Extremely unlikely, at the very least there is the IR blaster that the ZL has, flashing a Z ROM if it would work at all would not likely allow you to use the IR blaster. Ultimately you may need to try some rarely used ancient techniques for determining such things, searching (the ZL forums would be a good start) and reading (again, the ZL forums would be a good start).

Simply: no you can't. Never flash another's device roms on a different model, no matter how similar they are.

Just find a proper ZL Rom. The Z and ZL are similar but still different. As someone mentioned the IR blaster and as well Sony's water resistance warning, few other things are to be considered too like dedicated camera button on the ZL which the Z doesn't have.
Best of luck.

This is not entirely true, flashing other phone ROM's onto similar hardware is done on many devices.
What should be said it that it is not recommended, and as previously mentioned you will obviously loose some of the features of the Xperia XL because the drivers will not exist in the Xperia Z ROM.

don't try it bro, it won't even boot-up
honestly, if you want custom ROM, just get the T instead of TX
T got more dev support here
i had the wrong decision myself buying a TX(i'm also a flashaholic and a CM fan)
maybe in time, TX wll have more custom ROM but not at the moment

Yup, no CM10 yet for TX, though FXP devs said on their website they will support it eventually.
Hold on to your S3 first bro, it is still better(or on par) than other phones available around. And this year is all about 1080p screen LOL. Wait a bit for those phones when it's already available in the store shelves. And don't forget also about the much anticipated S4 hehehe.

Thanks bro. You know that feeling I was so excited awhile ago. Lol. I see jelly bean isn't available yet for T / TX maybe that's why. Will need to wait first for cm10. I'm sure there will be many cfw available.
But need to sell this s3 before the price go down when s4 releases.
Btw, only differences of T and TX are removable battery and lte right?

I just made a good deal and straight swapped my S3 to TX. Damn, the stock fw is 100x better than the S3 IMO. Not much bloatware compared to that, and screen is amazing. Will just patiently wait for JB and CM10 for TX. First off, will need to root the device. How do I determine that my bootloader is unlocked? This is sim-free phone.

See the sticky in all in one thread in q&a section by greg, everything is there.
To quickly know if your phone is bootloader-unlockable, input this in your dial pad, *#*#7378423#*#* then choose service info, then configuration, there you will see at rooting status:bootloader unlock allowed:yes(then you may start unlocking the bootloader on Sony dev site, just follow the procedure there)

No need to root if you are going to unlock your bootloader.
That "rooting status:bootloader unlock allowed:yes" refers to unlocking the bootloader whilst "rooting" the device using the runme.bat method just gives you superuser access.
They are different things,
If you unlock your ootloader, then just flash an insecure kernel, you automatically then get root access.

If you are not on 7.0.A.0.305 then you need to flash that first. Then follow Black97ones guide to update without losing root.

if you're not familiar yet with flashtool software with Xperia phones and if you don't mind unlocking your bootloader already(which may void your warranty), just go here to Sony dev site and follow procedure to unlock
after unlock, just fastboot an insecure kernel(w/ CWM), i used this -->> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922925
then flash this SU binary in CWM -->> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35641834&postcount=91
otherwise, just follow greg's advise in Q&A
Thanks, great. Will just unlock the bootloader. Btw, if jelly bean arrives do we need to unroot to recieve OTA updates?

[Q] Xperia SP 4.2 ,4.3 And 5 Updates

Hello guys i was wondering when 4.2 update for the Xperia Sp wll be released by Sony. Also when is 4.3 and 5.0 comming ?
Sony is skipping 4.2.2 for the SP and it will get 4.3 soon. 5 isn't released and we will have to pray and hope that Sony will ever give us that update.

Thanks for your answer and it seems pretty logical that Sony skiped the 4.2.2 but Xperia Sp was designed as a Mid to High End device so i am pretty sure that we will have to put custom roms in it after 5.3
Right ?

As I said, I think we would be lucky if we even got 5.0. But lets hope FXP and other developers will still develop CyanogenMod and other popular roms for the SP.

When i was going to buy a new phone i was between Xperia T and Xperia SP and i went with the SP (better proccessor , more recent device , larger screen , better ppi , Adreno 320)
And someone in the forum mentioned that its is more possible that Xperia T will get the 5.0 update than Xperia SP so i thought that was right ,,,,
We aren't sure if or when 5.0 will be released and I'm 100% sure that the SP will get the update rather than the T.

Ok thats good to hear :laugh::laugh:
Stop making assumptions, no one knows if the SP or T will or not get 5.0, because it's not even released... 4.3 just came out. But I assure you won't get screwed by Qualcomm like in the S because they wouldn't drop support on the Moto X chip that quickly

It should be for Z1s, ask on iHackers or monx thread but I'm quite sure, even if you can use Z1 ROM, you'll have to flash Z1s kernel.
It's possible that you need few extra things in ROM as well (etc folder could be different as well)... So dev has to change that and adapt ROM for Z1s.

You mean like flash a 6903 firmware on a 6902? Probably not a great idea. Might just be a soft brick, but definitely not worth the chance of a hard brick. Why would you want to do this anyways? Seems like a lot of risk for basically no advantage....

but as I got to gain knowledge I learned
There is more than just flashing a ROM, all are device specific with kernel

That certainly won't work. It's different hardware. Even if the soc is the same there's other hardware and drivers that are different (such as the screen difference). That would be almost certainly a hard brick (if it even flashes at all). I would not try. But if you're that brave then post the results. You aren't the first person opening a thread to ask this but as far as i know no one has been brave enough to actually try
