3G on T-Mobile? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm considering buying an unlocked S3 mini. Can anyone using this on T-Mobile confirm that you can get 3G data please?

Drops from H+ to 3G or loses data completely?
This is off topic but how is the GPS on this phone for navigation? I currently have at&t Galaxy Note1 and it's GPS is spot on compared to my Captivate (Galaxy S1) which was horrible at best

[Q] i9300 or i9305?

I don't really know which one to choose really, I doubt I'd be need to open that many tasks considering 1GB of RAM is a lot, many just like a couple of games, facebook, messaging, youtube. what are your opinions?
do you need LTE?

I'm not sure, cause if i do get the phone, my mom might switch to Red Pocket (dunno if you guys have heard of it) but apparently its based off of AT&T networks, so idk if data would be LTE or not
I9305. Even more future proof. But the development section is still young.

T-Mobile.
I'm getting good data speeds on my device. It depends on what area you live in.

2G only mode

Guys/Girls,
For some strange reason I don't have an option for GSM (2G mode) only, I'm on three, anyone else have this same issue?
The problem I have is in my house my signal isn't great, I flick between 3G to browse the internet (as have no WiFi atm until Sky install it), but most of the time my phone will switch to 2G (roaming) which I have almost full signal when this happens. Though when I need to switch from 2G or 3G our visa versa the only way I can do it is search for network's then choose 3G or 2G on three, is there an alternative method?
I've downloaded tasker so I can set up my phone to switch to 2G and stay in that mode when I get home, when I get WiFi, though I'm trying to get my head around it atm. Can tasker solve my problem with a widget etc?
Thanks in advance!

Three is a 3g only network
2g used to be available as a fallback when there was no 3 network but this ended a year or 2 ago

That makes perfect sense now, not sure why I didn't think of that. Though my phone still falls back to a 2G network it just means I don't get a choice if it does it or not.

You can try to change it by entering *#*#4636#*#* in dial pad under phone information.

Awesome! That worked a treat! Now do you know if I can set tasker to run a task like that?
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Sorry no idea about tasker.
Sent from my C6602 using xda premium
For tasker you need to be rooted. You need to resign the rom then you can install toggle 2g by themasterbarron which gives a plug in to work with tasker

You are lucky.. Where am the fall back was totally removed so there was no 2g service of any type as there is reasonable 3g coverage. But the signal never carried into my house
3 will remove the ability country wide at some point because the 2g service is provided by another carrier by roaming agreements which obviously costs 3

Ah I thought it was root only, will look into that thanks.
Yeah well if they remove 2G from my area I will have a mega problem as signal as poor very poor! I switched from Orange recently because of poor signal in my house, just got to hope that they increase the 3G coverage first!

Is your phone from Three? If yes, if you flash one of the unbranded images with flashtool (no risk, no data loss) you'll gain many more settings.

Yes it is... When you say no risk does that mean if something goes wrong it and I have to send it to three for repair they won't know? Sorry I've only had HTCs and Samsungs.

Make an ftf backup of your firmware(there is how to in dev section),and you can flash it back when needed.

AW: 2G only mode
"Free" devices interestingly have more options, see screenshot attached.
Make sure to report back your findings in case you unbrand your device.
Your screenshot displays what I was expecting to see on mine...but once I understood that three restrict certain settings in their firmware it made sense.
I will certainly upload a screenshot once I get around to following those instructions

[Q] tmobile (USA) 4 G 2013

hi everyone,
Does this international device support the new Tmobile (USA) 4G speeds (as of April 2013) ?
if yes, whats the average download and upload speeds in supported Tmobile 4G Cities ?
thanks
It does. Been for a while. And speeds are very good. Sorry I'm to lazy to do a speed test but it's very fast. At least I believe so here in Miami.
it does
I am using this wonderful device with T-mobile, and i get good speeds, like 8mbps download and 1 upload.
Isn't t mobile us 4g just hspa+ ?

So they tout 3g as 4g. In my opinion that's misleading. Although you can get decent speeds on HSPA+. I get 8mbps down and 5 up on 3 in UK. Works out quicker than my mates LTE iPhone in London. Quick is one thing. Selling it as tech it ain't is another!

What is a "G" network?

I have recently enabled my phone to choose between 2G or 3G and rarely I've seen a G
Btw I'm on CM10.1 in China using China Unicorn
