What is a "G" network? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently enabled my phone to choose between 2G or 3G and rarely I've seen a G
Btw I'm on CM10.1 in China using China Unicorn

[REQ]4G icon for H/H+

HI can anyone help for a mod to change the H/H+ icon for a 4G icon just like the at&t version? thanks!
As I'm currently using my Note on AT&T HSPA/HSPA+, I'd like this too. My Skyrocket has 4G icons for HSPA+.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
But it's not 4g, so why should it have that icon?
Ya'. It's not technically 4G, but AT&T slaps that icon on all of their HSPA+ & LTE phones; including the Note. I just want the same icons the AT&T note has.

Ah! So you want your phone to lie, like they have set theirs up to lie?
Only kidding!

Well, AT&T is pretty much lying about their HSPA+ network. The most I've seen on it is 10Mbps. But T-Mobile is a lot closer to the truth. They call their HSPA+ 42 network 4G and it really is equivalent to true North American 4G networks like WiMax and LTE. Anyway, I just want my Skyrocket and Note to show the same icon when connected to HSPA+. Skyrocket says 4G for HSPA+ and 4G-LTE for LTE.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
So, we could both still use those 4G icons. Any ideas?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
You can replace them in systemui.apk. just rename the icons you want to use with the ones it is using.

Yeah. We know how to swap out our icons for the new ones we want to use. The problem is that we don't have the icons we need. What we need are the 4G & 4G-LTE icons from the status bar on an AT&T Note (SGH-I717).
Thank you anyway though. You're the first person actually trying to be helpful with their post.

Can't you extract them from your skyrocket? I would be interested in them as well.

I've already tried that. The Skyrocket's screen is much lower res. than the Note's. The Skyrocket's 4G HSPA(+) icon looks terrible on the Note. I think what we really need is the 4G and 4G-LTE icons from an AT&T SGH-I717. That would work perfectly... well... the regular 4G icon would... the 4G-LTE icon really doesn't have a place on the GT-N7000.

Try posting a request in the AT&T Note forum?
Would be cool if you attached it here afterwards.

This has been known for awhile. They affect the behavior of the signal. GSM autoprl is best because it'll goto 2g networks when 3G isn't available and LTE lets you use AWS LTE if your carrier has any. And CDMA won't work for us and I feel LTE/GSM Auto will first look for LTE but then degrade to 3G then 2G.
Sure, I think so... maybe like 6 weeks ago or something
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007943
the N4 has an active LTE chip that can be accessed though a menu ( that you obviously found. ) - It does only work on Canadian LTE bands ( rogers afaik ) and on some lucky markets of AT&T's LTE
It's the 1800 range i believe.
Stock setting is WCDMA

2G only mode

Guys/Girls,
For some strange reason I don't have an option for GSM (2G mode) only, I'm on three, anyone else have this same issue?
The problem I have is in my house my signal isn't great, I flick between 3G to browse the internet (as have no WiFi atm until Sky install it), but most of the time my phone will switch to 2G (roaming) which I have almost full signal when this happens. Though when I need to switch from 2G or 3G our visa versa the only way I can do it is search for network's then choose 3G or 2G on three, is there an alternative method?
I've downloaded tasker so I can set up my phone to switch to 2G and stay in that mode when I get home, when I get WiFi, though I'm trying to get my head around it atm. Can tasker solve my problem with a widget etc?
Thanks in advance!

Three is a 3g only network
2g used to be available as a fallback when there was no 3 network but this ended a year or 2 ago

That makes perfect sense now, not sure why I didn't think of that. Though my phone still falls back to a 2G network it just means I don't get a choice if it does it or not.

You can try to change it by entering *#*#4636#*#* in dial pad under phone information.

Awesome! That worked a treat! Now do you know if I can set tasker to run a task like that?
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk 2
Sorry no idea about tasker.
Sent from my C6602 using xda premium
For tasker you need to be rooted. You need to resign the rom then you can install toggle 2g by themasterbarron which gives a plug in to work with tasker

You are lucky.. Where am the fall back was totally removed so there was no 2g service of any type as there is reasonable 3g coverage. But the signal never carried into my house
3 will remove the ability country wide at some point because the 2g service is provided by another carrier by roaming agreements which obviously costs 3

Ah I thought it was root only, will look into that thanks.
Yeah well if they remove 2G from my area I will have a mega problem as signal as poor very poor! I switched from Orange recently because of poor signal in my house, just got to hope that they increase the 3G coverage first!

Is your phone from Three? If yes, if you flash one of the unbranded images with flashtool (no risk, no data loss) you'll gain many more settings.

Yes it is... When you say no risk does that mean if something goes wrong it and I have to send it to three for repair they won't know? Sorry I've only had HTCs and Samsungs.

Make an ftf backup of your firmware(there is how to in dev section),and you can flash it back when needed.

"Free" devices interestingly have more options, see screenshot attached.
Make sure to report back your findings in case you unbrand your device.
Your screenshot displays what I was expecting to see on mine...but once I understood that three restrict certain settings in their firmware it made sense.
I will certainly upload a screenshot once I get around to following those instructions

Drops from H+ to 3G or loses data completely?
This is off topic but how is the GPS on this phone for navigation? I currently have at&t Galaxy Note1 and it's GPS is spot on compared to my Captivate (Galaxy S1) which was horrible at best

[Q] tmobile (USA) 4 G 2013

hi everyone,
Does this international device support the new Tmobile (USA) 4G speeds (as of April 2013) ?
if yes, whats the average download and upload speeds in supported Tmobile 4G Cities ?
thanks
It does. Been for a while. And speeds are very good. Sorry I'm to lazy to do a speed test but it's very fast. At least I believe so here in Miami.
it does
I am using this wonderful device with T-mobile, and i get good speeds, like 8mbps download and 1 upload.

So they tout 3g as 4g. In my opinion that's misleading. Although you can get decent speeds on HSPA+. I get 8mbps down and 5 up on 3 in UK. Works out quicker than my mates LTE iPhone in London. Quick is one thing. Selling it as tech it ain't is another!
