Update around the bend? - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Just read on intomobile.com that the One is getting an update overseas and that the states could be soon to follow. If you're interested I provided a link to the story:

Still no 4.2. No biggie. It'll get here.

I doubt that it'll come anytime soon. On the S3 the international version got premium suite about 8 months ago and the carrier versions got it just yesterday. And HTC is even slower to release updates than Samsung

Actually, Sprint's been pretty darn fast with HTC Software updates. The Evo was amazing!

Yeah, but there was no international version of the EVO. And here, on the other hand, there is an international version of the One

The EVO (all of them) were just rebranded Int'l phones. The Evo 4G LTE was the HTC One X (or similar variant - can't remember exactly). The Evo 3D was the only world wide launched "Evo" while the rest were just a new name on an HTC flagship.

Maybe, but think of it in terms of updates. They're going to push updates for the international versions before the carrier versions because they dont need to go through extra steps. And they dont need to make sure that its working with the chipset, bands, etc.

Out of these I would only Be interested in the N1, the rest are either CDMA or I just don't like. I'm already looking for a good N1 deal.
i have N1 very good phone
have a look on ebay
Found one on CL for $425
For now I settled on the N1, buying tomorrow. Will play with it...for now. IS it me or did the smartphone market slow down and Verizon is getting all the awesome Android phones? lol
Verizon has SOOOOOOO many smartphones compared to my carrier... AT&T and every other carrier!
Llamas like smartphones.
Apparently
Oh really.... Is this gonna be an issue
I think only purple llamas like smartphones yet, lol

Canada version only one with chrome trimming?

I was looking at a review of the HTC Incredible S on HowardForums. The guy in the video has a Bell HTC Incredible S and his has chrome trimming around the display, earpeice grill, usb port, camera lens, and microphone opening on the back. Is the Canada version the only one with chrome trimming or does anybody with an International version have chrome trimming?
http://www.howardforums.com/content.php/488-HTC-Incredible-S-Review
why would they destroy an already good looking phone with that?...thats like when people put chrome trim everywhere on their truck...

My UK version does not have the chrome, I do like the way the canadian version looks though.
Not really feeling the chrome...at least I have a way to tell the difference between my phone (got mine from HK) and the ones released here in Canada.
Personally I prefer the all black look.

Does the IS that you picked from HK support Canadian 3G Bands (850/1900)? Or are you using it only through the GSM bands?

GSM bands only, I'm running on EDGE. Not too worried about it though as I use wifi pretty much everyday though, at school and home. I do think that EDGE on my old Blackberry 9700 runs faster than the IS though.

Hey! I resemble that remark! Not overboard, but I got the package on my Z71.

Also, is the model number just Z71? I notice a bunch of IS model S710E on ebay, but none with the NAM 3G frequencies.

INTERNATIONAL variants are receiving their 4.2.2 updates. No one in the states has an official build or a leaked US build last I checked. The bulk of international carriers used GSM. These devices differ from the U.S. GSM devices but in most cases can easily be chopped up and hacked to be put on U.S. variants (see AT&T one x+ for proof that it does not always work....).
HTC is a company NOT based in the U.S. and we are NOT their primary source of income therefore we are not their top priority. Additionally U.S. Carriers have MUCH more control compared to international carriers and are usually the cause of a hold up on official updates. Complaining we don't have a leak means HTC and the carriers are doing their job stopping untested and un proven builds from entering the hands of users,
Being on a CDMA phone that is NOT on verizon as of yet it is impossible to have much hope of leaks or work for the devices as we are on the #4 carrier in the United States (or #3 depending how you want to look at it). In many phones cases we get the GSM version ported only as long as it is simple to do for the developers.

Do keep in mind though that Sprint, while #4 in size has traditionally only been a step or so behind GSM carriers, especially when compared to Verizon, in releasing their updates. Little Yellow tends to beat Big Red in that regard by comfortable margins.

Definitely. Sprint has been on top of updates. The only reason we see delays is because it's not a one-sided thing, the carrier AND manufacturer have to work together on it.

Also, everyone should nkow that GSM is an old outdated technology. CDMA is newer and better. The only downside is you would need the Qualcomm SoC (forget which one but the ELTE has it), like that you can do SVD. But GSM is just plain horrible, and old. Yes, Sprint has had issues for the passed three years (isolated ones, nothing major). But you need to remember that Sprint has always been the first for everything. They took a huge hit back with the whole Clearwire, WiMax, GPS + airplanes issue. They fixed the issue, and we have had to suffer a slight loss of 3G bandwidth due to it.
They are once more becoming the first with yet another feat, the Netwok Vision upgrade. All frequencies... One band. I mean, if you guys could understand the complexity (and sheer AWESOMENESS) of what is being done, you wouldn't give a crap that you are down one revision of one OS, 4.1.2 -> 4.2.2 ... Big whoop. The only thing getting that upgrade means is you can put new widgets in new places? And no source for kernel dropped? Which even when the source drops, bluetooth will be broken. That takes alot of time from the devs to cook in working bluetooth after theyve been giving a borked copy of the source. So now, put those last bits together... As the kernel is where the party is at. 4.2.2? BIG WHOOP. 4.2.2 with stock kernel... I would rather be on ICS with Anthrax.
Stop crying/worrying/wondering/caring/w-e about the update... Just download an app that does whatever you need from 4.2.2, and enjoy. And yes, there is an app to do whatever you may need... There's an app for that.
In the off-chance that somehow there is no app for it (there will be an app for it), learn to make an app, and make the app alert you of things you want done, but there are no apps for it yet. By the time you get that app out, we will be on Sprint 4.2.2 Sense5, custom kernel, and still the same fracking radio.img! (A new radio is the only thing I can see as an upgrade for this phone).
/endunrantofoprant.
I just want the kernel so we can run the GE. Love sense but love simplicity too. And before anyone links to an aosp Rom or CM... I mean something fully functional with everything working AS IT SHOULD.

You realize LTE is the progression of GSM? Where did you get your information CDMA is a superior technology. Qualcomm abandoned their extension of CDMA into the 4G realm. I'm pretty sure you're misinformed.
What Sprint is doing with their NV upgrades is good, but I can assure you CDMA isn't where you want to be.

Your comment about GSM being outdated and inferior to CDMA is probably one of the most ludicrous claims I have ever seen.... Especially when LTE we all want so badly is based off of this technology and is REQUIRED for it to work.... Hence the added SIM cards in Sprint and Verizon phones.... That single fact alone makes your comment flat out wrong.

i work for sprint, so i feel like eventually the warehouse will run out of mono-band and start using the tri-band s4 as replacements. ive known the S4's were switched to the tri-band since it was announced, i just wanted to let everyone know (who didnt already) that us existing S4's are getting screwed over!

More than likely yes. Here's hoping Sprint actually FINISHES the LTE rollout for all bands instead of doing the half-assed job they did with WiMAX.

I think I have one, but I'm not sure.
When Sprint came out with 4.4.2.Kit Kat two days ago, everybody was posting that you needed MK2 software to get the download.
When I checked, my software is L720TVPUAMK5. My model shows as SPHL 720T, and on the box it's SPHL 720TWT.
When I asked about it, someone said I had a new Sparks.
I'm pretty much in the dark on all this.
Will I still get the Kit Kat download?
Does Austin, TX broadcast the new LTE?
Do I have something better? Or just a gimmick?
Is there anything important to know?

Accidental thanks. Anyways you will not get KitKat right now as this update is for the regular L720. There isndifferemt software for the T model. For example when we first noticed a MK5 software we regular phone people thought we would be able to use it but turns out we can't.
You will eventually get KitKat.
As far as Dallas having spark network, I don't know. I just know LA, San Fran, NYC, Chicago , and Miami were the first to start deployment.

Thanks, There's a lot of good info.
Until the network is really ready - and it will vary by market - be careful what you wish for with Spark. Its been alluded to already, but in many cases this can be a step backward.

So wait.... I just bought this thing two weeks ago from the sprint store, and my model number is the 720, not 720T. Did they seriously give me one of the old versions even though the new ones have been out since mid December?

Yes. Because the stores have the regular ones still. And only online at sprint.com were you able to get the T model.

HTC One vs Evo LTE: LTE signals

I have had several phone replacements, and I am currently eligible an upgrade. I am considering between the One and the S4. So I just want to know, is the LTE signal for the One better than the Evo? For those of you who still have your Evo, can you post screenshots of the Signal difference the two using the app SignalCheck Lite (or a similar app)?
I really, really prefer Sense, but the LTE signal for the Evo was very disappointing. Also, knowing that the S4 will support Sprint Spark, it is now an option in my mind. Granted, Sense 5 takes precedence, because I don't like TouchWiz, and I don't really want to use AOSP every time I use my phone.
I didn't see another related thread, as I am discerning when posting new threads, especially when posting in the forum of a device that I don't own...yet.
Thoughts, comments?

If you like Sense and want Spark. Get a One Max. Also, only the newest model S4s get spark. The older model is not triband capable. I keep very good LTE nearly everywhere now especially since the update to Kit Kat.
I'm not exactly sold on the One Max as yet...and the upgrade price is more than the S4 and One combined.

Personally, I would wait a month for the refreshed HTC One

I have not checked the sprint nexus 5 forums to see how that phone is faring but it also supports spark. You can buy from Sprint or directly from Google store and it will activate on Sprint. Just mentioning the phone but do not have opinion myself.

I believe 16GB is $349 and 32GB is $399.
I would wait for the m8 to be released. But I came from the evo lte and the One definitely holds its lte better. That was my major gripe with the evo lte.
The Mrs has a note 2 and I see her phone switching back n forth between 3g and 4g much more often then my One.

It I'm going to pay that much, then I'll upgrade to the One Max for less money.

I understand. Was just throwing that out there. It is not an upgrade, you will not extend contract. Plus you want Sense and this one would be pure Android since it is Google.
Best of luck with whatever you do. I am happy with the HTC One and do not know what it will take to pry this out of my old, cold hands....

A free HTC One 2 will. Anyway, thanks for the response. My phone is beginning to fail me, and I do not think that I can wait for the new One to be announced (not released, mind you) in March. I'm pretty sure that I'm not getting it anyway.
And since this is my phone, and not to be shared, I don't think that I'm ready for Samsung.
