This seems to be the only place I can post.
Basically the title.
Here is some info to avoid some easy questions:
Rooted D3 (obviously)
5.6.890 (I think those were the numbers, I am sure it wasn't 5.7 something)
Using the Droid 3 bootstrapper. NOT safestrap, though in Hashcode's post, he said he updated it to be compatible with boostrap.
Flashed Steel Droid v3 about 2 weeks ago, week later flashed to the Bionic Blue theme.
Ran the "Safe bloat removal script (50+ apps) [UPDATED 9/1/2011]" script.
Ran the script to get my bloat back.
No problems until....
Tried to flash to CM7.1 Alpha using Droid 3 Bootstrapper
Bootloop.
tl;dr: How do I correctly install CM7.1?
you may just need to boot into andriod recovery and clear cache. i dont use bootstrap anymore, but its essentially the same. boot into recovery, format /system (under mounts and storage) then install CM7, factory reset (wipe data/cache) then boot her up. Safestrap is the way to go though
So I tried again, wiping my cache and /system, this time I ended up with a soft brick (Only thing appearing is the Motorola Dual Core screen). Clockwork Recovery doesn't appear on startup anymore.
How do I:
a) Unbrick and
b) Correctly install CM7.1?
Thanks to anyone who responds in advance.
EDIT: I should have read more closely, the order I performed the actions was:
1. Install CM7.1
2. Install Gapps
3. Format cache
4. Format /system.
5. Factory reset

Ya formatting /system after flashing removes the cm7 rom. Try
Format /system
Install cm7/gapps
Wipe data/cache
xt860, android 2.3.5, Monster rom

Thanks for that. Any idea on how to unsoftbrick though?
Also, the link in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255198
is dead.
if you formated /system after installing the rom, then you need to SBF. start the phone with m+pwr, use vol down to reach AP Fastboot, then use vol up to select. download RSD 5.5 and the sbf file. check out the RSD thread in the dev section. and you are on verizon, correct?
edit: dang i see what youre referring to. the 5.6.890 download isnt working. i have it, but i dont know i dont have an account to upload to. And on my 5meg pipe itll still take a few min lol
2ndedit: i cant upload. sorry i dont have a professional account and its 455MB.. check this out it works http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4370-sbf-droid-3-fastboot-files-55959-and-56890/

I'm following this guide, figured I'd just re root and install cwm again and restore my back up. Will that work?
lol yes youve got it. follow the instructions. also, do not freak out if after you SBF it still does not boot up. Even after the SBF (RSD will show rebooting) and you could bootloop on the animation. if that happens, boot into recovery using M+pwr, select android recovery, when you get the android with the !, use vol up and down and you'll get another menu, and clear cache. then you'll be ok
and also, dont use cwm, use hashcodes safestrap. read up on safestrap, and then you can flash without worrying about bricking

hi
i m not able to install paranoid (any version) on my galaxy note... but rest of the custom roms are working fine...
everytime i install paranoid rom, it gets struck at the boot samsung logo and i cant even access to cwm recovery..
then the only option left for me is to revert back to stock 2.3.6 via odin and then root
is there any developer or expert who can rectify the problem so that i may be able to install paranoid on my note

Can you provide more info, what kernel and rom are you using to flash PA?
Hi
I tried it from ics (crash v8.1, liquid black 3.2, criskelorom v9, fusion Tom 2.5, rocket Tom v10) ........ no result
I tried it from the gb 2.3.6 (stock).... no result
I used clockworkmod recovery... abyss kernel
Everytime the same problem hung on the boot logo... and no access to clockworkmod recovery....

Go back to gingerbread, root and install clockworkmod, put the pa ROM & gapps zip on your sdcard then go into recovery (cwm) factory wipe data 2-3 times, flash ROM then gapps next wipe cache 2-3 times, finally reboot and wait.

Do I need to install abyss kernel to format and wipe or the native 5.0.2.7 recovery is enough.. and is it safe to wipe cache, format factory reset in stock 2.3.6 by cwm recovery 5.0.2.7
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
It's safe to wipe using a gingerbread kernel in recovery which is exactly what abyss is, a gingerbread kernel. No need to use abyss if you're already on a gingerbread stock ROM.

i cant access recovery but can still access download mode....
even i cant understand where is the problem why paranoid is not working on my note.....confused
can i try installing paranoid without installing gapps..... will that work or not?
when you were on GB stock without rooting did you boot into recovery and wipe data, cache ?
( vol up + home + power ) buttons in combination together take you into recovery. you have to keep pressing till N7000 logo shows up, then u let go and then recovery appears
If you already know and done it then im sorry to repeat.
what method you followed to root GB ?

stock and all other custom roms are working
only problem when i try to install any damn version of paranoid
you must keep gapps ics ready for flashing with PA v0.4a,
keep both zip files on sd card
get into recovery, wipe as told before
install zip from sd card ( remember the name and keep looking till you find it ) choose zip file,, flash it,
then same thing with gapps , flash
do the wipes again
then reboot phone ( first boot takes time so be patient )
you can use the present recovery or flash abyss kernel - --go to advanced -- reboot recovery ...etc etc ( same proceedure)
if this doesnt work ill tell you a method using CM9 safe kernel tar ( give me some time)

i think its the kernel and recovery which gets erased during the installation of paranoid thats y it gets struck at boot logo

Format data
Format system
Format Cache

Hey!
So I have decided I can't wait any more and want to put the JB ROM on my device :victory:.
Currently I have Cocore 4.1 kernel + stock GB ROM.
I want to upgrade to the latest LQ4 from this thread.
What would be the right order to upgrade:
1) Install new kernel for JB (Does it matter if it has CWM or TWRP? Since the LQ4 on this thread is said to only be update-able with CWM, and I actually like TWRP better)
2) Enter recovery --> Full wipe / factory reset
3) Install ROM
Or
1) Enter recovery --> Full wipe / factory reset
2) Install ROM (remember I am currently using CoCore 4.1 for GB with TWRP)
3) Flash new Kernel for JB
If a full wipe / factory reset isn't needed, which wipes are needed?
Thanks again!

1. That thread is just for deodexing your JB ROM. It is not a ROM. There are just deodexed files from system/app and system/framework.
2. Non of above are the way of upgrading from GB to JB.
3. Use this.
4. Do factory reset after.
Thanks again shut_down! :good:

Oh, I thought the official JB ROM is already deodexed, no?
As for the wiping whats the difference between factory reset, cache wipe and dalvik wipe?

Every stock is odexed. You deodex it to get posibilities of using more modified stuff.
Factory reset wipes all your apps, that you installed with Play store (or any other way), and all your data. Making your phone like it was when you bought it. Cache and dalvik chache do not touch any data, but sometimes when you change something it is suggested that you do it (like change some system app or somethig like that).
So you better backup your installed apps with Titanium Backup, backup your phonebook and things like that. Before you do factory reset, that you can restore it on JB later.
Thanks!
By using ODIN to upgrade, does it also wipe my current kernel to the stock one?
Meaning I can later put TZ, CoCore or watever I want the usual DD flash way (after rooting off course)?

Yes, Odin and stock JB firmware will overwrite old 2.3.6. kernel, and install new 3.x.x. And you can install any JB custom kernel with DD later when you root.
Thanks again mate!

am i need flash it with other rom?
anyway i get some problem, i can open my recovery but when i press my power button it cannot select any of recovery menu. But i still can navigate wiht Volume button
u can open the recovey so u dont need to worry
firstly do a complete wipe of all user and system data
if u are on plilz recovery there is a option to do so in the wipe data factory reset option called "clean to install a new rom" do it
thenif u have a official jb 4.1.2 firmware flash it via odin if u want to go back to stock or there are many kk roms and customized 4.1.2 roms available here do a research and flash whatever u like

You currently have the stock recovery, not Philz.
Go into your current recovery and go to factory reset/data wipe (use the volume up and down keys), to select it use the power button. Once you have factory reseted your device, reboot.
If that doesn't fix it then do the following:
Download any recent Philz Kernel for JB from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Copy that to your external sd card (go into recovery and connect your Note to your PC or if that doesn't work, do it through a different phone or an microsd card reader). Flash that file in the stock recovery, reboot to recovery again. Once you have philz, perform a full wipe (you should have that option in factory reset/data wipe otherwise wipe /system /preload /data). Once that is done, reflash with Odin and then again: go to the stock recovery and perform a factory reset and reboot, now it should be working.
Hi,
i did the upgrade from 4.3 to android 4.4.2 KitKat based AOKP ROM
I did everything like: wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, Dalvik cache wiping. Installed this two zipp files:
aokp_mint_kitkat_nightly_2014-02-16.zip;
pa_gapps-stock-4.4.2-20140207-signed.zip
I did not this by CWM version 6.0.4.4 or TWRP 2.6.3.1 but I made by TWizz recovery.
After I choose resart system the phone does not turn on. When i press power it only one vibrates and nothing.
So is my telephone dead or I can somehow get back my old system.
I did backup by Twizz first.
Cany you help me?
