Data recovery - black screen - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My touchscreen and display are both broken and as many others i didn't backup my data on my internal memory, like whatsapp.
When i connect my Z3C to my computer it still sees the Xperia Z3 Compact phone but it doesn't show any files. I expect that this is because it's on 'charging modus', and not on MTP etc.
How can i extract my data

If the phone still gets on WiFi, install a remote control app from play store website. But it has to be one that works without setup on the phone, obviously. I don't use such an app myself so can't recommend anything particular.

Is this possible?

Hi Guys,
Not sure if this should go here or the programming thread, but here it goes....
I've got a TyTN II, and am currently in the process of installing a PC in my car. I'm writing a front end application which will server as an interface for music, videos, internet etc; all voice actived . I would like however, to connect my TyTN II to the PC for internet access (that one's easy, as I can just enable internet sharing), but what I'd also like to be able to do is connect the phone (either via bluetooth or USB), and send/receive SMS txts from/to an app running on a PC. I would also like to be able (once connected), to make/receive calls on the PC, using the headphone and microphone of the PC ..... Is this possible or am I dreaming?? Is there any APIs to allow me to communicate with the phone in this way, or any tricks to setting up the phone as a voice modem??
Cheers everyone

if you are looking for something that is already made for your use case as opposed to developing yourself, i highly highly highly recommend "WIFI Remote Access v1.7r1"...it is freeware to the best of my knowledge.
don't be fooled by the "WIFI" in the name. it works just as well via an activesync connection as well. the following use cases will be possible from the browser in your pc after establishing a connection:
1. reading/writing smses
2. viewing pictures stored on the phone
3. general accessing and management of files and folders on the phone and its storage card
4. the phone's registry access and management (!!!)
5. playback of music stored on the phone and its storage card (within the browser!!!)
6. the phone's screen can also appear in the browser and you can "remote desktop" the phone, essentially able to control the phone from the browser as if you actually had the device in your hand.
all that and a bit more, and it works best with internet explorer 7 and 8. the interface in the browser is beautiful and the setup is idiot proof
that sounds amazing!!! .... I had a look at the others from the previous post, but having issues with them ..... Will have a look now

[Q] Can I still tranfer my contacts, pic, & music, out of this phone?

I have the Xperia X1 and i need to replace the Flex Cable ribbon. The phone still powers on but of course there is nothing on the screen. I do have a passcode on my phone too.
Is there still away I can transfer pictures, music, contacts, etc. out of my phone??? If so please explain...
If I remember correctly, you need Soti Pocket Controller. It allows you to see info and control everything on your phone on your desktop, including entering the passwords and PIN. It's a free download and is perfect for those situations when the screen on your device is not available for whatever reason.
What about MyMobiler? Also freeware and shows the screen of the device on your desktop.

Wireless Media Transfer: Cannot Pair With Windows 7 PC

I have a new Z3C and want to use the Wireless Media Transfer option but I cannot get the device to pair with a Windows 7 x64 PC (I've tried two PCs now). I have the device in MTP mode, but when I right-click on "Xperia Z3 Compact" and choose the "Network Configuration" option the wizard hangs while trying to transfer the settings. I even installed PC Companion, and made sure everything is up-to-date but I just cannot get it to work.
I want to use this feature so I can access my micro SD card without messing with the flaps: transferring music and tag editing using mp3tag are essential to me and I don't want to wear out those delicate little flaps!
Well I tried pairing wireless with Win. 7 and failed too, don't know exactly what's the problem. My suggestion would be to use ES explorer though. You can add your PC to the LAN tab by entering the internal IP and just copy to the internal memory (no SD card access thanks to Google). From there the preinstalled File Commander can move your music to SD.

Had the same issue on Win7, hang while transferring settings. On the 3rd attempt it did pair successfully. I noticed that windows was installing a device driver on the first pairing attempt, maybe that just needed to complete first.
The Transfer Settings stage does take a while, so it may just look like it's hanging. How long did you try it? Also you may need to allow portable devices access in your firewall (as the popup advises).
I left it a good 10 minutes. No drivers were being installed and no firewall popups appeared (I don't use the Windows software firewall).
Same here (64bit) win 8.1 I let it run until the 'can't complete' dialogue shows
Having the same issue here - anyone else fixed it until now ?
It happens to me at first... But if you will make screen time out more like 10 + min, while pairing configuration it does connect. Its because of screen goes off then it wont connect.

What helped me was making sure the screen didn't turn off, might be an idea too to temp disable Stamina while it goes through its process, it does take a while.

I had the same problem, solved it this way (hope I remember correctly)
on phone:
- set screen sleep to 30 minutes (Settings - Display - Sleep)
- turn off stamina mode (Settings - Power Management)
-plug into PC with USB
on PC:
- "Computer", right click "Xperia Z3 Compact" and select "Network Configuration"
- Click through with "Next/OK" until you get the screen that says something about "transfering settings" (or something like that) where it seemed to hang on previous attempts.
...and now the most important part - WALK AWAY!! Make a sandwich or something, come back in 30 mins and all should be OK - it's not actually hanging, just looks unresponsive while it does it's thing - be patient.
Good luck!
I did pair with PC using USB. The problem I have is that it hangs for 1 or 2 minutes while trying to connect to PC with WI-FI. Then it fails. I try for like 15 times, then for no reason it works. It only happens when I'm using my home wi-fi. I tried to connect with a friend's wifi, and it worked in a few seconds.

Need help

I own an Xperia Z. Apparetly the water proofing feature failed and after trying hard to salvage my phone I can connect it to pc and able to access the file inside. PC companion detects it too. The problem is screen is busted and i would like to try to access it through mirror apps BUT I realised that initialising is required. Any solution you guys have in mind?
If screen is still show something, use USB-OTG cable, its cheap(0.5-3 Euro) and connect to it normal mouse to move on screen
If screen is totally dead, connect MHL cable(5pin not 12pin that is for samsung), its cost from 4 euro to 10 Euro, connect it to tv via HDMI slot and it stream your phone screen to TV(also its better than wifi streaming because no lags and it charge phone, good for playing GTA ;] and you can use it with other phones )
Both cables you can buy in any shop that sell phones, tech stuff or just get in on ebay.
PS. Also you can backup ALL data from sd card and build in memory, especially "android" folder. Install the same apps on other phone, then open them, close apps, and replace those folders with your backups, you gonna get the same data like you had in xz.

alright then i think thats the best method after all thanks a bunch!!!! I have been looking up and found out that there is a way to put my phone on debugging mode without the need to touching the phone through command prompt. Any ideas about it?
Nope, I dont like messing with anything that require commands, debugging or terminal. Its funny because for most of my life I use linux xD
But Im a person who think that if we have GUI... we use GUI. because using terminal for simple tasks is like using dog instead of computer mouse... its just retarded... But it just my opinion ;]
So I think that if you have access to your files, just copy them to other phone with the same installed apps, and try to recover your data. Or try those cables... Maybe someone else would have better idea or know how to use this debugging for that... :/

Broken Digitizer

Hello xda community,
recently my Z3C fell and the screen got smashed so bad that the digitizer was rendered useless. I can't unlock my phone anymore and its not rooted. Luckily I had insurance and will get a replacement on tuesday, however I need to somehow control my phone through my pc to get some apps configured, make a backup and also wipe my phone. Does anyone know of a solution for controlling my Z3C without the touchscreen? I have USB Debugging enabled, but without root, I don't know what I can use in the place of Android Screencasting. Even being able to manage my toggles such as wifi and bluetooth would help out. Thanks!
Install app (with adb push from pc) like AirDroid to control phone screen via PC web browser.. good luck
