucks, get to root around under the hood, and all without voiding your warranty?
What's absurd is your sense of entitlement.
Will it void the warranty (provided I remove them IF I need to hand it back)?
I just got my second Nexus 7 and this one seems to have squeaking issues in bottom left (sounds like in the back case, not screen) and I was thinking of opening it up but not sure about warranty...

Entitlement? I don't think there's anything entitled about expecting to receive a product free of defects, and exchanging it if it is not.
Also, what's this about saving RMA tickets you might need later? The warranty says you get a device free of defects, not you get a limited number of RMA tickets to get your device free of defects.
I guess you could ship it out to china and wait three weeks for them to do the exact same thing for free, or DIY in 10 minutes plus the cost of some supplies that most people already have laying around the house. Most people around on XDA are do it yourselfers, get used to it
I did something very similar with 3M to mine awhile back, except I just applied it above the battery. It fixed any flex, though I think I used a bit too thick 3M, as mine has a bulge in the back cover now.
Anyway, thanks for the post. The pictures and everything make it very easy to follow.

opening up the back cover will not void any warranty.
nothing in this mod should void any warranty, with exception of step one, the bulge fix (which you don't have)

Manufacturers tend to cut their losses and cut you loose from the RMA process after a couple of RMAs. Usually, they do so by offering you a full refund for returning your product, but I've seen a few cases where they just say "You are abusing the RMA process and we won't service your device(s) anymore. Take it to a repair shop".
I never knew creaking was a defect considering its made out of plastic.... I would hate to be a manufacturer that had to deal with all these over exaggerated claims lol.
