Can I replace my stock recovery with cwm without unlocking the boot loader? I have root with jelly bean.
Try this -> Here
Its not CWM, but its better than nothing.
I don't think so. Not CWM. Try some other recovery.

After having to reset my phone because of a failed root attempt, I noticed in the stock recovery there was the option to install updates.
I tried putting a KDZ in the root of my sdcard but that didn't work.
What filetype does it need to be and what filepath?
Or is it not possible?

"install update" option in recovery is to install signed zip files, not kdz files. for example CM roms are in a zip file which u should install via recovery. but its not this easy. read the instructions if u wanted to install one.
It also has an option to apply update from cache. Isn't that where official updates are downloaded to?
Is there anywhere to get the official JB update in the format that can be flashed using stock recovery?

Would restoring a Nandroid of a freshly installed official JB ROM work?
From stock 4.0.3, locked bootloader, although I could try to unlock it again.

So I received my Razr I today and it already has JB on it
So I was wondering, any chance that I could downgrade it to ICS?
From what I've read on xda and some German forums it did work for some people...
I'm referring to this threat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184877
So in the end, is it possible or not?
Thanks in advance!
Yes, you should definitely be able to do this. You need to install a custom recovery on to your device to start with. I think the ROM Manager app on the Play Store supports your device. If you download it you can flash CWM Recovery onto your device. Then you need the zip file for the ICS stock firmware which can be found easily by Googling it (I've already seen it so it exists). Once you've moved the zip file on to your SD card, boot into recovery and install the zip file and you should be back to ICS stock.

Well I have the files and everything (RSDlite) but from what I've read there might be a problem flashing the fastboot files...
He talked about flashing over CWM and not with RSD-Lite...

But for CWM I need root, for root I need unlocked BL and I don't have it and also don't want to unlock my BL.
So, locked BL JB -->locked BL ICS
Then you must stay with unrooted JB. Downgrade to ICS with RSD is not possible afaik.

Morning all, i am having a problem flashing any ROM via CWM. I have obtained root and my bootloader is unlocked (both the hidden menu and whilst in s/w download mode confirm this) also i have cwm recovery running with unsecure boot img, the problem is when i flash anything (from my external sd) all i get is bootloops! Is it possible i have missed something?
Thanks for your time guys!

1. make a backup (on external SD)
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. wipe cache
4. advanced >> wipe dalvik cache
5. flash ROM

What about your CWM version? The latest is 6.0.3.1. Incorrect version results in disasters

@tomkasz forgot to say i do a complete data wipe before flashing! Didn't clear my dalvik before (thanks for pointing that out mate!) @hernest my current version is 6.0.2.8, so im guessing i need to update my recovery? If so can i just use the clockworkMod app from google play and do it that way?
Am i right in thinking that because im on v20a at the moment that i need to flash a JB ROM? Or can i flash an ICS without having to downgrade via KDZ first?
Thanks for your help guys!

In order to flash ICS you have to use LG Flash Tool. There is a thread on xda showing how to do it step by step.

Your Recovery version is the culprit, then. Just install ROM Manager via Play Store and update your recovery to the latest version. Your life will be much easier in terms of flashing ROM.
To roll back to stock ICS from JB is quite a task and can't be done by simply flashing ICS based ROM. There's a thread on general section dedicated to this topic, you might want to do some research before doing so. Like the previous post said, there are no fully compatible ICS based custom ROM. Anyway, I think this device is much better in JB. Why would you revert back?

Hi guys,
I flashed eXistenZ v4 black rom to my XZ 6602 using CWM from lockeddualrecovery 2.6.0 but i lost Recovery after installation, tried to install the same recovery again but it doesn't recognize the rom although it's based on stock 4.2.2.

what did you do to gain recovery again?
Try using the apk from here to install TWRP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190936
Then reboot to that recovery and flash the XZ Dual Recovery zip available in [NUT]'s thread.
Finally, you should follow instructions carefully next time you install a rom. It clearly says to flash the dual recovery zip after flashing the rom and before rebooting

I tried ZXRecovery and it installed but it's not booting into recovery to flash the NUT one, just rebooting the phone.
i guess i am gonna have to go back to stock, re-root, re-flash the rom and flash the recovery before rebooting
that's what i get for not paying attention to details.
thnx anyway buddy i appreciate it.:good:
Hey, so I'm on 4.3 10.4.B.0.569 and there is the 4.4 Kitkat update available (10.5.A.0.2300). It's a C6603 on Three UK (Cust num. 1270-6263). It is rooted via a Bootloader Unlock and has a CWM Based Custom Recovery installed. I cannot update via OTA since the stock recovery is gone, how do I flash back the stock recovery so I can do the OTA? I know it may be as simple as 'Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' but I don't have any IMG for it and can't find any. Any help? I don't want to factory reset and lose data, it'd be an effort to restore.
The Z doesn't have a stock recovery or even a recovery partition.
To update via OTA, you need to relock your bootloader. Make sure you flash a stock kernel before doing so.

Ah ok, well what's the best way to go from 4.3 Unlocked BL Rooted to 4.4 stock without losing data?
Probably just flash an FTF with Flashtool (choose one from the general section) without wiping data, then flash the latest advanced stock kernel and root again.
