HTC ONE camera problems - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I like the Htc one so much that I haven't bought just one phone. I have bought 2. The first one was directly from Htc so it's factory unlocked unbranded phone , works perfect (except from the capacitive buttons issue I keep hearing more an more about, an issue that I had on my one x and hopefully will be fixed in future updates). The second one on the other hand was an upgrade on my three UK contract so obviously a three branded phone (HT344W batch). Well the same capacitive buttons issue but there is another one more frustrating (and by doing a little search on google I have found a few other people with phones from older batches on three UK that have the same problem with camera being unable to focus . Does anyone know of any fixes or ing ideas if to send phone back to three or Htc? I know three will simply send u another one which will probably have same issues if not others and after 2-3 phones they will send it to Htc for repairs (which shouldn't be a case in the first place since you buy a NEW device not a fixed one)
thanks in advance

softkeys problem

I'm having problems with the softkeys, specially the left one it usually bounces and repeat the keystroke.
Has this happened to anyone?
similar problems here. little bit irritating.
Sometimes, too. More than that I have to push it few times to make it "click"
This was my last HTC
Same here! Weird.
I have this problem too. And also my camera have one horizontal line that changes color, on preview and on pictures. I tried to contact HTC in UK because i bought my phone there (i live in Croatia). But no response.
Same problem
Hi,
I have the same problem in my phone bougt this christmas. Left and right from joistick, and both softkeys work very very bad. Sometimes I have to press hard to obtain some response and others only one press makes two or three movements. This is very anoying while selecting pictures or using the calendar.
I'm searching for the invoice to take it to the technical service.
Best regards,
same problem here, can you please tell me wich rom you are using, the HTC rom or WM 6.1. I'm using 6.1 ROm and am wondering if the problem is ROM related or a hardware issue
Hardware, I kept the phone as it came in the box.

Ive just sent my phone off to HTC to be looked at (hopefully repaired under warranty). I've had the same stress cracks a lot of people seem to be having. And also the problem of multiple button presses randomly, lost count of the number of blank sms replies i sent because of it.
I'll let you know if I notice any improvement when i get the phone back or if they mention it at all.
problem
I sent 2 time my s730 to repair service for this problem. Finally they change the keyboard. The problem is reduced but not really solved.
I'm not sure it is a HW problem.
My phone is going back to HTC on monday...
1) single keypress jumps the menu twice
2) cracks in the side where the screws start
3) phone is very slow
The guy on the helpdesk asked me if I had ever upgraded my phone... so I had to tell him that it is HTC policy to not make any new updates for phones, they just bring out new phones... no reaction whatsoever...

Diamond bricked ?

Hi, everytime i turn on my diamond, it just shows white noise. Does that mean it's bricked ? Sometimes i might get lucky and it'll run normally but then restart itself and show noise again. I tried entering bootloader and reflashing spl and ROM, and it all goes well but it never flashes on. It'll get stuck at 0% and on the computer, it'll say that there was an error. I need to reflash the original spl and rom before i send it in so the warranty doesn't get voided.
Hi, I have had a major problem with my diamond for the last 2 months now...
Basically, my problem has the same symptoms as your phone, (I.E. the screen may freeze on bootup, showing a snowy effect), as well as freezing consistently for no apparent reason....
Anyway, the problem that I am having is heat related...
(I know, I know... Please read on for more information)...
When I say heat related, I dont mean that my Diamond is too hot to hold...
My Diamond only works when the ambient temperature is around 10*C or below 15*C...
Any temperature above that (room temperature), and the phone will work for a minute or so.....
HTC Support in Australia has acknowledged that there is a problem with the phone, and have told me that the phone was shipped from Turkey, and that I should contact them for warranty service...
However HTC Turkey have been close to useless when replying to my problem.
I suggest you check to see if the symptoms are the same as mine, and if so, get on to the HTC Customer Dont Care hotline for your country, and see if they are a little bit more helpful when it comes to this problem, than HTC Turkey have been with me !
(2 months and still waiting for an address to send my HTC Diamond for warranty repair)....
For those of you wondering what symptoms, and what I have tried to fix the problem... Read On.....
To flash your phone to its original ROM, try cooling the phone down (Place it in the fridge for 10 minutes or so, then attempt to reflash)....
It took me 15 attempts before I got it to flash 100% (The thing would warm up, then crash)...
Please note : reflashing the ROM did nothing to fix my phone.
---------------
Here is one of the emails that I sent to HTC Australia Support (HTC Australia was very very helpful, and I sincerely thank them for trying to help me out)...
Hi Amr, (HTC Australia)
Thankyou for your advice in regards to the HTC Diamond Phone.
Ill try and describe the symptoms a bit better so as you may have more of an idea about the problem that I am experiencing.
At the moment, if I do a memory clear, at room temperature, (25*C) the phone will display the following
1) The Touch Diamond Boot Screen
Roughly 30 seconds later....
2) The Green Windows Mobile Preparing your device for first use. Screen
This screen will be displayed for about 45 seconds... At this point the device will do either of the following
a) It will reset, vibrate, and then show the Touch Diamond Boot Screen Again, though sometimes the screen is garbled (Has lines and/or a snow effect through it)
or
b) The device will hang, typically with the screen being garbled much like above.
When the device hangs, all the buttons (Except the reset button) no longer function.
Resetting the device using the reset button will reboot the device fine, but at this point it will always hang when the boot screen is displayed.
Removing the battery, waiting for say 30 seconds, then replacing the battery and trying again results in the device still hanging at the boot screen.
At this point, the temperature is not hot... I would honestly say the temperature is only 5*C more than room temperature.
Before I had this problem, the phone would get much hotter than this, but It never got to a temperature that I would call extremely hot....
The only reason why I "Think" it might be temperature related is that If I leave the device to cool down to room temperature, then I can repeat the steps above,
without the phone hanging at the boot screen...
Also, If I have the phone next to a fan, with the back off, I can usually get the phone to boot up, and I can calibrate the touch screen,
and the phone will proceed to customise itself.
To be honest though, it doesnt usually complete this last step successfully, and will hang during this proccess....
I havent been able to get the phone to the point where the phone has displayed the touchflo interface for over a week now, however the windows OS functions ok until the device hangs.
This is what I have tried so far...
A Clear Memory, as well as a clear memory and format using the Start->Settings->System-> Clear Software Function...
I have also tried to clear Memory, and Format moviNAND using the Volume Down, Enter, Reset - then Volume Down Method
Using these methods, the phone will clear its memory successfully, it will then reboot, and depending on how long the phone has been on for,
it may, or may not progress past the Touch Diamond Boot Screen...
Because I cannot get the phone to reliably boot up, I cannot establish an Active-sync connection, So I have not been able to try the ROM Upgrade Yet.
If the phone is faulty due to user negligence (I.E. There is something I am doing wrong software wise), then I will be more than happy to pay to get the problem rectified,
however, I can honestly say that I am stumped as to what could be causing this problem, let alone how to fix it....
The phone is in immaculate condition, is only 2 months, 2 weeks old now, has always been protected by a leather pouch, and also has a screen protector on it.
Understandably, the phone has been babied since I bought it new, and I am somewhat stressed at the prospect of it failing so early in its life cycle.
The Phones Serial Number is HT82GN55656
The phone was bought from a company in Hong Kong.
I contacted the company that sold me the phone and they had this to say
As the items were originally distributed abroad, therefore it does not come with the Australian warranty. However, sometimes the local service centre may still provide official warranty service if you provide them with our company invoice. In cases where, the local service center refuses to warranty the item, you may send the item back to the overseas supplier for a warranty service (12 months).
To be honest, this company has been less than helpful with any inquiries in regards to warranty.
If you could let me know how I should / could proceed with getting the phone repaired under warranty, I would greatly appreciate it !
Thank you again for your help in this matter
Kind Regards
Matti Jones
As I pointed out before, I stuck the phone in a fridge (Powered Down, no battery) for 15 minutes, which chilled the phone well below room temperature...
I then flashed the phone successfully with the latest Official HTC ROM.
(The flash process would take awhile around the 13% mark, but would progress smoothly after this point)...
I then chilled the phone again, and was able to calibrate the screen, and the phone was able to do its customization stuff that it does after the initial calibration and setup...
Finally, I chilled the phone again, and was able to boot it up into the touch flo interface, and open programs (However I couldnt test the phone function, because of the amount of time required to SIM unlock, and power up the phone functions).....
----------------------------------------
Honestly, I am not impressed....
HTC Australia didnt confirm it, but it sounds like a few of these phone have this fault, but they cannot trace it back to a root cause.
The phone worked brilliantly for the first 2 months that I had it.
It just got worse and worse over a period of 2 days, to the point where I cannot use it unless I place it in a fridge for 15 minutes to power it up
i didn't know anybody else had the same exact symptoms. Everything you just stated matches exactly what has been going on with my phone. However, I have already sent it in to the Taiwan company from which i bought the phone. And i did not reflash the spl or ROM, so there is a very very very very near 100% chance that they will void the warranty...unless my dad can smooth talk them out of that =]. But as soon as i get any sort of news back, i will let you know. Perhaps because it isn't a software issue, it might not void the hardware part of the warranty (unless they're assholes).
Same Problem
Same problem with my diamond, I have sent it to Service center, and its 50 days now I have not got my phone back. They have not even done anything, they are waiting for some part to be replaced, which was not available there.
Lets hope it comes back with everything working fine.
Total 3 problems with my HTC touch diamond -
1. Freezing, finally not booting
2. Wifi did not work, this problem started with in a week I got my mobile\
3. Sound problem, when I am talking on phone, other person gets very little voice there.
It seems HTC is using cheap h/w parts, I don't think next time ever I am going to buy any mobile from HTC. Two mobiles I purchase from HTC, both of them were very bad in hardware quality.
Pissed at HTC Now
You think that's Bad !!!!!!
70 Days so far just trying to get HTC to tell me where the F*** I should send my phone for warranty repairs !!!!!!
Contact Warranty Service in Australia, they tell me to send it to the place of purchase (Hong Kong)...
I contact the place of purchase, and they tell me to go through HTC global warranty.....
Ok... I think to myself....
I contact Australia Tech Support (The ONLY helpful person I have spoken to from HTC), and exchange 10 or so emails, to discover that I must contact HTC Turkey for my warranty issue....
Deep breath from me now.....
I contact HTC Turkey, they reply asking for the Serial Number and symptoms.
I send them a copy of the 10 or so emails with HTC Australia, and receive no reply !
I send a couple of emails to the helpful HTC Australian tech support guy, politely asking if the issue could be escalated to upper management....
I get a reply saying HTC was trying to contact me on my mobile number (Yep, the mobile number which is my FAULTY Diamond Phone)...
Another week passes, and finally I start cracking the SH!TS with the helpful HTC Aus Guy...
Same Day, I get an email from HTC Global Warranty....
The Message, I must contact HTC Turkey for Warranty Repairs....
For [email protected]#$s sake.... Is HTC Global Warranty Service run by a bunch of [email protected]#$%wits ????????
So now I'm on Week 7 trying to contact HTC Turkey (Looks like another long winded, pointless and mind numbing international phone call again !)
I would be so p!$$ed but the phone only worked for 5 weeks before crapping out...
Short of going on a murderous rampage at HTC in Turkey, I have NFI what I should do next !!!!!!!!
HTC, if you are reading this, You can shove this Diamond up your @$$ !!!
Chill
Yep you are having a bad service.
If you can't use your phone that means it's not fit for the purpose for which it's been sold Do you have the equivalent of what we get in the UK your statutory consumer rights?
Consumer complaints comission or something similar?

I have a Touch Pro and fortunately I have had no such issues regarding the low temperatures you need to get it to boot up. Where did you actually purchase your phone? Did you get it through Vodafone or did you purchase it through a website or through overseas travel and as such not associated with Vodafone? I steer away from the latter as there is always the possibility of having to ship a phone overseas for warranty purposes. I had a TyTn II before this and when the touch screen failed and even (and this problem is not normally covered in warranty) the chrome interface peeling off I have had nothing but good experiences with HTC. I contacted them straight away though mentioning that I am a user of mobile phones for over 20 years and that I am very influential to many people including businesses who are looking for reliable good phones for which I would recommend them to purchase. This is all true and I must admit HTC were very efficient in getting the work required done as a top priority at the HTC repair centre PHONETEC in Nunawading, Victoria. That is where the work gets done to Australian spec HTC Phones which include Diamond and Pro.
I am sorry you aren't getting the results you are wanting but unfortunately there are differences in a few areas between phones shipped to Australia and phones shipped to other overseas markets and one reason I would expect this is because of the different climates ( some much colder than here in Aus) and I can see that there would be issues if you bought a phone that would normally be destined for a colder climate than one for Australia where temperatures can reach well into the 40's in some places including Melbourne (don't hear to much about 40's in Sydney haha Just had to include some weather interstate rivalry).
Anyway I wish you all the best getting it fixed. If you did not purchase through Vodafone or any of the other Australian telco providers I would hope that next time you would because their phones are fixed here when any problems occur and lets face it most things with technology in it do at some time and these phones being pocket PC's are more likely to have issues than a standard phone due to the complexity of our devices compared to your standard phones.
John
P.S if you want quick action another thing that doesnt hurt is to get threatening with the old consumer affairs drivel and media drivel if a satisfactory response is not recieved within 10 business days.
HTC is not to blame!
Ok, here´s the wise-a*# answer:
Now why did you buy your phone outside from the country you live in?
I quess because it was cheaper. You basically bought the pda on the grey market which is disliked by the manufacturer due to different reasaons. E.g. the differente warranties that have to be given according to the different laws of different countries. Sometimes the hardware and/or software packages differs from country to country. Also the wages for the support center employees differ, taxes differ and the rent for buildings or shop space differ between different countries. Those costs are included in any product sold worldwide and that´s why the pda costs less e.g. in Turkey. A global support usually only gives you advice on who the correct contact is, you can speak to.
So why should the HTC dependence in your country, which was absolutely not involved in your acquisition, do something for you? Because you tried to beat the system and save yourself some money?
The deal is to pay a bit more in a local store and get a fast and proper support or to buy it via internet on the other side of the world and spare some money.
If your device fails you have to return it to the destination, the device was primarly delivered to,in this case by HTC to Turkey. In Turkey the mindset is a compelete different, their language, their workings speed ...
Also taking legal action in foreign countries is quite difficult.
So in this case unfortunately you have to pay for saving.
I really don´t think that htc is to blame here and its shown why many people don´t import technical gadgets by themselfes.
Still hope things will work out for you.
bye,
Thilo
HTC is HTC anywhere in the world.
The only problem with taking to your local reseller for quaranty reasons is that he can't use any other WM version after the repair , other than that of the original device. So if it is a turkish rom and your phone is defective , even if they replace the board , you will still end up with a turkish rom and a board shipped from turkey.
INTERNATIONAL WWE guaranty , means just that!!!

A major issue!

Hello everybody.
I seem to have a unique problem since searching this forum has not showed anything like it.
My X1 has dead hardware keys (includes the slide out keyboard). Now when I say dead I don't mean completely. The thing is some of them actually work (although very few of them) and the others either seem to want to turn down my volume unsuccesfully (the volume slider on the screens just kinda jumps down and back to where it was) or they are completely unresponsive. The problem is the volume keys on the side of the phone are one of the unresponsive ones wich prevents me from doing a hard reset or upgrading firmware.
I sincirely hope someone can help me with this since it has been months since my keys worked and the slideout keyboard was the reason I got this phone (that and it's a SE)
Regards
Joe
I'd go to Sony Ericssons website and find their phone number for your country and ring them, usually they say send it to them and in my xperience they sent it back within a week!
(If you have custom ROM etc installed though then that will not work)

The thing abou that is : i'm from Croatia, I work in Afghanistan and I bought the phone in Dubai. Do you thin they would still take it?
The warranty conditions isn't that hard to find on sonyericssons web site but they do have world wide warranty. One thing that might make some trouble for you if SE never sold your piece in Afghanistan. I phoned UK for some help on my X2 during the Easter but they couldn't since they never sold the X2 in UK. Wrong or right, i don't know but they couldn't help me. I live in Sweden and the bastards did close for Easter.
I've torn a X1 apart but I can't remember if the volume buttons were attached by ribbon cable but a search at youtube for xperia disassemble would give you the answer and some help on the way to perhaps fix the problem yourself (thinking it might be a loose cable)

[Q] Htc One M7 Camera Purple Tint Issue

Hi I recently purchased sealed Uk Vodafone htc one 801n m7 factory unlocked . 7k cheaper or you can say around $110 usd cheaper .
Its camera didn't had any issue out of the box on 4.1.2, but as I updated one patch maybe was for camera and then,4.2.2, 4.3, and now on 4.4.2 , still It has the purple tint camera issue which comes on the edges of the screen just indoors in normal or low light, if kept flat on table then screen becomes purple clouded and not all black . Camera though is awesome in day light images .
Please note I did the saturation, iso tricks but still nothing
It had one more issue before that when I used to click middle menu button, it used to show black shadowed icons, then pressing menu button again to go out and pressing again to go in, then they used to get fine . I Got scared if it was a hardware issue!
I did reset from settings and issue was still there and still unnoticeable issues/bugs were still there like removing any blinkfeed service (when sliding to left for blinkfeed highlights menu or whatever we say to it) but it was still there on the highlights menu .
So I found the best way to reset is to do it the volume down and power button way, after I did that .... I havn't faced yet (touchwood) any such menu icon issue . And what I select is only shown in blinkfeed menu now and others are removed If not selected . Even facebook connected a different stylish way when I logged in for firt time after this way reset .
I will strongly recommend to all to only reset the volume down and power button way for proper reset, and not to do it from settings specially for our awesome m7 .
Just the camera purple tint is still there and to get it repaired I will need to send my phone in the uk (as warranty is valid there only) which I cannot do, so any hopes still that an upcoming update might fix the camera issue or something ?
Other than this phone is awesome now and no bugs .

The camera is a hardware issue, not a software. I was a victim of this as well. You have only 1 solution- to give the phone for a camera replacement. I did the same and now its perfect.
Now, the issue is that u don't have local warranty. My suggestion would be to ask HTC India if they would repair it at a small fees. Shipping it to UK would be costly and would take time as well.

thanks for the reply. I will never give it for repairs , its a lot of tension dealing with illiterate service center people here in delhi , might also put scratches or dents to my new phone ... Htc service centers are private here not officially owned by htc , else international warranty would have worked for me here . But I had a word with them , they told it will cost Rs. 4,500 and first will open the phone and will check if have that particular camera part or not . As my htc one is 801n lte 4g , lot of hassles so not dealing that way .
Wish someone still gives me hope that it might gets fixed via update , as it was all fine when I checked it at the shop without doing any updates on it . I mean doesn't makes much sense .

Ya im Indian, I know how it is
Here, in Dubai also, HTC also outsources its repairs to another private company. They polished the phone and everything and returned it a better state as compared to what I gave it in.
IMO 4.5K INR is worth it

This along with turning the iso to 200 really did help my spare phone
it's actually usable now, albeit lower quality
My HTC One M7 was bought an year ago (India). Had purple tint even at that time. But bearable, it became worse day by day. Gave it to the customer care center as the grace days of my phone's warranty. Got it repaired after a week, works perfect! No purple tint. HTC Fanboy Foreve'!
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Mobile App.
I recently discovered my HTC ONE M7 has dead pixels on the top of the screen (notifications bar, which sucks as you cant access any shortucut to the notifications and need to look for the app on your own) and in the middle of the screen (when there is something to click on that spot i have to scroll up or down where the screen actually works. In some cases the page can't be scrolled down or zoomed therefore I am just screwed without options).
Turns out this happens 6 months after I got this phone exchanged by HTC (because the original phone I bought had a defective camera with purple color bug). This means the screen of the "new" phone I got has a life span of 6 months without defects only. SIX MONTHS!!
It seems when HTC replaces your phone for a new one they are just giving you defective products or refurbished products, which will break shortly after.

[Q] HTC ONE Touchscreen gone CRAZY: random select

Good day to all members and gurus! Apologies if this issue have been issued already but I cnt find it here.
I have a HTC ONE (m7 international) for almost a year now, but it was only (2 software update ago) I have this touchscreen problem where in it selects anything on the screen, when keyboard is up, it will type anything, answer/end calls etc.
Went to the internet and found out that it's not just HTC One having this issue but other HTC models as well. Some say it's the digitizer, water issue, phone fell to the ground, malwares, incompatible apps, till it looks like everyone points to any possible cause.
Some went to their telcos and the companies just replaced the phone with new one but what about to others who do not have the warranty anymore? I talked the HTC Customer Rep. but as always they just gave me scripted answer and eventually asked me to go to HTC center, unfortunately for me, I need to fly just to get there.
So anyone here with a solution to this HTC-forsaken-issue? Install, uninstall something, anything that would end this misery.
Thanks alot!

Thanks alot!

if you modded the phone, return to stock and see if the issue persist, if not modded, do a factory reset and check the issue. if it still occur, this is probably a faulty digitizer and you'll have to send the phone for repair.
