HTC One from Orange - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
I have a question regarding new Htc One from Orange.
In my country - Slovakia, its impossible to get rhis phone. Nobody has it, except mentioned operator.
Are phones from Orange blocked ? Do they have custom series number.
I have read/heard rumours that phnes from operator have custom serie number and they tend to get sw updates much later than phones from market.
Is this true ?
Sorry, if this was answered before, but i coudlnt find answer anywhere.
Thanks

Yes, branded phone receive OTA and ETA update much later then nobrand phone.
For example, stock no brand phone have 1.29.401.12, O2 branded phone have 1.29.209.xx and at today no OTA updates...
However, they don't have a custom serial number, but a custom CID

Thanks, thats what i wanted to hear (read).
Actually didnt want to hear :-\

Nexus One International?

Is there any difference between my buying a phone direct from Google (while I still can) and getting it sent to the UK and buying from someone in the UK?
Are the US & European handsets any different?

All Nexus One where bought from Google. The person you are buying it from bought it from Google.
But, presumably, the various network carriers may well have tweaked the rom. I guess that the only way to be sure of getting a pure vanilla phone is direct from Google? In which case time is running out...

i got mine from ebay. (uk) and its originally from america with a uk plug. No problems what so ever
Both versions of the Nexus are Vanilla UI. Unless the person you're buying it from rooted the phone and flashed a custom ROM. The question should be, is if both versions have GSM frequency band compatible with the network you're on right now.

Lol not making sense to me bro. But yah I think you're better off buying it directly from Google.

If the Nexus you get from someone in the UK was bought from Vodafone, then it has a later Eclair build than the ones bought direct from Google, either EPF21b or EPF30 (EPF30 fixes the MMS resizing issue). Although it isn't Vodafone branded, it is different as it has some changes to make it more suitable on European networks I believe.
However, these phones will recieve their updates a bit later than ones bought direct from Google, as new builds need to be tested and approved by Vodafone before they allow Google to send them OTA (hence no Froyo OTA yet). Although, you can of course unlock the bootloader a flash a Stock US rom to get the latest updates or any rom you like.

2.3 OTA update on my IS?

The official 2.3.3 OTA update has been out for a while. Why my IS still haven't got the update notification? When I went to the setting and checked for update, it always says "your phone is up to date". My IS is running 2.2 and unlocked.
I've got the same issue. I wrote an email to HTC Support asking them whether it's a region based problem or something else. I'm using an unlocked Singapore-bought Incredible S, brand: htc_asia_wwe. I'm hoping they reply soon. It's annoying 'cause I live in europe and most of the people over here have the update already. Is there a way to migrate to an european brand?
If your phone is branded, it can take longer before you get the update, because your "brander" (your phone company) needs to make their costum apps ready for the update.
My phone (not branded) is updatet, but my wifes phone (branded) is not.
Kind regards
Jmich
Ok, next question then. How do I de-brand it? My phone is S-On (I checked today). I can't seem to find any other way than XTC Clips. Should I just wait for the OTA update to come to the damn Singapore carrier?
Tried internet pass-through method. It never worked.

You need to create a Gold Card in order to do this with S-On. Search the forum and you will find a lot posts about how to do it.

Please let me know how they respond your email.
One more thing, how do you get the brand "htc_asia_wwe"? My phone is unlocked and I could not find such info in my IS's setting.

htc_asia_wwe is identifying the region the rom is made for. It's not a brand.

Emailed HTC and got this:
Thank you for contacting HTC
regarding your issue,
the andriod 2.3 software has been released for the htc incredible s, for unbranded devices.
more information linked below:
http://www.htc.com/uk/support.aspx link loads to 'The new Build number after the update will be 2.12.405.7'
They don't mention countries!
The address you linked to has 'UK' in it. The site is regonalised, if you go to your region you will most likely find that entry missing

I am using an unlocked IS with Orange UK, but have not received the update, is that normal? Any one with Orange UK got the update?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Branded IS (orange, rogers etc) will receive updates only when the 'branders' or carriers release the same.
Regarding the issue of the unlocked IS, with the Asia firmware being used in UK, it is possible that the system is recognizing updates for that region.
In all probability, Asia has not received the GB update yet.
So your options are:
1) wait for the release to be complete all across the world. When asia receives the update, so should your phone.
or
2) unbrand the phone, load a WWE rom and you should be able to update.
this, as indicated is available in a lot of posts in this forum
Sorry I did not make myself quite clear, I am using an unbranded and unlocked IS, just put an Orange SIM in it...
Also, this is an UK version bought from carphone warehouse...

Anyone on using a phone bought from carphone warehouse got the update yet...I have been pressing that update button like 200 times....
Same problem here on unlocked IS from CPW, this time using Vodafone SIM.
Checking for updates more than I do new email....

Strange, I got the UK update on Saturday afternoon, though it won't install as I have a clockworkmod recovery on my phone. CPW with Vodafone contract sim.

I'm in the UK, I got the update.

Voda vs P4U on branding.

In the process of negotiating an upgrade deal. Currently on Voda.
Just wanted to know the difference between getting the phone from Vodafone or P4U.
Does the branding make much difference ??
branded phones seem to get updates later as they have to get branding added and in some cases don't get some update at all due to vodafone/networks not signing the ok on versions
Huge difference as stated above, update always comes late on branded phones, or never come.
But unbranded phone gets updates directly from HTC not vodafone so you are guaranteed to have them as soon as they are released.
Also, you have no bloatware on unbranded phones, and normally unbranded phones are unlocked on any network meaning when you sell the phone, it worthes more. But there are exceptions, my galaxy s3 lte is unbranded but locked to orange.
Anyway, if p4u's price is acceptable, better go with them. I sacrificed my 40% off discount with Orange and went upgrade with p4u even paying a bit more, but I never regretted.
Anyone actually got a branded phone?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I can't comment on voda but I've just recieved a branded device from EE and Tbh there is no bloat or pre installed crapps in fact it looks completely the way HTC intended. I'm guessing different networks will have different amounts of input but more are straying away from loading the handsets with crap for update purposes. If your rooted it don't matter anyway.

I read reports on the Vodafone forum of their customers receiving phones that have Vodafone on the bootscreen, definitely branded and I would definitely avoid that if you can P4U will be unbranded and will of course price match anyway.

Can confirm the Vodafone version has a Vodafone boot and shutdown screen. They haven't put any bloatware on it but it's definitely branded
Is there any branding on the phone itself or just software?
I have the "One" branded to Three. As far as i can see there are branded start and shutdown and two branded apps "Three Music" and "Three Games". They seem to have also installed the Amazon and Ebay apps.. I think given a chance i'll be installed the HTC standard build as soon as one is available... neither of the above apps are worth anything to me..

Sorry to clarify, the hardware is identical and has no Vodafone markings.
The phones software is Vodafone branded and comes with both their CID and usual bloat.
Just to throw this out there.
When I had a unbranded S3 Vodafone users got their official OTA updates before me.
Pretty sure you could use Kies to get it the same time if you really wanted.
With Samsung you would never be left hanging for a JB compatible HBOOT if you wanted it.

It's got no Vodafone branding on the actual handset, and no pre-installed apps, only the Voda logo when staring up and shutting down

[Q] Any news on HTC One 1.29 update for Three Branded Version?

Any news yet for the latest update for Three branded phones?
There wont be yet - but when I had a Three branded One X I remember them being one of the quicker networks getting the updates out but it could still be a couple of months after the unbranded update hits the UK
O2 and Vodafone UK appear to be pushing the updates already. I'm waiting for Orange/T-Mobile UK.
How can there be such a big discrepancy between Three and Vodafone etc. Vodafone ireland released the update today but nothing on Three at all - are they just slow getting these things out?
Wonder if they'll be any quicker than they were releasing the jelly bean update for the HTC One X? Took 3-4 months in total after most other networks. That's why I vowed never to purchase a handset from Three UK again.

I too have 3 branded nothing yet think it will be quicker to wait for soff then change cid move to non 3 Rom and continue that way I too had a one x 3 took forever but I managed to swap for a non branded handset so was all good

Three Ireland told me mid May for update? who knows though they didnt mention a year haha
Totally worth waiting for S-OFF and move over to stock HTC ROM - I cannot see that Three do anything worth while to their version anyway...
i unlocked the bootloader last night! how does S-ON affect the phone? Does it just mean no OTA updates?
Three UK informed me it was in testing. A few more weeks isnt going to hurt anyone. Rather have a bug free update.

The base for the 3 UK update will be the stock HTC update. Any bugs in this update will not be altered by 3.
The only bugs that 3 will need to sort out are the ones that they introduce with there bloatware.
any further news yet??
I missed a call from 3 re the software update. Will ring them back soon.
Ok, it's not far away. 2 weeks max. Apparently 3 sold a lot of HTC One's
As spikeydoo2006 said, 3 UK were one of the slowest carrier to update ota on one X
I would be very surprised if they're any different with One.
If you want the latest update now on 3 branded One then flash a custom Rom.
ARHD is very close to stock in appearance, I have been using on my One for several weeks

Nothing at all, keep checking every day...
This thread has gone very quiet. Why?
Any news from 3 ?
Wrong thread.. Ignore
Have been away on holiday for the past week or so, was hoping that there would be a nice update ready for me on my return. Guess not. Still nothing. Poor show Three! :crying:

Software Question

Sorry if this isn't the right pace to ask this but I posted on another forum and didn't get an answer. I have a t-mobile HTC One that I recently switched over to straight talk. I'm now using an At&t sim. I have a few questions about this. First, who will I received future updates through, t -mobile or At&t? Also, it looks like I'm still running the same T-Mobile software with their apps and settings even though my service is through At&t. Is that how it's supposed to be?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
You are still carrier branded. You will receive updates through t-mobile. If you want to get rid of these apps simply root your device.

So you think TMO is going to push the updates over the ATT network? How does that work? Or are the updates pushed directly from HTC?
HTC only pushes updates to unbranded devices. The providers push the updates to their devices. Since you bought your phone from t-mobile, you will get updates from them. That is why you have these t-mobile apps. Your new provider won't affect your OS or your firmware. You have just access to their network through your At&t SIM.

Yeah I'll post what happens once I get 4.4. I can't believe I wasn't able to find an answer about this anywhere online. It just doesn't sound right that T-mobile would be able to send me an update if I'm not on their network, but I don't know much about this kind of stuff so I'm probably wrong.

I almost posted that I doubt it would work, but then it occurred to me that the About/Update menu may actually go to a URL to check for updates, in which case it would work. However, I don't think that TMO will be able to push the update to your phone, because I think that would require them having your IMEI active on their servers.
Looking forward to your post (not least because it means I'll then have KitKat)!
