I swear there is a thread somewhere for this, but I can't find it. So flame away.
Speaking of flames if I'm ever freezing, and the area I'm in has horrible signal I'll just use my phone as a heater.
The heat from this phone is seriously drying my hand out from charging it and tasking it with games. Plus always having terrible signal. Thanks sprint. I feel like it shouldn't be this warm though? Please inform me if I'm wrong.
Oh temperature is at 101°F just sitting charging.

Its fine and yes, there are several of these threads. The phone is made of metal as opposed to plastic. Youre using one big heatsink.

Don't quote electronics temperatures in F.
101 F is 2-3 degrees above body temperature. That seems reasonable.
I wouldn't expect someone to consider it hot until 50-60C. Or about 125F or above.
You're dealing with metal, metal conducts heat far better than other materials you can make phones out of. Metal will transfer the heat to your hand. I would have thought this would have been obvious when you bought a metal phone, but some people seem surprised.
I am running at -25 mV and I haven't had any battery alerts since.
D3rped out Beastmode! HTC ONE!
The only time I ever had an issue with heat had to do with the rom/kernel I was running. I really thought something was wrong with the phone until I changed roms.

A ROM change actually made a world of difference.

4G (especially marginal) chews battery switching between 4G and 3G.
You can't use the Signal Strength to know what the 4G strength is.
I have since shut 4G off and my Battery is much better. You can shut it off by using non LTE PRL or set to CDMA only.
The non LTE PRL (12126) makes this the best 3G phone ever, for me.
Sprint has been "Rolling Out" 4G for 6 months in eastern MA and just seems to be getting worse.
I'm running Viper with what ever Kernel he supplied with it. My phone never gets hot. Maybe slight warm if running NAV while Charging.
I never play games.

I've noticed that occasionally, my phone feels pretty hot in my hand. Used the spare parts app and got aa temp reading of 41°c. So I'm just curious if this is a high level of or not for a not charging phone (the lowest temp I have seen is 29°). Just post ur temps here or provide any useful info you may have so I can get a feeling for if this KS normal.
Thanks!

I experienced the same, but be noted that, continuous use will heat up your fone, especially when dealing with SD card reading/ writing. btw you can always check with the shop for sure.
It gets hot when I use navigation for a while. It got up to 50C today. Damn that's hot!
Anything that uses continuous data transfer over 3g/h like maps wud heat up the phone. Same applies for calls too on 3g/h.
I always keep mine on 2g unless I need some serious data download. This way my phone keeps its cool

Is there any death grip issue with this phone? Have you ever experienced of it?
Hmm, so far nope. How did you hold your phone?

I have my OB for almost two weeks and i haven't had any problems regarding reception.

Never have such death grip problem with my OB
Nohow. I am still considering this phone to be my next gadget nut here at xda read that somebody experienced death grip holding it in his left hand I guess and lose courage because of it.

Yea that's me. If I hold the phone with my left palm covering the handset it loses some signal. Not a huge problem.
The worst things about the device at the mo are the awful battery life (which should be fixed with a custom Rom) and the cheap build quality. I've just sold mine because of these issues.
Nice screen though
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Yeah the battery issue is definatelt software related. I'm getting much better battery after uninstalling alot of the LG crapware that came with the phone.
A custom ROM would be perfect for this phone because the hardware is really good.
I am also noticing serious signal drop when my left palm covers the left side. However dont have issues in making or receiving calls. Not sure if it will affect 3G usage though.

No drop signal when I hold the phone with my left palm. But Heat & small speaker volume sometimes annoying.

Oh, mine drops rapidly from 4 bars to 1 within 5 seconds. Doesnt happen on 2G network. Also seriously affects 3G download speed. Flat on my table, i can get 3mbps but with my left palm, only 1mbps. Sigh, a little put off with OB now.
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA App
that's true. even i have the same problem. also this has been clearly mentioned in the user manual.
Oh, it is mentioned in the user manual? Btw, where can i get the user manual in PDF format?
The user manual come with your box inside, is same with the pdf manual download from LG site also, I'm user from Malaysia too!
Yay, fellow OB user from MY! My set actually from Taiwan. I connect it to the LG Suite but there are no options to download the PDF. The user manual that came with phone is all in Chinese and i dont understand a single letter, haha. Is there a direct link to download the PDF?
Is anyone else having this problem? It just gets hotter and hotter to the point where I have to use Loudspeaker or end the call.
Should I ask for a replacement?

Pretty sure all sprint versions of the One do this.. I have yet to see one that didn't in areas around - 93dbm, always drops to -100+dbm when the grip is applied in lower left corner.. Although I don't call it a death grip because it actually does not kill the connection like the iPhone 4 did. And when you're in a call it switches to the top antenna so no big deal.

It happens in my area as well and I'm not sure my device is switching to the top antenna because I will drop calls as soon as the signal strength drops.
I never hold my phone in a way that contacts the lower left when in a call. But just to test it I make a call and if I have 3 bars and grip lower left I can see it drop to 1 bar then immediately to 5 bars. I assume it's switching antennas because that's what I read it was suppose to do.

Like the iphones of old, will a skin or case prevent the death grip?

I see it on my 2 week old Black ONE. Thought it was the work-in-progress issue with using cm 10.1, and decided to bare with it by assuming that the Cm 10.1 folks will find a solution. After reading this post and watching the videos, I was stunned to see that this was the actual reason for the low signal and slow data speed... and possibly a few dropped calls? I finally noticed that when the phone is on but laying on table top... it can show 4g signal rather well. But, as soon as I grab it to use in my hand... the 4g data symbol disappears.... signal meter drops to almost nothing... then comes to 1-2 bars at most showing 3g data. I still thought 4g was not rolled out in my area.... But, my wife, who has N2, said she has been noticing it for few months already.
Overall, besides the camera, I was pretty happy with this phone, but I am realizing it has worse signal than my old epic 4g. I am hoping this is a fixable issue for HTC and Sprint... I am contemplating returning to exchange for S4 this weekend, before my return period runs out. demmit.
this has already been discussed somewhere else, may have been the international forum. but like i said in that post, it is nothing extreme. and it is CERTAINLY not a death grip. death grip COMPLETELY kills your active connection, or drops you to 1x. in this video, the signal was already ****ty... dont worry about it, every phone always hovers in the -70 through -98 range... stop worrying about it... just stop. a 10db loss is nothing people...
end of thread please
hmmmm i can't reproduce this in my case....
I am posting this as friend and I were discussing this. So I was listening to music and had a visualizer going, and happened to fall asleep while doing so. I woke to the temp as seen in my screenshot...that is pretty insane, 201'F on a phone.
I've let the phone cool down, rebooted, and so far everything is okay as far as I can tell. But this is a reference towards being careful with what you do, and a lesson well learned.
Now as to if that xposed mod is accurate, I do not know; but I can tell you the heat from the phone is what woke me up.

That is really hot. Maybe the heat was from GPU processing the visualizer and combine with CPU.
I bet it was plugged in. when plugged in and using CPU, it can get really hot. bit 200F is actually "normal", as it will hit thermal shutdown at 100C, which is 212F. and I have hit that temp on many occasions, purposefully and accidentally
You would be correct. It was plugged up to my little two amp brick for charging. Nothing smells funny and the phone still works just fine, so everything appears okay.
Just surprised that it got that high without shutdown, but that is close to 212.

i wouldnt worry about it, since technically thats within its "safe zone" of temps. as i said, ive probably got it over 200F at least 200 times, and my phone still performs wonderfully. just keep an eye of it if using the cpu and it being plugged in
Will do from now on.
