i installed AVATAR 4.2.2 on my optimus 2x. Now after installing that ROM, a lot of applications crash. the battery backup has decreased drastically and sometimes when phone goes to sleep, the power button doesent work in getting the phone off sleep. i have to take off the battery and then start the phone..
I tried installing a ROM based on 4.0 but its not installing now. everytime i install it, i again get the AVATAR ROM
always do a full wipe before flashing a new rom....this is how i do
1. Save all my work from the phone to the computer and al the files that I will need in the future
2. In recovery I go to Mounts and I wipe cache, data, sd card, system, dalvik cache
3. FLash the rom and then in the advanced menu select Fix Permisions
4. Copy back the saved files and data from the computer to the phone
I never had problems when I flashed new roms

This concerns my galaxy note n7000. I had a rooted checkrom v4 working on my note. I tried to install criskelorom v2 and got bootloops. I then tried to go back to stock via odin and flashed stock N7000 KL3 ROM which i had earlier used, I had to go to stock because after bootloop even recovery was not working. now after flashing stock i am getting a strange problem of the phone getting stuck at the welcome to gt-n7000 screen . "touch the android to begin" . nothing is happening after touching the android on the screen although i can change the language etc and even the pull down notification is also working but the phone is stuck at the initial stage. I have a nandroid backup of my initial checkrom in my internal sd card but cannot restore it before installing a rom with root and cwm. Kindly help . Thanks.
I'm having the exact problem. I'm hoping we can create a soft brick sticky thread. I walked away from my phone last night because I was getting frustrated.
My attempts to flash stock ROM via Odin resulted in the "not responding" message in windows. I can get to both CWM and download mode, however any ROM flashed via CWM results in the behavior described by the OP. fortunately I have access to another Samsung phone, so I can double check driver installation (although it worked for flashing previously).
I'm continuing a search through the forums to find some alternate methods for unbricking. Hope someone has an idea.
Thanks!
It seems that the stock roms i was trying to flash were nonwipe ones so i flashed xxla3 which is a wipe rom and was able to boot . I then flashed the earlier kl3 rom over this rom because kl3 is rootable. I then rooted and installed cwm booted into recovery and restored my earlier nandroid backup. I think the situation arises because the nonwipe rom was unable to clear the cache , user data etc
Thank you for the information. I had exactly the same problem. What did you use to root KL3 ?
Just wipe both cash and user data, and reboot.
reboot to recovery mode -> mount and storage -> format system, format cache, format data.
and do a factory reset and wipe cache.
problem should be solved cause that's what i did

I have an lg optimus 2x and when i want to update the rom i just go into CWM flash the new rom, flash custom kernel and reboot and am good to go.
It does not seem like it for the touchpad? are there any roms that are similar to this, im asking because I dont want to reinstall all my apps everytime I upgrade a rom. especially since ICS updates are moving so quickly.
thanks

I use the unofficial nightlies. All I do is wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and install.
You could also use titanium backup to restore your apps if you've done a wipe delete factory reset. Also, in cwm, you could try advanced restore > restore data.

For every Android device...if you are updating the different version of same rom, you dont need to wipe (unless Dev specify it). If you are flashing different rom, then you should wipe cache, dalvik cache atleast....better if you can factory reset to avoid random FC issue....
Its similar in touchpad...once you have android (CWM and mobbot) installed, you just wipe cache and dalvik cache for different version of same rom...and along with that factory reset if you are flashing new rom....
Titanium backup and my backup pro are very good apps to restore your apps in minutes.....
Thanks for the clarification guys

Go to the storage tab in settings, click the menu button , 3 dots in top right hand corner click USB computer connection then tick the option for MTB, and your done .
Don't know who first discovered this method of restoring apps/user data, but you could go into CWM...backups and restore...advanced restore...select rom containing user data you wish to restore....select restore data....reboot.
A whole lot simpler (in my opinion) than using titanium backup for multiple app restore.
Hi,
I've been using galaxy tab 8.9 with custom ROMs for more than a year and a half now, and sometimes it was acting strange, like flickering dialogs and crashes. Usually this meant an unstable ROM or just cache wasn't cleared when a new ROM was installed. And it was stable for some time, till I did a reset. Now no ROM is stable any more in addition to this, the battery sometimes says it is empty, but after restart it is back to normal status. I tried number of ROMs without luck, all are flickering lately which must mean it is not ROMs fault.
I am running out of ideas what to do with this tablet, so I'm asking if you guys have any suggestions, what else can I do to fix it.
NOTE: when installing a new ROM, I always did it with CWM recovery from internal storage with data, cache, dalvik wipe and factory reset.
regards, Daniel

Agree. In TWRP, a factory reset only wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. You have to manually format system. A clean install requires to wipe system, data, cache and dalvik-cache.

Of course. Flashing original firmware via odin brings back the original setup that came with the tab out of the box. I just don't remember if it will delete the contents of internal sd card. In any case, you can flash original firmware thru CWM as I always do, though I only flash boot and system images I modified in Kitchen. It will still be stock but only that it has been debloated, rooted, busybox installed, init.d enabled, and some system apps replaced.
Just remember that when flashing ROMs via CWM do a factory reset (wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache). In addition to the wipe, the rom.zip itself formats the system partition prior to flashing.
Hello Everybody, My phone is Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 and I have an issue.I am the one who is changing rom constantly.I was using the rom named ''Xperiance-Ace-v4_Sky_Walker_Studios'' for a long time.Lately i loaded another rom, 2 hours after i used, The phone was closed by itself, I tried open phone again but it stayed at boot animation screen. After that, I thought that rom is spoilt, I tried other roms but they stayed at boot animation screen as well.I tried all of roms that i have but result was same.I thought that i should try the rom which i was using before all those problems started. So i flashed Xperiance-Ace-v4_Sky_Walker_Studios Rom.Bizarre but it worked. When it opened i have faced with some pop-up ''android upgrading 0/70'' when it finished (70/70) i was at homescreen and all of my apps that i downloaded when i was using this rom at old days was there. It was so weird, And all aplications started to stop itselves and i even havent touched any of them. Like ''Unfortunately Whatsapp has stopped'' ''Unfortunately contacts has stopped'' ''Unfortunately facebook has stopped'' finally they all stoped working and i tried open applications, No application opened even contacts.
Present state: Only one rom is working, Others staying at boot animation screen and the rom which is working actually not working, Only phone is opening, No application working
What is the Problem? What Should i do? I am waiting your answers, THANKS.

I suggest you install the stock rom using odin. It seems you have some corrupted files. Before flashing the stock rom, do Format Data/ Factory Reset, Format Cache Partitions, Mount & Storage> Format /system, Wipe Dalvik Cache and Wipe Battery Stats. Once you have flashed the stock rom, go to recovery mod and do Wipe Data/ Factory Reset and Wipe Cache Partition (otherwise bootloop might occur). After that install root and CWM from the recovery mod. Now you can install any other custom rom without any problem. Do post your results. Hope I Helped

Try installing CWM 5 from the recovery mod. CWM 5 is much more stable than CWM 4. Once you have installed CWM 5, do Format Data/ Factory Reset, Format Cache Partitions, Mount & Storage> Format /system, Wipe Dalvik Cache and Wipe Battery Stats. Thanks. this thread helped a lot.
It seems like this issue has been fixed in latest 08/03 version of CM12.1.
I will try installing this version today.
Thanks.
Does anyone know how I can fully wipe my current CM 12.1 and install new-latest CM12.1 safely?
Is this safe way to do this ?
- insert sd card and reboot in recovery mode
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install zip files(recovery/cm12.1/gapps)
- wipe dalvik cache
- reboot
Is this safe way to install cm12.1 - 0803 from my current cm12.1 - 0723??
Thank you
I would reboot after flashing recovery.
Reboot after flashing ROM. Set up the basics. Make a back-up. Flash GAPPS, log into your Google account and set up the basics. Make another back-up , wipe cache/ dalvik,, reboot, and then finish setting up your device.
I think you might want to wipe system to and look into converting Cache and Data to F2FS.
Also, I typically wipe everything 3 times when switching ROMs.

Dear sir,
Thank you for your information at my thread.
I am currently running cm 12.1 0803 version with the same auto-restarting problem.
(the shut down functions works sometimes when i shut my nook in landscape mode)
However, I also found out that my Bluetooth mouse is not compatible with CM 12.1 and
I am planning to install cm11 version(because i heard that my mouse works in cm11 version fine).
And i would like to ask you these(I hope you will be kind enough to answer them) :
1. is there a way to make my bluetooth mouse work in CM 12.1 version?
2. which version(date) of cm11 will you recommend me?
3. you mentioned about changing cache and data to fsf2, can you tell me how i can do this? what would be the advantage?
4. you mentioned about wiping everything 3 times, do you wipe 3 times with only booting once? or do you reboot everytime you wipe?
5. Please tell me if this procedure is correct, if i will change my cm 12 to cm 11
- insert sd card and reboot in recovery mode
- wipe data / factory reset
- wipe cache partition
- install recovery and reboot
- install cm rom and reboot
- install gapps and reboot
- format/system(3times?)
- format/data(3times?)
- format/cache(3times?)
- format/bootdata (3times?)
- format/data and sd card (3times?)
- wipe dalvik/cache
- reboot
Thank you.

1) Shut down and boot into recovery isn't working for me on 8/03 either, but I haven't had time to mess with it to find out why not. Maybe wiping system and then flashing 8/03 might work. I wouldn't wipe Data if you're coming from the last July version of 12.1
But, if you hold down the power button long enough, the tablet will shut down. I just can't shut down from the menu.
Once you're completely off, you can boot into recovery with the power/n combo.
I also tried the Reboot shortcut and widget from ROMToolbox Pro and that didn't work either.
1) I don't know much about how to make bluetooth work. I know that some stuff works on these builds and some stuff doesn't
2) I'm using Amaces's Unofficial CM 12.1. I never found a CM 11 that worked well on my Nook HD+
3) Theoretically,F2FS uses flash memory more efficiently. I think we're talking nano or micro seconds here, but many say it helps. To answer your question about Why and How, I'd have to look it up to give you clear instructions. You can do the same, and you'll learn more by researching it yourself, than by me explaining it poorly.
3) I wipe three times, then reboot
------NOTE---
I'm barely above a novice and my advice isn't worth diddly squat
Below is what generally has worked for ME and what I've read that other folks do. It does not mean this is the best way to do it.
The MOST important thing is to read a lot, then read some more, take your time and make back-ups often.
You need to look in the CM11 threads to see what Recoveries are compatible with CM11. Not all of the current Recoveries are backwards compatible.
AND you're better of asking about flashing to CM11 in a CM11 thread, rather than a CM12 thread.
I don't use an SD, I do everything off of the onboard memory.
I use TWRP as my recovery.
1) If I'm going to a new ROM, rather than do Factory Data Reset, I manually go in and choose to wipe System, Dalvik, Data and Cache. I've never touched BootData as far as I remember. I do that 3 times.
2) Flash new recovery if you want.
3) Reboot into recovery too make sure the new recovery flashed okay.
4) I then flash the ROM, wipe Dalvik and Cache 1 time, boot into the ROM to make sure it was a good flash and set up the bare minimum.
5) Boot to recovery
6) Flash GAPPS and wipe Dalvik and Cache 1 time (usually)
7) Reboot and make sure there were no problems with GAPPS
8) Set up my minimum accounts and apps.
9) Boot to recovery and make a back up.
10) Reboot and install the rest of my apps.
11) Make sure everything works okay and once I'm satisfied, make another back up.
If I'm going from one version of the same ROM to the next update, I just flash the latest version, wipe Dalvik and Cache 1 or 2 times and reboot.
Thereafter, I make back-ups ever week or so, depending on how much I've been using my tablet and how much time I have.
