[Q] Does your device heat up (excessively) during charging? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

omg how did i post this in the wrong forum

Nope man I was just thinking how I see people saying their ones were heating up. Mine never gets over warm even watching utube for two hrs and pluged in the charger at the same time. Sorry I don't really have any suggestions.

Phone heating up while charging

My phone seems to get very hot when i place it for charging. It so hot that if i get a call i can't even place it by my ear. And it takes a lot of time to cool back down once i remove the charger.
Is it something that i'm facing or are there others also whoa are facing the same issue?
when the battery is bad, you get this kind of problem.
the charging current is too high for this battery, because the battery is not quite right.

I'll have to take the phn to service center then.

Seems the best option. Sometimes a bad battery slips through.
do you have warranty? Normally you get two years from htc.

Does you're nexus turn off while charging?

I have had this twice now, the seccond time i put my nexus on charge at about 28℅ came back an hour later and it was turned off but still charging ( the white battery charging icon). Anyone else had this? I am using the charger that came with my nexus. Also this does not happen all the time.

Are you using the wall to charge or USB on your computer?
Maybe you have a runaway app in the background constantly syncing (ahem twitter)?

I always turn it off prior to charging since it will charge faster.
I've had this happen a lot and what gets me is it happens on different kernels and roms.... It seems almost like a safety feature against overheating while charging

There is already a thread about this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783173).
It seems to be happening randomly, and for me only on overnight charges.
I'm not sure if it's by design or a bug, but it happens.
The weird thing is, if I leave it plugged in during the day, it will stay on. At night, it usually turns off after reaching 100%.

[Q] using phone while charging battery

hey folks noob here sorry to say, first off glad i stumbled across this very informative site. will be seeing/ learning more here thats for sure.
i dont know if this a common problem or rooted to my own phone but, when on charge if you use the phone whilst charging the phone, it will not charge (id imagine charging the same level as whats being sucked from the battery) but i was always of the understanding when phones are on charge they don't really use the battery, surley this is a bug? The phone itself is amazing coming from an iphone 4. cant really say a bad word against it otherwise, loving xperia and my first android otherwise.
on a side note is 0.1m/ps the going rate for 3g or H as stated on this phone? im pretty sure i got 1meg with my iphone.
cheers for any input lads.
Anyone of you 39 thats viewed not charged your phone yet?
Yes that's normal to loose battery percentage using the phone while charging especially if you charge it by usb port.
How much your charger output in mA?
Mine is 1500mA

hey mate thanks for the reply, no thats with wall socket charging not via the usb port on comp etc. ill see if i can fine out the charger output. :good:
the Sony charger just can't provide enough power to hold up the thirsty quad core CPU when it fully loaded like playing games. My experience yesterday when it was low on battery ~5% and plugged in with the bundled charger, the battery level kept dropping while I was playing candy crush and eventually it shut off itself. I tried another charger from Note 2 and it holds up better and the output current is 2A for that charger.
Use a tablet charger ora note charger as said

If you use bigger charger and play games than the phone will heat up and will explode.

Paranoia?
Not too sure what games might cause that, but I charge using the Nexus 7 2A charger AND do compute intensive tasks (games, benchmarks, etc) at the same time - got a wee bit warm but if it blows up i'll definitely be the first to know.

****, I charged my HTC ONE for 16 hours.

Oh god, oh god.
I just bought it yesterday and I'm really scaring of holding it.
It sat on a pillow, in a box [so it would'nt collect dust] the whole night, connected to the charger ofcourse [as I had around 87 Percent at the end of the day I decided to charge it]
This morning I woke up and had to go straight to work, ofcourse I won't bring my lovely new HTC ONE to work, so I left it there and forgot it was charging.
****. ?
Did I harm the battery? it sat there charging for 16 hours. since 0:00 - 16:30.
Please tell me it's alright and doesn't harm anything at all?
Lol. You're overreacting. Absolutely nothing will happen unless you do this every day for months in a row. And not even then maybe.
So chill.

I would be more worried that you keep your phone in the box, on a pillow, than I would about the extended charging.

Thanks, I started using it more seriously today, battery's down 26% since I unplugged it.
It went through almost constant use (opening instagram, opening settings, just watching the homescreen)
It's been around an hour of this use with the phone on saving mode and airplane mode with WiFi.. is it okay?

When charging my phone the plug burnt and melted

Last night I forgot to charge my phone, so I plugged it in on the way to work and notice the charge light went out on the phone and when I checked the plug to see if it came out out was hot and melting. When I got to the job I plugged it in with a wall charger thinking the car charger went bad and it was doing the same thing. I figured I'll turn the phone off to save my battery to transfer stuff to the computer when I get home to take it to sprint, I decided to try it again while it was off and now it's not doing it even now I turned the phone back on.
In running the latest 42one rom no custom kernel, I guess whatever was going on isn't happening because it rebooted now.
Anyone ever experience this issue, now I'm afraid to leave it plugged in when I go to bed if it happens again, there isn't no point in taking it to sprint because I'm not able to show them what was happening.

I actually did have this happen to me. It was serve melting but it was extremely hot to where it was uncomfortable to touch. I reported it to HTC got a new charger and all has been well since. I was running Bad Boyz and have no idea what the heck happened. I had it charging over night. I'll find the wall piece and upload a pic in the am to show. Hopefully the damage will show well.

I don't get it?
The OP probably was using the OEM charger, so I think this is a rarity, but a word of caution to everyone: Not all USB chargers are made the same. You should only use high quality OEM charges for your phones, there's no reason to have a fire hazard to save a couple bucks on a charger.
This happened to me a couple of days. I got to work and plugged it in as usual. After a few minutes i noticed the red light went out. I noticed the bottom of the phone was really warm so i unplugged it and the tip of the charger burnt the crap out of my fingers.
I tried other charges and they didn't work and my Mophie won't charge my phone anymore so just like the OP, I ran a Nandroid back-up along with a Titanium back-up preparing to have to swap it out and then having to worry about getting it s-off'd.
As of today, it's charging with another charger but i did scrape the charging port with a needle because it looked like it might have had some char on it.
Fingers crossed!

Most likely a bad rectifier that's allowing some noise on the (what should be) clean DC.
Dirty DC will cause all sorts of ugly on a digital device.

I had a similar problem with my first One. I was charging it on a crappy work computer, and one of the points got zapped. I could still charge my phone from a plug-in, but it wouldn't connect to any computer. $50 later (thanks Sprint), I had a brand new phone. That I may or may not have promptly bricked.
