It seems after several days searching the net that I am the only person on earth with this phone, who wants to root anyway. Does anyone have custom recovery for this phone so I can root? Or ever the stock recovery because I flashed the gsm cwm by mistake and now can't get into recovery. Thanks

After reviewing all the helpful advice I've received over here at Xda (I'm being a smart ass) and lots of Google searches I've learned what I need is to flash an ruu for my phone. I've seen threads here where someone decided to be helpful and posted ruu downloads for the desire c gsm, but I'm cdma. Where can I get my ruu? I was told htcdev.com but all the is for my device are kernel source, is this what I need to get the ruu? I know everyone here is much better then me, and no doubt way cooler, but please don't let that stop you from just typing a few lines and helping me out. I promise, I will bow down and exalt the new gods of XDA DEV. Thanks.

What are you trying to do? Root the phone or return it to stock?

I was trying to root and flash cm my last two phones couldn't get cm so I've been looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about. That's why I bought this phone, because I read that there was cm for it. but now that I know there is no recovery avaliable I guess I'm going stock until one becomes avaliable or I can make one. I guess if I have a working ruu to restore my phone with if something goes wrong I could still root at least
I've downloaded all the dev tools and am tracking down reading / resources to aid in the learning process. Any suggestions? I'm experienced in HTML but that's it. Thank you for responding I'm glad to be here at XDA and I will have useful things to continue on the future if I'm allowed to learn and others are willing to point me in the right direction at least.

There are 4 custom recoveries. And a stock one in the untouched ROM ( I don't currently have the link to it)
Here are the three i found:
Touch recovery
CWMR
TWRP
If your problem is something else, please clarify as i am really slow xD
As to learning process, as ive said before, start off with just testing stuff. Then move on to what you want to do first, in my case it was a kernel that is neatly organized. For all i know you might want to develop apps or themes, thats your choice :3. Have fun and ask me further questions over skype or facebook in my details.

Does anyone know of a working cyanogenmod ROM for the vivid? On there site its not on the device list yet
Also on a side note, I have unlocked the bootloader and have perm root. Do I need S-off and if so how do I do it?
Be patient. It was just unlocked and developers are getting to work.
Soon there will be awesomeness coming to the development forum.

seriously? it got unlocked yesterday and you think there would already be a CM build?
the only way to get a working Cyanogenmod right now would be for you to build it, because it doesnt exist.
right now there is no S-Off yet
**EDIT**
dont mean to come off like a **** with this post, but a Cyanogenmod release literally doesnt happen overnight....and they wont support it until someone does the work of getting it built and working on the device.
Well since other carriers were unlocked before yesterday I didn't know if someone had already been working on it...
Also this is my first android so just a heads up for any other newbies when I used the HTC dev site to unlock the phone it resets the phone wiping your data

I chatted w/attn1 yesterday and he said if we'd get him a Vivid, he'd build CM7 for it.
Saw a page calling themselves htcvividforum.com that said they could put the inspire cm7 on the vivid, and pointed to this XDA thread for the Inspire 4G: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226584. I was wondering if anybody had tried that? I have my doubts, being it's a different phone and all.... maybe I am cross eyed and can't read.
The link to the page that claimed this:
www.htcvividforum.com/custom-roms/bbmod-rom-beta-v1-3-3-cm7-nightly-w-treats/msg71185/?
That site is pretty bogus. It's a clone of http://www.htcinspireforum.com, which, if you go to it, shows identical posts with "vivid" swapped for "inspire". I wouldn't try flashing an ace build to your Vivid.
the ACE and the HOLIDAY are not even close to having the same hardware.....i agree with kxhawkins, the site is bull****

I just got a thrill 4g cause my iPhone was messing up and was wanting to get better performance out of it, i know nothing about phones though! I downloaded a gameboy app and its talking about roms which i saw on the wiki here what they were but i don't know where to find them and what to do with them when i do.
sorry for the newb questions and thanks in advance for helping!
First off, welcome to the Android community!
Secondly, your question.
ROMs for a Gameboy application are (typically) illegally downloaded copies of games that you run through an emulator (the Gameboy application). ROMs in the phone world are custom versions of the Android operating system that are created by the community.
I can't/won't really help you with obtaining game ROMs but, if you would like to know more about custom Android software, stick around, ask questions and you might learn something new. Here's a nice little article explaining Android ROMs. http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/05/01/custom-roms-for-android-explained-and-why-you-want-them/
ok thanks, i didn't know that they would be illegal... i'll do some more reading and try to figure stuff out more.
Not a problem at all, if you have any questions, I'm sure anyone here would be glad to answer them.
ok so i found some roms but they didn't work... i'm guess i have to root it first?
Yes you have yo root and install cwm all that information is available in tge development section on this forum install and enjoy your phone the way it was meant to be

Wait do you just want gameboy roms? You dont need to root at all to do that. All you need is the gameboy emulator app, and then do a google search for what ever game you're looking for. (Ex. Pokemon red rom)

for right now yes... i had 2 of them but one ROM didn't show up when i turned on the gameboy and the other ROM showed up but it was just a black screen. I want to mod my phone to make it run better but i'm not sure i want to chance turning it into a $500 paperweight.
Well when you download a gameboy rom, you have to unzip it before you can use it. Its possible you just had a bad rom. There are dozens of different sites that have roms up. Some work some dont. Try a different one. As far as making the phone run better, you'd need to root, install clockwork, then flash a phone rom. Its all show how to do on the development forum. Just take you time and read everything first, its really pretty easy. Oh yeah one more thing remember phone roms dont unzip, gameboy Do unzip.

ok i'll check out that section, there was a question i had on a post over there but i can't remember what it is now, guess i need 10 posts before i can post there too so i couldn't ask it then. Will i lose 3D? i read somewhere that i would if i rooted my phone
You will only lose 3d on the cyanogen rom. Just rooting will do nothing to you phone, other than allow root access. All the thrill 2.2 roms have working 3d.
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
You won't loose 3D if you root your phone. You might loose 3D if you install a custom ROM. It depends on the custom ROM.
yeah i guess thats where my questioning is leading too, i don't exactly know what ROM is right for me. Basically i just want a phone that works, i keep losing GPS, internet and reception... is there something that helps with that? Also i've read that you can make it a WiFi hot spot with certain ROMs or is that just after rooting?
Again i apologize if this has been covered, theres a bunch of names or terms floating around here and it might as well be a foreign language to me...lol
I used the doomed rom by Urabewe. It was a great rom very fast, stable, and great battery life. Everything worked on it including 3d. I switched to the cm7 nighlys, but they dont have 3d. If you looking for a great stable rom i highly recommend the doomed rom. Btw you asked about wifi hotspot, im pretty sure every thrill rom on xda has that option included.

Those are both different ways to do the same thing. Did you root your phone? You need to do that before you try to install clockwork.

My advice is READ READ READ/SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH
I did that for weeks before I even bought my Nexus One and rooted it over 3 years ago
Even after all that time, I have already read over a thousand posts thru out the One Forum in preparation of buying the phone
Lot less headaches that way and better chance of not bricking your new/expensive phone--

You need custom recovery to flash the SU binaries to xbin. But, once you get root, you can reapply the stock recovery via fastboot, though I Dont know why you would, you would lose much control of recovering your phone after any mishaps. Though I suppose you could reflash custom recovery in that event. Though you'd have to wait til you were near adb/SDK.

Dont want to lose the ability of getting OTA updates- thats basically it.
i have been rooted over 3 years and always get them thru roms sooner--never took one
have seen people taking updates and getting messed up
Also the fact that custom ROMs keep updating very frequently and I have itchy fingers. Think I'm tired of that. Unless a serious bug is present in stock ROM that HTC is taking too long to fix or maybe when Viper releases their ROM for the One, I'm planning on sticking to stock.

To keep my phone on the latest software? I hear lots of people who have rooted are not seeing the upgrade and I dont wanna deal with custom ROMs
as folks have said, read a bunch. and follow directions very closely.
gaining root access to the phone isn't tough. how much time it takes also kinda depends on what you plan to do with root access.
- if your with root is to use the stock rom, and just gain access to rooted apps, and maybe get rid of some bloatware (again read which one's are safe to delete first!), then rooting won't take too much time.
- if you plan on trying new roms and kernels to try to ring every last drop of functionality and speed and battery life out of that chunk of hardware, then expect it to take some time. this path is voluntary. but it should be considered a lifestyle, not a solution.
Hi all, This is my first post so please be gentle!!
I have searched the forums but dont really know too much about what I need so please forgive me if im going over old ground.
Basically Im sick of waiting for the OTA 4.2.2 update of my HTC One from 3UK.:crying: As everyone else is getting their update 3UK have changed their tune numerous times about weather the update has been pulled, Is in testing, Is being rolled out or now low and behold its back in testing again. They never give a straight answer and after tweeting them someone else has reccomended changing my CID? to allow me to ge the update.
I have been reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317536 and I was wondering if this is indeed what I need to do. If I follow the instructions in this thread I understand it changes the CID on my phone, but how do I then go about getting the 4.2.2 update?
Where would I get it from and would that affect any future OTA updates. I dont want to root the phone as Im quite happy with Sense 5 I just want to be able to get the 4.2.2 update without having to wait for three to push it.
So basically can I use the procedure in the link above to change my CID. And after doing this where do I then get the update from. Do I then just check for updates??
Thanks in advance for any replies!

Chris.

OP I appreciate you're new but you could have found the answer to your question yourself without posting this. You won't get any carrier updates from 3 until 3 release them, even if you have superbloodyunicornCID, isn't that obvious? All superCID does is allow you to bypass regional ROM restrictions. The only way you're going to get 4.2.2 before three release it is by unlocking your bootloader and flashing a stock 4.2.2 ROM. All you'll probably do messing about with your CID is brick your phone, and then you'll have to spam the forums more.

Hi. You will have to change your CID and whilst doing anything of this nature carries a risk, it's a very low one.
I too was stock brand with 3. Follow one of the many video guides to use revone and get s-off as suggested above. Then download the stock wwe (world wide English) RUU and follow the on-screen instructions. The one I used was a standard 1.28 version. Again, use one of the great guides on here to download adb and change your CID to htc__001. Bear in mind there are 2 underscores there. You're phone will then see a small update and then again will recognise the 4.2.2 update.
That's if you want everything official. Mike1986 has a great guide on all this as does vomer in the android development thread.
If you want to run a Rom using 4.2.2 then it's just as simple, I personally was using mike1986's android revolution.
It all sounds daunting but take your time and follow the guides and you will be fine. It's very difficult to brick these phones.
Always make a nandroid backup before doing anything just in case.

Hey guys
Im sure I'm not the only one who's thinking this but I really wish I purchased the original mini. The reason for this is the only ROM at the moment for this device is CyanogenMod and nobody seems to be making one. Anybody else feel this way?
Also just in case are you involved or do you know anyone making ROMs for this phone?
Thank God that we have at least cm.... I agree with you, and since I have this phone from July, I have been asking for roms since the first day, but this device isn't so popular yet... Vi there are kernels and mods, better than nothing. This forum sometimes is dead for weeks, I wouldn't be surprised that there is no interest in development

Absolutely.... Preferably lollipop xD
@Will972 is one of the biggest contributors, as he gave us stock roms for every update
A sense rom based on lolipop will be planed soon on 2015 .. we must first have a kernel dev for a possibility to have it earlier but we don't have it.
The only thing we can have is a custom rom with 4.4.2 base
I just miss xposed since there is no idiot rooting guide.
I will make a rom with some stuff like xposed and sense 6.0 toolbox and maybe harman kardon mod instead of boomsound

I just miss xposed since there is no idiot rooting guide.

I know rooting a HTC is not as easy as rooting a Samsung but still it is not hard. The most annoying part is unlocking the bootloader, but even this is easy, but killing time. Once this is done, you need 2 files: twrp recovery
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53821894)
and supersu
(https://mega.co.nz/#!ShE0gQgS!2C3GycaXd3M5UZkBpmHz-m302EPD2OTwe0OOAOnqI20).
Both can be found on many threads here.
Follow my TUT (it is pretty old, but sould still work):

HI indy140
You are not the only one thinking this, read my Statement(s) under Johann A. Sutter in this Forum!
I have made the same experience, for some reason or another it is obviously, that it is not so interesting (or to complicated) for developers to keep them busy with this device!
Good Luck, I'm keeping myself busy, to buy another one, looking before, if there are already valuable possibilities, to be my own Boss about my property.
