Is this bricked? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there, first of all thanks for taking the time to even click the post.
My partner's younger brother decided to root his Galaxy S3 Mini without looking up the correct instructions for this particular phone. Unforunately he accidentally (to an extent) used the wrong rom, using a Galaxy S3 root instead of the correct one for the Mini. He realised his mistake when the process wasn't working correctly on ODIN and quickly removed the wire (his second mistake).
So he brings the phone to me to fix (I was unaware he was attempting to root the phone). Now I looked up some guides on this forum onhow to 'Unroot' an S3 Mini and followed them step by step, downloaded this file 'I8190XXAMB2_I8190OXXAMB1_BTU.zip' as we're based in England and selected the md5 file for the PDA box, then started the process.
It installs fine, until it say 'Reset' in the box showing the status of the root, in which the phone reboots and simply sits on the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini splash screen - the phone isn't detected by the PC after this point and ODIN idle's for a while before saying 'PASS' but not showing the phone connected.
The phone then stays at the Galaxy S3 Mini splash screen indefinitely, the only thing I can do is access download mode and retry, which I have.
Could anyone shed some light on why this is happening and what I'm doing wrong? I've scanned the forum a number of times but I'm still unable to troubleshoot this, i wouldn't post unless I was really stumped -sorry guys.
Cheers in advance.

If u can access the recovery do it, do a full factory rest, then flash stock through odin (takes few mins) then factory reset in recovery again and should work, if not u got urself a hard brick....

I can't access Recovery Mode at all, I can only access the download mode. Is that a definite sign of a hard brick? I was told somewhere that as long as download mode is accessible you can sort it,but I'm unsure how true this is. Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks for the reply.

Here see if this works, unzip and flash tar in PDA in Odin, hopes it helps you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1597061&d=1356658154

This seems to have worked - I have no clue what the file was, I assume from the name it was Parameters required for the phone to boot? Either way, thank you so very much!

[A]Unbrick galaxy note (wrong rom)

Let me give you a tip if you bricked your phone.
I accidentally flashed Checkrom for galaxy s2 into my note.
The phone was bricked, i couldn't get to the recovery mode. Using the volume+power+home key combo only displayed a f*** up screen and then rebooted.
I noticed that if I did this with the phone plugged into the computer, my PCwould actually recognize something being plugged.
What I did:
I ran the already-rooted.bat that came with the rooting toolkit (zergrush)
And thank to god my phone booted (as a Samsung galaxy s2!), well it did not boot at first, it was stuck loading but i could go into recovery mode. After that my phone actually booted as an s2 (all messed up), but I could eventually wipe it clean.
So, if for any reason your phone gets bricked you might want to try this (cause removing battery doesn't do s**t)
I'm glad you solved it. But have to ask how the Fu** did you flash a. Sgs2 rom. Do you not read?

I did the same
I was selling my SGS2 the same day as I received my note. Was bussy rooting and unrooting and moving files from SGS2 to Note. On that time Chekrom for note and SGS2 was both v.4 "do i need to say more" some kernels swits internal and external SD in CWM. and i was using my sd to move files, I lost my IMEI in the proces, I had a struggle getting it back
In my defense, the checkrom rom was labeled XWLA4_CheckromRevo_HD_V6.zip for the s2 and XXLA4_CheckromRevo_NoteHD_V5.zip for the note. I was doing a bunch of stuff and its not like the file names are totally different.
I made a mistake, and I won't be the last to make it. Someone might benefit from my experience.
I have exactly same problem !please tell the toolkit method

"Logo.gt.jpg" draw failed from Galaxy Note?

Guys i accidentally install i9100 firmware to my Galaxy Note and the screen is total blank with sounds of booting samsung intro. Then i install N7000 firmware. Then screen is total blank again with intro sound.
Then i install 2.tar from triangle remove post in xda n7000 also. Then screen turn to normal. I can use my N7000 again its back to normal.
This is it when i reboot or restart the upper left small green words appear about 3 seconds then back to normal the word is ( "logo.gt.jpg" draw failed )
Question is how can i remove it? Any idea guys? Did someone of you guys experience this?

Tx to Dr. Ketan... I copied this from his thread.
If you have logo_q1.jpg draw failed" error (Thnx Schaggo)
Go back to the firmware you had, root it, flash newest or in fact any CF-Root kernel. Then start over.
Redownload the ROM. Extract it.
Create folder /sdcard/external_sd/firmware (thats folder "firmware" (lowercase) on your external SD card)
Put following 3 ("three") files in it:
CODE_blah.tar.md5
GT-N7000-MULTI-CSC.blah.tar.md5
MODEM_blah.tar.md5
Open CWM App, select "Flash stock firmware"
Click continue a couple times. Important steps:
In case asked which kernel you want to take, chose CODE_blah
When asked what you want as CACHE select GT-N7000-MULTI-CSC-blah
When asked about rooting say Keep CF-Root Kernel
Done
If it help you Dont forgrt to press THANKS button.
Finally the serious answer! Thanks dude.

[Q] Help: Flashed the bootloader of my Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 with the wrong binary

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000. Using Odin3 v3.04 I (accidently) flashed the Bootloader with the wrong binary. With the Auto-Reboot option selected on the Odin3, the device turned off and is not turning on again.
Before flashing, my Tab had the official Samsung GB 2.3.3 (P1000JPJPC if I am not mistaken).
Some threads suggest that I charge the Tab using the wall charger for 4 hours, and see if the battery icon appears on the screen or not, then connect the tab to the PC. I did that. I connected the Tab to the wall charger overnight. Nothing appeared on the screen. Then the next morning I connected the Tab to the PC, nothing happened. The PC does not recognize that there is anything connected on its USB port.
The Tab is not turning on. I've tried to press (and long press) almost every combination of the Tab's keys I could think of, but the Tab just won't turn on.
I guess I hardbricked my device (as explained in this thread)
I don't think I'll be able to apply the Unbrickable process explained here.
Having said that, my question is: Is there anything else I can do at home to revive my Tab, or do I need to send it to Samsung repair center?
-Adel
I think you brick it.
Flashing bad boot loader kills the tab.

If you've completely killed your tab, what can be done to fix it. I have a similar problem with my tab in that it gets to the screen that says samsung galaxy tab and then stops there. I have been searching the net and have rooted the tab and then tried to flash firmware but i am struggling to get the tab to read the ext sd card with the firmware on it.I don't really know my way around this type f thing but have to figure it out because I can't afford to take it in to be repaired right now. Advise will be appreciated.

Your problem is different from OP.
Can you boot to download mode? Can you boot to recovery, if so which recovery (stock or cwm).
Ave you tried Overcome method , as in my signature?

Hi Priyana,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, as far I could tell from reading up on it, I would guess mine is not bricked.
I can boot to download mode and to recovery - cwm (v3.0.0.5). I have tried downloading Overcome and anything else I thought might work but this is where I get stuck. I've wiped the cache and other things like that described on the net and on videos (actually this is what got me into this in the first place). When I copy a .zip file onto the external sd card and put it in the tab, I can't install the zip from the sd card because it can't find the directory I made. I'll have a look in your signature and see what I can find there but any guidance would be much appreciated.
Komplotter,
Yeah, I am not sure about cwm 3.0 accessing external SD.
Try using overcome restock, jump to page 7 PDF.
Flash stock, then overcome kernel.
That gives cwm 5.0

Hi,
I managed to get CWM 5.5.0.4 and get ICS installed in my tab by using two files (CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS and P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJQ1_P1000XXJPZ). I would still like to use Overcome and I have had a brief look at the installation guide. I'll have a more thorough look and then give it a shot. I see that there is a version 4.1.0. Would I use that in that same way as the 4.0.0 ROM, because the Overcome7_ROMv4_Wipe file won't extract (there seems to be a problem with it and I've downloaded it twice).
You don't need the overcome ROM.
Just GB stock safe and overcome kernel.

You're looking at a sort of download mode designed for recovery. Use either Heimdall or Odin (Heimdall much preferred these days) to flash a full stock package including PIT with repartition checked.
@imran_jasper
No problem, it is just a soft brick:
either flashing process was interrupted (moved USB cable or so)
or you've tried to flash wrong files (corrupted or incompatible)
possibly you've used an uncompatible Odin version for your device
or you simply didn't run Odin as administrator so it freezed
or Samsung Kies was running in the background and interrupted the flashing process
Just flash again proper files for your device and you will be fine. Turn it off and on again.
Use any stock ROM and PIT file if your partition was changed, otherwise just a ROM
Will give it a go. Thanks for replies.
I take it that the tab does not have to be in download mode and I can flash from the screen that I have?

Another thing I wasn't clear about in my first post:
Prepare all files in Odin first, and run your Tab into download mode just shortly before you start flashing
The reason is that many devices could kind of "asleep", fall in some kind of standby if nothing happens.
By some devices, this kind of "sleep" in download mode happens already just after 30sec (like the GT-i9000)

broken Recovery Mode.. help needed

Hello,
first i want to excuse me for my bad english, i hope you will understand my problem.
I have a rooted GT-S5830 with Froyo (2.2.1).
The plan was to install CWM and then a custom Rom.
I've downloaded CWM 5.0.2.6 for the Galaxy Ace, renamed the .zip to update.zip (it doesn't work while it was named CWM_XXXXXXX.zip), copied it to SD-Card and installed it via the original Recovery Mode.
The Installation went well, i rebooted the phone and everything was fine.
Now the problem: I can't go to the Recovery Mode.
Every Time I press Home and Power, my Phine stuck at the second SAMSUNG-Logo and, after a few minutes, it boot to the"normal" Mode.
I've tried to do an update via KIES, but my Notebook says that the Phone will not be seen in Download-Mode...
Odin didn't see the Phone (same Problem...Download Mode...)
So... Is there any Idea to restore the Recovery Mode or renew it or... whatever.
Thank you all
greetings
stanse
now everything is broken...
OK,
thank you for thinking about it, now the Phone doesn't boot any more.
It stucks at the first SAMSUNG Logo.

Here is the link on how to install stock Gingerbread rom using odin along with all firmwares. Go to the "Preparations" section and download all the necessary files including drivers. When your notebook cannot detect the phone, its usually the drivers. To go to the download mode, hold Vol Down+ Home + Power button until you see "Downloading..." in the screen.
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
Once installed, go to recoverymod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,

Thank you for your post.
The biggest problem is that the phone will not be shown in download mode, so Odin says that there is no phone connected.
I have tried 3 different driver packages...
The link to Samsung says that the phone (GT-S5830) is too old for letting me download any driver.
I think that everything will work when the phone will be recognized by computer..
Thx

I don't know what you mean by connecting to Linux. But if you meant using odin in Linux, then well it will not work even with Wine. Wine doesn't work reliably with things that need hardware connections.
