im gonna take my thrill back today and get a new one! I am having trouble with the battery as many people are but I dont know if it is worse than others. I unhooked it a few minutes ago and it went from 99 percent down to 90 in about 3-4 minutes and down to 80 in another 10 minutes and im not even sure what is running in the background because I thought I had an app killer installed. anyway the other problem is that I cannot get an internet connection at all unless I am on wifi. I have unlimited data and should be able to use programs like facebook even at the university but I cannot. Does anyone think I am doing the right thing by returning the phone? sorry about the long rant
Sounds like you have a bad battery. When I first got my Nexus S I had the same problem replaced that battery through att and it has been fine ever since. Also I have noticed that some task killers cant remember witch ones in specific hurt battery life. I would take it back for a new one may as well replace the whole device if you can.

The data thing definitely sounds like a bug. The battery on the other hand is normal on some new Thrills. After a week or so it should settle in and battery life gets better over time.

Yeah, if you first got the phone it takes a few cycles before battery starts to improve. But it seems pretty bad, i would return it since you have the oppurtunity.

Thank you for the replies, I have had this phone for about 3 weeks and I keep it plugged in at night through usb but I also have to connect it for a few hours in the daytime as well. I havent had a chance to return it but I may do so today although the wifi issue seems to be working now. maybe the At&t Network was down?

A note on the battery issue? What's the signal strength like where you live? The data signal in my house is so bad that if I forget to turn wifi on after getting home from work my battery will drain close to 40% over night. My wife's Captivate does the same thing. If the signal is weak the phone will constantly poll for a stronger signal.
All that aside I would definitely still take advantage and seek a replacement while its free. If you still have issues atleadt you'll know its something correctable and not the phone.

I just got an LG Optimus 2x from Wind and after *thwip*-ing the screen left and right for several hours, it came to my attention that smartphones can do a lot more than simply sliding the screen horizontally. They can do it vertically too. So after several more hours of that and 11 minutes of porn later, I decided I wanted to root this thing. Burying it in soil and sprinkling water on it didn't work for some reason so I questioned the almighty Google - it led me here.
My phone has Froyo 2.2 (I think?) and I want to gain root permissions and upgrade to CM7. At least that's what I was told on Youtube, dude named analcobra said I want CM7 and who am I to question a guy named analcobra?
Any help is appreciated, I'll post a pic of my tits in return.
well first off welcome to xda, secondly all the info you need is right here just use the search fucntion, people dont like it when you dont use it lol,
i wish i could help you root your phone etc, but i have only just got the o2x myself , did have previous phones but each phone has a different way of getting root etc,
Just download superoneclick, follow instructions, root, download rom manager off android market to flash a recovery image, download cm7 to the root of your sdcard, reboot into recovery and flash cm7 the end, tits please?

Dude, you're funny.
Congrats to both of you for your new toys and welcome to XDA.
My personal recommendation, is to read around, stay at stock for a week. Root it maybe, stay for another week or 2, before choosing the ROM that you want to try first.
Staying on stock with all LG crapware and stuff will allow you to:
1) Know if there are any hardware issues your phone might have which should prompt you to return it to the store.
2) Allow you to appreciate rooting and custom ROMs better.
I also recommend lurking on the Android development threads and back reading maybe 5 pages of the more active threads. That way, you'll know what the pros and cons of each ROM is. And you'll know what you'll get yourself into after flashing. (So you don't cry out that you don't have FM radio when you just flashed an ICS ROM.)
My immediate recommendations for 1st time CyanogenMod flashers would be Temasek's CM7 of course. As it is a very active thread, and support is definitely abundant.
Anyway, adjust your LCD brightness, and prepare to read stuff.
Above all, have fun.

All the folks are right above, proceed accordingly.
However, keep in mind that your device is not an O2X(P990) but a G2X(P999), so to prevent yourself from some hassle(bricking your phone, etc.), check the T-Mobile G2X thread.

Thanks, probably would have missed that.
Also, what's with the battery on this thing? I switched my phone off last night (at 62%) and when I turned it on this morning, it was at 25%. Is it supposed to lose that much power even while it's turned off, or do I just have a faulty device?[/color]
Damn, that's bad. Is it a new phone? I only lose 3-4 percent a night when it's not even turned off (just the screen). But I can imagine it's the fault of the original LG ****ware, I had to install it a week ago because I bricked my phone, and after 2 minutes of the CLEAN install it was already lagging heavily.

How new is your phone? You might just need to drain the batt, then charge it to full.
If it still happens, something's wrong with your phone. Take it back to the shop.
Stock froyo roms only use 1% of battery on idle. (2g network use only. No wifi or gps.)

The phone's brand new, I got it like two days ago. The battery was already really low when I got it so I let it die and then charged it back up to like 90% before unplugging it. I'll drain it, charge it again, and then see how things go before returning it I guess. It lost 1% (with the screen turned) off in the last 12 minutes. D:
I don't have a data plan on this (aside from the free 100mb that comes with Wind25) so I had Wind disable the data on it. I also turned off the wifi before turning the phone off last night because I thought it'd save power. Would that have anything to do with it or is my inner noob showing?

Yes. Turning off wifi if you're not going to use it would help.
Having an enabled wifi either:
1) Keeps searching for networks that it can connect to
2) Once connected, will background sync/update certain apps. (i.e. Google Play)
I just noticed that if I do things that are supposed to conserve battery power, they use up more. Switching to 2g only, turning off wifi, etc. I lost 5% in one hour doing that, but when I turned everything back on, I only lost 1% in one hour.
In any case, the battery seems to be doing a little better than yesterday, maybe I just have to drain/charge it a few more times to sort it out? Has anyone else ever had similar problems before?
Gavin, I'm a new smart phone user too and have the same phone from windmobile and the first thing I noticed about the phone was how quickly the battery can drain. I thought it was defective or something but no, that's how it is. Mine would be dead from a full charge in less than 14 hours and that's without any usage, which is shocking and made me consider cancelling my plan. I do have data running however. Anyway, there are a bunch of apps available that can preserve the battery life. I've tried 3 or 4 and the last one (just found it 2 days ago from the Play Store) is the best by far. It's called "battery defender". I fully charged my phone yesterday and after a whole day (24 hrs) I checked the battery status and it showed 90% left (the app adds a battery icon that shows % left). Pretty damn good for a phone that used to be dead in less than 14 hours. I'm extremely happy. You can also try "juice defender" (the first app I tried) but that will probably give you 2 1/2 days on a full charge, which isn't bad.
BTW, draining and charging the batt won't do much if anything at all and in fact it ISN'T recommended that you let it drain below 20%.
Check out those apps and download one. They're free and they DO work. Also, get yourself a car batt charger too and maybe an extra battery.

No need to repeat cycling the battery. You can maybe do it once every 2 months and that's plenty for Lithium Ions.
Electroman is right. Optimum charging cycles go rom discharging only to 20%, then charging back up to 80%. And repeat.
About your battery being worse when you actually disabled your network stuff. I'm thinking you have apps or widgets that are configured to update every so often. And with the network out, they keep on refreshing themselves.
I personally didn't see huge gains from Juice Defender, but those batt saving apps are definitely worth a try.
Wonder if wind is putting any dodgy apps on the phone that use battery up?

Cuz the voltage gets high and reduces the life of the battery. Sort of an increase in MAH at the risk of overcharging and slowly killing the battery. 20-80% is ideal but **** that!

Hello,
I've recently started having a strange issue with my Galaxy Note. The screen starts to ranomly flicker like crazy and then the device turns off. When I restart the phone it shows that I have 1% battery... which is not true because if left alone the phone starts to "magically" charge on its own over the course of the next 15-30 minutes. I've read that the flickering screen occurs when the battery is low and the screen tries to maintain its brightness, but this isn't my case as i've had this happen even at 80% battery charge.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? I've already tried restoring to factory settings to no avail.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance !
Yep, I experienced this last month. I had my galaxy note for just over one year when I started to have this problem.
Sent it back to Samsung and they fixed it free under the two year warranty (EU law). It seems to be an issue they are aware of. My battery now lasts a couple days and everything is back to normal. 4 day turn around for the repair straight to my door.
Give Samsung customer service a call A.S.A.P.
Good luck!

The S2??? I would prefer the S3 or Note 2. Jelly bean will probably be the last update for the S2 and possibly the N7000!
Make sure when you call the service department that you explain the issue as you have here on the forum... Don't say that you think the battery is gone... As with my repair it wasn't the battery... They said they changed a chip set or something like that.... Plus even if it is the battery, they are more likely to just replace it for free if you plead ignorance!
P.S. The best way to say thanks is to use the "thanks" button next to my post!

Hm, this is what is now happening to me as well ... Not cool, will see, whether it lasts, or it was just temporary ..., as it looks to me it happens when I leave Wifi switched on.

New battery. Why don't you read what is written before?
I got my Nexus 4 RMA'd. I was fairly satisfied with my original Nexus 4's battery, it lasted a day solid, with some change. I still tried my best to squeeze more battery out of it, cause I didn't want to cut it so close. Anyway, after I RMA'd it and got my new model (with the little plastic feet) I noticed a HUGE difference in battery life. I'm talkin' 50-70% more battery life! I'm running the same franco kernel, and having even underclocked or undervolted, and also using Juice Defender Plus (Also had that on my previous N4). Anyway, the difference is night and day, so I'm certain they improved the battery in the newer N4's. Also I held my friends N4 that he bought the same time I got my first one, and mine feels significantly denser. Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know, if you're not happy with your battery life, maybe you should consider getting it RMA'd and if you were holding out from buying a N4 because of the battery life, this might make the difference.
Useless,i cant see SOT screenshot ?
Also everybody who use franco satissfied about battry life,4-5 hours SOT..

I just went about 40 hours on one charge, I charged it last night though, so I'll see how long it lasts and post a screenshot.
I have a 301k (got in feb)
Watching about 4 hours of hd video (LoTR with lowest brightness), half hour of youtube and a couple hours of reddit and texting
and at the end of the day I have 20% battery life. I can last another day with that, as long as I dont wifi or youtube too much.
Also, Greenify is a really good app.

All i want to say is that if you flashed franco kernel you get 4-5 hours SOT and on moderate use 20-22 hours work time,it doenst matter what is your model 301k,302k or newer..
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I had franco kernel on my previous N4 (not sure what xxxK version this one is) and have seen a MASSIVE improvement in battery life with this newer one, BEFORE trying to implement battery saving techniques. I'm convinced by that and the weight difference that the battery has been improved.
When you say consider getting in RMA'd, how would I do that? Doesn't there have to be some fault with it - the only fault I think I have is the rattling back?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I can relate to this, my friend got a new n4 and i was on 79% batter with 23 mins screen on time and he was on 93% with half hour.. its a joke
With the same hardware and software, the only way to improve the battery life, is to increase the battery capacity (mAh). So today, the only way is to increase battery size.

Yeah I'm trying to think of a reason to get an rma. Do you think rattling back is enough?

I genuinely understand if someone needs a repair or got a defective device, but some on here clearly are abusing the system.
This is probably related to the 4.2.2 issue I saw in another thread
Basically people were getting better battery life by flashing the stock 4.2.2 image and then reflashing their custom kernels/ROMs
Since the new Nexus 4 came with 4.2.2 on it, it probably bypassed having to do those steps. I doubt the battery is different at all..
LOL with all the RMAs I think google is going to put up a new page for refurbished nexus 4 models.
Hopefully they learn from it and not f*** up the next nexus launch, Jesus Christ this phone has been nothing but a disaster

Just to let everyone know I haven't ever done an rma in my life, and I have bought a nexus 7, 10, and now 4. But if a product is significantly better less than one month after I buy it I would like to enjoy that.
Sent from my Nexus 4 on Solavei network!
It's probably just placebo effect. Unless we have some hard evidence ("weight" and "feel" won't cut it) we can only assume the battery is the same. At the most, it might have something to do with heat dissipation and containment regarding battery current flow in the newer models.

Nothing is "significantly better". All these RMA's make it sound like everyone on this forum has some severe form of OCD. A few people's non-scientific observations don't make anything better or worse. Just live with what you have, it's not like you're missing out on anything. If there was a "significant" improvement, Google would have just incorporated everything into the Nexus 5 and released that instead.
I got a 303k. Noticed exceptional battery even while I'm stock rooted. I use it semi heavily so the battery is surprising. I get a full day out of it unlike on my s3.

If my phone can last me from the time I take it off the charger in the morning to the time I put it back on when I go to bed, which it usually does, I'm content. And that's with me messing with it all day, and at least 6 hours of streaming music.
I can get a day and a half out of mine. That being said the half day part doesn't do me a lick of good so he gets charged every night regardless.

Check to make sure you're not running any hungry background tasks.
This is the first phone I've had since the existence of 4G LTE that I haven't had to put on the charger every single night. I'm thrilled with the battery life on this phone.

I didnt mean to come off as a nay sayer at all...I can prolly get 3 days if i didnt use the phone is all. Would love to see her history on app usage though....maybe they put some juiced up uber battery in hers lol.
0004 just shows which round of hardware the phone was built on. Mine as well as most should say 0004.
Terrible signal running kingdoms of Camelot at work. Plus music all day has me sitting at 8 hours haha. 8% currently.

YAY! Screenshots!
Here you go!
3 days is far from the norm, and the battery monitor is EASILY fooled, all it takes is a partial charge. My girlfriend's mom just got the galaxy the other day and I went over to help her with her car BT, took a quick glance at the battery monitor for kicks and it said she was on something absurd like 5 days and I knew something was off. Turns out she didn't charge her phone at night, just sporadically during the day, and it had never charged to 100%.
I'm getting around 14 hours until I hit 20%, and this is with HEAVY usage...taking pictures, using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blinkfeed, playing games, etc, all on 4G. So the battery life IS pretty nice.
good here

I charge my phone every night so I don't know exactly how long it'll go, but I think I've only ever dropped below 50% once, and that was the first day, and HTC Connect was acting all screwy. Had used over 60% in the monitor. Love it!
