WiFi connection issue... - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having an issue where I cannot stay connected to my WiFi network. Everytime I disconnect, I have to sign back in...it won't auto connect. I've tried multiple roms and kernels with the same result. Any quick fixes that yall know of?

Actually I have a problem with mine dropping WiFi all together. I know it is working because my husband's iPhone stays connected and it still works when mine has dropped. Lost 4 calls today because of that problem. Tried tinkering with the WiFi setting on the One between 2.5 ghz and 5 ghz and auto. Makes no difference. Connection lasts maybe 5 or 10 minutes then it disconnects. If you have a solution let me know.

Have you tried looking to see if your phone is actually saving the password? It is saved in the following location;
/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Open this file up using a file explorer with root capabilities. Is your network SSID and password in there?

If your wifi is dropping whilst sleeping I found out this may be cause: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267281 (at the end of the thread)

It is saving it because all I do to get it back on
Is turn off WiFi and turn it back in again. Then it works for five minutes or so. And I looked at the link that was provided above and made sure I had WiFi on always power saver off etc. See what it does tonight.

Sorry, my response was directed towards the OP. Should have made that clearer.
Sometimes dropped connections with android phones comes from having your router set to 'auto' for channel selection. If yours is this setting, try changing it to a fixed channel. Use the app Wi-Fi Analyzer to find a clear channel.

Well I contacted HTC, and I did the steps ad posted above and so far no problem. Of course it will probably happen after I post this knock on wood. Didn't have to do what HTC said below since it works now but will definitely do it if the problem persists. I also uninstalled a battery widget because one of the posts said to try that also.
We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with the Wi-Fi connection on your HTC One and can certainly provide some assistance to help resolve the issue.
To start, we will need to check a setting on the device. From the Home screen, access Settings>Wi-Fi>Menu>Advanced. Make sure the DLNA Auto-IP is disabled. Also, I know you have also changed it prior but set the Wi-Fi frequency band to 2.4 GHz. We will need test the combination to see if there is any difference.
If needed, we will need to make sure there is not an issue with the phone trying to get through your network’s security. For this, we will first need to remove the network from the phone. Access Settings>Wi-Fi then tap and hold on the name of the network to select Forget Network. Once done, reboot the phone and temporarily remove the security from the network. It should be open with no password and the SSID being broadcast. This is only temporary so we can test the phone to see if the same thing continues with an unsecured network. Once this is tested, you can add the security back to the network.
We would also recommend testing the phone with other public networks to see if you still having issues with the connection.
Feel free to reply should you have any further questions, Christina. If you feel more comfortable discussing issues by phone, you can contact Technical Support at 1-866-449-8358, 8 am to 1 am ET, 7 days a week.

Having the same issue with the wifi. Connection is erratic even if I am in the same room as the router/superhub. I went to the store today and they tested it there as well. They uninstalled some power saving apps and it seemed to work ok but at home same issues. Loosing connection when surfing and if I leave the room no connection at all.
Will have to get back to the store tomorrow to get it replaced.

Hey, are ya using an international ROM on an ATT One? I know with trick droid there was a recent issue where ya had to select "international" mode for things like WiFi to stick, WiFi tethering etc.
Ps. I remember ya from the GN2 Forums! My old username was cjsspape haha

Yea man...I remember you...haha. The One is bringing a lot of good people over from what I've been seeing.
As far as using an international ROM, yes I am....was using Trickdroid, but now I'm trying out AndroidRevolution 8.0...same issue. Next time I flash another Rom, I'll try the international setting instead of the ATT setting. Wouldn't I have to change the APN if I did that, or does that setting adjust something else?

Nah I didn't have to change anything. I get average 15-25 meg lte speed. A lot of guys were having the WiFi passwords reset on boot with the att package checked in aroma. From what I've seen the only difference with international & att is the signal icons. I had to switch because WiFi tether wasn't working under att.

Day two and WiFi still going good! Have no clue why it was doing it the first day I did it. Just turned power saver off. WiFi on during sleep always. Removed my battery widget. Rebooted phone, no problems since.

I sometimes have the same wifi problem. I think I have to wait untill there is a software fix.
UPDATE: I bought a new router (<with wifi support 2G and 5G) and all my problems are solved.

Call Sprint, ask them for Airave ver 2.5. The one we have is either 1.0 or 2.0.. and it is not fully compatible with latest phones like ONE or S4..
They will, ofcourse, ship to you for free!

Check my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281275. I logged in my Sprint and went to manage airave and there is an allow all option or restrict access where you can enter the phones numbers for access. Check this and see what yours are. Mine has been working all day after discovering this setting

call airave support, they will do something and make it work :good: Thats what i did
This worked for me:
1. Unplug Airave
2. Update PRL on phone; reboot it.
3. Turn phone on airplane mode.
4. Plug in Airave and wait for it to boot completely.
5. Turn off airplane mode and wait for it to establish data connection.
6. Test.

I have an airrave installed in my office at work. Have multiple phones on it every day, really no issues. Never had text issue with my new one either. Have an S3 & two evo LTE's on it as well without issues. I always shut the airrave off when doing any kind of programming or updating profiles.
Just got word from Sprint today that there is a known error involving the Airave and GPS synchronization, ever since the last update that is. No eta, but they are working on it.

In all fairness, 3 isn't and has never been a great network, they've gotten a bit better but still need some work.
As for your phone.
Check your APN (reset it and check it)
Check packet data is on ( you'd be surprised)
Obviously do a long hold on power to reboot the phone fully.
Remove the sim and check it in another phone.
Try a different 3 sim in your phone if possible.
I have had a few problems with my sim not being recognised at all and knocking airplane mode on for a few seconds seems to fix it.
Hope this helps m8
PS: its possible it could just be a problem with the network too, give them a call.

Yes, me too.
Since around 22:00 last night. I've tried
Rebooting my phone
Toggling airplane mode
Toggling mobile data
Removing SIM card
My mobile data in settings is switched on and has "Disconnected because service is unavailable" written underneath it.
Hopefully they get it back on today at some point...

I'm also on three. Flashed the newest trick ROM with 4.2.2 at about 11 last night and now no mobile data at all!
Definitely an issue with the network
It's not your settings or your handset or your sim or your ROM - it's the 3 network, people are reporting a problem with mobile data connections across the UK.

WiFi speed is slower after sleep.

Ok, so have noticed this using the speedtest.net app.
When the phone is brought out of stand by / sleep, my download speed is 3 meg, which is slow , if I turn Wi-Fi off and back on, and redo speed test, I get my full speed of 60-70 meg.
I have tested to see if turning the power savers off make a difference, and have checked that keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is on. Nothing seems to make a difference.
Any comments. ??

I don't use wifi that much so I can't say I've noticed. I have noticed however, when my phone's been asleep, I often have issues with mobile data not being on ... It is fine for large periods of time when I'm using my phone more regular but if I leave it for a while it usually says "Turning On" in settings and often never changes until I tuen it off and let it settle lol.

I don't expect that it is region related. Maybe nobody checks the data speed with speedtest.net....
Is there another app to test your data speed because maybe it is related to speedtest.net?

Tested it with another speed test app and the results are the same.... So it is related to the device itself...
Yep I have also tested with another, and its the same .
Just had a load of play store updates, slow download speed, turn WiFi off and on and then the speed dramatically improves.
Definitely a problem.

Well, today I did a phone reset...this appears to have resolved the problem.

Bugger...
It appears the problem is still there.!

I have the same issue with a HTC One bought through Dial-a-phone and on the O2 network. I sent my first HTC One back
for a replacement, but the replacement has the same problem, so it's not a fault with the handset hardware per-se, more likely
the wifi chipset or firmware.
I have also found that the wifi does not automatically switch between access points on the same SSID, i.e while walking
through a building - it just hangs on to the on it associated with first and won't switch to a better AP even if you're standing
right underneath it. Very irritating. I have found the app 'WiFi Fixer' to be of some use in reconnecting. That also seems to
act the same as turning the wifi on and off, so avoiding the low speed issue.
Interestingly, in my testing, while the speed test app has been showing the downstream limited to 2mit, transfers back and forth
to my local NAS have been fast. It's almost as if the 2mbit 'cap' only applies to traffic going through the default gateway (usually
a home router or the like) but the problem manifests on corporate LANs too with sophisticated Cisco equipment, so you can't really
blame the LAN.
I've logged a ticket with HTC which was allegedly 'escalated' but I'm not that hopeful of a positive outcome!

Hotspot & WiFi Direct should work on $600 phone

Hi pals. It's been 3 years I'm buying HTC and have had awesome time with them. I'm THE ONLY ONE in my family and friends with HTC and all others buy Samsung.
WiFi Direct didn't work on my One X and I'm really VERY disappointing to know that it doesn't work on One too. All Samsung phones around me have built-in WIFI DIRECT option when they try to share a pic or a video. We don't have anything in our 'share' menu.
I tried using FAST FILE TRANSFER app on my phone. It works like a charm on any phone and transfer 1gig of data within 5 minutes. BUT it's not for me AGAIN! I ran the app and the error came up saying, "wifi hotspot not working on your device. This is how it is implemented in the OS and don't rate the app bad."
I got outta app and turned hotspot on manually and guess what! NO OTHER MOBILE PHONE is able to connect to my HTC One's wifi hotspot. They find the network and get stuck on getting IP ADDRESS.
Wifi hotspot worked in previous devices. Instead of making other stuff work we now have a not-working-hotspot.
I really am a die hard HTC fan but how will HTC get users when they won't care for this petty issue. All samsung around me NEVER use BT unless they're to deal with me.
Is there any way I can use WiFi Direct and WiFi Hotspot on my One?
WiFi Hotspot, if works, will do the job for me because FAST FILE TRANSFER will solve WiFi Direct issue.

WiFi hotspot uses default hotspot and that doesn't work. I was able to transfer data with LAN but both devices should've ES EXPLORER right? I already use ES so this is convenient for me as long as I'm at home because we all use ES as a file manager. But the transfer speed is only ~2MBps.
As a work around at home I use SOFTWARE DATA CABLE app and that gives me around 5-7MBps speed. Still it needs to be on both devices.
So any of this isn't practically possible when I'm trying to transfer data to my colleague or friend.

I'm having a very similar problem. I've used my HTC One to tether its 3G to my laptop several times, but it suddenly stopped working. My MacBook can recognize the network and even connect to it (sort of) but it says "no internet connection". Furthermore, the WiFi direct apps also have stopped working (I'm guessing the issue might be related). I used to use an app called "Flash Transfer". I've tried several different apps from the Play store, none of them work. It just says "Connecting" and the finally gives up and fails.
This is really very frustrating, especially since I got it to work before. I don't know what changed!

See that's the point. Now if I'm sitting in a cafe and need to transfer 200MB video I shot last night at a party I'll be forced to take my laptop out and transfer the video to laptop and then connect friend's phone to laptop.
Samsung users will select 'share' > 'WiFi Direct' > 'Send'
I can't make anyone else install the app in order to make WD work. Infact why should even I install it. It should work out of the box.
Never bought Samsung and never will but this thing is really pissing me off that only I use BT and no on else around me.

Under wifi settings is an option wifi direct. I can't check the one X nor check if it works atm.
Works out of the box for me.

Yes! Here it is but how to transfer data through this?
WiFi Direct connects to other device and now what to do next?
It's been around 2,3 months I'm banging my head trying to find a solution. Already gone through ALL options and almost 7-10 apps on play store. None worked.

The hotspot on this phone works just fine. It's something on your phone. Could be a hardware issue, you need to do a factory reset or reflash with your RUU. I have had no problems with my hotspot on my One, or on my One X.
Also, if you're running a stock rom thats from a carrier, they like to mess with the hotspot functionality.

Hotspot stopped working on One X when it came to 4.1.1. I don't have that phone any longer so not an issue. How could this be a HW issue?

7.0 wifi issues??

After official update to 7.0 from dp5 my n6 hates connecting to my router. My firestick, 2 HTC phones and Samsung galaxy tab connect just fine. Anyone having similar issues or is it a bug? It's driving me crazy, wait all this time for Google to get it ready and 2 days in it goes to s**t..

If it was the OTA from the preview, then you need a factory reset. All clean updates work nicely.

Was clean install from factory image. I'm Posting a few screen shots to show what it's doing... Full signal until I hit connect, then drops.

Mine works. Worked at once for setup, and since my work wifi worked too, and two more. Did you restart your rooter too?
Restarted router more times than I can count. Keep in mind the n6 is the only device in my house thats doing this. Worked yesterday, I am lost on this. I just got damn thing set back up and trying to avoid a factory reset again if possible.

I had trouble connecting to my router after an update quite a while ago. Forgetting the connection and reconnecting fixed it for me.

One of the first things I did. I had Xfinity out here today to check and it's all good, even upgraded modem. New connection and new modem didn't help.. it's not a major issue being it will pick up my neighbors open signal. Kinda glad I held off on Fi for now, screwed wifi wouldn't be good with that service

Is it on 5Ghz or 2Ghz? IIRC N6 can't connect to some certain channels on routers over 5Ghz unless you force your router to a N6 friendly channel.

I've also had luck by changing the password for the phone's connection on the router. If I remember right, I changed it, saved, changed it right back to what it was, and I could connect again.

I just gotta say thanks, I read your reply and was like how will that fix anything being I've factory reset 3 times and didn't let Google restore anything. Set up as new device. This actually fixed it... Now if ya can tell me why and how that would be incredible lol.

You're welcome, and I'm glad it worked for you! Someone suggested that to me when I was having the same problem years ago. I don't remember specifically, but I think it was something to do with the phone's BT profile or ID changing enough that the router's security wouldn't recognize it as the same device. Changing the password and changing it back somehow reset everything and allowed it to connect as a new device.
can confirm, changing the "wireless network key" in the router was the only thing that worked, my device just refused to connect to wifi after I upgraded to 7.0, this shouldn't happen, there is a good number of people reporting this issue with the 5x and 6p it seems there's a problem with the drivers and returning to MM doesn't solve it
