[Q] Slim Bean and Semaphore Kernel Help. - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, I am running Slim Bean Build 5 and since it uses the Semaphore kernel does it include Voodoo Sound? If so do I just need to download the app and it will run? Or is it a modified version of the kernel? I've had a lot of trouble with recording in loud environments like concerts and really need to get rid of the sound distortion.
Thanks in advance,
Nik

Here's your answer, in Captivate Development forum, in Stratosk's Semaphore Kernel thread, first post, giving the feature list.

You need to install Supercurio's Voodoo Sound app from play store.

Ah so it uses that one, there were so many versions and I couldn't find it on the slim website, I'll go install the app and hopefully be able to finally record concerts without distortion.
Thanks,
Nik

Dragon Kernel 2.6 - With Voodoo Sound

Normal: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Kernel-Voodoo-v2.6.zip
OC: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Kernel-Voodoo-OC-v2.6.zip
I rebased on the latest source from Samsung, JPX. Yes, it's still i9k based. Hopefully it helps a little with battery and such, won't know till it's been out for a while. The speedmod patch has also been updated, but the OC patch is the same. I also included my backport of the auto-group scheduler patch. So far, both of them are working well for me.
Both kernels are voodoo enabled and will enable voodoo if you don't already have it. If you don't want that, you need to install the voodoo-disable zip before flashing, or just put the disable-lagfix file in place before flashing. If you already have voodoo enabled on your phone, you do NOT need to disable it before flashing these kernels, as long as your current kernel has voodoo recovery (red Clockwork recovery), you are good to go.
Tested on Nero V4, but should work on other Froyo based ROMs as well.
If you are going to try the OC version, please download both of them and have the normal version ready, just in case. You can also use adb push from Clockwork if you can get it booted to recovery. Clockwork also has USB storage you can enable to be able to mount your phone's memory cards from a computer, so that you can put the non-OC version on there if you get stuck.

I'm hoping it does, too!
Very nice!!! Thanks supercurio and ttbabbal!
I'm hoping it works out well...curse Samsung for not releasing the 2.2 vibrant source yet, though.
External SD Mount issue
Everything works great but I no longer can mount my external SD card. That's where I keep all my music. Anyone else having this issue?
I will probably get flamed... but what is the difference in the speedmod patch and the dragon kernal. I was a bit confused in understanding what the speedmod patch is and does. Thanks!
any way to make the new 5.1 voodoo sound kernels compatiable with the vibrant JL5 latest source from Samsung, JPx its not for vibrant kernel
Just to clarify, for full Voodoo Sound experience, will we also need to install the Voodoo Sound app from the Market?

That's right. It allows you to control the parameter, which is so far for Vibrant only the headphone amplifier level.
Is this better than DOW kernel by tw?

Installed the non-oc version on my vibrant, and downloaded the market "voodoo" app.
Looking forward to hopefully being able to one day control the microphone AGC on the vibrant!

Considering the DoW kernel made my screen shake / flicker and this OC one doesn't, I'd say yes. Voodoo sound is also a nice plus.

CF-Root kernel.
Don't use cf-root kernel. JVH uses changed RFS filesystem. For now best method is using voodoo kernel for JVH

So all I need to do is install Voodoo Control Plus and I'll get Voodoo sound? I thought I had to install a custom kernel?

Yep, no need for kernel, as long as you're rooted you just need Voodoo Control Plus, supercurio's made it easier than ever to get great sound, buy the app, support the legend

The free version requires a custom kernel. The paid version does not. Read the description of the apps in the market for more information. Be sure to rate the apps 5* as well because they work great.

I'll rate it as soon as my get my SGS working again. I've been installing a few different custom kernels and mods just trying to find one that I like that had the Voodoo kernel. I can now go back to stock JVH! WOO!
I installed the voodoo control plus from the market and it works very well.

[Q] What hacks can I put in a rooted stock JW4 rom?

Just upgraded my I9000 to 2.3.6 JW4 and added a rooted kernel.
Since no kernel with features are available for this firmware, what hacks can I make manually?
Stuff like Voodoo sound, BLN, etc. (links to the corresponding threads would be nice).
Thanks.

Yeh those mods worked a treat for me - I also installed this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1571527
Odex version worked for me - my favourite aspect: landscape home that actually rotates quickly for once
This (and plants vs zombies) is giving me a hard time deciding whether to go back to aokp ics ...
That rom started randomly freezing up on my so restored to a nandroid version with just the mods - still enjoying jw4, contemplating slim ics...

Voodoo Sound Plus doesn't need kernel support. Just having root is enough, though it's a paid app.
Also consider installing ThunderBolt! for some speed/battery life increase

Try Semaphore. In my opinion it is the best Kernel for our SGS.
Overclocking works great. No freezes, reboots etc. There is also an app called Semaphore Manager (Play Store). It has a bunch of different options to play with.
If you want to enable more RAM download the s version and Bigmem Libs.
