Does someone know, where our device saves data of it's tv app, especially the data of the trained infrared tv remotes?
I want to wipe my device and backup this stuff.

So, I've seen a few threads asking what to do with an old G1. I, on the other hand, know what I want to do with it, but don't know if it's possible, or how I might go about it.
My G1, currently, sits on charge in my truck, and performs Nav and Media functions, utilizing my new Vibrant's internet connection when it needs.
But, here's what I'd LIKE it to be able to do... I'd like it to be hard-wired or hidden in my vehicle, for the following purposes:
1. GPS Tracking (of course)
2. Act as car alarm, at least permitting remote start and keyless entry, possibly intrusion alert, controlled by our other smartphones / PC's, via bluetooth, WiFi, or both
3. Take video feeds from multiple cameras on vehicle (including internal), and make them available for remote viewing
4. IF I can convince T-Mobile to sell me a Data-ONLY SIM Card, tether with it
5. And, lastly, act as a smart-power controller, powering up my main CarPC, when the engine is running
This thing's quite capable, if I had to guess... I'd just like to see if anybody else is thinking along lines such as these, or has any ideas on how it might be accomplished?
1. GPS Tracking (of course) < Use lattitude
2. Act as car alarm, at least permitting remote start and keyless entry, possibly intrusion alert, controlled by our other smartphones / PC's, via bluetooth, WiFi, or both < Not going to happen
3. Take video feeds from multiple cameras on vehicle (including internal), and make them available for remote viewing < Also not going to happen
4. IF I can convince T-Mobile to sell me a Data-ONLY SIM Card, tether with it < you get a data plan for payg SIM?
5. And, lastly, act as a smart-power controller, powering up my main CarPC, when the engine is running < Sounds feasible, but you'd probably have to program that yourself.
Got the One last week from ATT, all good. Setup the TV remote app over the weekend, no problem. Now, when I open the TV app, and touch either the remote control button or off button, the app crashes, repeatedly. I have cleared the cache, and settings and now try to start over again, and the TV app closes as soon as I touch either of these buttons.
Did not add anything, or change setup in any way, just seems to have stopped working. Cannot find much of any real information on troubleshooting.
Any one with any ideas?
Looking for someone who can strip a working tv app and post it here. Will try to load that one, since a hard reset does not work to fix the crashing tv app. If that does not work, back to att it goes, that would mean a hardware fault with the IR port causing the app to crash.
Tried the other remote apps in play store, but they are all dependant on a 3rd piece of hardware, like the Harmony app uses Harmony link device which is tied to your home wifi network and you access the tv remote through the wifi network to the Link, which switches your TV gear. all others are about the same, either wifi or bluetooth. Nothing that will actually access the phone IR port, so I cannot directly test the IR port to see if it is working. Nothing in control panel for IR port to turn it on or off, that I can find.
Drop a note if you can strip the TV app and the IR Blaster App (2 unique apps) to try this last ditch effort to get it working.
Thanks,
So I just set up my chromecast to connect to my Nexus 6p over a wifi-hotspot... this way I can cast the phone screen without having an actual wifi connection.
That said, I'm wondering if I'm still using my cell data if I'm streaming local media? I'm not exactly sure how this setup works so thought I'd ask.
So, for example, if I have a movie on my phone, have the chromecast connected to the phone via a wifi-hotspot, and then cast that movie to a TV (or whatever hdmi display) - am I chewing through my cellular data just as though I was streaming the movie from some other source (e.g. nextflix)?? Or is it just a direct beam (or whatever) and I'm not actually using my cell data?
Hope that question makes sense. Thanks for the info!
Excellent question! I too am looking for an answer.
The data used depends on where the data is coming from....
If the data doesn't come FROM Verizon then it should not count towards your quota.
But any casting requires some data use from the carrier if just to load the player required for the cast.
I have a screen in my truck that has HDMI input...i used to use mhl adapter to watch kodi tv on long trips. After upgrading phones. Mhl no longer works. So I bought a Chromecast for my truck. Is there a way I can use my chromecast....im guessing V3 without wifi so I can stream kodi(localcast) from my phone on trips?
I'd like to know too. I'm the exact same situation. Not sure if I need a custom Rom or what.
Chromecast requires internet....No matter what you want to do!
Is there a different device I could use to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Just a simple cast device?

Well I think you are on the right track with Kodi...It can be installed on a FireTV stick (or box) with a remote that doesn't require a wireless router to control the unit.
The FireTV Box is better than the stick as it has a USB port to allow you to plug in a Hard Drive that holds your media. I believe Localcast works on the FireTV system.
Or you could get an Android box, load localcast onto that unit and your phone should be able to send streams to it also.
Chromecast is just too dependent on Internet and WiFi to be a useful device in Mobile Situations without Mobile Data Router installed in the Vehicle. That is why I added a Verizon WiFi Puck to my account which fits in a Pocket and gives me WiFi Internet no matter where I am as long as there is a Cell Tower around. Now that they have Unlimited Service again it really is worth investing in.

Will local cast work without wifi? If so I'm about to order a firestick.

I never use Localcast as I refuse to store any content on my phone...
I suspect it needs some WiFi to connect to the device. But maybe not Internet.
Well, there is a bug (assigned and scheduled for a fix) in Google Play Services that breaks being able to cast and use hotspot on the same device. You can use an old version of Play Services if you are rooted. Otherwise you need two devices.
Having said that, I have unlimited data, but I have found that you can use your hotspot so the Chromecast works, but then use Plex to stream locally synced content. This way you don't use your cell data plan.
I actually use a Chomecast Audio in my car since it's way better sounding than Bluetooth for music. So I am all for unconventional means
If you have no intention of storing movies on your phone, you could Plex sync the content to an Android tablet then stream from there. Or you can run a mini Plex server on a PI and cast it to your Chromecast in your car without using data. The only time the internet would be used is when the Chromecast wants to update it's firmware.

As for Localcast, you can store the data on anything that is DLNA compliant machine/box in your car or SMB share (like a PI box), then just fling it to your Chromecast.
My touchscreen and display are both broken and as many others i didn't backup my data on my internal memory, like whatsapp.
When i connect my Z3C to my computer it still sees the Xperia Z3 Compact phone but it doesn't show any files. I expect that this is because it's on 'charging modus', and not on MTP etc.
How can i extract my data
If the phone still gets on WiFi, install a remote control app from play store website. But it has to be one that works without setup on the phone, obviously. I don't use such an app myself so can't recommend anything particular.
