So, don't break your phone, you'll get a replacement mono-band S4, not the Tri-band.

Also, I know they announced it a while back, but has anyone actually seen one in the wild? There was no release and they are not listed anywhere to buy. The website still has the mono-band S4. If you have a link to one for sale from Sprint, please post it.

i work for sprint, so i feel like eventually the warehouse will run out of mono-band and start using the tri-band s4 as replacements. ive known the S4's were switched to the tri-band since it was announced, i just wanted to let everyone know (who didnt already) that us existing S4's are getting screwed over!

Well, isn't that nice. Their website must do regional things or something because I don't see Spark capable listed on the phone page online. Eitherway, that's great to hear!
EDIT, yeah nevermind, see it now. Must have been living under a rock. Sorry guys.

The S5 is right around the corner you know. Wonder if that will have the spark bands?

More than likely yes. Here's hoping Sprint actually FINISHES the LTE rollout for all bands instead of doing the half-assed job they did with WiMAX.

we just got LTE in PHX and its really nice. We never got WIMAX here. So just be a little patient. :|

Just so you know, when they added the Triband to the S4, it broke simultaneous data and voice on LTE. So if you someone that needs that, don't get to excited about this new variant. Also, no wifi and simultaneous voice has been reported.

I think I have one, but I'm not sure.
When Sprint came out with 4.4.2.Kit Kat two days ago, everybody was posting that you needed MK2 software to get the download.
When I checked, my software is L720TVPUAMK5. My model shows as SPHL 720T, and on the box it's SPHL 720TWT.
When I asked about it, someone said I had a new Sparks.
I'm pretty much in the dark on all this.
Will I still get the Kit Kat download?
Does Austin, TX broadcast the new LTE?
Do I have something better? Or just a gimmick?
Is there anything important to know?

Accidental thanks. Anyways you will not get KitKat right now as this update is for the regular L720. There isndifferemt software for the T model. For example when we first noticed a MK5 software we regular phone people thought we would be able to use it but turns out we can't.
You will eventually get KitKat.
As far as Dallas having spark network, I don't know. I just know LA, San Fran, NYC, Chicago , and Miami were the first to start deployment.

I can wait for Kit Kat, at least now I know why it isn't pushing to me.
I can also wait for the tri band rollout. I get 30 Meg download on my home network.

Until the network is really ready - and it will vary by market - be careful what you wish for with Spark. Its been alluded to already, but in many cases this can be a step backward.

I'm not gonna ruin the Nexus 5, by putting it on Sprints network. Hello T-Mobile!
I work at Sprint and I play with all the new devices when they launch. First impression of the Nexus was it felt cheap. And the fact that it's made by LG this time just backs up the why the quality somewhat trash. The obnoxious circle phone speaker in the front was hideous. I thought it was a front facing speaker like HTC's One but it was an in call speaker. It looked like a knock off of all the phones that are out.
I did enjoy playing with the camera. A lot of new stuff that I want sure how to use yet but first impression was that the camera would be 1 of the key selling points for the phone. I had mixed feelings about the gigantic app icons but like I said it was my first impression so they could grow on me.
The feel of the phone in terms of performance wasn't bad. My GS4 is smoother with scrolling but I am stock rooted with stock kernel and debloated so Im pretty sure once this phone is too then it will be smooth as well. I did like how apps would open very quickly. Not much faster than my GS4 but was noticeable.
Honestly the phones performance isn't something to debate about because it is very resposnsive. And the Google Now feature is dope as well, but the feel and look of the phone just felt cheap like it was made from recycled parts or something. Just my 2 cents. The phone is a decent LG quality phone. If you like LG then go for it.

So I had been toying with the idea of going from S4 -> N5, and went to the sprint store to play with N5. It does feel snappy. Just like when I install a fresh new rom on S4. Though Google Now fc on me on the N5.
Next I loaded up the same web page on both devices and noted that the page pan was not that significantly different.
Not convinced quite yet, but I may change my mind later. Still waiting for the ipad air to arrive which would keep me entertained for a while.

T-Mobile absolutely has LTE. And theirs is at least 20 times faster than Sprint's LTE here. I'm on Sprint LTE at home, and I just got 124 kbps down and 300 up. That's actually pretty good for their LTE! And it's been launched here for a few months. I guess that's what you get when you launch LTE handsets before you even have an LTE network to use them on anywhere in the nation. Once it's turned on, there are thousands of handsets sucking down the bandwidth as soon as it's turned on. Would probably help if they weren't running each tower off of one single Comcast cable modem...
Obviously that last part isn't true. but they shouldn't be selling or having LTE service here, if 124 kbps is there idea of LTE.

Than LTE hasn't been officially riled out yet in your area.it well get better. I typically get between 15-30mbs down and 10-15mbs up on Sprint LTE and my area is only 75 percent rolled out. When I first started getting LTE in my area I would only get 1-2mbs down. Hang in there and it will get better. Also, all carriers sell their LTE phones before the network is built out.

Nexus 5 on Verizon [POLL]

What do you think about the Nexus 5 coming to Verizon

I want it to happen really bad but I know it probably won't. Verizon will never let Google have the software control they need because CDMA.
I really wish I didn't have unlimited data. Otherwise I'd pick a new carrier.

If it comes to Verizon their going to screw it up somehow, someway!!:crying:
My prediction is it'll come compatible with Verizon's network, but Verizon will refuse to activate it and beat around the bush about why they won't, when they are obviously trying to find a way that they can install bloatware or otherwise screw with the device.
Just look what happened when deb came out.

Well, a device without Verizon Navigator is not much of a device at all. They are just looking out for their customers and want to give them the best experience that they can.

I REALLY want it to come to verizon.. The only reason why I'm still with vzw is because its either them, Alltel, or Southern Linc. And as ****ty as it is, vzw is the best of those :/
My gnex is getting old and tired and I would relaly like to replace it with the N5. But time will tell. I'm not very optimistic though...
I know this will be a bit selfish, but I hope it won't come to Verizon. They messed everything up, will remove Google Wallet, add their own bloatwares and giant ugly logos, not to mention 6months late updates, it will give a bad reputation to the Nexus brand.
However what I wouldn't mind is if Google work with Verizon and Sprint to make a CDMA device but with pure and unadulterated Android without the firmware being messed with, although Verizon would not agree to that, they need to put in CarrierIQ and what not.

Screw Verizon and its users. Yes, Verizon has a great network, but NO it's not worth getting raped by them and having to use their locked down hacked phones and over priced plans.
Verizon and AT&T are the big brothers of the cell industry, their mentality of "You will take what we give you and like it." is killing it for consumers. Yeah T-Mobile and Sprint has worse networks, but the more people that move to them will show the giants they can't operate like that.
I would drop Verizon in a heartbeat if I could. Paying for a single line with 1gb of data and it's right at 100 bucks. And that's with my 17% discount through work! But, I can't drop Verizon... It's either them or alltel for my area...

Thoughts on Download Booster Being Disabled?

Today I posted this on G+:
https://plus.google.com/104522596589171041648/posts/JfBDxdTAjSR
I'd be willing to place down a wager that the +Verizon Wireless and +AT&T variants of the Galaxy S5 will have the download booster feature disabled.
I can't imagine those companies taking very kindly to the idea of using WiFi and LTE simultaneously, just due to the fear of pissed off customers going over their data plans because they had no idea what they were doing. Plus it has the real potential to create even more usage on their networks, which most bigger carriers don't seem to like.
Considering how providers like to push people to use WiFi whenever possible (doesn't ever carrier have a WiFi finder app these days?), yeah, I don't see the big boys taking too kindly to the download booster. I guess we'll find out in a little under 2 weeks.
If my hunch is correct, I'd highly suggest that anyone owning affected variants scream and complain to anyone who will listen. This will hopefully lead to the guilty carriers releasing statements saying "The exclusion of the download booster functionality was an oversight and not intentional. We will fix this issue in a future software update."
Any thoughts?
It better not be. But yes, I can see them doing that. I say, it's my data, let me use it anyway I want to.
---------- Post added at 01:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:06 PM ----------
Well AT&T's sure doesn't mention download booster anywhere on the S5 page. I swear to God if they disabled it I will raise hell. Such a great feature too.
But these larger carriers have to much control. They really shouldn't be able to touch any device or modify it. Only Samsung should do that. If T-Mobile didn't have such spotty coverage by me, I'd be on them in a second ordering my S5 instead of ATT.
Ordering the non carrier version of the S5 isn't an option either because it so conveniently doesn't support bands 4 and 17. WOW
That's because the unlocked international version isn't intended for the US market. It's intended to be sold at retail in other countries and the LTE bands that it suppers reflects that.
Sent from my C6806_GPe using Tapatalk
I don't see why they would do this. If a customer goes over their data usage, that's more money in the carrier's pocket. Playing ignorance isn't an excuse for going over your limit. I don't see why a carrier would hand-hold customers on this issue. Not only that, but I don't see Samsung allowing them to do this, considering this is a pretty major selling point for the S5.
I could be wrong but i would imagine there is a setting you can disable to prevent yourself from constantly using both. So it should be in the purchasers hands hence no reason for AT&T to disable it to prevent data overages. That being said, AT&T is a company that likes to piss everyone off and remove features that are major selling points just because they can.

I can definitely see them doing this. Let me tell you why. AT&T is the only carrier that has brainwashed people in thinking WIFI is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've often had AT&T reps tell me, ya know you really should use WIFI instead of your data. I was like why do I pay for it then? I still have the original AT&T $30 unlimited data plan for smartphones so I don't care, but even with that, they try to tell me to use wifi. I believe its because they don't want the same disaster to happen to their network that happened back in 2009. The network overloaded with all the iPhones. Nowadays, the network is amazing and has no problem with capacity. But I think they instilled it into all their rep's heads to make people use WIFI all the time. I have passed an AT&T store while driving and my phone connects to their crappy WIFI. I even argued with one rep a while back that my mobile internet connection is more stable than their crappy in-store WIFI network.
So yea thats my two cents. I really hope they don't eliminate this awesome feature. I pre-ordered the device on AT&T and will be the first one to post if they did or not when I get it April 8

I preordered an AT&T GS5 as well. I don't think it will replace my Z Ultra GPE as a daily driver, but I'm definitely going to have fun with it.

That's because the unlocked international version isn't intended for the US market. It's intended to be sold at retail in other countries and the LTE bands that it suppers reflects that.

Yea I know. Part of me just wishes there was only 1 GS5 that was a world phone that supported every kind of LTE network.
I did use the International Galaxy S3 years ago on AT&T and it worked great. No bloat, fast updates, and a black dialer. I may sound contradicting here, but now may actually be a great time to buy an HSPA+ only device. The HSPA+ network works great and isn't congested anymore. I occasionally test it out on my iPhone 5S since you can turn LTE off. I always get about 7-10mbps down. Even during calls speeds are now great. But when your getting 50mbps on LTE going back to H+ kinda hurts lol.
I ordered the white GS5. Never owned a white galaxy before. Cant wait to get it.

This feature is a key selling point in Samsung's walk through of the phone, so I'd say it won't be blocked. My thought was actually that I will never use this feature unless it's an emergency" (I. e. need new rom ASAP) or I have a lot of data left for the month. Otherwise, AT&T could be making some nice dough off of people going over their data limits.

I am hoping that there is a way to disable it, as I really don't need it.
As it turns out, I changed my mind.. Cancelled my order and ordered HTC One M8
http://techknowzone.com/how-to-use-download-booster-in-samsung-galaxy-s5/
According to that article, not only can you disable it, but it actually doesnt impact normal web browsing or downloading small files. All the more reason AT&T has no excuse to disable it. For the average consumer, you wont got over your data simply because its on. If you arent downloading files over 30mb, it does nothing.
I'm sure the feature isn't there on the store models. Maybe because no sim card or active data connection

Sure enough went to the AT&T store today and chgecked the s5 that has a sim card in it and couldn't find the download booster.
Super predictable move.

If they disabled that feature then I think its time we start retaliating. I probably will send my pre-order back and go with the International version. The LTE networks are getting bogged down nowadays, while the HSPA+ network is doing great.

[Q] How do you enable T-Mobile WiFi Calling on Nexus 6?

I purchased my Nexus 6 on the Google Play Store and wanted to use the T-Mobile Wifi Calling feature. I know it works with my plan & SIM card because it had been plugged into a iPhone 6 before but now that's in the Nexus 6, I can't find any option to select the feature or does it just work automatically with no indicators?
Not sure this is an option with Nexus devices. I know coming from the Note line it was ROM dependent.. Wasn't supported by most unless it was based off the stock Samsung touchwiz ROM, so it's not inherent in android, but baked in by manufacturers/carriers
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
It will be an option in the future (according to Tmobile) but it's not active yet.
"This hot new smartphone is expected to support Wi-Fi Un-leashed beginning in early 2015 with an over-the-air update– making it the first-ever Nexus device that will support Wi-Fi Calling thanks to enhancements in Android 5.0."

Wifi Calling was one of my favorite features of the Galaxy S3, I am glad this is coming to the N6 sometime next year. T-Mobile isn't the best in my area so this will come in handy big time.
And...of course you already can do wi fi calling with hangouts/google voice.
Really?
I bought this phone even though I don't have t-mobile signal literally in an area the size of a dime on a map. I can walk a block and get 4g, nothing at my house, so fine wifi calling, it has that, t-mobile has that. UH big NO. Godamnit T-mobile for misleading me. I wish some developer could squeeze this out overnight, cause I can't use my phone from home until then. Oh well, *shoots self in foot.

It'll be available early next year. A developer can't just port it to work on our phones as it's closed source.
Couldn't you contact t mobile and get a lte signal Booster from them for free?

They said I have to have 1 bar for it to work, I don't have that, so I asked about their broadband cell station, they said THAT uses wifi calling to work, how freekin stupid.
Honestly, I'm still happy to not have Verizon, but at least they worked here. Seems like false advertising, no where did they say it won't work with wifi calling, in fact there were ads all over the site for that very thing. EERRR. *Grinding Teeth, I have to go like 2 blocks to get signal. No big deal, I mean internet and messaging are redundant, if anyone knows of a way to forward my text messages to my e-mail I would appreciate that. Thank you., pooton, 5 generations removed.
UGH
took forever to set up an account with them, because I had to drive to receive texts! I wish they could fix this, really, how long does it take. I'm sure I could do it in under 20 hours by myself, if I had the knowledge and open source.
wifi calling will be coming feb. 2015 from tmobile for the nexus 6. for now just use hangout/google voice.

Theirs a reason why you won't find the nexus 6 in stock in ANY Tmobile store yet don't ya think? Projected availability in store is Feb...the update is in Feb.. Dont think its coincidence
BTW the android 5.1 update is expected in February. You can bet it will be part of that.. Their not going to do carrier specific updates on a nexus device.. Defeats the point of a nexus device

IMS is still the current standard, and is still open source, regardless if that particular project was abandoned. The basis of IMS is still listed in that project.
UMA is the legacy standard. I keep an old Blackberry Curve because of the ability for seemless handoffs between UMA and cellular signals.

Misleading yes, lying probably. Essentially all T-Mobile branded phones are WiFi capable, this is not T-Mobile branded, is unlocked and even the price are identical to the play store.
I am with you they should have chosen their words more carefully

P9 EVA-L09 Availability?

I've searched on the web, but can't find out if the EVA-L09 model of the P9 is available as yet. If not, does anyone have an idea when the release date would be? And where would one order it from to have it shipped to Canada?
Thanks!
I've been looking out for the P9 EVA-L09 variant too. Unfortunately the EVA-L09 is only just now starting to be released in Europe so they're not widely available yet. There's at least one UK seller (listed on US Amazon and US eBay) that wants a ridiculous US$989 for an EVA-L09. I'm guessing it'll be a month or so before there's enough EVA-L09s available so that the price will become more reasonable.
What's interesting is that the EVA-L09 is listed on amazon.de (549 Euros) with a note that it cannot be shipped to the US. Huawei really doesn't want the phone to go to the US it seems.
It looks as if you have an S7 already so you could wait the three months or so for the price to come down.
I saw this on eBay. I don't know if it's really an EVA-L09.

I think it's common to have delays from sellers abroad (abroad for me at least) so I wouldn't be too worried yet. It might also be a delayed shipping tracking update too.

What kind of speeds are you seeing? Not sure why it says 4G, but technically LTE is 4G...
It's pretty fast but I thought it would say LTE by the end of it, really strange, this model has all the LTE bands for MetroPCS, which is Band 2,4 and 12. Checked under settings and it's on LTE/WCDMA/GSM auto, so is there a settings you have to trip in order for LTE to show up behind 4G or what, i got this model because it's the only one with NFC and was only $500, I love the phone, much more powerful then my old P7.

I have the chinese version and no matter what theme you put on, it never says LTE. On top of that you get 2 x 4G indicators. One for the 4G/LTE and the other is for the reception. Really annoying. See the screenshot. Does the same thing on wi-fi also. I spoke to Paul O'Brien which I am sure most of you all know who he is. He has the euro version and you do not get the 2 x 4G thingie or a 4G icon on top of the reception bars when you are on wi-fi.
I also have an issue with trying to install Fenix. Play store shuts down the second I click on Install. It only happens with Fenix. Odd stuff here and there.

I have this same exact problem! It's the only app I use that does this. I was sure it was due to a faulty restore from backup but now I know it's the phone.
