Can someone please tell me how the performance of the N7 compares to the GNex and N4? I know its a phone to tablet comparison, but I'm only looking at performance.
I recently went from the GNex to the N4 and the N4 blows it away. I'm hoping that the performance of the N7 is equal to that of the N4.
The GNex is dual core with 1gig of ram, the N7 is quad core with 1gig of ram, and the N4 is quad core with 2gig of ram.
And one own all three, where does the N7 stack up?

After playing with all of them I think N7 is in the middle. It's not as smooth at times as the N4 is but is a bit better than the Gnex

Well this was to be expected because the N4 uses a better cpu/gpu than the N7. but the performance is quite good once you've put some tweaking into it.

N4 is fastest in everyday performance but my benchmark is like 12000 in an tutu and on my n7
Sent from my Nexus 4 @1.72 GHz on Stock 4.2.2
I have two of the three, and have had a GNex.
The N4 blows them both away, the N7's hardware is no slouch and for a mainly reading device, web browser, etc, it's excellent.
The GNex was good for it's time but it's horribly outmatched at this point in the game.
I had a GNex. I added an N7. Then I upgraded my phone to an N4.
The N4 is definitely the fastest of the three devices in terms of real-feel performance. That being said, with the proper setup, the N7 certainly does not feel slow or sluggish at all. I use mine primarily for browsing, reading, and watching movies, and it handles all of that without a stutter (as it should).
All that being said, if I was in the market for a tablet right now, I would hold off to see what Google announces this month. I'll probably be giving my N7 away and picking up a new one within the next two months.

Thats definitly the right. But in real world you can`t see big differences between n7 and n4, only in very heavy games there are minor slowdows on n7.

Not really... The difference is quite large.
Mainly because the N7 is powered by a Tegra 3 chip which is "overhyped" and not really that good even when it was first released.
The main faults of the Tegra 3 SoC are the 40nm process, slow single-channel memory, and a weak GPU based on old PC tech, compared to the PowerVR SGX, ARM Mali, and Qualcomm Adreno gpus that take advantage of tile-based deferred rendering.
You'll be looking at a sub 30 frames per second while playing graphically intensive games.
Even the tegra optimized games actually run better on the nexus 4.
You won't have any problems on stuff like cut the rope or temple run though...

Actually it runs on a choppy frame rate on the N7 compared to the stable 60fps on the N4.
Own booth N4 is far more powerful than N7 on some graphic intensive games.
But as I use mine N7 for reading an eBook/email, surfing the internet and sometime light-gaming the N7 doesn't feel slow at all it's just really smooth and feel almost the same as the N4.

The nexus 7 performs about equal to the galaxy nexus. The Tegra 3 isn't that much younger than the omap 4460, and even with 2 extra cores, the Tegra underperforms. The nexus 4 blows it away.
Still I'm not complaining, the nexus 7 owns the competition in that price range.

No seriously, 3D mark rates the nexus 7 the same as my htc vivid. My htc vivid has a Qualcomm snapdragon s3 dual core, which is right on par with the omap 4460. Tegra 3 performs like a high end dual core from 2011, gets blown away by modern day quads.

Ok so the galaxy nexus is terrible. Ti omap socs must just be awful. I know my wife's nook seems slow compared to my old captivate which had similar specs. No wonder. Ti apparently liked being a step behind the competition, Google should of used the snapdragon s3.

I got a nexus 7 for Christmas and don't even use it because of my nexus 4. I mean sure it has a bigger screen but it's slower and with the latest Paranoid Android update the screen on my nexus 4 is better as well!
I have a top of the line laptop and top of the line smartphone. Where does a dated tablet belong in this scenario? Maybe I could use it to watch Dragon Ball Z at the gym. Or load it up with porn and use it as a mobile fap station.
I think I'm just going to sell it, what do you guys think I could get for it? It's a mint 32gb wifi model.

dont think theres anything right now the adreno 320 can't handle. i mean come on, the unreal engine demo (epic citadel) ran on 60 fps on the N4. so it doesn't really make any difference. and the screen on the nexus 4 is significantly better than on the nexus 7.

But a lot of games are optimized for tegra and have added effects and graphics. I don't think he meant that it can't handle it, the nexus 4 is way more powerful. But games look better on the nexus 7.

Galaxy Nexus all the way. The Nexus 4 is too fragile and not worth the hassle in my opinion. Sure it has a quad core processor and 2Gb of RAM, but honestly.. who uses that on a phone.
I would recommend the HTC One X, but seriously... After some of the stuff HTC have been doing nowadays, I struggle to recommend HTC.
I have an original GNote and can't imagine having any thing else. There is a bigger difference in size then you would think.
And remember "When you go Note, 4 inches is a joke".

I am finding N4 compliments N7 greatly. Basically you get some great raw power on both devices, but the tegra in the N7 give way for different, but complimentary usage. Tegra exclusive games run with great power, while N4 runs non tegra with even greater power.
Maybe it was a design decision so that both devices have equal usage. XD
Well screen size is also a factor. I am not so interested in watching video on the N4. Still I find myself using both devices at once a lot. N7 definitely being the couch/bed lazy movie viewing device.

Happens in every forum. Everybody loves the phone they have and will defend it ruthlessly. When another, newer phone comes out people bash it. Just how it is. The sgs4 is a nice phone. After the nightmare of dealing with Samsung and ODIN I vowed NEVER to own a Samsung Phone again. SGS4 looks like more of the same as the SGS3 and as someone called it the SGS3s That is exactly Samsung's strategy. They are copying Apple even more in this regard. They will keep the SGS3 going for another year as the more "Affordable" SGS like they were doing with the SGS2 recently. Notice all the Deep discounts for the SGS3 lately? I can't wait to get my self all on the Nexus Line (as well as my Wife). Tired of all these bad Custom UIs and Carrier Hostage crises.

i think these rumours are just partially true. i dont think google will release a phone with 5.2" for now, im not even sure it will be 5". just look at the htc one, 4.7" and full hd, i think that would be perfect.
3gb ram... sounds weird. i think theyre gonna stick with 2 gigs. never seen my n4 run above 1.2 in usage.
2.3ghz cpu = snapdragon 800. might be true, although they might go with tegra4. either way, its gonna pack a lot of power.
no microsd slot is reasonable, just give me the opportunity to have at least 32 gigs of storage, and im gonna be fine.
the biggest hit with the n5 will be key lime pie imo. the hardware is waay ahead of the software if we're talking about android.
we need sw optimizations, and for the love of god, do something with the battery! the most annoying thing of any smartphone is that it must be charged every day if used normally.
im really interested in motos x phone, it should - like moto usually does - deliver decent battery life with good hardware and if the rumours are true, it will have vanilla android = its a win for me.

The main issue I see is that you have a ton of basement coders with no real training or experience releasing apps onto the Play Store loaded with inefficient and just poor code. That, I think, will be the main issue causing the "need" for more resources.
Shall we get into why quad and octa core CPU's in a phone are ridiculous with multi threading being in the state it's in or leave it alone?
OK so looks like LG and Google are at it again. I don't even care at this point, either a Moto nexus for probably more money or LG at same price point. Most likely it is LG at this point and we lose the snap 800 in g2 but get the rest.

This is just a made up report based on zero facts. Just like the Moto Nexus rumor. Until there is some real insider information, I wouldn't pay any attention to these rumors.
The thing about a "rumor" is anyone can say whatever they want and claim no responsibility if they are wrong. Being there are about 5 different "next" nexus rumors in this forum, most of these are just brain children of their authors.
Personally, I take everything with a spoonful of salt until Google announces the device.

Sounds familiar...
The G2 is to big
I like how much space is covered by the screen, but the overall size of the phone is to huge in my opinion. Maybe better a 5" screen?
Everything else sounds great for the same price of the N4. But 32GB would be nice.
Buttons on the side are a must. Those back Button are strange.
Isn't there a thread already talking about LG and the rumors about the Nexus 5? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2396728
Another useless thread started!
Who cares if it lacks Snapdragon 800 the 600 also includes the hardware necessary for always on listening. Nexus has never been about the absolute bleeding edge processors anyways.

Wasn't the g2x equipped with the fastest processor of its time when it was released as well?

Correct. G2X was the first dual core phone. And still, IMO, one of the best phones ever made.

G2X was great until Nvidia wouldn't release drivers for ICS. Hardware wise, it had a lot of potential.

G2X good phone & cheap to replace the screen its still my backup. I may be alone on this but I am going to buy the LG/Moto Nexus 5 no matter what at this point.

The Atrix was released about 2 months after the Optimus 2X. I actually had an O2X, worst phone I ever had. ****ty software support as well, took LG well over a year to release ICS, and even then, it was buggy as sh*t etc. Hardware was decent though
I'd rather have Motorola get a chance to build a Nexus phone with the Moto X design.
At least they release it, moto abandoned us

IMO Moto X design and size is great, but unfortunately everything else is dissapointment. I would like to see next Nexus will have similar design to Moto X, but better CPU (Snapdragon 600 or 800), and better body materials (Kevlar instead on Moto X's plastic).
Please discuss further in the existing Nexus 5 thread
