Your Opinion on the X Phone - Nexus 4 General

What do you guys think about it? I heard rumors about it being showed at Google IO and looks promising. They had leaked pictures of it and it looks very similar to our Nexus and the HTC One. Its showed running Android 4.2 stock. I'll try to post the link to the website later.

This has nothing to do with nexus 4.

OP actually if want to compare the Nexus, there is a thread in place for this, to compare devices to the Nexus....and I will ask you to search before opening a new thread. Thanks.

Nexus 4 getting 4.2.2

Couple articles are reporting that the N4 is getting an update and now being shipped with 4.2.2. Still no change log reported. Anyone have the details on when and what we will get in 4.2.2 on the nexus 7?

Since the Nexus 7 is a Nexus device, if there is indeed a 4.2.2, we will be getting it very soon.

I just bought and returned the Nyko Playpad because it couldn't connect to the Nexus 7. I searched online and it was a known issue since last year. I read in a Nyko tweet that it was due to the JellyBean update and Google is well aware of it, so yeah there could be something to this, since this Nvidia Tegra contoller has been needing a fix since the last update of it's Nyko Playground app last October.
I know while surfing Google currents Engadget and I think android police had the articles.

Supposedly JDP66 is the N10 4.2.2 build that's coming, popping on benchmark sites, prob will be what N7 gets since 4.2.1 on all my devices is JOP40D

Does this mean they'll be fixing the Bluetooth stuttering?
If there's one single thing they needed to address, it was the broke-ass bluetooth.

That build number is fake. Unless it is a typo...because build numbers have always been 3 letters, 2 numbers, 1 letter: IMM76L, JRO03C, JOP40D, etc.
EDIT: or possibly a placeholder.

Yes, you can expect a letter after the 66.. whether it is fake remains to be seen. Just passing on what information I have seen about it so far over in the N10 forum.

Looks like Android 4.2.2 build JDP66 is out there & likely will be hitting Nexus 10 devices shortly as it is already rolling out to a few Nexus 4 users.

I'm praying its legit. Google is slacking with its jellybean update. 4.2.1 is dodgy. Bluetooth fixes and Lil performce tweaks would seal it. (Y)

Let's hope so. Bluetooth issues on a tablet are a problem, but on a phone they'd be a deal killer.
To be honest, they need to fix more than just the bluetooth issue...

My 15 mos. old rooted HTC DI2 running ICS have no issues with Bluetooth, including Skype (soon to replace MSN Messenger, arrrrhhhh) and Google Voice or GrooVe IP when calling, crystal clear. N7 running 4.1.2 on rooted stock rom & kernel is fine, Bluetooth is fine but "playing" now with 4.2.1 - BT is a P I T A - no matter how I try to tweak it, whether I'm using the Jabra or 1 of the 2 Moto headset.
Benchmark-wise, not that I am chasing for a high Quadrant score as the CPU/device is plentiful fast for my purposes without OC/UV - 4.1.2 has clearly the upper hand, whether it's stock rom & kernel or custom rom/factory kernl or stock rom/custom kernel.
Fortunately, Stickmount is working on 4.1.2 with my choice of roms at the moment, MoDaCo's Jr13 with franco - and, it's a "messy" one with the sdcard directory layout for the recovery whereas with 4.1.2 - everything on it is easily accessible for backup & restoring with CWM.
Just my 2 cents, as a disclaimer - YMMV - of course.
Some rumours here about the Nexus 4 shipping with 4.2.2 http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/google-nexus-4-spotted-running-android-4-2-2-jelly-bean-50010145/ So hopefully its not that far off for the N7.

The only thing it bugs mea lot is that is doesn't have 4.2 :/ I'm used to the lockscreen widgets now, I always end up rooting and putting cm because I like the way stock looks, so I think I'll be sticking with the nexus 4 maybe wait and see for gs IV

Selling HTC One to get a Nexus 5

Quick question, would you sell your HTC One to get a Nexus 5?
I'm thinking of doing it, but not sure yet.
Don't get me wrong I love the One, but getting a new device is always exciting.

I wouldn't. IMO, the roll-outs for software updates are coming fairly rapidly for HTC with the One. Nexus would get it's updates directly from Google, which has the upside of getting it first, but other than that, and having a "clean" Android phone, there really isn't any point to it for me. To each his own, though...

go get it!
by the way, last thing you wana do is ask htc one users or nexus 5 , if you need a unbiased view u have to go outside this group and watch online videos and see if its worth it. This always works on people who cant make decisions.
I'm keeping my One and getting a N5. If It did come down to it though I probably would sell it. I do prefer stock android and I like quick updates. HTC is doing a good job, but I like having them immediately. Only reason I'm keeping my One to be honest is the 64gb of storage I need for music listening purposes.

I went a head and ordered one from Google. It will take 3 to 4 weeks to ship.
I can cancel anytime before my order ships, just waiting on some reviews to see how the Nexus does.
Thanks for all your feedback!

I'm thinking about it. I'm just afraid the speakers won't be as great on the Nexus. Anyone know how the Nexus 5 speakers compare to our stereo boomsound?
Nexus 5 speaker flat out sucks compared to One..
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Nope! I wouldn't
- way better speaker(s) on the One
- Cotulla is here bringing us Windows goodness ?
- I've heard android 4.4 and snapdragon 800 are the only pro's for the N5, of which we'll get Android 4.4 soon enough and snapdragon 600 is powerful enough
- I love the aluminum unibody too much to let it go
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I wouldn't just cause I like the One more than Nexus 5. Other than 4.4 which we probably will get soon enough there isn't much to make me really want to get the 5. Plus I like having the option of using Sense and not having just different AOSP roms.

Software updates coming quickly from HTC... are you joking?
4.3 and Sense 5.5 has not even been sent out OTA yet here in the UK and now we are on 4.4... so we will get that about this time next year then from HTC officially!!!!

I would say no.
I was very keen on getting a Nexus 5.. was sat waiting for the official release online on Thursday, kept refreshing websites etc, but over the weekend I have totally changed my mind as like others have said, the only real big advantage is 4.4, Snapdragon 800 and quick to receive updates.
HTC One is only a little behind on speed, has higher dpi and far far better speakers. Now I like the latest version of Android asap and hate waiting, so here is what I did today and would suggest to others.. I converted my HTC One to a Google Play Edition. I now have a nice clean install, no bloatware, OTA updates, so I should receive my 4.4 update when it rolls out in i believe about 2 weeks, maybe less.
I didn't use blinkfeed or Zoes or any of that stuff so losing Sense 5.5 is no loss for me.
I have a nice warm feeling inside now that my HTC One is soon to be just as good as the Nexus 5 when I get 4.4, until then, I can handle it being a little under par...

what a sad day.. now we wait for the silver program
Nothing wrong with silver other than maybe higher priced phones...... Hopefully it's not GPe phones that just turn into silver....
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
i still believe there will be a n6..probably the last one
As sad as i am about this news, in a way i am also happy. I think the Silver line will get better support (fixing important issues quicker) and overall the phones will have less compromises (build quality etc..), and better availability (especially for people outside the US and select EU countries).
The movie blade runner owns the name Nexus 6 so the next Nexus phone will be called something else

Nexus 5 (2014) ala Nexus 7 (2013) ?
Silver lining for $200 more probably... There's no way carriers/manufacturers would be OK with google selling a $300 phone next to their $600 phones.

This is plausible, there might not be a Nexus 6 but instead a Nexus device with a different name (probably with the word Nexus in it).
If this were the case then @evleaks would not have emphasized the term silver lining

This just means that Google is terminating the Nexus program early since the Android Silver program is not being accelerated to replace it. I wonder what their motivation for doing so is. Also, what does this mean for the Nexus 8?
Last year evleaks said that D820 is not the new nexus, but a CDMA G2 variant. He was wrong, lol.

So what is all this big fuss about? Don't you think google has screwed us over and over again with these crapping phones. I've owed gnex, nexus 4 and nexus 5 and looking forward that they would improve their phones but bottom line is you get what you pay for!!!
I will never buy another google phone ever and as a matter of fact, I will buy anything that headlines or competes directly with the nexus such as the OnePlus One the nexus killer!!!

Imo..the Nexus line is more alive than ever....
A lot of new accessories...
A lot of Google+ posts. From nexus celebrating the evolution of Nexus and from Google employees showing N5 photos all around the world.
A lot of new Countries with the Play Store's "Devices" branch.
However...there will always be a replacement......A reference device (or devices) for Android....called Nexus or not.

Wait, the N5 came with a stock ROM? Can't say I noticed
Welcome to the club mate, you're in good company here
That's a nice upgrade. I went though 4 phones in the same time, lol. I bet that big of a jump is a lot more noticeable than the incremental performance boosts I'm used to barely noticing.
With such a big upgrade, why would you not try out the stock ROM first!?!
