[Q] Popping noise - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

On my second HTC One now.
I've noticed a popping sound that comes about after a period of quietness. It's the same whether beats is turned on or off. Can hear it after turning the system volume up/down, by opening up the music app, etc
Is this a software issue or am I going to have to take this one back as well?

Has HTC fixed the speaker pop issue?

I bought the HTC One when it originally came out but ended up returning it because the phone's "Boom Sound" speakers would pop after playing any audio (you could hear the speaker turning off after 2 seconds of audio playback in quiet environments), and audio would crackle/pop, such as playing a YouTube video constantly.
Has HTC fixed this issue through updated hardware manufacturing processes or software updates?

Yes they have. Some people never experienced it in the first place but the 1.29 update took care of it.
I can confirm, I have CID HTC_001 and got it with 1.28 and it was cracling while playing youtube videos, after update to 1.29 I completely forgot about that... Originally I though it was because sometimes when you get new speakers, they sound differently than after few weeks of playing, so I though that it fixed it, but then after browsing XDA here, I noticed some ppl on 1.28 are still complaining about it... so it aparently was SW fault and its fixed
After playing audio from the speaker, can you still hear the speaker turning off (pop type of sound), or have they fixed this issue? It's evident in quiet environments, and it occurs about 2 seconds after playing any audio.
It's not the speaker, it's the DAC stopping and making that noise. The guy making PureXaudio mod explained it in his FAQ.

[Q] Turn automatic normalize off

I got an HTC One a month ago or so and I love it but an issue is really pissing me off, the music auto normalizes when the music is loud(Lowers the volume by about 30%). This is app independent and it's not done by the beats customization(I have that off). There has to be a way to stop this from happening. If there were an option to keep the volume normalized at all times I would do that, what bothers me is that in the best parts of the songs I like the volume goes down and I hate that inconsistency.

I've never heard this issue on my phone, but I only use spotify. Is this via the HTC Music app? If so maybe rename the htcmusicenhacer.apk in system/app? Not sure If thats what is doing it or thats just a dsp for the htc music apk.
It's on the play music app and power amp for me, but I'm pretty sure it's on all apps. Whenever it's on maximum volume. It happens on certain genres of music, drops and breakdowns are the ones who trigger it the most. I lowered the volume of the pre-amp on power amp and that stopped it, but there is no system wide sound limiter so the issue persists in play music.
next time, please post questions in the questions section
Moved thread.... If you put "[Q]" in the title chances are it does NOT belong in the general section....

Sorry about that, always had used general for all my questions before.
Anyways, in case others had the same problem, I took my phone to sprint and it turned out to be badly calibrated so it was producing much higher sound causing the volume to drop and caused distortion on calls as well. Apparently it's a possible bug with the latest update as I had not modified or installed any sound modifying app. After it was calibrated all the problems stopped. They also lowered the intensity of the haptic feedback, which was nice.
Thanks anyways.

HTC One speaker popping sound

I haven't used my speakers in about a week so I decided to try them today. I got a weird popping sound as soon as I opened up YouTube. Once I started playing a video, a steady pop persisted even though the audio was coming out. I tried playing through multiple music apps, turning beats audio off, and restarted the phone with no luck. This is only happening for my top speaker only when I enter an app that plays sound. The sound also persists for a few seconds after I stop sound. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks.

In the main thread about such noises somebody has fixed this persistent popping through repair of HTC. It's hardware.
The popping sound (one single pop) a few seconds after a sound is played seems to affect a lot of people! Don't know if that's hard- or software. My device got that, too.

I've seen threads on that but it doesn't seem to be my issue. The sound doesn't just occur when I stop a sound, it occurs as soon as I start playing sound. Its constantly there. If I open up a song, it will continue to pop through the duration of the song until I stop the song completely. This makes it hard to make phone calls too. Headphones work fine though so its definitely related to the speaker. I haven't read about this specific issue on xda before so I decided to post it.

Yes. Your problem is a hardware defect (a user wrote about that), my phone doesn't have this problem. The seconds one (the single pop) often occurs.

Do you use any type of equalizers/DSPs? the main cause for popping sounds is that the speaker is making too much vibrations. When you use a DSP, the increases the vibrations and when audio stops, the DAC will mute it, causing all vibrations to stop at once. The more vibrations, the louder the popping sound will be when the DAC mutes it.
If you don't use any DSPs, just disable the touch sound effect by going into Settings > Sound > (untick) Touch Sounds
If you get popping sounds on stock audio with or without Beats Audio enabled (Or when you are listening to music, playing games etc), it's best you get it checked out by someone because the pop sound is not noticeable with Stock or Beats Audio.
When I refresh email or similar, the refresh sound is followed by a pop after the refresh has finished. It's like the end of a sound file as you can hear white noise in between the refresh and the pop

Then something's really wrong here. You are on stock rom right? If so, I suggest you contact wherever you got the device from and see if they can do anything about it.
This pop sound is normal when using DSPs on speakers but it's not normal when you have it with all audio effects turned off...

same here !
Come to think of it, my old one x+ popped just looking at the home screen. Also you could hear the camera chugging away like it was taking pictures randomly. The ONE does this sometimes. Sneaky apps I suspect, using recording and picture taking to spy ??

I hate it.

[Q] Audio changes from headphone to speaker with volume control

OK so this is weird because it doesn't happen all the time.
If I have my headphones in and I adjust the volume using the side volume rocker, the 'beats' logo disappears and audio starts playing from the speakers. I first noticed it while using the mixcloud app and figured it was local to that specific app, but now it is happening when streaming from the DS Audio app as well. I'm thinking there is a software conflict somewhere but I'm not certain.
I'm currently running MaximusHD 32.1.0 on my HTC One but have noticed this issue using the prior 3 versions.
Anyone else having this type of issue and/or know how to fix it?
