[Q] From XXLQB to XXLQE - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone!
I'm going to move from 4.1.2 (Serbia) + CoCore 5.6.2 + Root to the latest Release of 4.1.2 JB for Germany. What to I have to bear in mind? What's the right way to flash the new ROM?
Only flash the latest release with Odin? Wipe before or no need for that? Custom-Kernel is gone then, right (as well as Root)?

You can try to make that update via OTA and if your phone find that update is ok, but if you did not via OTA do than to flash through Odin.
After that, root, flash kernel ...

After that, will I be able to get updates via KIES again?

and... can anyone tell me what is new in XXLQE?
ON: the best way to get a good upgrade is:
-Nandroid backup in recovery
-optional: backup all your apps with titanium backup
-flash XXLQE with odin
-boot system then do all the wipes
-root
-flash some kernel
-deoex your rom
- enjoy

According to my experiences, after rooting OTA and Kies updates will no longer work.

[Q] How to upgrade GB to JB?

Hi Guys,
Can someone guide / help me on how to upgrade my N7000 unit to JB and still rooted.
I'm still using GingerBread ROM with AbyssNote Kernel and already Rooted. Also installed with CWM
I want to know the step in upgrading it to Custom JB ROMs (MKalter JB, RocketRom)
Any suggestion will greatly appreciated.
Kindly refer on the images regarding details of my beloved SG Note
Thanks
You can not go from gingerbread to jb.
You need to download an ics rom ,like rocket with root and cwm. Do full wipe. Flash ics rom.
If that's cool download eybees jb
Full wipe and flash that .if root has gone open up SU and update the binary. The app will do this .just press on it .
Do not try skipping the ics . You will brick your phone ! Hope I helped

who says you can't go from gb to jb
i was on rooted stock gb and i flashed leaked stock jb over it and everything is working fine..
why do you think that ics has to be flashed ?
infact i did ask here at xda before flashing and nobody told me to flash ics over gb first

Same here. I downgraded to GB yesterday to SIM unlock my phone and went back directly to JB the second it was done.
Safe kernel is the only thing that matters, Rom base has nothing to do with it.

You mean guys I can flash directly to any Custom JB ROMs without bricking my beloved Note?
Downloading the RocketRom V1 JB (by Eybee1970 -Thanks!)
Currently, I'm using the AbbysNote 4.2 Kernel I just need to follow this steps below and everything will be fine. Right?
copy ROM on your USB-storage
boot in Recovery
FullWipe (also when coming from other Sammy-JB-ROM!)
Format SYSTEM!!!
flash ROM (it will reboot automatically in most cases)
after initial setup, open Super SU-app and you have to update SU-bin (app will do that for you if necessary!)
*FullWipe - clear cache, clear Dalvik, format system, factory restore?
Thank You..

[Help] Nandroid backup 4.1.1

My phone running panadroid rom, after wipe data cache and install 4.1.1 rom leak my phone got bootloop. I mean stop at GT 7000 screen or samsung logo or enter the language choice screen then automatic reboot....
Can anybody upload the nandroid backup of 4.1.1 leak. I need it to restore my phone i think that's only way to my phone come up to 4.1.1
Did you tried to reflash the rom?
Or just flash a Safe Kernel like Hydracore first, then full wipes and flash stock ics rom via Odin.
Then reflash Safe Kernel and retry to flash 4.1.1 ROM.

[STOCK][Jelly Bean 9.1.A.1.141][T]Rooted & Deodexed[10/06/13]

This is just a simple ROM I built with dsixda's Android Kitchen. Saw some people requesting a clean, rooted, stock ROM so I started a poll to gauge interest and it was enough for me have a crack at it. It's not really development but I figured this was the best place to drop it.
It's based on the LT30P_9.1.A.1.141_PL.ftf posted by @Supersonic335. I only rooted and deodexed it.
All the usual blah blah about bricking your device applies. It works fine on my phone so it should work on yours.
Features
* STOCK
* ROOT (Chainfire SuperSU 1.25 & BusyBox 1.21.0)
* DEODEXED
Basic flashing instructions
1. Root with Bin4ry's method(*) Make sure to use v21 or later!
2. install CWM for locked bootloaders.(*)
3. Go to recovery and wipe
4. Flash ROM.
5. Flash kernel (**)
6. Flash CWM & Reboot fix (**)
7. Reboot.
8. Enjoy
(*) skip these steps if you already have CWM recovery or unlocked bootlader.
(**)Not for unlocked bootlooader

You lose CWM after the flash because it's not in the kernel image as it is in a custom kernel.
The reboot fix has to do with the ric file which causes reboots when trying to access /system as r/w iirc.
I'm going to be testing a build now which has CWM and the reboot fix integrated and also a different fix for the "missing" wlan driver.

OK, all the sequence again from the beginning.
1. I flash stock 303 rom
2. Rooting it, installing CWM via usb debugging mode.
3. Entering recovery, flashing rom (recovery after flashing rom is still exists, isn`t it?)
4. Then i flash what ? CWM or reboot fix ? I suppose fix, because CWM will be still availiuble!?
So, what for to flash CWM form CWM? If i will lose CWM i still can flash new CWM from installed new .195 rom via debugging mode, isn`t it ? Or i don`t get something at all ? ((
You need to flash both CWM and reboot fix. After reboot CWM will be gone. It is actually in a ramdisk while in recovery. The recovery.tar which holds it is in /system/bin and is flashed over on update. That's why you need to flash it again. You should be able to install it again from. 195 but it's just easier to do it while you're already in recovery. It doesn't matter which of the two you flash first.

All clear, thank you!
Will try to do it today.
Just flashed the rom, CWM and fix, everything passed just great, everything works..., what can i say, i`m happy! Thank you so much for your work.
But one thing, you didn`t make changes in kernel ? It`s strange, because the kernel in this .195 f/w is dated by jule, however this kernel was in old .303 f/w and in the new .195 f/w there must be new kernel dated by september, what do you say ? And i see changed file sysmon.cfg respondable for CPU frequency control and LCD brightness. In the old f/w i was changing values by myself as i want LCD brightness, and i see this file has an another values than in old .303 f/w. Does it you made changed or this was in stock ?

You should add to instruction, that after all need to flash via Flashtool stock kernel from .195 f/w from here

Otherwise there will be bootloop after switching on extended battery mode. I flashed, and everithing is OK

Now that 7.0.A.3.223 is out, ¿any chance of getting an updated version of your rom?.
I like deodexed stock ones with as little modifications as possible, so I can customize them to my likes.
And so far yours has been great (except I switched SuperUser for SuperSU).

I've been using Siyah kernel with rom 3.195 and I'm very satisfied with it.
(There's a report that version 0.2 doesn't work with latest rom (3.223), but I know a user in another forum who says it is working fine for him, so who knows. Either way I'm waiting to see if Gokhanmoral releases kernel 0.3 before I update to rom 3.223).
¿Deodexed?
I've tried to customize the status bar icons with Rom Toolbox, but it complains that this rom is not deodexed (and in fact changing the icons does not work).
But this rom is supposed to be deodexed so, ¿does anybody know why this happens?.

[Q] Backup option not showing in recovery mode (2.3.6 Gingerbread)

Hi,
I am currently on rooted 2.3.6 Gingerbread (I9070) and will upgrade to the JellyMOD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170925).
I've been advised to do a Nandroid Backup of my system via the recovery menu (Volume up+Home+Power button) before I upgrade.
I did this but the option for Backup doesn't appear.
After a quick research I installed Rom Manager via google play. Tried to install ClockworkMod Recovery via Rom Manager but it says my I9070 is not supported.
I'm a noob here and hope someone can help in getting the Backup section to show up in recovery mode.
Thanks.

1. You instaled Jelly Bean ROM on Gingerbread. If you want it you need to flash JB with Odin, you have guide here - search for it.
2. We only can use custom recovery that is instaled with kernel, because those two share same partition. So no other way to install it, like on some other phones.
3. You probably got bootloop after installing JellyMOD on GB, so I suggest you to flash GB again. Or JB if you want it.
4. After geting back to GB, you can go get that recovery back and restore your prevoius ROM.

Since my phone is already rooted is it ok just to install the kernel?
After a search I found this [GT-I9070][Kernel][GINGERBREAD] Stock Kernel + TWRP Recovery for Galaxy S Advance (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873119&highlight=kernel+gingerbread).
Would it be ok to just install this via Odin?
Not with odin but yes, that is what you need. Get universal kernel flasher and use that tool to flash kernels. Odin way will increase binary counter.

[Q] Firmware [KITKAT] Plain AOSP for Xperia T

Hey guys.
I currently have open bootloader and I'm with the firmware Ultimate PureXT v4.0 (4.3 JB) and therefore my disposal Recovery (Philz Touch 6 / CW v6.0.4.7).
The question is, if I just go directly to flash the firmware, with subsequent wipes, or previously have to flash a kernel via flashtools.
In case i need to flash a kernel through flashtools, what use, which is within the firmware or that recommend me?
I feel my bad English
Please can anyone answer? I do not dare to flash directly from recovery, without being certain not brik the terminal, not to have a different kernel that I have.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729509
You mean to install the above linked ROM? Since you already have recovery installed, you can indeed use that for flashing the ROM, no need to flash an other kernel first.
It's always a good idea to make a backup of your current ROM first, so:
- backup
- full wipe (everything except SD)
- flash ROM from SD
- reboot

- full wipe (everything except SD)
- flash ROM from SD
- reboot

Many, thank you very much! It is exactly that.
That was my question, the difference in the systems and whether to flash a new kernel, to install the new firmware recovery
As I'm on 4.3 JB not know if I can flash this firmware directly from the recovery going from 4.3 to 4.4 while maintaining kernel 4.3
When you full wipe from recovery, everything is gone from your phone (including kernel), so just immediately flash the zip after wiping to install the new ROM (new kernel is then installed, you won't end up with 4.4 firmware with 4.3 kernel )

Thank you very much. :good:
I always thought you had to change kernel if the system is updated, or wanted a firmware cooked
