[Q] Ordered LG Optimus 4X HD - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi guys, I ve just ordered an LG Optimus 4X HD, Hope I did a good choice, cause I m quite worried now, reading many threads about lagging issues mostly users who have updated the phone to Jelly Bean.
What should I do when I receive the phone to have the best performance on it? Is it worth the hassle to update to Jelly Bean? Or should I keep it running on ICS?
I m almost new to smart phones. I m using this phone for daily usage, browsing the internet and playing some games.
Thanks

You made good choice, not great. JB sucks energy faster than ICS. Games lag less in JB. Best choice would have been S3. For daily use JB is good but CM RC2 may give better performance if you don't mind to lose warranty, though I don't think it is a good idea. Go with stock JB.
Don't make more than one thread for same reason. I think you are new to Xda. You should have modified the old thread to question thread.

The samsung S3 was 100eu more. I dont have any warranty on my smart phone. And from what I ve read, with Jelly Bean the phone lags a lot even if you do factory reset after the update, should i keep it with ICS or there s a better solution?
thanks

Ebay is a popular site, are you sure you don't have warranty? Where is the link? Why don't you ask local customer care about it too? Warranty is more important. If you really don't care about warranty, go for cyanogenmod rc2.

With my personal experiences I prefer LGFlashTool.
Install kdz via LGFlashTool->Root->Install SuperSu with SuperSu pro->Integrate SuperSu as system app (it will replace Superuser with SuperSu. SuperSu works best)->Install titanium backup pro->Disable apps you don't use and MLT too.
Remember you can clean install kdz with LGFlashTool or kdz update to recover warranty.
Wish you good luck.

From where do I get lgflashtool?

the s3 isn't that much better.
only thing is that it doesn't heat so much.
with a costum kernel everything is very smooth(iodaks kernel on PAC Rom) but you will loose warranty as it was said above. Stock JB sucks much battery if you don't eraese LG software, disable mlt and freeze some apps. But it's smoother. Its your decision. I personally liked JB more.

Search xda about kdz update. You will find a step by step method with images. In that thread you will find a single zip. It contains LGFlashTool.

How much on ebay?

To disable MLT dial 3485#*880#(I'm not 100% sure but I think there is a thread somewhere in General Section) go to the tab MLT and disable it. Then reboot

[Q] help me to buy p990

hew dudes i am planning to buy this phone ie optimus 2x, and to sell my hd7 for the reason that its wp7. and nothing else. i found reviews and benchmark scores making 2x some what near to samsung s2. and that too in a low cost... i think this phone suite me.
so here are my doubts..
1) does this phone need to be s-off(changing/unlocking boot loader in order to flash recovery in htc phones) in order to flash a recovery? and if its so, is it easy on a non network locked( generic gsm) phone?
2) can i get any honeycomb rom for the phone, is it possible to load ics to it in future?
3) what about cm7 and miui support for 2x, ie is it in an active state like those of htc phones( i mean is it frequently updated)
4) what about the camera quality, is it good enough for hd videos and 8mp snaps?
5) what about audio quality from headsets?
6) how far can i oc the processor and gpu with out a crash?
7) is there any official gb updates out there?
pls ans me for my doubts, its my first lg phone, and i dont want to be disappionted. as i am selling my hd7 for this phone, i need a phone which is smarter than hd7. so you people should help me.

No, it's extremely easy to install CWM on the phone. No special skills required.

No, and yes. No, because honeycomb is a tablet-specific android-version. ICS will probably be released by LG at some point, but it is no certainty. What IS certain is that CM9 (ICS) will come for the P990.

That is device-specific. Most phones seem to reach 1.4 without any trouble, some can go as high as 1.65. It's a luck-of-the-draw thing. There aren't many kernels around which overclock the GPU, those that do set it at 350-365Mhz, default is at 300.

It will, depending on local consumer laws, void the warranty. (Italian courts say it does not, for instance.)
Nobody can know for sure whether LG can find out or not, but the assumption is that they can't.
I base that on the simple fact that nobody, ever, has posted a post saying that "Hey, I restored a stock ROM, and LG still found out I had rooted before."
Nobody has said anything of the sort, so I'd say it is 99% certain they won't find out. But you never know. (The Samsung Galaxy S2, for instance, has a counter for how many times you've installed custom ROMs on it ;-))
I don't want to be too paranoid (i'm not as I run custom ROM) but you could imagine a situation where restoring stock ROM is impossible lol...

[Q] Need a better unrooted ROM

HI Friends,
I was using custom roms before, but now i have reverted back to LG ROM v20G(india) android 2.3.4.
Since, i was not able to install some applications(for my office email and communicator) due to rooted device error, so i reverted back to LG ROM.
But after installing few applications my mobile became very slow, every time i have to clean RAM using task manager.
Is there a better ROM(unrooted ROM) suggestion ?
Thanks in advance.

HI N00BY0815, Thanks for yor reply.
Earlier i was using zeus 7.03 ROM and there i was able to install the zenprise application but it was not able to configure properly and used to get error like "This device is rooted" something like that. Bcz of this i was unable to configure the MS Exchange email and Microsoft Lync 2010 apps(bcz they are dependent on zenprise to get my enterprise server details).
Now i have reverted to LG stock ROM v20G and able to configure everything successfully and all are working.
But my mobile becoming damn slow, and it is showing only 23 mb RAM is free. :crying:

Hmm maybe you could still use Zeus ROM, but with a minor change in kernel, that is to change
ro.secure=0 to ro.secure=1 in ramdisk. This will pretend, the cell is still unrooted and thus everything should install just fine. Though you might get some problems with some apps, that need root.
Can some1 upload a flashable zip of this, since I dont really have time currently? Just decompile the boot.img with dsixda's android kitchen, change that line and recompile it. Flash and your done

Did you already try a rooted stock ROM, which has to be flashed via Smartflash? It's quite simple, since there also is a video guide (check my how to, post #3 includes the link to the thread with the video). Then you ll have root, but kernel will still state ro.secure=1. So you can almost do everything you want, but the phone will still think, it's still unrooted. Just pick the same version as you already have in kdz format (e.g. v20n, v20O, v20s,...) extract it with the tool mentioned, inject cwm, flash superuser.apk, dont wipe anything and you ll have root and all your data still. If it still detects the phone as rooted then, you ll have to go back to stock and reinstall everything, but it's still worth a try Then you can uninstall all LG crap apps and will have more free ram. Or you wait for anyone to provide an unrooted ROM with all unnecessary apps removed and maybe some tweaks enabled

It will probably still be recognized as rooted, because the kernel will still state: ro.secure=0, which equals a rooted device. Of course, I dont really know, how this app detects, if the phone is rooted. It might also be the superuser.apk, but I dont really think so...

[Q] Request upload new v10h firmware link

The external site is down? Or something. I cant get into that site anymore.
After few days dwelling in the forum, I wanna try going back to v10h euro open firmware.
Since so far I heard is the most battery friendly + heat efficient firmware available. Or is there any better? My local ones are up to v10e only.
(everything should work even if I'm in Asia right?)
Please upload a new working link(preferably d-host because its running max speed, or anything except our friendly average file hosting sites that limits download speed and stuff)
Many thanks!
Do tell me if there is any better firmware or solution. Thanks!

If you are using any other version like CM or V20a you need LG Flash Tool to roll back to ICS then update it with LG Official Tool to get back on JB
Here is the link for that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179126 .......the bootloader locked or unlocked does'nt effect the
downgrade. I personally did it 2 time from CM to ICS but now I have
backed up the JB without Installing any Apps, just rooted and Installed CWM with ROM Manager and took backup now I can easily switch form CM
or from any other ROM to Stock in 10 minutes. But I love Stable CM. Most of the time my Battery usage is 40 Hours round about.
Have fun.

In ICS the bootloader remais locked, only on JB is unlocked.
Use "UpTestEX_mod2_marwin" to decrypt the .kdz.
Use LGFlash Tool to flash. To change from JB to ICS is the only way.

Basebands Reviews

I made this thread so users who tested basebands to provide some useful reviews (battery backup, performance, bloatware, etc) for every user who want to know which baseband, new or old, has what he`s looking for or the baseband just came up and it`s new and he wants to know about it.
I tested MBM-XXLQI from Macedonia recently and all I have to say it brings nothing new about battery backup on the contrary it seems worse than DDULP8 from India or XXLQG-ITV from Italy, and in addition it has a lot more bloatware too.
I am going to test the new VSLPA from Argentina(moviestar) to see what it brings new as it has the latest build date and changelist, and I`ll provide a review in a day or two. You are free to do the same as we may have different opinions.
I am using VSLPA from Argentina from 1 day now and I have to say it provides the best battery backup till now, only 1% consumed over the night.
About performance, it`s pretty much like the other firmwares, tough i notice that lag is slightly reduced in this one or it may be placebo effect, don`t know yet.
Go try it yourself and report back to see if you have a different opinion from mine
I take my words back VSLPA is the best build by samsung for our device since they released Jb for us. I rooted, flashed cocore8.2, removed some bloats, instaled no-frills, set pegasusq+sio, powersave and I drained the battery till it shut down. After I let it charge full I powered it up and I couldnt believe my eyes how fast it was and still is, this build is LAG FREE, the dial pad opens in instant just like cyanogenmod. At first I tought that maybe it's just an one time event but not it still does that and is insanely fast, stable, smooth maybe then most of custom too (no offense to any dev). I know it is hard to believe but please try it for yourself and you'll be surprised.
I'll provide the list of bloats removed when I have time if it is of any use

I did. I tried it after a reboot too and I also it is ok with heaving gaming too. I tried asphalt 8 with interactive+sio and with powersaving and everything was smooth.
If you don't believe me give it a go and try it yourself

This is as if you were explaining you saw a ghost.
Are you sure about this? Cause I heard similar things for previous FWs before, even though they all lagged like hell.
And 7 hours ago you were saying the opposite, how's that possible? What exactly fixed it, when it was the same when you first tried it?
Anyways I'm on GB now, got burned once and now I want to be sure if it's really lag free before I upgrade.
in sammobile, some of the firmwares are made for some particular carriers. Is it safe to flash that carrier basrd firmwires??

If your device is network free(meaning that another carrier sym is working) you can flash any firmware you want for our device with odin. Juat download it from samsung-updates, unrar it, put the tar file in pda section of odin and hi start.

@TheBeast I told you all the steps I have made. I don't think it's so hard so you can't flash it yourself

Upgrading isn't hard. Downgrading is a pain in the ass.

First of all GB and JB are different in every aspect so you can`t compare one to the other. First time it was just after I flashed it then I did all the things I said ( root, flash cocore kernel, changed governors and I/O etc. ) and after that i used it till it shut down and then while it was turned off I let it full charge, after that i booted into recovery wiped cache and dalvik cache and reboot and that was all.
But you should never expect that JB to be like GB.
If you don`t like stock i suggest you to upgrade from gb to jb then flash CM 10.1 from Team Canjica or if you want stock based Roms try Harshjelly or SamiOS.
Before you do all the things read some guide about how to flash with odin, how to root jb shaan`s guide and some more if needed.
If you do some research before you should not have problems

Why would you want to downgrade? First read guide about Odin and then go and read Harshjelly thread first then flash his rom and from there on should be easier to learn about governors,I/O schedulers, kernel etc. After you think you have a good knowledge base and you`re still not happy with you`re android you can move on to CyanogenMod 10.1 of Team Canjica(19.10 nightly is the most stable version).

Thanks, but been there, done that. All I'm saying is that I doubt it's lag free, I did try various firmwares, kernels and stuff but 5 sec delay when opening apps and lag in games, videos, UI is so bad that it's unbearable. That's why I had to downgrade, which is a much complicated process which frankly I don't want to repeat. That's why I want to make sure the new firmware is lag and delay free before I upgrade again.
And I'm pretty sure JB isn't supposed to be that bad, despite the fact that S Advance isn't much of a phone.

In cyanogenmod you wont encounter any kind of lag. So you can flash VSLPA via odin then flash cwm temporary make a backup then root it play with it a day or two and see how it goes and if you dont like it restore from backup then flash cyanogendmod 10.1 and i guarantee that you wont encounter any kind of lag there.
And btw id you want to thank me for any help just hit Thanks button and I`ll know

I know it is hard to believe but please try it for yourself and you'll be surprised.

thanks for your detail review! will flash it. But i have a question here, if i have flash VSLPA stock ROM, then i flash a custom ROM built on DDLUP, will that custom ROM run on VSLPA baseband?

[Q] Should I install Android 5

The net always talks about how to Install Android 5 but I wonder whether it would be a good idea to install it in the first place.
Will I get better performance and a better phone? What about app compatibility? I just want a phone with the least bugs and problems.
Thanks

I'd say yes. Try it and see for yourself so you get your own opinion and not only base on what other people say. You can always go back.
I did the upgrade 2 weeks ago. It's worth it. The only compatibility issue i had was with Dungeon Hunter 5. It stopped working but it was probably a good idea to get rid of it anyway. (More slot machine than anything). Other than that, I'm loving it.

Yes, you just need to flash a Kitkat file from here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
yes
least bug and problems, 4.4.4 is the winner.
I had 5.0 on other devices and it was a joy to come back to 4.4.4 and have a rock steady experience with insane battery life.
yes you can flash back, but like the UK version, I found no online files to do so. and I can make my own, but sod it. I know what 5.0 is and I wasnt impressed at all.
Updated yesterday, performance is the same if not better, battery is the same. You should try
I think I'll play it safe and give it some time to be sure before I update. I don't have the time or the knowledge to flash back to 4.4.4. Thanks everyone!

It's easy to flash back 4.4.4, however I updated yesterday and from my opinion it is not worth it at all, the interface is more complicated, there are bugs like a memory leak on startup which make it take age to load, xposed do not work well (I had a bootloop, had to reflash the system partition). I think I am going back to KK soon ?
